After breaking up with her longtime boyfriend, Julia Woods is ready to start fresh in a new town, a new state. She doesn't want to get involved with another man, and especially not with an adrenalin junkie.
The instant attraction she feels when she meets Stephen McGettis frightens her. She's never experienced something so strong, yet she worries about starting a relationship with him. With his motorcycle racing, whitewater rafting, and skydiving, he's as much of an adrenalin junkie as her former lover.
Stephen loves Julia and doesn't want to lose her because of her concern over what she considers his dangerous pastimes. He has to prove to her he's not a daredevil, and that love is the greatest adventure of all.
Smolder
In town to visit her grandmother in the hospital, Rayna Holt never expected to run into her ex-husband, Marcus. Seeing him reminds her of all the pain and loss she'd experienced five years ago that led to their divorce.
Marcus is still angry and hurt over Rayna destroying their marriage. They're forced to spend time together while the construction company he works for repairs her grandmother's house due to a fire. Old desires smolder beneath the surface, but Marcus is leery of giving in to them. Rayna broke his heart when she left him. He can't live through that kind of pain again.
Both Rayna and Marcus have to let go of the past before they can forgive each other and fall in love again.
Spark
Talia King has loved Dylan Westfield ever since the day she met him two years ago, but he treats her as nothing but a friend. Every attempt she's made to date him or spend more time with him has been shot down by Dylan.
Dylan loves Talia as much as she loves him, but his painful past won't let him surrender to that love. Fear of physically hurting her keeps him alone and aching for a life with her…a life he knows he cannot have.
A night of passion convinces Talia that she and Dylan are perfect together. Dylan admits his love to Talia, but tells her it doesn't matter since they can never be together.
Talia hatches a plan to convince Dylan that she knows he would never hurt her. It might backfire, but she believes it's worth the risk to be with the man she loves.
I was born and raised in a small town in Texas close to the Dallas/Fort Worth area. Writing has been in my blood since I was eight years old and wrote my first story for an English assignment. The baby of four children, I was spoiled rotten and still am.
I can't imagine ever writing anything but romances. I enjoy writing about two people (or sometimes more than two) falling in love. If you like the story enough to smile in places, shed a tear at times, or get a warm and fuzzy feeling, that is my greatest reward.
Besides writing at every opportunity, I love reading, traveling, scrapbooking, photography, and learning new things on the computer. I'm a software junky and like trying out new programs, especially anything to do with graphics.
I moved back to Texas after living on the West Coast for 21 years, to a small town 17 miles from where I grew up. I live close to my only surviving sister.
This book consists of 3 SMOKING HOT short reads about volunteer fire fighters.
Story Number One: SINGE, Stephan’s and Julia’s Story Story Rating ~ 4 Stars Hero Rating ~ 5 Stars Heroine Rating ~ 3 Stars Romance Rating ~ 4 Stars Heat Level ~ 4 Stars Overall Rating ~ 4 Stars
What Worked For me the best part of Singed was Stephan McGettis. He was EVERYTHING a woman could wish for and so much more. The sex scenes were SCORCHERS and EXTREMELY SENSUAL!
What Did Not Work The fact that the heroine Julia expected Stephan to change his ways after only being together for a very short time.
Overall Thoughts This story was VERY enjoyable. I LOVED Stephan to pieces. I did like Julia, but disagreed with some of the things she did. The secondary characters were very well done and added a lot to the overall story line.
Story Number Two: SMOLDER, Marcus and Rayna’s Story Story Rating ~ 4.5 Stars Hero Rating ~ 5 Stars Heroine Rating ~ 4 Stars Romance Rating ~ 4.5 Stars Heat Level ~ 4 Stars Overall Rating ~ 4.5 Stars
What Worked This story was so good! It grabbed my emotions and made me cry for the pain they had went through. I REALLY felt the love these too shared. It also had a lot of SCORCHING, yet tender love scenes.
What did not work Once again, I did not agree with some of the things the heroine did during the course of this story, however she did redeem herself in a HUGE way before the ending.
Overall Thoughts I loved the fact that this was a story about a divorced couple who went through something very tragic only to be brought together 5 years later to finally deal with what had happened. This was a very passionate read that tugged on my heartstrings.
Story Number Three, SPARK, Dylan and Talia’s story Story Rating ~ 4.5 Stars Hero Rating ~ 4.5 Stars Heroine Rating ~ 5 Stars Romance Rating ~ 4 Stars Heat Level ~ 4.5 Stars Overall Rating ~ 4.5 Stars
What worked This was the HOTTEST story of the three and OH MY, by the time I got done reading the first love scene, I needed to change my panties. Once again I really felt the attraction between Dylan and Talia, and I really liked their characters. I LOVED how a few of the characters from the previous two stories were involved in getting Dylan and Talia together.
What Did Not Work Only the fact that it ended all too quickly.
Overall Thoughts I loved the fact that after two years of being extremely attracted to each other, and Dylan refusing to give in, that Talia FINALLY grabbed what she wanted. There was a very satisfying conclusion.
My Final Thoughts on Singe, Smolder and Spark All three of these stories were VERY enjoyable. I have read quite a few of Lynn LaFleur’s books and will continue to read many more. If you have never read a Lynn Lafleur book and love to read VERY STEAMY SENSUAL READS, then I would HIGHLY recommend reading one soon.
*A copy of the book was provided by Kensington Books/ Aphrodisia via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review*
After reading “Hot Shots” I wanted more hunky firemen and this collection provided just that. And again what a cover, I have developed quite a weakness for them.
The three stories take place in the same town and all the characters are connected. They make reappearances in each other's books, not to mention that we see familiar faces from the anthology “Hot Shots”.
The stories were fast paced and full of heat. I liked how these stories besides being fun and sexy also had emotional aspects. Deeper issues that might have been more at home in full novels but somehow the author made it work for these short stories. Another thing I liked was that in all stories I was left guessing what exactly happened in the characters' pasts that had caused the hurt. Which worked for “Smolder” and “Spark” , in “Singe” I was a bit disappointed. Don't get me wrong what happened to her was awful but only her condition was revealed, what about the ex boyfriend in what state was he? Did she gave him the chance to apologize, did he even felt sorry? Those thoughts wandered through my mind when I read that story.
But overall what can I say, I can never get enough of sexy firemen, if you can't either than be sure to read this collection.
Arc received from the publisher in exchange for my honest opinion.
