When Ada wakes with a strange man in her sleeping bag, she has no idea that the dazed, dirty, and naked man is actually a Kelpie- a horse-like creature with an affinity for water. He insists that he is a fey, and that others of his kind are hunting him. Driven by an instinctive, primal fear of the unseen things moving in the forest, Ada flees the camping expedition. However, she can’t bring herself to leave the defenseless and obviously confused man to wander the woods alone. Believing him to be homeless, she plans to take him to the shelter the minute she gets back to town, but she can never quite bring herself to ditch him.
Ada resists her attraction to the beautiful, delusional man, until an unusual gift leaves her with the ability to see through fairy glamour. Now she is forced to choose sides in the secret war between the humans and the ruthless fey-a battle in which she risks losing everything she holds dear, including the man-or beast- of her dreams.
KELPIE is a paranormal romance with fantasy elements, and will appeal to fans of paranormal romance and urban fantasy alike.

Sometimes our greatest strengths come from our deepest challenges. I write magic and romance, starring a cast of creatures with feathers, fins, and teeth. My books include paranormal romance, urban fantasy, and fantasy romance--with the occasional steampunk or alien story thrown in just for kicks. My pan heart firmly believes love is love, so you'll see straight, LGBTQIA, monogamous, reverse harem, and poly relationships in my work. My favorite theme is overcoming our inner demons and the insecurities that hold us back.
I also advocate for self-development and mental health and dabble in non-fiction as time allows. I love the outdoors and still hope to be abducted by fae! (I may have more in common with my characters than I care to admit.)

Liked the author but this book wasn’t for me.

1 star... This book was bad, so bad I may have given up and skipped to the end. I will avoid this author like the plague in the future.

2 stars... This book was not very good, and I won't be reading any more from the author.

3 stars... This book was ok, but I won't go out of my way to read more, But if I find another book by the author for under a dollar I'd pick it up.

4 stars... I really enjoyed this book and will definitely be on the look out to pick up more from the series/author.

5 stars... I loved this book! It has earned a permanent home in my collection and I'll be picking up the rest of the series and other books from the author ASAP.

Intriguing

This book made me really think about things. Do other creatures exist? I think so, can I see them (I wish). Really liked this book.

I enjoyed this book way more than I expected to. The first bit I was pretty apprehensive but by the end I was sad that the book was ending.

This book is so original. I didn't even know what a Kelpie was until I read the book and did some online research. This is not your typical fairy novel! What I really appreciated was the author's ability to draw attention to reality using fantasy. You have this fantasy world that seems brutal and cold in ways, but then you realize it mirrors our world. If I was an outsider to this world, wouldn't it look cold and desperate at times because I didn't understand it? The author does an amazing job of creating this foreign feel to everything about the world of the Kelpie. I did feel the ending was a bit rushed, but the book in general moves at a good pace. This is a great read!

I love stories that mesh the world of fairy with the human world. Kelpies are often portrayed as terrible being, and I am glad that Draper did not turn Leith into a cute and cuddly creature. He still held the darkness that Fae are capable of, yet he had a good side to him too. Ada was a bit frustrating in her reluctance to accept the hidden world around her, but Leith more than made up for it with his patience. I would read more from this author.

Mini Review:
Characters' reactions to certain things were unrealistic (granted the cop in the book did tell Ada she was stupid for bringing a crazy homeless man into her home, so I suppose at least it was addressed as being weird), but it was a fun and fairly quick read nonetheless. I had never read about kelpies before, so I liked that aspect, and this seemed like an interesting take on the creature.

I liked it. I would honestly give this 3.5 stars. I loved Leith - the fay, horse shape-shifter. Who wouldn't love a man that could do that? I liked where the story ended. There is definitely a possibility to write more, I think.

I think the author needs a better editor. And the turmoil that the h was feeling towards the H seemed unnecessary. Other than that, well done.
