This is an author after my own heart! Lots of zany characters, quality action, and exotic sequences - with a healthy dollop of satirical humour. As unflappable and ridiculous as the protagonist is, he has an endearing naiveté backed by an over-exuberant and over-inflated ego. I look forward to the next book in the series, which is already available, thank goodness!

Horror in Honduras is an action packed, hilarious cross between the Pink Panther and the Naked Gun. Damian Stockwell is a quandary, he is intelligent, but naive, he is an expert in combat but ends up bumbling his way thru each interaction. When something goes awry, he is never bothered and just continues on his quest. He is honest and noble and will do whatever it takes to thwart evil. This story was such a wonderful surprise to me and I had so much fun listening to it. The action was exciting and the word play was hilarious. Narrator, Eric Bryan Moore was brilliant. His many accents are so impressive, and his comedic timing is spot on. He drew me into the action and I was totally lost in his storytelling. I can't wait to listen to more of The Bulletproof Adventures of Damian Stockwell!

I was recommended the book by a friend but I had little idea what I was letting myself in for in terms of what the story would be about and admittedly it took me a while to settle into the story.
"Horror in Honduras" by Benjamin Wallace was not the horror story I had come to expect but was more of a tongue-in-cheek super hero tale with a supernatural twist.
The plot moved fast and was packed with action and movement. There were parts where this remained more shallow than I personally would have liked but I guess that was my false expectation coming into play. The characters and the story however are hugely entertaining and there s a lot of fun and good writing to make this a very enjoyable experience. My favourite part was the introduction of masks that can turn the wearer into a weapon.
I can see this become a very popular and commercially successful series in the future. The more I got into it the more I enjoyed it, which speaks for the effectiveness of the set up, which will pay dividends in the next instalments.

I really love this authors other works, but I only liked this book.

The main issue with this book is the main character. He is tongue in cheek-ly written. He is written with the type of smooth self confidence of a Johnny English or Inspector Clouseau. A character who is over confident and is secretly mocked behind their back, because of their incompetence. However, this is not the case. The character is basically an invincible super man.

The main character has no story ark, because he has no flaws. He knows everything already, has no room to grow, has no morals to overcome. He's.... Boring.

This is the crux of the writing the the humor that arises from this super man taking down the bad guys. Unfortunately, the main character lacks the charisma that it takes to make this fun.

The secondary characters are not fully developed and lack depth. But honestly, the story has nothing to do with them, and they are basically all background characters and so this makes sense.

The settings are fairly interesting, at times. Going from swanky clubs to jungle, and dock yards, etc. None of them are revolutionary, however, they are often integrated into the story in a meaningful way and it brings a coherence to the story that is often missing from other works.

The voice narration, by Eric Bryan Moore, is fairly well done. He does a good job at the main characters voice and does the accents for the secondary characters really well. I can't speak to his female voices because there aren't any female characters in the book.

All in all, this is a good book, but the main character lacks an ark and is not interesting enough for my liking. I get that this is the joke of the book, but it is a long story to play this joke out through. The other aspects of the book, secondary characters, settings, plot, etc are all much better written. Had the main character actually been a Inspector Clouseau type, this would have been much more enjoyable.

I look forward to see what the author does with the next book.

This was my first Benjamin Wallace's book and it's the first book in The Bulletproof Adventures of Damian Stockwell. This story is well written, action packed, intriguing and so hilarious! All the battle scenes are complex, breathtaking and entertaining. The scenery is well described, it's like we were there. Damian Stockwell and his loyal valet Bertrand (Frenchman) are totally insane together. Damian is so full of himself, it's laughable. Bertrand is a perfect secondary character and he's my favorite character! He follows Damian in his adventures with so much stoicism, courage and devotion, but maybe a little less somewhere by the end! The scene when they laughed at Bertrand's accent gives me contrary emotions because of the nastiness. However, for the most part of this story, I laughed a lot and really enjoyed my listening. Eric Bryan Moore did a stunning performance with all characters and accents. He's one of my favorite narrators. His spectacular narration really brings this story to life. Bravo! I can't wait to listen to the next book in the Series, Terror of Tesla, hopefully narrated by Eric Bryan Moore. I received this free review copy audiobook at my request and I have voluntarily left this review. I have read and listened this story.