Yep I did it. I read a book that was exactly like reading a soap opera...bad acting and dialogue and everything!... I swear, if a guy referred to my vagina as a "channel" I would slap him and throw him out. Why! Why is this a thing! But it has the most hilarious cover and I did enjoy the looks from other people in the airport! Happy New Year!
Singe 3 Stars Singe featured the story of Stephen and Julia. Julia needed to escape her hometown, so she decided to move from California to a small town in Texas. And when she meets the sexy, volunteer firefighter and roofer, Stephen, she thinks that she may just give love a chance. Sparks fly quickly, till she discover that Stephen is a bit of adrenalin junkie. Julia isn't sure if her heart can handle that again, since the man she left in California was a daredevil too. But Stephen isn't anything like her ex- or so he wants to show her. Bikes, fires, fast cars, and salsa equals one fun ride.
Singe started kinda choppy and abrupt, but the flow smoothed out after about chapter. Stephen and Julia meet quickly and form a fast relationship, but they kinda have to since it's a novella. Their fast love didn't really bother me, and I enjoyed seeing them flirt back and forth. But it soon heated up even more, and had a lot of hot, steamy, singe worthy sex scenes. You may never look at Salsa the same again.
There was a lot of characters mentioned, and I'm not really sure how they added to the story. But, Dolly, (who Julia was staying with till she finds a place and owns the local bar) was a great, fun character. She added a lot to this short story.
Smolder 4 Stars Smolder is the story of Marcus and Rayna. Rayna walked out on Marcus and their marriage five years ago. Leaving town, she's only now returned because of her grandma's illness and a fire at her grandma's house. Marcus is not only works with the volunteer fire department, but he now works at the construction company that is fixing her grandma's home. Still angry and hurt at Rayna, Marcus doesn't know what to expect when his ex-wife shows back up in town. Rayna still wants to run, but the two cannot deny the heat and past emotions that swirl between them.
I enjoyed this story a bit more than Singe. It flowed well, I didn't feel overwhelm with the characters. And the best part about Marcus and Rayna was that they had history. Even though it was rocky, it was great to see the simmering passion between the two. The sex in Smolder was just as steamy as Singe, covering multiple chapters of moments. Also, Smolder had a draw of mystery, because the reason why Rayna left isn't mentioned till the end. I kept trying to figure it out through the whole book.
Smolder gave a better look into the fire department with the men answering a call. I enjoyed this even though it was short, and found it realistic.
Spark 3 Stars Talia and Dylan both volunteer together at the local fire department. Talia has had a crush on Dylan since she started there, and even though Dylan realizes this (and has feelings for Talia) he refuses to act on them. Then a night of passion finally forces the two to confront their feelings. Dylan says they can never work, which leaves Talia to hatch a plan that proves that they can.
Spark finally delivers in full what the other two lacked. I loved seeing the whole fire department interact with each other for multiple chapters. This was what I was expecting more of when picking up a fireman book. I wanted to the relationships within the department, and Spark delivers with some of these moments. There is still a lot of characters running around and making appearances, that I wasn't sure how they exactly fit into the story. It didn't bother me as much though since it was at community gathering. More so though, it was great seeing appearance by Marcus and Rayna.
Spark has a nice build, but the so called spark between Talia and Dylan didn't flow as smooth as the previous two. Well the author still delivers a lot of steam, it didn't provide the same "punch" as the first novellas. Steam aside, Talia and Dylan have a great plot line and story. And Spark would be my second favorite in the book.
Overall Overall, I enjoyed these short novellas. I wish I could have seen a bigger theme running through and interconnecting the three of them. However, the small nods here and there were nice. The sex as the title says was "SMOKIN HOT." The actually scenes though were long and drawn out over multiple chapters with a lot of explicitly. It was almost overdone, and I wished for a little less heat and little more build. The characters, especially Marcus, Stephen, Dolly, and Talia will win you over. If you love firefighters, give this book a chance.
*Thanks to NetGalley and Kensington Books for providing this copy in exchange for an honest review.
I was so disappointed... This book is false advertising!!!!!!
You look at the cover and think, "Oh baby, a fireman book! YUM!". Yeah, no. In fact, they characters aren't exactly firemen. They're volunteer fireman. Nothing wrong with that!! Buuuuuut, I didn't expect to get a roofer when I'm picking up this book.
The books didn't even emphasize the firefighter side! Ugh....
Smokin' Hot by author Lynn LaFleur contains the three following novellas. Singe, Smolder, and Spark. Three hot firefighters and the women who love them. Singe In Singe we meet Stephen an Adrenaline Junkie. And Julia the shy girl who wants everything safe and orderly. These two are the most unlikely of duos. They have great chemistry and are well written. I just found Julia’s expectations to be a little off. She expected Stephen to change everything about himself. But once she gets over that part it is a great story. Smolder In Smolder, we meet Marcus who has lost everything. Including his family and job. Rayna the ex-wife that took everything from him. When her mom goes to the hospital it is Marcus who redoes her grandmother’s house and helps out despite feeling hurt over what Rayna has done. These two I loved the most. They have a lot of love and misunderstandings. They truly do belong together. Spark In this one, we meet Talia who has been in love with Dylan for two years. Little does she know he has been in love with her too. Just has been scared to risk his heart again. He has had a lot of pain to deal with. He would rather have her friendship than lose her forever. And wow this one has some heat, bring your fan out when you read this one. Overall these are great reads. Quick easy to read and fun. I would love to read more in this series and see some more hot men and the women who love them.
I enjoyed these stories. I won't reread them or seek anything out by this author but if I see her name I won't put it back. I liked the 1st story best. fast-forwarded though the second. I'm not a big fan of we broke up but now are back together because it was a huge mistake. Then why did you break up? I did find the reason for the breakup believable in this case though. The 3rd one was good but I found the ending a bit to convenient. I made you mad so now you know you'll never it me. Really? I little more needed to be done but it is a short story so it is understandable.
