Let the Magical Mayhem begin! Cindy Eller has not one, but two weddings to prepare for in less than two weeks when the cupcakes hit the fan-- a mysterious man has appeared claiming to be betrothed to Cindy and insisting she must marry him before her sister's nuptials can take place.
Obviously this doesn't sit well with Cindy's Ordinary boyfriend.
That's the way the cake-- and the wedding-- crumbles!
This series must be read in order. The first book is How (Not) To Play With Magic. The second book is How (Not) To Kiss A Toad. This is the third book.
I am an amazon prime member and I borrowed this book as my free book of the month and now I'm sad I did not buy it :( Every book in this series has gotten better and better and once you return it .... it's gone. I am definitely going to buy it so I can read it over and over! I wish I lived in Cindy's world :) I will definitely be buying the whole series!
***This series is suitable for mature young adult through adult readers who enjoy modern fantasy with a fractured fairytale vibe and magical mayhem with a dash of romance :)
Although this story had no grammar or punctuation errors, it was amateurishly written. It read more as a weakly written short story than anything close to a novel.
The story was filled with meaningless descriptions about baking stuff in the bakery. Remove the unnecessary clutter about the daily life in the bakery, and there was almost no story left to bother reading. Also, some of the emotional outbursts from the main character seemed childish and forced - not a natural way for that character to be behaving.
This ebook was free from Amazon, so it was worth what I paid for it, but not a complete enough story to bother trying anything else in the series. It's too bad, because the premise looked like it could have been interesting.
I am seriously disappointed that the Prince wasn't the end love interest. I am not a huge fan of Timothy. I did not read book 1, but from reviews I read I would not like him in that one either. Too many constant details on the food, although they sound yummy. I want to know about Cindy's dad and now Timothy. This was an ok read. It's more a 3.5 stars.
The title is something that makes the brain go, "Wait, What? Of course I want to kiss a prince!" Only once you get into the story, you totally understand! No, DON'T KISS HIM! I loved this book, much like I loved the first one. Elizabeth knows her characters inside and out, and seems to have a love for baking too- because if she doesn't, she SHOULD! When I read these stories, OMG I want a personal pastry chef on standby to make some of these delicious sounding treats! (In a perfect world, right?)
Anyways, we're again thrown into the world of Cindy Eller (Ha, ha, did I mention that I LOVE the character names in these books, no? Well, I do!), and the wacky, amazing, cast of people that are in her life. I love that we see a little more of her family in this one. I want to know about each of them and their cruel names!
One of the things that really struck me was how Timothy wasn't as in this one. I wanted to know what was going on with him? And that phone call from Spain, oh, hell, no. Cindy is SUPER forgiving! I understand the whole romance issue that was addressed in book one, but dude just keeps having issues with her and her way of life- kick his butt to the curb and see if another Mr. Right Now walks in. Yeah, they are a great couple, but being a good match can only last as long as both sides are willing to work on it- Timothy just freaks out. Maybe being a Toad did something to his brain! He was way more likeable as a toad, I think after reading this book.
Once again Elizabeth develops a well crafted world, with amazing characters and details character arcs. I love to see each of them change and grown in a way that feels natural.
These books make me want to open a bakery (a secret desire I've had for a long time) and live in a world of hard work and delicious results- too bad, I prefer my hard work to show through my own writing.
I totally recommend this to those that liked the first one, like kooky witches, HP Mallory's books, and things like that. It's a great series!
I enjoyed the second story of Cindy Eller, trying to bake for everyone's wedding but her own. Cindy is a likable character and in many ways her bakery treats are as much a character as Cindy herself. But the ending seemed tacked on and wrapped up way too quickly -- all the build up and then poof, it's done and everyone, almost, lives happily ever after. Almost as if there was a page limit. I also didn't really like how there was no closure for Cindy. I'm all for a book series but I really don't like it when one book becomes a giant teaser for the next book. Although I got this book for free, I'm not sure that I'd paid for the next one if it is just going to end without finishing the story. Cliffhangers may work on TV but, for me, they are not satisfying to read.
I am really enjoying this series about a witch who loves to bake using her magic. I have to say that I enjoyed this book as well if not better than the first book. This book gives us more information on Cindy and the other characters. I again could not put this book down and read it in one sitting, because I couldn't wait to see what happened. I was loved the ending, except for the cliffhanger. I can't wait to read the next book in the series to see what happens next. If you like love stories, humor, and magic you will love this book and the others in the series.