I received this book for free. I am voluntarily leaving a review and all opinions expressed herein are my own.

Do you love Archer? If the answer is yes, then you will love this series. Damian Stockwell is mega-rich, egotistical, has no real people skills, and has a valet Bertrand [just like Archer's Woodhouse]. He is not a character you will empathize or sympathize with his plight. An example, Damien gets into a rather hairy situation and laments to himself that this was the first time that he did not "envy himself." The wit and sarcasm in this novel are fast and furious. You really have to pay attention or a zinger will get by you. In addition to the wit, it is a fast paced, action filled plot.

Damian receives a mask in a the mail which Bertrand puts on and immediately wants to kill Damian. Bertrand is no match for Damian, as Damian has trained his entire life. So, not only is someone trying to kill Damian, his good friend is missing.

I listened to this book -- the narrator, Eric Moore, is fantastic. He does different voices for the characters. He is able to create Damian Stockwell's world with his voice and it is a fun place to be for a few hours.

Where do I start? OMG, this book was hilarious! First off, the story is set in the 1940s...Damian Stockwell has been born into wealth and raised to fight for justice. He is looking into the disappearance of a friend when he receives a package..a tribal mask. When his butler/friend/sidekick tries on the mask, he attempts to kill Damian...he failed. Several other attempts are then made on Damian's life...all by mask wearing ppl. The masks seem to put the wearer into a trance and they obey only one command...kill Damian Stockwell. But Damian is not so easily killed...Follow Damian as he travels to Honduras to unearth the mystery of the mask, find his friend and put a stop to whomever is trying to kill him. The story will have you dying with laughter, spitting out your drink, etc. It's reminiscent of 'Get Smart'/'Inspector Gadget'/'Pink Panther'...you just have to read it! Fantastic narration! 'Zippy'...
I received a complimentary copy of this book in exchange for an unbiased review.

Starting a book and have no idea what you are getting yourself into can be daunting. When this book by Benjamin Wallace was recommended to me, that was the case. This Austin Powersesque story had me captured and entranced from the first scene! Damien Stockwell is a caricature of James Bond, with his strength, stamina and cunning ability to get out of the stickiest of situations. His sidekick Bertrand stole the show though. Much like Sherlock Holme's Watson, Bertrand keeps things real. The descriptions of battle along with the witty banter that Wallace infuses through the story will keep you entertained and laughing through the entire book. I can't wait to see what the indestructible Stockwell will find himself into next!

This book is filled with many characters, some with accents, others with gruff personalities. Eric Bryan Moore nails each and every one of these. He brings individuality to each person, and his ability to inflect fear, horror, and humor is incredible. The performance showcases his talent as a narrator and should not be missed.

Pink Panther meet Damian Stockwell. I really had no idea what to expect from this book. It's listed as a satire, but I wasn't sure of what it was a satire of. This was action packed, funny entertainment. Damian and his side kick Bertrand take you on a fast paced adventure to save a friend in peril. The laughs start almost immediately. Damian is so full of himself and so self absorbed it lends itself to endless humor with his interactions with those around them. This was my first introduction to Benjamin Wallace and what a fun introduction it was. The narration is just outstanding. I'm not new to Eric Bryan Moore's narrations. I'll listen to pretty much anything he narrates. He never disappoints. However, this one is up there with my favorites. The off, dry humor was delivered perfectly. The accents, the characterizations, everything done so well. I don't need any "thinky time" to know I sure hope there's more!

