Single dad Richard Blake is at his wits' end trying to secure help for his mischievous five-year-old twins. Known as DC's most eligible bachelor, the entrepreneurial magazine editor never imagines he'll fall for the one woman he's sure he can't have. She looks after his kids and has a boyfriend to boot. So his attraction to her is beside the point. But when Ventura becomes enmeshed in his family and Richard finds himself losing his heart, is there a way to secure a happy ending? A sweet, traditional PG-rated romantic comedy. Standard novella-length, approximately 30,000 words.

Ventura worked hard to get her degree and a masters too in journalism; she had plans to come to Washington DC and find her dream job in a newsroom.
A spilled coffee, a chance meeting, free tickets to a charity event and another chance meeting there helped change the course of Ventura's plans. Two five-year-old twin added an aspect of fun and adventure to Ventura's life, as she got to know their handsome single father.
My Lucky Groom is full of fun, adventure and mishaps too. The plot and characters just fit together jus right.
This story was more about the woman falling in love with the guy's kids. I always wonder how realistic this kind of thing is. Especially when the kids are supposedly so terrible. The nanny was a miracle worker, and the kids were match makers. Didn't like this one, but it was clean. A bit too sweet to feel real.
~My review~ By Ana Rodriguez. Once I started reading My Lucky Groom by author Ginny Baird, it was nearly impossible for me to put it down and stop reading. This book is a short story in Ginny's Summer Grooms Series.( Book #2) Back to my review. Ventura finds herself in Washington, DC. for an opportunity in finding a job in journalism because she has a master's degree in journalism. Leaving from home for the first time and feeling overwhelmed being on her own,Ventura felt a bit scared. Being new to Washington and now sitting in a café were she was serviced by a waitress named Mary. A clumsy accident in front of her taking place. Ventura hears a mans voice. “I’m sorry! Are you all right?”, he asked. Ventura nods her head completely taken off guard watching. I found this scene a bit funny as I read it, I was laughing out loud as Mary the waitress shooed the man away from Ventura. Mary was being protective of Ventura. Girls have to stick together. Every character had a unique playing role in this story, that came perfectly. The character I loved the most was Mary in this story. Mary was like Ventura’s savor taking her in and give her a place to live. I found Mary supporting role in guiding Ventura in any way needed. Richard Blake a single father and a handsome bachelor in need of a nanny for his kids. Jason the assistant to Richard Blake. Richard was very grateful to have Jason as an assistant and friend. Jason would pick up some nanny duties in addition to his demanding job. To me Ventura seemed a bit naive to the new world in Washington. Her parents broken marriage pushed her on her new journey adventure in a new city, without a job. Ventura had a job interview. As she looked at the map she had in her hand she knew she was lost. Ventura was not going to make her interview on time or at all. “Need help?” a man’s voice asked. “Richard!” “So where you headed?” “I have an interview on K Street.” I found it funny on how Richard slipped in and told her he had an job opening at home. Richard explained to Ventura he needed a nanny for his kids. Ventura turned him down on his job offer. After having no luck with any job at all Ventura swallows her pride and calls Richard for an interview. Richard hires Ventura as his new nanny for his five year old twins, Ricky and Elisa. Ventura’s adventure starts after that in her new nanny job. Soon she learns Richard’s kids are no angels. Since it’s a short story I don’t want to give it away. But just let me say that the attraction with Ventura and Richard blooms fully unto a great story. It’s not every day that I come across a story that I absolutely can’t stop reading. Having twins of my own as I read, I found myself smiling throughout the story and Ventura's adventures.I think Ginny Baird did great in writing out each character in this book. While reading this story , I enjoyed on how real the story seemed. Ventura’s fate was Richard and the love that blossomed was their fate. I finished reading this book with a smile on my face. I recommend this book for any one up for a great love story. You'll be happy you did. I was.
Ventura, collector of fortune cookies, is off on a new adventure--finding work in Washington DC. She is a mid-20s girl who feels that she was abandoned by her father when she was little and is also the type of girl who is often overlooked. Her chance meeting with an adorable waitress leaves her with a new best friend and roommate. Ventura, out of desperation, takes a job with one of the city's hottest bachelors (Richard)--but it's not quite the job she had in mind.
What I really liked about this story is that Ventura is not portrayed as the perfect girl. She's very clumsy; she's not confident enough to follow her dreams, yet she does have a pretty good attitude about making the best of a situation; and she is on the heavier side, with thick glasses and out-of-control curly hair, often not the one that men take notice of. This makes her very easy to relate to.
I liked Richard too, but felt he could have been a little more developed. He comes across as a playboy, yet we don't see him in many situations that prove this to be wrong. He was very kind and compassionate, and obviously a doting dad, but I wish there had been a little more--emotion.
There were a couple of very mild innuendos. The misunderstandings were pretty funny. A short, sweet book that left me with a smile on my face.
