लावा कुछ बिछड़ने के भी तरीक़े हैं खैर, जाने दो जो गया जैसे थकन से चूर पास आया था इसके गिरा सोते में मुझपर ये शजर क्यों इक खिलौना जोगी से खो गया था बचपन में ढूँढ़ता फिरा उसको वो नगर-नगर तन्हा आज वो भी बिछड़ गया हमसे चलिए, ये क़िस्सा भी तमाम हुआ ढलकी शानों से हर यक़ीं की क़बा ज़िंदगी ले रही है अंगड़ाई पुर-सुकूँ लगती है कितनी झील के पानी पे बत पैरों की बेताबियाँ पानी के अंदर देखिए बहुत आसान है पहचान इसकी अगर दुखता नहीं तो दिल नहीं है जो मंतज़िर न मिला वो तो हम हैं शर्मिंदा कि हमने देर लगा दी पलटके आने में आज फिर दिल है कुछ उदास-उदास देखिए आज याद आए कौन न कोई इश्क़ है बाक़ी न कोई परचम है लोग दीवाने भला किसके सबब से हो जाएँ

Written 17 years after Tarkash, this was a delight to read. The quality and impact of all the ghazals and nazme are much better than his previous work.
I read the kindle version, and there were footnotes for each and every difficult Urdu word which enhanced the experience further.
Enjoyed this very much.

Javed Akhtar wrote in d introduction that Shaayari should be a combination of both heart and mind. And this book of poetry is both heartfelt and polished.
Liked this book more compared to his earlier "Tarkash". And loved d nazms more than d ghazals. This book came out 17 yrs after Tarkash and the author asks d reader "Der to aaye, lekin durust aaye ?"

It is always pleasing to watch the world from a poet's point of view. They have such great vision of seeing things in a different way.

"शुक्र है ख़ैरियत से हूं साहब
आपसे और क्या कहूं साहब
हम तुम्हे याद करते, रो लेते
दो घड़ी मिलता जो सुकूँ साहब"
बहुत कम ऐसी किताबें रहीं है कि जिनको मैने शुरू करने के महज़ एक दिन में पूरा किया है। 'लावा' पहली शायरी की किताब है जो मैने पढ़ी है, और अब अगली जब भी पढ़ू तो उसकी quality की इससे तुलना करता रहूंगा 🤧
कुछ नज़्में इसमें उन्होंने अपनी wife, शबाना के लिए लिखी है, जिनमें एक का नाम भी शबाना के ही नाम पर है। बहुत प्यारी नज़्में और ग़ज़लें हैं 🥹
कुछ शेर जो मुझे काफी अच्छे लगे:
"जब आईना कोई देखो इक अजनबी देखो
कहां पे लाई है तुमको ये ज़िंदगी देखो
मुहब्बतो में कहां अपने वास्ते फुर्सत
जिसे भी चाहा वो चाहे मेरी खुशी देखो
जो हो सके तो ज्यादा ही चाहना मुझको
कभी जो मेरी मुहब्बत में कुछ कमी देखो"
Uff
और
"बरसों की रस्मो-राह थी इक रोज उसने तोड़ दी
चालक हम भी कम नहीं उम्मीद हमने छोड़ दी
थोड़ी सी पाई थी खुशी तो सो गई थी ज़िंदगी
ए दर्द तेरा शुक्रिया जो इस तरह झंझोड़ दी"
इस दूसरे शेर की तरह कई ऐसी lines है जहां जादू साहब गम और दर्द में एक acceptance पाने की बात करते है। पर ultimately वो अपने दुखो से बाहर निकलकर, आगे बढ़ने की बात भी करते है
"उसका जो हाल है वहीं जाने
अपना तो ज़ख्म भर गया कब का"
Throughout the book एक बहुत अच्छा balance है। कुछ शायरी बोहोत emotions से भरी है तो कुछ में काफी philosophical questions भी हैं।
बात ये है के मुझे बोहोत अच्छी लगी।
It was a breath of fresh air for me.🤍

Lava has very deep,sensitive and a little gloomy collection of poems about dreams,loneliness,grief,solitude,emptiness and void in a artist's life. It has some heart-warming poems about two lovers' dependence on each other and how one preserves another in some of the hardest times of life. It has great variety of subjects and all poems sincere and honest that it goes straight from heart to heart. It is a book that reflects so many shades of life, that evokes so many emotions into the mind of the reader. It is a satisfying experience to read this book that stirs both your heart and mind to the very deepest of its core.

वाह…..
ग़ज़लों और नज़्मों का क्या ख़ूबसूरत संग्रह है।
ग़ज़लें खूबसूरत हैं नज़्मों की ख़ूबसूरती बाखूब है। हर एक नज्म बहुत गहरी, विचारों से भारी हुए है और बहुत कुछ सोचने में मजबूर भी करती है।
अख़्तर साहब की ये किताब ज़रूर पढ़ी जानी चाहिए।
ग़ज़लों और नज़्मों का क्या ख़ूबसूरत संग्रह है।

और घनेरे पेड की इक डाली से लिपटी
बेल में
सारी पेड की रंगत
पेड की खुशखबर
समा गई थी
बेल भी पेड का इक हिस्सा थी
पेड के बारे मे
यूँ तो सौ अफसाने थे
बेल का कोई जिक्र नही था
पेड पे रंगो का मौसम था
बेल पे जैसे
हल्की सी मुस्कान के
नन्हे फूल खिले थे

जिंदगी भर मेरे काम आए उसूल
एक-एक करके उन्हें बेचा किया
---

I am smiling throughout the book, especially in the second half. By then you are well-acquainted with the style, with the art of seeing the meaning, the last line making the impact with bang and you can't stop saying wah!
I love Hindi and Urdu poetry for its deep meaning of life derived from a smallest thing in life. Like the tree and vine in the above poem. There are many other remarkable things too. The rhythm, the depth, the emotions it brings from just two lines, the way it finds the hidden match to the words and relates to you. No wonder poetry makes you touch the hell and heaven and the most beautiful part of our souls.
PS. The book is mostly highlighted now that I finished it.

Javed Akhtar is one of the most admired contemporary Urdu poets. His lyrics can be deep and full of melancholy, philosophy, and pain. His range is wide and his style is very modern. This book presents life's philosophy and pain in simple but deep words. I can see a reflection of Kaifi Azmi's style in these verses. His poetry isn't heavy like that of Faiz. That's his style: poetry in its 'lite' version without cutting on sense or beauty. This book is good overall and excellent in parts.

It has been a 2 year journey with this book. I don't know what's with the words of Javed Akhtar but they seem to create some sort of magic. Just read him, listen to him, and enjoy the mundane.