Singe Julia Woods had been in a relationship with her ex Cody in California who was a Firefighter and an “adrenaline junkie.” There was one final day to their relationship that marked the end and caused her to move to Lanville, Texas. She moves in with her mom’s college friend Dolly. Even though Julia was a firefighter for the U.S. Forest Service she really worked as a researcher, and a firefighter as needed. When she moves with Dolly she’s told she can work in Dolly’s bar but with her sexy body that’s not what she wants for herself. With jobs hard to find she gets a housekeeping job at a B & B. You see she was caught up in one of her ex’s rushes and was injured to the point where she could not work as a firefighter and it might not be for a long while if ever. What’s funny on her trip to Dolly’s she runs into four sexy as all get out guys at a fast food restaurant. One extremely. That one happens to not only live in Lanville too but is at Dolly’s the next morning when she wakes up, Stephen McGettis. You see he is a roofer and Dolly needs her roof done and Stephen and Dusty his cousin will be doing it. She finds out that he is a volunteer firefighter and it seems like he too could like the adrenaline rush. From that first meeting this book moves fast. So does this relationship, a little too fast, really. LOL Cute story, all sex, so, if sex is not what your game, step away from this book. I give this a 4 star for cute story and a 3 star for a too fast in the sack. Smolder Marcus Holt was a pained man and a volunteer firefighter. You see five years ago on 4th of July a devastating tragedy stole everything from him. This event then caused his wife to just walk away from him and their marriage and never look back. Leaving him with the mess of the home and all the pain to suffer through all alone. So, he lived his life in Lanville, Texas where he grew up trying to live as best he can. It’s not easy with the love of his life Rayna Holt, his ex-wife living in San Francisco. He took his vows very serious because he meant with his whole heart. Most of all he loved Rayna since he was 15, so her leaving him killed him and still is very slowly. When Rayna’s grandmother, Grace, has a heart problem she is forced for the first time in all the five years to fly back to Lanville. A place where she said she would never ever set foot in again. The same night she arrives at the hospital, the new housing track where Rayna just bought and moved her grandma into breaks out into a fire from a fire in a field nearby. Several homes were lost, some were damaged a great deal and some like Grace’s were a lot less damaged but still not able to move back into for at least a month or so. She’s told to hire Coleman’s Construction that they are the most honest and the best. So the next morning she heads over to make an appointment. The foreman for Coleman’s is no other than Marcus Holt. Rayna’s and Marcus life takes an unusual turn of events from here on out. Ones that are as hot as a fire but so sexually charged they could light up all of New York City will all the energy being set off in each kiss, touch, and look. Enjoyed this but felt like it was wrapped up just a little too neatly and fast. Could understand the falling into bed but not the sexual hostage vs. emotional hostage, now I’ll take you back? For that I will have to give it 3 stars. Sparked Dylan Westfield and Talia King are Volunteer firefighters for the Lanville, Texas Fire Dept. They both posed for the fundraising calendar also. Before that they had eyes only for each other. Dylan as much as he wanted and really loved everything about Talia due to his background really felt he could not subject her to his kind of love. So, for the two years they’ve known each other he has painfully lusted over her from afar. Talia on the other hand, from day one, fell madly and crazily in love with Dylan. Was beginning to see though that she was going to only be just one of the “guys” a “friend” and nothing more to Dylan. She really needed to wake up and smell the roses. It was time she stopped crushing and started giving other guys who asked her out a real chance. Once she does it breaks her heart to the point of tears. Dylan sees since she reaches out to another guy friend for a hug and Dylan sees red. Dylan tries to hunt down whose hurt her, while he spins his wheels looking for himself, Talia looks to her friends to help her forget him. Can they help her? Does he figure out he is looking for himself? You’ll have to read and find out. I give this story a 5 stars. Singe is about a woman that moves to a new town in order to both start over and run from her past.
Julie moves to a small town in Texas where no one knows anything about her. She takes her mom’s friend, Dolly, up on her offer to stay with her until she can find a job and a place of her own. It doesn’t take long before Julia finds herself drooling over one of the town’s local volunteer firefighters, but feels she is not ready for a relationship. However, she is willing to go on a date with the gorgeous hunk of a man.
Stephen sees Julia the first day she is in town but thinks she is just passing through and he will never see her again. He can’t help but think about her body and what he would love to do to it. Stephen is a very active person staying busy with his adventurous active lifestyle and jobs and doesn’t really have time for much else. When Stephen runs into Julia while giving Dolly an estimate on her roof from the hail damage, Stephen and Julia both feel the mutual attraction.
When Julie discovers he’s an adrenalin junkie, she decides she can’t be with him. She just moved to a new town to get away from that kind of relationship. Can Stephen change her mind about him and still do the things he loves to do?
My Favorite Moment: I loved when Stephen asked Julia “What do you think about skydiving?”
“That people are insane to jump out of a perfectly good airplane with nothing but some cloth to keep them from splattering all over the ground.”
Stephen threw back his head and laughed out loud. “Don’t hold back, darlin’. Tell me how you really feel.”
Singe deserves 5 HOT stars!
Smolder is a story of reunited love. This is a very emotional story about loss and a love that can continue where it left off.
Marcus found himself in Lanville not long after his much unwanted divorce. The hardest day will always be July 5th, for that was the day his entire world shattered. Marcus stays busy being a foreman for a construction company and also being a volunteer fireman to help bury the loss of his son and by forgetting that the love of his wife walked out on him.
Rayna left her husband shortly after the loss of their son. She vowed to never return to Texas as the memories are just too painful, but she has no choice but to return to Lanville five years after her divorce when her grandmother is admitted into the hospital.
Rayna never thought for a moment that she would run into Marcus at the hospital for his own injury and also have to turn to his company to fix the damages to her grandmother’s home after a fire destroys her neighborhood. A past like theirs is going to very hard to come to terms with when the love between them is still so strong.
My Favorite Moments: I have to say my favorite and most emotional moment was when Rayna discovers Marcus’s tattoo that symbolizes the son that they shared and lost.
Smolder gets a Blazin 4 stars!
Spark is about two people that secretly love each other but cannot seem to leave the ‘just friends’ zone.
Talia is a volunteer firewoman at the Lanville Fire Department. She decided to volunteer so she could help the community and to be close to a very handsome Dylan Westfield. Talia has asked Dylan out several times and all he ever says is no. She sees the lust in his eyes whenever he looks at her, so why does he keep trying to keep her at a distance?
Dylan secretly loves Talia, except it’s not really a secret when everyone knows except Talia and Dylan himself. Dylan has a past that he feels he cannot run from and it prevents him from getting attached to someone special. However, when Talia gets a little tipsy and refuses to accept that Dylan does not want her, she will push him to his limits of love and trust.