LOVED THIS ROMANTIC COMEDY! This is my second and a half book by Ginny Baird (the half being a short story) and I truly love her writing style. Ventura reminds a little of Bridget Jones at times, and I couldn't help but liking her from the very beginning. She's the girl anyone would want as their best friend. Unlike Bridget, though, Ventura is also smart and has goals, she's not rude and doesn't sleep around. She's waiting to meet the man of her dreams and succeed in her career as a writer, but she knows her bulky frame (due to her love for Chinese food and fortune cookies!) and her lack of fashion style doesn't help her case. What happens when she catches the eye of a hot and wealthy man at a party? You'll have to read the book and discover it by yourselves! :) All I can say is that I really enjoyed this book, from the plot to the characters, everything was captivating and entertaining. I loved the side characters, the twins, Mary, Nanette, Jason - they all played an important part in the story and in Ventura's life. A clean romance that will hook you from the start and will make you laugh.
This is a great book--I absolutely loved it. From the first scene when Ventura has a date with her dad in the Chinese restaurant, I was hooked. My late husband introduced me to Chinese food--and fortune cookies. I loved Richard and Ventura and was glad there wasn't an overload of conflict between them. Ventura's friends ("new family") were wonderful and supportive and I loved Charles also. I hope there is a romance in his future. I received this book from the author when I won a contest and finished it in one evening.
This was a very sweet story and I look forward to reading the next book in the series.
My Lucky Groom was a quick simple read. The storyline seemed like a been there done that plot. Fumbling fat girl (if you consider a size 12 fat, I don't) gets a makeover and meets the man of her dreams who just happens to be rich. A man who has two kids that were made out to be total brats but whom took to the main character Ventura Hart rather quickly and fell in love with her. Ventura just has one amazing thing after another fall into her lap. This book was too over the top for me, especially for a story that was so brief. There was no real build up or connection to the characters.
I started out really liking this book and finding myself a little addicted. But then the book let me down. Where was the love story and seriously a proposel at the end even without a date. Maybe if there was more time spent together than it could have been a little believable.
Also the kids are suppose to be a handful. She has two experiences with them than all of a sudden it skips till she knows two things they like and know everything is all good.
A book with a lot of cute potential that I found very disappointing.

Ventura is looking for her dream job in journalism. Only she is doing odd jobs to make ends meet. In comes Mary who has a place to share. With a make over from Mary, they are on their way to a party. Across the room is Richard. Their eyes met and cupid's arrow struck. Only Richard has 2 of the most precocious children ever. He can't keep a nanny for long. Ventura accepts the nanny position till her dream job comes through. Now not only is she falling for him but the children too. Her dreams have come true but not as expected. Love the ending!
An excellent story of a young woman trying to get her dream of being a journalist off the ground but not having much luck. She takes a job as a nanny and discovers that maybe the dream she's been chasing isn't exactly the one her heart wants. When she finally has a chance at the elusive job she's been after she finds that sometimes it's smarter to follow your heart.
Excellent sweet romance that will give a great afternoon of enjoyment. I definitely recommend it.
Cute, liked the fortune cookies that was different. But why do all "Rom-Coms" have to turn the girl into an uncoordinated mess. She's a smart girl graduated at the top of her class, and while he gets to come out smelling like a rose. You wonder how she has lived this long as accident prone as she is.
Really not much to this. Very simple writing, flimsy story. None of the characters rung true, no development there. The dialog did not sound authentic. Why, oh why, do authors insist on making the heroine a babbling, accident-prone idiot? It's not endearing, just embarrassing. She had a master's degree in journalism, give her some credit.
Kind of disappointed with this one. I loved the Christmas Brides series and was expecting more of the same. This came off stilted and repetitive which bothered me a lot. The title didn't even seem to fit with the story at all.
A fun, light read. A bit hilarious to read when Ventura gets hired as nanny for Richard's kids. Right from start to finish I was smiling throughout the story. Loved the cool hero Richard Blake. Loved all those funny moments between Richard and Ventura.
Loved it! As with all of Ginny's other books it pulls you in from the first sentence. Strong characters, humor, and a lot of romance...just what the doctor ordered!
'My Lucky Groom' (Summer Grooms #2) by Ginny Baird is a great story! I finished it in one sitting. Highly recommend to anyone that enjoys a good romance.
Another sweet romance story in this series. Chinese take-out, fortune cookies, four leaf clovers, finding a family where you may least expect it, and perhaps even finding your own forever too. :)
The setting (Washington, D.C.) was the best part of this story. The second best part was the main story between Richard and Ventura. Everything else was lacking. The kid subplot was virtually nonexistent. Odd since they are the reason for Ventura's even being there. And the time line of the plot was senseless unless Ventura had a time machine she didn't tell us about. Ms. Baird usually does better than this, and I was disappointed.