A Review copy was provided to me in exchange for a fair and honest review. The free book held no determination on my personal review.
Another fabulous read! This seriesis so much fun!! I love all the different baking things going on...not just cupcakes, but all the other pastries and cakes and the descriptions...oh so lucious! It was wonderfully fun finding out about Cindy's powers and all the possibilities for her. I kind of knew what was happening with Tansy and i just LOVE how that all worked out! But its sad she is gone. I liked Sumac too...shame she couldnt have stayed somehow..she was fun. This is such a great series and I hope that Ms Reeves will do stories on all of Cindy's sisters too so we can know all about their lives and loves!
A few weeks ago I read How Not to Kiss a Prince! Awesome book! It didn't pick right up where the other book left off exactly but the story was connected to the first one and I loved every moment of it. The characters were well thought out and the plot moved smoothly. I was able to keep up with the twists and turns without it being slow or boring.
This is the second book in the Cindy Eller series. I found this book to be as much fun as the first one, if not more. There is a lot going on in this book and the author does a great job of keeping the story line flowing through the entire story. I love the addition of new characters and scenarios that makes this book different from the first.
2.5 extra 0.5 for the cat. I feel like this book was more about the cakes and oh yeah btw here is some magic. Oh I almost forgot about the plot. Lemme just fix that. Did I talk about this cake btw?
I might read some of the other books if I have nothing better to do. Or I'm on my period and really, really want cakes. But don't have any so I'm torturing myself.
Elizabeth Reeves packs a lot of crazy into this book. A secret betrothal to a Prince, secrets about her father, the truth about Cindy's magic, and complications with her lover. I can't wait to see how the rest plays out as the series continues.
This was for me, just an okay book. The writing was good and there was no errors, but it just don't excite. I thought the characters were alright and the storyline was decent, but I couldn't get into it.
This is a cute book that's funny and a fast read. If you haven't read the first book.in the series it might be helpful to more easily follow the plot and.character development but you could read it as a stand alone story like I did. It was still easy to follow. And, as you may be able to tell crom.the title so not a spoiler, it leaves room for a third story.
You people should just read this book yourselves and write your own review on this novel yourself and I really enjoyed reading this book very much so. Shelley MA
Caution: Do not read while on diet!! The second book in this series is not quite as good as the first, but still I enjoyed it very much. It is funny and the characters are likeable.
This has potential to be a cute story, but it falls short. It skips around some with no explanation in some parts. It's completely predictable and was written on about a 5th grade reading level. I kept hoping it would get better and read it in about 3 hours...only to be disappointed.
AudioBook Review: Stars: Overall: 4 Narration: 4 Story 4
My second contact with a story in this series and it was as quirky and clever as the first! Cindy Eller is a witch who successfully can channel her magic into her baked goods: although she is still having issues with managing it in other ways. In the first book, every man that Cindy got close to turned into a toad – yes a toad. And despite that hiccup, her current boyfriend, Todd, was willing to give it a chance.
But this is all about Cindy’s discovery of her unknown betrothal to the Prince of the land in the middle – between the here and the otherworld. Aside from giving her a particularly quirky name, Cindy’s mother has been keeping several secrets from her, even binding her magic which has resulted in several mishaps, the toads being the least of them.
Again Reeves manages to present wholly unrealistic situations in a funny and relatable way with characters that you cannot help but enjoy and root for. With a new pixie-like assistant that is a former cupid to help with the baking, and a never-ending barrage of delectable treats and Cindy’s solid narrative voice, the story manages to keep you intrigued and interested. Plenty of giggles and some laugh out loud moments from the clever word play and use, this is a fun series that is suitable for YA and adult readers alike.
Narration for this book was provided by Michele Carpenter, and for her first narration I thought she did a marvelous job in defining voices and delivery styles for her characters without over-emphasizing or exaggerating their differences. While her pacing was a bit uneven early on, she did manage to find a comfortable delivery speed that enhanced the story. Her voicing for Cindy was spot on for the character, adding the proper amounts of sarcastic twinge, self-doubt and confusion when the moments called for it, and I look forward to more from her.
This is a quirky and fun series with plenty of characters to enjoy and a wonderful heroine in Cindy/ A touch of romance that stays in the very sweet and clean zone, and a story that manages to not delve into expletives, this is appropriate for adults and teens, with a nice twist to the standard witch stories.
I received an AudioBook copy of the title via AudioBook Jukebox for purpose of honest review. I was not compensated for this review: all conclusions are my own responsibility.