My Favorite Moment: I am torn between when Talia decides to eat ribs in front of Dylan and when Talia tries to blame Paige for the band playing in her head.

These three stories continue with the wonderful volunteer firefighters from Lanville, Texas. The first story I read about these characters was in the book titled Hot Shots that included three short stories from different authors. The one in mention is titled Sizzle. You can read my review here. The stories can all be read independently, but when it comes to sexy fireman, I personally don’t want to miss a single one.
Singe is about a woman overcoming her past to allow herself to fall in the present. And honestly, who wouldn’t want to fall head over heels for the hotness that is Stephen.
Julie moves to a new town where she knows pretty much no one just to get away from her past, but it doesn’t take long for her to fit right in. She lives with her mother’s longtime friend, Dolly, who treats her like a daughter. I love her; she’s funny and calls it like she sees it.
Stephen stays busy with his motorcycle racing, skydiving, a roofing business, and volunteer firefighting, but when he meets Julie he can’t help but make her a priority. He wants her like he has never wanted anyone and the feelings seem to be mutual. But when Julie discovers he’s an adrenalin junkie like her ex, she can’t be with him, no matter how much she’s already feeling for him. Now if he can only persuade her to change her mind?
My Favorite Moment: I absolutely loved it when Dolly asked Julie how Stephen was in bed and mentioned she knew that he would be great because of his swagger. Goodness gracious, now I’ll be watching for swagger!
Singe gets a Smokin’ Hot 5 stars!
Smolder is a story of reunited love. And it is by far the most emotional story I’ve read in this series so far. Keep the tissues handy!
Marcus found himself in Lanville not long after his much unwanted divorce. First he lost his son, and then he lost his wife. He was a broken man clinging to everything he’d lost and it was heartbreaking.
A devastated Rayna fled after the loss of her son. Everything was a reminder of what she’d lost and she needed to leave it all behind…including the love of her life. Five years after her life dramatically changed, a twist of fate kept putting Rayna and Marcus in the same places at the same times. But getting over a past like theirs in order to fan the flame that still burned between them was not an easy task.
My Favorite Moments: I have two that stick out the most to me. The first was a trip down memory lane about mushrooms and Salisbury steak. The second was the emotional high it takes to not notice it’s raining.
Smolder gets a Smokin’ Hot 4 stars!
Spark is a tale of two people who are in love with each other, but who live in the ‘just friends’ area.
Talia has been in love with Dylan since she met him, and the two years since have only served to make that love grow stronger. Too bad every time she asks him out he says no. And too bad it looks like she’ll be stuck in the friend zone forever. But you can’t force someone to love you who simply doesn’t.
Dylan is in love with Talia, but a past he wishes he could forget keeps him from getting close to her. What it doesn’t stop is him from giving into her when she throws her slightly tipsy self on him. There’s simply only so much restraint a man can have when the woman he loves is touching him and kissing him before he gives in and completely consumes her right back.
I’d read about their attraction to each other in Sizzle and was so glad to finally get to read their story.
My Favorite Moment: Finding where a tipsy Talia disappeared to and hearing her try to explain that she was there to escape someone who was part octopus.
Author Lynn LeFleur takes us back to Lanville, Texas and the hottest firemen on the planet. In the anthology Smokin’ Hot she gives us three novellas featuring different members of the town’s volunteer fire department. So grab a drink, sit back and enjoy as three hotter than sin fireman turn up the heat and fight their way into the hearts of three very lucky women.
Singe Julia Woods moves to Lanville, Texas vowing to start over and change her life. The last thing she wants or needs is to have an immediate attraction to volunteer fireman and Stephen McGettis. Somehow though he slips through her defenses and they wind up in a passionate affair. I really enjoyed these two together, Stephen seemed to be at a point in his life where he was ready for something more committed yet Julia just wouldn’t allow herself to go there again especially given Stephen’s need for adventure. One area these two were perfectly matches was in bed and holy hell did they burn up the sheets (pun intended)! This is a novella so the relationship progressed rather quickly however, I enjoyed every minute I spent in their company.
Smolder I really loved this story because it brings together two people who were torn apart following a terrible tragedy. The last person Marcus Holt ever expected to run in to in the tiny town of Lanville was his ex-wife of 5 years, Rayna. But when her grandmother is hospitalized, she returns to town and is surprised to see this is where her ex landed after their divorce. There was so much history and hurt going on between these two yet it was so plain to see that they clearly still loved one another. I’ll admit at first I wasn’t sure if Rayna was good for Marcus but she managed to win me over and the fact that despite everything he was able to let it all go and wanted her back in his life was enough for me. There’s nothing hotter than two people who know each other so well having make up sex after 5 years apart; whew I needed a cold shower after that scene. While sexy as all get out, this one was pretty emotional as well so have a couple of tissues ready just in case.
Spark For two years Talia King has wanted Dylan Westfield one of the other volunteer firemen she works with but she’s put herself out there and he’s turned her down so she’s about given up hope. She thinks he doesn’t want her but what she doesn’t know is Dylan has loved her from afar but feels he can’t be what she needs and is afraid of hurting her. I love these stories where two people have wanted each other for so long and finally have a moment where they give in and just do it and these two do it in style in a most unusual place! After working together for two years, these two know each other fairly well so the fast progression of their relationship came as no surprise especially once they realized what they were missing. While Dylan had some issues to work though, I love that Talia was strong enough to force him to face them so they could move forward.
Warning contains minor spoilers. Arc provided by NetGalley for an honest review.
These are three Firefighter basic erotic short stories about three separate couples. Although in each story the couple's situations are different, they are all pretty instant and to the point ( with the exception of Spark where they had been dancing around their attraction for about two yrs). The language and descriptions on all three stories was pretty hot but there were certain details that turned me off a bit. I felt there needed to be more into the relationships, it just felt purely physical and not deep enough for declarations of love.
Singe: Julia Woods moved to Lanville Texas running away from an unhealthy relationship wanting to start fresh elsewhere. Not even there for a day she meets Stephen a hot piece of firefighter beef who has her going back on her staying off men vow. Stephen is a huge adventurer who knows what he likes as soon as he sees it, and she's just his type. This was my least fave of the three. Besides their non existent courtship there is the fact that this chicks wardrobe sounds like one of a 65 yr old versus that of a twenty something yr old's. modern touches in a story can go a long way, keeping the tale fresh and in the now.
