Using coins, commemorative building inscriptions, and a rigorous linguistic analysis of the Koran along with Persian and Christian literature from the seventh and eighth centuries--when Islam was in its formative stages--five expert contributors attempt a reconstruction of this critical time period. Despite the scholarly nature of their work, the implications of their discoveries are ·Islam originally emerged as a sect of Christianity. ·Its central theological tenets were influenced by a pre-Nicean, Syrian Christianity.·Aramaic, the common language throughout the Near East for many centuries and the language of Syrian Christianity, significantly influenced the Arabic script and vocabulary used in the Koran. ·Finally, it was not until the end of the eighth and ninth centuries that Islam formed as a separate religion, and the Koran underwent a period of historical development of at least 200 years. روایاتی جدید از تاریخ صدر اسلام منطبق بر شیوه انتقادی تاریخی
برخلاف روایات گذشته که همگی منطبق بر تاریخ نگاری اسلامی است نویسنده بر اساس کتیبه ها و سنگ نبشته و سکه های موجود از ابتدای تاریخ اسلام به نقد صدر اسلام و نفی حضور محمد بعنوان پیامبری جدید ان هم از صحرای عربستان پرداخته است.
ایده ای که به نظر میرسه برای تکمیل شدن آن میاز به بررسی های بیشتر در زمینه باستان شناسی منطقه میانرودان و بین النهرین دارد

ضروری برای هر محقق فرهنگ‌های خاورمیانه که مجبور است به مطالعه‌ی جنبه‌های تاریخی موضوعش. موضوعی برای پرداختنی ناتمام.

مترجم متاسفانه کتاب را نه تنها بد ترجمه کرده و بسیاری از واژه ها را نشناخته و تعمدا حذف کرده، که باید گفت کل کتاب را به سلیقه خود و گزینشی ترجمه کرده است. واقعا درک نمی کنم که چگونه مترجمی به خود اجازه می دهد کتابی که بالغ بر ۶۰۰ صفحه است را به حدود ۳۰۰ صفحه تقلیل دهد . توصیه می کنم در صورت دسترسی و امکان مطالعه، کتاب را به زبان آلمانی و یا ترجمه انگلیسی آن بخوانید. چرا که این ترجمه به هیچ وجه حق مطلب را ادا نمی کند.