AUDIOBOOK edition

When my friend recommended it, I was not sure what to expect with that title, but seeing that Mr. Moore narrated it, I had to have it. I think he outdid himself with this story, the passion, the humour laced voices, the various accents... loved Bertrand's !!! - 5 stars

Mr. Wallace created a great story, where we follow Damian and his valet, Bertrand in their quest to save his friend. Their interaction is hilarious at times, got some interesting looks at the store, but could not help but LOL at their antics. Damian is over the top and clueless at times, poor Bertrand has to put up with it, having to rescue his employer, it is comical and having me shaking my head at times. There is action and suspense mixed in too making it a great listen. Looking forward to the next one. - 5 stars

Great story! The main character is a bit difficult to like since he's kind of a dick. He has an arrogance about him where he believes himself superior to all... And in some ways he kind of is. But, he talks down to people like a scolding father and expects a LOT from the people around him.
The story is wonderful; a mixture of Indiana Jones and Scooby Doo, with a smidgen of Sherlock Holmes. It's a classic adventure with a mystery to be solved and a lot of action. Fighting can be difficult to write, but Benjamin Wallace writes it well. I keep thinking that every time I read one of his books.

Not my favorite

As much as I loved the Nomadic Warrior series, I hated this book just as much. The protagonist isn't likeable, the plot is super predictable and there really isn't a whole lot of story. Skip this one and stick with the Librarian and the Nomadic Warrior Duck and Cover books.

These books might not necessarily been up my alley. I feel like the time period might be interesting enough, but one of the big things that bugged me, was the fact that Damian treated Bertrand like a servant, even though he might of held that title, it still felt a little jarring. I also wasn't a huge fan of the narrator either, but that is just my own personal preference.

Excellent!

What a good "clin d'oeil" to those ancient naïve stories of the golden age of adventure books! But with a funny twist.

Quite a lot of action, with a minimum on violence. The hero actually tried to fight his adversaries without causing extensive damage to them. Of course he did have honorable reasons for this. It was a fast read and pretty good at that. Kind of quirky in a good way, fairly clean story too. I could read more of these if given opportunity.

Damian Stockwell is one of the richest men alive that also happens to be one of the most formidable minds and bodies in existence and one of his friends is in trouble; but before he can even make a plan to help, someone tries to kill him, using something that perplexes even Damian's genius mind. All he knows is that the strange device is the key to finding his missing friend and Damian will stop at nothing to help a friend in need.

I wasn't sure what to expect when I first picked up Horror in Honduras, but I was expecting humor as I have read other things by Benjamin Wallace and he never fails to deliver a laugh. And a laugh I got. Benjamin Wallace did not fail in delivering his usual humor and did a great job of bringing Damian Stockwell, the over the top, super genius to life.

I am a big fan of action and adventure in both my movies and books, these type of books are so easy to get lost in, as you imagine yourself as being one of the heroes in the tale. Though I am no super genius and no master fighter, I couldn't help but imagine myself in the tale of Damian Stockwell. Who wouldn't love to be a kick butt genius? I know I would.

Damian is one of those characters that despite being one of the richest men alive, a genius and force to be reckoned with, manages to stay a down-to-earth gentleman who is also a loyal and dedicated friend. In Horror in Honduras, Damian is fighting to save a friend who has gone missing in Central America, and he will put every resource he has attempting to save his life. Of course he get's the shock of a lifetime once he finds his friend and is forced to see things a little differently (I would tell you what that is, but then I would just give things away, and that wouldn't be fair). As you follow Damian in his adventure you also get to meet his loyal valet and sidekick Bertrand.

These two characters have a wonderful and natural relationship with each other, often times reminding me of brothers. They banter back and forth and the two of them are often found in the center of a great tale, fight, or humorous conversation.

There were times when I felt that the story was a little too over the top, but every time those thoughts crept into my mind Damian went into kick butt mode and my over the top thoughts fluttered away on wings of a bird. At first things seemed almost unbelievable, but as the tale unfolded I discovered as did Damian, that there was more to the story than met the eye. Damian is a bigger than life character, with bigger than life attributes, it is amazing that Benjamin Wallace managed to keep him contained in the book!

Horror in Honduras was a fun adventure that sweeps you away and delivers you to a world where anything is possible, especially if you are Damian Stockwell. If you are looking for that next great adventure tale or are a fan of Dirk Pitt, than you should definitely pick up Horror in Honduras and venture through the world of Damian Stockwell!