Smolder: Tanya and Marcus Holt divorced 5 yrs ago both carrying both carrying painfully scars from the ending of a once passionate loving relationship. When their young son died in an accident Rayna unjustly blames Marcus for his death. She ends up leaving him and running away to San Francisco far away from all the memories of their life together. Now she's back in Lanville after a huge fire damages her grand mother's home. Not only will she have to face Marcus, but admit that maybe she made a mistake walking away from the love of her life. This was definitely my fave of all the three. There is something to be said for second chances. I love these kinds of stories where just when you think all is lost, love always finds a way no matter how hopeless it may seem. Also their chemistry was effing hot! That Marcus has and Alpha streak (YUM) and sure tells her how he wants it in the boudoir.
Spark: Talia King has been in love with and lusting after Dylan Westerfield for over two yrs. After being turned down over and over she's had enough and has decided to move on. Unbeknownst to her Dylan has felt the same way but he has it ingrained in his mind he can't be with her or anyone. Growing up with an abusive father he feels he carries that same anger so he's afraid he'd hurt her. But add one night and alcohol in the mix changes all that. Again though the sex was hot and so was the foreplay, this story was barely even a story worth telling. There really was no major drama here and as soon as she challenges him he gets over his reservations in the blink of an eye. So yeah he basically made drama where there was no need for one. Good read for those who just want the quick rump but nonsensical for those who are looking for something more complex.
I received a copy of this book from NetGalley in place of an honest review.
We get three great mini reads in this book. The author takes us back to Lanville, Texas. We get to see about the town's volunteer fire department and see about the three women that are for them.
Singe:
Julia Woods moved away from everyone and moved to Lanville, Texas to start over with her mom's best friend helping her out. She needed to get away from her ex-boyfriend. She's not ready for another relationship until she see's this man at Burger King but she tells herself to go and not think about him.
Stephen McGettis she's this gorgeous woman at Burger King but thinks she is just passing through town. The next morning when he is looking at a roof he see's her again and knows that he needs to get to know her. Everything goes good until Julia believes he is a adrenalin junkie and she can't live through that again.
This was a great story and sometimes you just have to take a chance on love. There is no way you can get your heart to change it's mind. I had to see if this relationship had a chance.
Smolder:
Rayna Holt only comes back to Texas after she promised herself she never would when she found out about her granmother being in the hospital. She left everything behind five years ago after going through something that no woman should have to go through. She never expected to run into her ex-husband Marcus.
Marcus has had a heart time during the Fourth of July for five years. He still has a lot of hurt and memories that he can't get over. When he see's his ex-wife and knows that he will be seeing her around town for a couple of weeks, he has tons of feelings coming back to him.
This story made me cry. I knew that this couple should have never broken up. I understood how much they went through and when I found out that they haven't slept with anyone else that they still had the chemistry that some people wished they had. They was each other's first and will hopefully be each other's last.
Spark:
Talia King has been in love with Dylan Westfield since she moved to town over two years ago. It seems everything she does won't let him fall in love with her. Both of them being volunteer fire workers doesn't help either.
Dylan does have feelings for Talia and they go pretty deep. His past is holding him back because he believes he will hurt her. Seems that he will have to work something out soon.
This story was really hot just like the other two. I enjoyed reading this book and getting to know six characters. I am a Redskins fan so I don't like the Cowboys. That would be the only thing that would turn me off. I know that everyone has their favorite team and I don't hold that against anyone. I love how the author writes her stories and can't wait to read more.
~SINGE~ When Julia leaves her job and ex, Cole, behind in California after an injury makes her reevaluate things, she decides to take her mother's old college friend's offer to come stay with her in Lanville, TX hoping for a fresh start. Never did she expect smokin' hot roofer -slash- volunteer firefighter, Stephen McGettis, to walk into her life almost immediately. Their attraction is instant and their chemistry is combustible. Yes, he has a rockin' hot bod', the manners of a southern gentleman and the sex may be amazing but she can't help feeling that the similarities Stephen shares with Cole may be too much for her to deal with. Rating: 4.2 ---------------- ~SMOLDER~ Marcus Holt became one of the chiefs at the volunteer fire department and is foreman at Coleman Construction since moving to Lanville from the DFW area after tragedy struck on 4th of July, 5 years ago and his wife left him as a result. Rayna Holt flies back to Lanville from San Francisco when she learns that her grandmother's health suffered some complications. While in the hospital, a brush fire breaks out that damages Grace's home and Marcus is injured. They were looking for a fresh start, but this may have been the spark needed to heal old hurts and rekindle their once searing relationship. Rating: 3.9 ---------------- ~SPARK~ Talia King has been hot for Dylan Westfield since the first day she laid eyes on him. Both serve on the Lanville Volunteer Fire Department, but after two years, she still could not get Dylan to see her as anything other that a fellow firefighter and friend. Or so she thought. But sometimes even the deepest feelings can be suppressed by personal demons. Talia must find a way to get Dylan to open up to her, then prove that he can rise above his past. Rating: 3.6 ----------- Overall comments: Each novella is only about 100 pages. Although short, they are full of enough content to make each one a satisfying story. Each seems to focus on one or both persons seeking an escape from a past hurt by starting a new life in a small town and/or second chances. The town's characters are very well written and introduced throughout the books where you begin to feel as though you know everyone in town without being overwhelmed. The dialogue and interaction between them is wonderful. SMOLDER was fairly predictable in several key areas, but was still a good read. SPARK was mildly predictable. Each had a decent ending. Overall Rating: 3.9
This collection of three novellas is based on three volunteer firefighters and the women in their lives. ‘Smokin’ can certainly be attributed to the fact that each male character is a hot firefighter, but also describes the chemistry between the men and their romantic interests.
In the first story, ‘Singe,’ Julia Woods moves from Northern California to the small town of Lanville, Texas for a fresh start far away from horrible memories. She moves in with her mother’s old college friend, Dolly, who proves to be a wonderful mother figure and confidante. When she meets Stephen McGettis, there is an immediate attraction, but she is not looking for a relationship. When Stephen shows up one morning at Dolly’s house to give an estimate on some construction work, introductions are made and Stephen sets out to win her over. I loved the developing relationship between the two main characters, but just as I became invested in the outcome, the story ended. I found out in one of the following stories that they were still together, but felt really let down. It might benefit the reader for the author to add a bit more to this story so that it doesn’t seem to end so abruptly.
