I've been engaging the practice of lectio divina more these days and this Bible has been a great tool to augment this. A word or phrase will catch my attention and seeing extended meanings of words in the Greek or Hebrew intensifies my mulling over the text.
This is like reading the text with a thesaurus and taking the time to see words relate and trail. I'm often left with an image in mind, like from Matthew 4 which reads, "people possessed by demons," where the Greek word also related to being mobbed by demons. That's an image.
I have an older NASB edition of this Bible, but its 1977 rendering of the Psalms or other addresses of God retain the old, King James-like English. The ESV allows for smoother reading in group settings.
I'll enjoy using this Bible. I'm benefiting from meditating on the words of the text and meditation is deepened through this study, to a point where I can be lost in prayer, imagining these word-images I mentioned.