About an hour in I had a pretty good visual in my head of Damian Stockwell. If you are familiar with the cartoon The Tick, then you get the body type and way of talking. Take him out of his blue costume and dress him like Indian Jones and you pretty much get my visual.

Damian Stockwell is as American as Apple Pie. He's almost as beloved too. If I had to think of an individual as beloved, it would probably be Betty White. Don't mistake that as saying Stockwell is frail though, his description seems to indicate that he would make Duane "The Rock" Johnson look like a little person.

Damian could do it all alone, but what fun would that be? Damian employs the services of a loyal friend, a Frenchman named Bertrand. His fighting skills are second only to Damian, though his patience is unrivaled. At least halfway through the book, you'll ask yourself how Bertrand can take Damian's frequent barbs. It's clear they are very good friends.

This book is a wild romp around the globe and is all kinds of exciting. Lots of action. Lots of adventure. Lots of good fun. I can highly-recommend Horror in Honduras to fans of the genre.

This is part of three books, been given away by the author. I picked them up through a face book advert, and I am so glad I did. The other two are Post-Apocalyptic Nomadic Warriors and a short story called DAD vs Democracy.

This is such a 1940's book. It's a pastiche of all the Men of Science/ Adventurers/ Doc Savage style book. It centres around Damian Stockwell. Rich, built like a brick outhouse, genius level intelligence, expert fighter, and as American as apple pie.

Damian is one of those guys who would drop anything for a friend in need, and when he is summoned to Honduras by his emergency alarm watch, he's drawn into a world of possessed masks, old Gods and unspeakable horrors. He's accompanied through all this by his loyal valet, sidekick, and savate expert, the very French, Bertrand

The entire book is just tremendous fun, while it doesn't have many laugh out loud moments, there are a lot of bits that should put a smile on your face. Bertrand alone is worth the price of admission.

On his many adventures around the world, he had studied with the great masters of several exotic martial arts. Over the years he had selected the finest techniques and incorporated them into his own martial art—Damitsu. Proven in countless fights, he had never doubted the system. But, now he knew it would take all of his skill and strength to defeat his friend without killing him. It would not be easy or painless. For the first time that he could remember, he did not envy himself.

Damian Stockwell is a man's man. A cultured and wealthy adventurer, somewhere between Indiana Jones and James Bond, but set firmly inside a Monty Python plot.

As you read, it is not hard to hear a John Clease level of comic over-earnestness in his drive for justice. A very, very funny book.

Simply awesome.

Getting the guns right is important. Proper description of firearms is something I strive for in my own writing. Messing up the guns will turn me off of a book or movie quicker than anything. Benjamin Wallace gets not only the guns, but all the machines of the era correct (except for an unfortunate mix-up of "clip" versus "magazine"). Next to firearms accuracy, I appreciate his humor and well-written fight-scenes. No one writes a fight scene like Wallace. He paces his action so that you'll want to press on with the next chapter, but will be able to set the book aside to make a sandwich if need be. Overall, Horror in Honduras is a fun escape into another era, when men could be manly without apology.

A complete let-down! I adore several of Benjamin Wallace's other books: Post-Apocalyptic Nomadic Warriors and Tortugas Rising, but this book was painful to slog through. The main character isn't at all likable (and not in a funny way, but in a "someone please kill him off now" way). Wallace's beloved-tone shines through, but not enough to save this from the realm of torture. And I see there is already a second, which is doubly disappointing in that he has turned this and not one of his much better books into a series.

This is the first book in the series "The Bulletproof Adventures of Damian Stockwell". It's a fast-paced adventure story with an endearing protagonist and lots of funny moments.

Quite honestly, every page has some action happening. One thing right after another right up to the very end. The kind of action you'd find yourself rolling your eyes at if you were watching an Indiana Jones movie. But that's what makes this book so much fun.

Damian Stockwell is a heroes hero. Straight out of the pulp novels of yesteryear with a splash of 21st century sarcasm. Lightening action and Wallace's trademark humor make this a blast to read.