In the second story, ‘Smolder,’ Marcus Holt’s wife left him five years earlier after a tragic accident left them both reeling and her unable to cope. Since then, Marcus has gone through life avoiding being around people other than his fellow firefighters. One day a fire breaks out in the subdivision where his ex-wife’s grandmother lives. When he is injured and taken to the hospital, he runs into his ex-wife, Rayna, who he hasn’t seen in five years, visiting her grandmother. Marcus and Rayna end up working together to repair the fire damage to her grandmother’s house and are forced to confront the tragedy that tore them apart. I really enjoyed this story, but was rather put-out with Rayna for leaving Marcus in the first place instead of working through their grief together.
In the third story, ‘Spark,’ Talia King and Dylan Westfield are both volunteer firefighters. Despite their mutual feelings for each other, Dylan refuses to date Talia or give in to his feelings, but he doesn’t count on Talia’s tenacity and determination to break down the walls of whatever is keeping him from showing her how he feels. One night of mild intoxication turns into a night of discovery and those walls come tumbling down. Enjoyed this story also. It reminded me that sometimes men can be too noble and self-sacrificing. Those are the best kind of men and there are too few of them.
This reviewer recommends this collection of stories as they will uplift and benefit all of us who look for that happy ending for the characters who really deserve it. 4 and ½ stars
Deep in the heart of Texas, the firefighters are hotter, sexier, and totally out of control. . .
Singe
Julia came to Lanville looking for a new start. She had just gone through a bad break up with her adrenaline junkie boyfriend, Cole only to meet up with Stephen. He is a roofer by day, a firefighter when called upon and an adventure/adrenaline junkie all the time. Julia and Stephen hit it hot and heavy pretty fast. LaFleur fills this little goody with steamy love scenes that have you reaching for a fan. That made for a fast read. The way Stephen helped Julia get over her fears and find her courage to try again was just sigh worthy.
Smolder
This is a sweet second chance love story about Marcus and Rayna. They divorced after a tragic event split their marriage apart five years ago. When Rayna returns to Lanville to take care of her Nana and her fire-damaged house, the one person that she ends up working closely with to repair the house is also the person she is trying to avoid. Marcus is a genuine guy who is trapped by his past. Rayna coming back could not have come at a better or worse time. Seeing each other forces them to confront their past. They travel down a rough road to try and right the wrongs that they had done to each other. Giving each other closure is one thing but how they would move forward was the question.
Spark
For years Dylan and Talia have been in love with one another. But Dylan, because of events in his past, has denied his feelings for Talia. Talia, through with waiting for him to make the first move, decides to take a chance and ask Dylan out. Not once, but twice she has been turned down. Assuming she has been permanently put in the “Friend Zone”, Talia decides to just forget Dylan and start moving forward. One fateful night changes all that. With a heavy dose of liquid courage, she decides to tests the waters with Dylan. She is caught off guard when he responds in kind.
Unable to deny his feelings for Talia, he confesses why he cannot be with her. Talia refuses to give up. Talia is one of the most refreshing heroines I have read in awhile. She is smart, sexy and full of fight. It is these characteristics that help her to win her man.
“Smokin’ Hot” is a small collection of stories about the volunteer firefighters in Lanville, TX. These stories made me wanting more. There are so many more stories to be told about this small town, I hope this isn’t the end.

Blurb: Deep in the heart of Texas, the firefighters are hotter, sexier, and totally out of control. .
Singe - Stephen is an adrenaline junkie. And then he meets Julia and her sexy curves. He's on fire with the need for her, a Texas-sized blaze that jumps from one to five alarms the moment their lips touch. . .
Smolder - Marcus lost everything--his wife, his family, his business. Then nearly his life fighting fires. But out of the ashes he found something that never stopped burning. And this time he won't let go...
Spark - Childhood friends Talia and Dylan have been putting out fires as long as they've been in denial about their feelings. But one night everything changes, a fire's lit, and it's too hot to ever go out...
Thoughts: If the cover is not enough to reel you in, the fact that it's about super hot firefighters should do the trick! Smokin' Hot is an anthology with three separate but connected short stories, in which three firefighters who work together hook up with the women they most lust after. I'm usually a little leery of anthologies, as I usually wind up only liking one out of the three or four that are included. However, in this case all three of them are really good, which made for a very strong collection of stories. I particularly enjoyed Singe and Spark, though. Smolder seemed a bit complicated for such a short story, considering the were a divorced couple reconciling.
The only thing that persistently bugged me was a fetish for 'scratching' during the sexy parts. This is not your run of the mill scratching the man's back kind of sexy, but a "So you like your nipples scratched, huh?" type of thing which was a little odd in the story. I just shrugged it off the first time, but in every one of the three stories, there is this odd reference to scratching - so much so that if you couldn't pinpoint the author from the writing style alone, you definitely could by the whole scratching thing. Other than that, it was an amazing set of novellas that were fun, sexy, and steamy enough that you might need to call your own firefighter out to put out the blaze! And wouldn't that be nice?...;)
This pack of three novellas is a good, fast passing and entertaining combination of erotic novels. Each one is different, has a different approach to romance and the characters differ from one story to another. However, they all share the same scenario. In Texas, the volunteer firefighter departments are full of sexy characters with passion running through their veins.
I have different opinions for the three stories. One liked me more than the rest and one could be erased. But overall, I enjoy the intensity, the hotness and the writing in the three novellas.
Singe is my least favorite mainly because I couldn’t buy the explanation of Julia don’t wanting Stephen because he was a lot like her ex. Smolder was my favorite, two ex-lover, former husband and wife, reunited by a series of circumstances is the perfect recipe. It is the most intense story, with passion and feelings in every paragraph and some scenes that will blow your mind. Spark was an ok story. The characters are well described .We get to read about their past and understand why they act as they do. The sex is fascinating and the story has a believable outcome.
Now, as I said the writing is great, it flows naturally and the passing is regular. As they are novellas, the length doesn't allow much character development. The action comes really fast and they go straight to business. This is not at all bad, it's just something that comes with the lenght of the stories.
Set in Lanville, Texas the stories share a cool and relaxed environment. I really liked that the characters were name in the different stories, making it sounds like a whole universe where the characters are experiencing life as it is.
As it is stated on the blurb, it has adult content, or as I call it sex. The scenes are well described and they arrived at the perfect time with a great temperature and atmosphere.
