Born and bred Cleveland, I earned a degree in technical theater, later switched to costuming, and headed to NYC. Finally seeing the futility of trying to become rich and famous in the Big Apple, I joined VISTA—Volunteers in Service to America—ending up in Chicago for three years. Then it was on to Denver, where I put down roots and worked as a costume designer until I retired in 2007.

I began writing a few years ago after joining an online fanfic group. Two friends and I then started a group for writers, where they could post any story they wished, no matter the genre or content. Since then I've been writing for publication. My first book came out in February of 2011. Most, but not all, of my work is M/M, either mildly erotic or purely 'romantic'. More often than not it involves a mystery or action/adventure, and is sometimes paranormal as well.

A Hearts On Fire Review

TWO & A HALF STARS--"Missing, Presumed..." is book #3 in the Winterfield series by Edward Kendrick. The reader is introduced to private investigator, Ezra who has been commissioned to search for a missing porn king and while on his case, he meets a possible love interest - who works for the missing porn king.

This story is not a romance. It's more of a crime-filled-mystery that left me with questions at the end. One...what was the purpose of the murder? Did I expect the abrupt ending? No, but to me it made little sense. And if the bad guy(s) were the ones to hire Ezra in the first place...why even have this story?

Then the weak 'romance' (it's a loose description) ends with a HFN - no declarations of insta-love here. In fact Ezra's love interest is a suspect from another case and both men had barely any spark. On the spark-o-meter, with 1 being the lowest and 5 the highest - their spark is at 1. Maybe they'll be happy in the future...eh, I'm not invested to find out.

The story is okay. It dragged some in the middle because Ezra starts another case while in the middle of another case and then I had to read back to remember who's who. And then once we learn who is behind the murder, it lost half a star for the weak end. The story is interesting enough but no depth was given to any of the characters.

The best possible audience for this book would be those who are following along in the series or those seeking GBLT books with little/no romance.

Ezra is a private detective who is hired by the wife of a porn king Maddox Fulton who is missing and discovers that the man has been murdered, he is also hired to find who is leaving strange gifts on an older man’s doorstep and discovers the culprit, Gabriel, worked for the murdered man. Ezra is then hired to discover who the murderer is and it brings him into closer contact with Gabriel and his attraction to the man develops.

This story takes a step back from romance, although there is a hint of it, and concentrates on Ezra’s investigations. Ezra finds himself in sticky situation when he is hired to find a missing man, he finds himself trying to find out the truth when the man turns up dead, but with a list of people who hated the man untangling the web of lies isn’t easy. Discovering that Gabriel is the culprit behind leaving gifts at another clients fathers home is easy, talking him out of doing it again Ezra discovers his own attraction to Gabriel.

I enjoyed following Ezra through his investigations, his own admitted ‘stumbling in the dark’ guesses and I enjoyed seeing him connect with Gabriel. The mystery surrounding Fulton’s murder is good and I liked how it was set out although the culprit surprised me, because I had it set in my mind who it was and then, wham, we’re thrust into a situation with Ezra that boggles the mind. The tentative relationship with Gabriel is good and you can see that although the setting isn’t ideal they make a good first connection.

I will recommend this to those who love private investigators, danger, mystery and the beginning of a relationship.

A quick rundown: Era is a PI that is making ends meet. He has a few cases that are keeping him busy even in the snowy weather. One case is a stalker leaving odd gifts to a man’s father, another a woman has hired him to find her missing husband, a porn movie maker that nobody really likes. There are lots of twists, turns and one case leads to a possible new romantic interest for Ezra.
Ok. Though this is part of a series I would actually call these books more stands alones than a series. The only real connection to a series is the name of the town Winterfield, where the stories all take place and a few characters are mentioned and spring forth another book. I have loved all of this series and though I have read them all none were in order and I wasn’t lost at all. I had hoped though that going back and reading the later ones would have connected the characters and gave me more info on them but it didn’t.
I loved this story with the suspense and intrigue and the twists and turns. Though there is no actual sex you can’t help but wish for some with the teasing Gabriel tosses at Ezra. I loved the characters and all their little quirks . I think I liked that none of these characters are the average run of the mill person. I would absolutely love more of this story and their relationship if it happens. Hint, hint to the author if you read this.. I can’t wait for more in this series.
Recommendations: If you like a good suspense, murder mystery, lots of twists, private detectives, Drag Queens and Edward Kendrick you will love this one.

Missing, Presumed... is more a mystery than a love story. Now, I know that sometimes I complain about the lack of romance, but not in this case. I was so engrossed in the book, that I didn't miss it not having enough romantic components at all.

Despite all clues to the culprit's identity, the ending came as a complete surprise and wasn't what I was expecting. Great book, highly recommended!

I liked it, but the abrupt ending that left a lot of loose ends was frustrating.

Not impressed with the story or characters - just a flat read for me.