Overall, if you are a fan of erotic romance and enjoy novellas, you should read Smokin’ Hot. There is sweet but strong women, sexy and honest men and exciting moments.

Najee's review from upallnightreadallday.blogspot.com
Singe-
Stephen is a sexy as hell, sweet gentlemen who gets one look at Julia and he's lost. I loved his character, he's a hero, he's a gentlemen with pulling chairs out and helping with clean up and he's smitten. Julia left California for a change and when she meets Stephen she can't say no to anything. I liked her character I just felt that yes her ex hurt her but the build up led you to believe it was like a devastating past for her but that part fell a littke flat for me. I did love how the author nailed the sex scenes, they are hot as hell and oh so sexy...wow. I enjoyed getting to know Dolly and Dusty and liked the small town feel and comfort, I just wish it was longer, to quick from start to finish I felt but enjoyed.
Smolder
Lovin me some Marcus that's for sure. I wanted to know what happened to his heart, why his ex wife broke it and why he couldn't move on. I won't ruin the story by saying too much there's a lot to say...I'm just in awe of Marcus he's a hero in my book, Rayna regrets many things but most if all breaking Marcus's heart, being hurtful and leaving him so when she's back to her Nana hearts break then mend and sexy is out if this world hot...Marcus sure knows us way around Rayna, god he's sexy. Love Nana's hope and love for nth Rayna and Marcus and them bing happy. A lot going on, hot sex, fond memories, hurt, sadness and crushing grief but also love and forgiveness. A awe story...
Spark -
Talia and Dylan both have eyes for each other, Talia goes out on a limb and asks Dylan out but something is holding him back and he turns her down. I liked this story, the sex was hot as hell and a tad bit kinky and oh yeh hot as hell...lol...but just felt the end was a little bit of a let down with how Talia got Dylan to recognize he needs her. I did like the coming together of all their friends at the picnic and how the girls let loose. I love the calendar idea I wish it was a show and tell so I could see the hotness..lol sweet story.
I enjoyed each story and loved the characters and thought the author wrote a very sexy series of stories. 4 stars
A free copy of this book was provided by NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. This book contains three novellas all revolving around the volunteer firefighting unit in Lanville, Texas. Singe tells the story of Julia, a woman new to the town who gets involved with adrenaline junkie Stephen. Smolder tells how Marcus, one of the firefighters is reunited with his ex-wife, Rayna, after her grandmother ends up in hospital. Spark is about Talia and Dylan who have secretly been in love with each other for years, but Dylan won't consider a relationship due to his past. Overall, I think all three stories work well when just dealing with the romance and sex element (although all three stories exhibit a strange fixation on the size of the women's breasts). When the plot is added, all three fall a little short of the mark. The problem seems to be that although there are issues between all three couples, these issues some of which are quite serious - loss of a child, past domestic abuse - all are solved in the two pages of each novellas, often in a way that just dismisses them in favor of more sex. Don't get me wrong, the sex scenes are hot, but I kind of felt like if you were going to introduce a serious plot line into the story as well, then you need more than a couple of sentences before everything is resolved and the characters can just tumble into bed with each other again. I definitely enjoyed the last story, Spark, the best, as I thought that Talia and Dylan were the couple with the most chemistry and their story - sex on a fire engine - was hot, however, all that was somewhat ruined by how Talia decided to resolve Dylan's issues. It was stupid, annoying, not especially helpful, and, after I'd been enjoying the rest of their story, left me rolling my eyes and huffing in frustration. I ended up feeling like these should either be three sexy stories with minimal plot, or three plot-heavy stories with minimal smut. The combination of the two in these novellas just didn't work for me, which I was quite sad about. I did enjoy Spark for the most part though, as I felt it was definitely the better of the three novellas. 2 stars.
Smokin Hot is the latest book by Lynn LaFleur. It has three short stories about volunteer fireman in a small town in Texas. The stories blend together due to the men all being friends.
Singe
Julia Woods has had enough of adventure seeking men to last her a lifetime. She moved away from the last one to a small town in Texas. She enjoys the lifestyle here a lot. While staying with her mom's best friend, she meets Stephen, a volunteer fireman who does roofing as his full time job. He gives her landlord an estimate on hail damage all the while checking out Julia's curves. They start a pretty hot little fling but when she finds out that Stephen is kind of an adrenaline junkie, she bows out of their relationship. Can Stephen get her to take a chance on him despite his adventurous spirit?
Smolder
Marcus Holt still loves his wife. Even after she left and divorced him four years ago. He carries a lot of anger where she is concerned. How could she leave him when he needed her the most? Rayna Holt has never gotten over her anger toward her ex husband. She moved away, got a great job and never looked back. When her grandmother's health brings her back home, she runs into Marcus. After spending some time together, they start talking about all they lost and the emotions that come along with that.
Spark
Talia King has it bad for Dylan. Dylan has it bad for Talia. She's asked him out twice only to be rejected. Dylan wants to give Talia everything she deserves but not him. He can never be assured that he won't hurt her physically. His father looms in his memory big time. Can Talia break through before Dylan ruins their chance at happiness?
This book was okay for me. I really enjoyed the second story the best. It was sweet and a little heart wrenching. The first one was good but I never connected with the two leads totally. The third book I found boring. I know about Dylan's past but he frustrated to no end. All in all, it was just okay. Hot firemen and scorching sex scenes made it more easy to read.
Smokin Hot lives up to its title. Three short, erotic stories about sexy firemen Stephen, Marcus and Dylan that steam the sheets. I really liked the stories. They were quick reads and flowed together because they intertwine in certain parts and you see that these three characters are like family to one another. There are some edits that can be done to make the book better. There were some conversations that were jumbled into the same line and made that a little confusing to follow and maybe add a little more to the first story ending since these two were the only ones that didn't have a history before meeting, unlike Marcus and Dylan's stories but all in all, enjoyable.
Singe Julie has had it with men who love to live dangerously and moved to Lanville, Texas to escape her ex. She moves in with her mom's best friend Dolly and meets Stephen, roofer who's come to do some repair work on the house. It's instant attraction between the two and their first date ends by heating up the sheets. When she realizes that he's an adrenaline junkie, she's scared of starting a relationship with Stephen and getting hurt again. Stephen has to prove that he can love her more than he needs the rush.
Smolder This one was my personal favorite. Marcus is still in love with his ex-wife even though they've been apart for five years. When her grandmother winds up in the hospital and she returns to Lanville, she runs into Marcus and realizes that when she was running from her demons, she should've been running into the arms of the only man she's loved.
I received this book from Netgalley for an honest review.
Spark Talia's had a thing for Dylan for the last two years but he's determined to remain distant. He believes that he's not good enough to be with her. When Talia has a little too much to drink one night and makes him lose control, he finally opens up to her about why he thinks they can't be together. It's up to her to show Dylan that he's the only man hats right for her.
I gave this book 3.5 stars because it was 3 short stories, so to me it felt rushed.
All three stories are about HOT, HOT firemen and their soon to be girlfriends and/or wives.
The first story Singe was about Stephen and Julie. Stephen loves taking risks and doing daring thinks such as motorcycle racing, skydiving, jumping through windows to rescue people and Julie is new to town and so NOT into dating anyone who is into risking their lives.
The second story is about Marcus and Rayna who have been divorced for five years. Unbeknownst to Rayna, Marcus has moved to the town where her beloved Nana lives. When Nana ends up in the hospital Rayna rushes to be by her side. Of course she runs into Marcus (the love of her life) and she finally stops running from their past and lets the healing begin. I'm not going to give away any of the details, so you'll have to read it to find out for yourself.
The third story Spark is about Dylan & Talia. Talia has loved Dylan for years, yet Dylan avoids her because of some mixed up inner emotions. Let's just say alcohol, a tanker truck, and Talia wreck havoc with those emotions.
If your looking for some quick, easy, enjoyable stories with HOT sex scenes, even HOTTER firemen, some laugh out loud moments, some real frustration, and yes (for me) a few tears than look no more because you've found that book.
This was my first Lynn LaFluer book (I was given a free copy in exchange for an honest review), but it won't be my last.
4.5 Stars The stories take place in Lanville, Texas and each involve a member of the Lanville volunteer fire department.
SINGE This story is about Julia Woods, desperate to start over somewhere with a slower pace and Stephen McGettis, who took one look at Julia and she took his breath away. It's just her luck to fall for someone she thought was just like the ex she ran away from. Personally, I thought her fears were a little overboard but maybe that's what trauma does to a person. Stephen is a perfect salve for her emotional injuries.
SMOLDER The story is about Marcus Holt and Rayna Holt. They divorced because Rayna wouldn't deal with a tragedy in their lives. Seeing him for the first time in five years has her wanting to apologize for all the things she did that led to their divorce. GREAT STORY! This was emotional and so full of love and forgiveness. My heart ached for these two who were still very much in love with each other but had a very large metaphorical mountain between them.
SPARK Talia King and Dylan Westfield are both volunteer firefighters and have had an attraction for each other since day one, two years ago. She's tired of waiting and he's vowed to never be in a relationship. I'm so glad Talia has mega self-confidence because his repeated rejections would be crushing to any normal girl.
This is a great collection of stories involving some very sexy volunteer firefighters.
The title says it all SMOKING HOT!! And this read was by far one of the hottest I have ever read. Anyone that knows me knows that I have an obsession with firemen and I have always admired their bravery for putting their lives on the line to safe others.
In this book the author gives us all the wonderful build up to romance before emotions explodes into amazing blazing red hot passion.
All three stories were simply to die for. If you are not into crass words and explicit sex scenes than this book is not for you. But if you like to live a little on the wild side as they say this read will entrance you from the very first words till the very last.
Not wanting to give too much away here and rather wanting to make sure you read all three stories yourself I will say this and nothing more. If you do not go and get a copy of this book you will be missing out on a world of hot and passionate romance meets sweet and sensual romance oh and smoking hot firemen!
Three stunning short reads, perfect for an afternoon escape into passion.
Excellent work Lynn keep them coming!
5/5 star review " Where there's smoke there's fire or is that desire?"
Smokin' Hot by Lynn LaFleur is a collection of three short love stories focusing on the same group of volunteer firefighters in a rural Texas town. Overall, I found little character development, superficial emotional connections between the H/h in most of the stories, rushed stories, and the sex scenes were very mechanical and boring. I think if the author had expanded the stories, worked on the feel of the stories, had a better plot, created more lust, longing, even steamier courtship, and left some of the sex scenes to the imagination ( vs the sex scenes step by step as they were written) the book would be greatly improved. I also think if the book was reduced to just two expanded stories or one main story with one or two couples finding their path through loves maze it would have been a more enjoyable read for me. I love hot sexy reads, but the sex has to be secondary to a good plot, with characters I can love, hate or believe in, none of which I found in this book.
I received this ARC courtesy of Netgalley and the publisher in exchange for a honest review. Overall a 2.75 red for me.
** ARC provided by NetGalley for an honest review **
3 novellas in a single book about the volunteer firemen in Lanville, Texas.
Singe is the start of the book. This was the story I cared least for of the three. I wasn't feeling the chemistry. Julia moved to town looking for a change from her previous life and relationship in California. She had been a firefighter but takes a job in housekeeping at the local inn and has no interest in becoming part of the local firefighting scene in town. She meets Stephen, who she decides is too much like her ex to have a relationship with (after having hot sex with him). She's wishy washy and there just wasn't much to like about her.
Smolder is Rayna and Marcus's story. Two ex's who find their way back to each other. Sweet.
Spark is what Talia has felt for Dylan for two years until finally...
It's hard to have enough character and story development in the length of a novella to make it work well. The second and third stories just work better because the setting and characters have been introduced to the reader in the preceding stories.
Three stories in one book, in one town and in firefighting co-workers. It starts out with a woman named Julia who moves to Texas and meets Stephen. She is running away from her ex-boyfriend and their problems. She is just a wee bit skeptic when it comes to Stephen but not about what he can do in bed.
It then moves on to Stephens co-worker Marcus who is still in love with his ex-wife Rayna. She shows back up in town when her mother not only has a heart-attack but when her house also has damage cause by a fire. Rayna must work with Marcus to repair the house and their relationship.
The books final story ends with Dylan and Talia who both work at the Fire Department. They have been in love with eachother for over two years but Dylan refuses to accept it due to something in his past. Can Talia help him with his problem as well as she helped him get into bed.
This book is HOT! The love scenes are exceptional. The plots are really hickey nockey though. The author did a really good job in her writing style and layout of each separate story. The entire book was overly predictable and lagged in certain spots.
