I love demons and imps and the Lucifer mythology. Having written my fair share of characters from the dark side – Early, my exorcist character, has a love of the dark side – I was intrigued by A. V. Griffin’s concept of a demon guardian in charge of the fate of the Earth.

Like Lucifer from Fox’s TV series of the same name, Rolmer becomes human to explore a plain of existence unfamiliar to him.

As a freshman attempt, this book is a nice start to a promising career. She already knows how to write free-flowing dialog between characters. I hope to see more from Griffin, as the author hones her craft.

This book is filled with a world of great creativity. The concepts behind the demon world are fascinating- the way they operate and exist, telepathy as communication, and physical properties are very interesting once you understand it. I did find myself not connecting with the main characters and plot, but this read is clean and entertaining and could be enjoyed by any age group. * I received this book from the author in exchange for an honest review*

This book was a quick read. There were some interesting parts and the overall concept and story line are intriguing. There isn’t much depth, but for the length of the book the author did fairly well.

A novella in which demons rule the world and have the right to obliterate planets that aren't of worthy resources.  The Demon, Rolmar, is set to destroy Earth, claiming it will be an easy destruction because of the way humanity exists on Earth.  He decides to visit the planet and he appears to certain people in various forms.  He causes some destruction while he's on the planet, along with some other surprises.  However, Rolmar's mission to destroy Earth becomes conflicted when 2 kids question his reasoning for its annihilation.  Along with the 2 kids, a woman named Linda is having a hard time understanding Rolmar's true intentions on Earth after she befriends his child-like persona.  Earth's survival rests upon a handful of people that don't even know each other, but have a common enemy - The Demon Rolmar!

I wasn’t sure what to think when I started reading The Demon Rolmar; I’m not generally a fan of novellas or short stories but since I loved fantasy so much as a kid I was willing to give this one a shot. Fun and entertaining I really enjoyed the fantasy and science fiction elements and the story was entertaining without being too out there or hard to understand. Griffin had the perfect balance of fantasy and reality, one thing I always love to see in fantasy novels.

I really enjoyed the amount of creativity Griffin put into The Demon Rolmar. With demon rituals, different planets, shape shifting, and numerous other fun quirks this novel was full of everything that makes science fiction and fantasy fun to read. I could tell that Griffin really loved these genres and her passion showed through her writing, making parts of the novel, such as the carnival scene, so much fun to read.

There were a few parts of this novel I did have a little trouble understanding, such as the part with the children Hilary and Nat. I didn’t see what their point was in the story and I didn’t know why Rolmar found them. However, these few scenes didn’t take away from the overall feel of the story even though they didn’t make much sense. Despite it all The Demon of Rolmar was still a fun novel and I really enjoyed watching the events unfold and seeing what the characters would do next.

Even though Rolmar was a fairly developed character I felt like some of the other main characters, like Adam and Linda, were lacking enough personality to make them really feel real and I really would have loved to see more character development. Throughout the novel I felt like I hardly knew who the characters were and that I was a stranger watching them from a distance. Novellas are always hard ones for character development because of the length and Griffin did a very good job developing Rolmar, I just wish all the characters had been as developed as him.

In the end pre-teen and young adult fans of fantasy will no doubt love this novel and older readers may be a little frustrated by the lack of character development or the confusing events. Griffin did a great job for a first novel and I can see the potential in her to do great things in coming books!

The book for review is “The Demon Rolmar” by A.V. Griffin. The genre is science fiction and fantasy.

Enter our main character, Rolmar, an overlord demon from Pentar. His job , along with two other demons, is to destroy planets. The ones marked are the ones that show little potential or promise. Once the planets have been chosen each overlord visits the land to see if it is at all redeemable or not.

He is a powerful demon who can materialize things he wants and destroys what he doesn’t. He is an imposing one that towers over the others. He can’t be bothered to be with his own kind as he retreats to the comfort of his dwelling. He enjoys his task of removing the world of imperfections of other regions. He lives for it.

Rolmar planet is Earth. Descending he comes across a variety of humans, some that prove cause they should be destroyed. Disguising as a human in various forms his body starts to be filled with emotions. Once he never had before and does not totally understand. And this stems from his interaction of humans who touch his inner soul, or his version of it. He prepares to save certain ones from annihilation for they have proven to be savable. But how about the entire world must it be destroyed?

I loved the plots that were developed inside of it. However I wish the book had been a tad linger. For while the plots were nice they at times left you wanting more which could have been accomplished in a longer piece of work. The dialogue of the children I did not believe to be plausible considering the ages they were. I liked the ending but again it would have worked better if the piece had been longer instead of just wrapping it up quickly.

Now that I have said that, I did enjoy the read and see potential if the author wants to expand on this. You can’t go wrong for a quick read.

I received a request from the author to read this story and I have to say that The Demon Rolmar by A.V. Griffin was such a fun read. It was not at all what I expected from the description when I sat down to read it.

Now you may be thinking that me saying that means the description doesn’t really give a good idea of the story and yet it does. It does not, however, prepare you for a story that doesn’t take itself too seriously and is great fun to read. It was clever, fun, well executed and I really enjoyed watching the demon’s character progress through the story. The writing was tight and I didn’t notice any of the copy editing errors you see in a lot of independent work.

I liked the care taken to show us the demon’s home world Pentar as well as some of the nifty tricks employed by the Pentarians and took it into the realm of science fiction rather than just a fantasy story. I don’t want to give away too much, because some of what was so enjoyable are the unexpected mischievous things and I really don’t want to spoil those. I will say it made me chuckle on more than one occasion.

This isn’t a very long story (I read it in an evening), but the characters were vivid, it was a good story overall and I really liked it. I think the end wrapped up a little too neatly, but I wasn’t necessarily disappointed in the ending either. So there you have it. If you enjoy a little science fiction with your fantasy and want a chance to chuckle a few times along the way this might be just the story for you.

In A.V. Griffin's debut novella the high demons of Pentar have met and determined that those planets which display less advanced societies than their own should be exterminated. The people of Earth are forced to prove why their planet should be spared. During his visit to Earth, high demon Rolmar has several human encounters. Unexpectedly, he begins to experience feelings that leave him doubting his decision to destroy the planet.

The storyline is well thought out and very creative. The dialogue at the beginning was a little short and awkward, but as the story progressed, the conversations seemed to flow easier. I also didn't find myself invested in the characters until Rolmar started to interact with the humans. Once that happened, the story became more believable and I felt more connected.

Overall this is a good read with an interesting story that has a tendency to raise questions about whether other species really would find our planet worth saving.

I was given an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

I wasn't too sure what to expect as I started reading this book, but I have to say now that I've finished I appreciate the moral story that goes along with it.

Aside from Rolmar - a higher demon - I'd say Adam is the main character since a lot of what happens is revolved around him.

Rolmar's there to decide the fate of the earth and all thing on it. When we're in the opening chapters he's a heartless demon who thrives on destruction but as we progress through the novella he develops emotions and he changes.

When reading this we get to see a few different stories containing different situations; two orphans, a woman who no longer loves the man she married, a normal student. We realise life is something we only come to value when its threatened to be taken awayaway. That's the main reason I like this story it makes you stop and think for a minute...

The Demon Rolmar is filled with spectacular creativity. The concepts behind the demon world are fascinating- the way they operate, sources of communication and physical properties reminded me of High Fantasy Harry Potter snippets. I did find myself needing more connectivity with the main characters and plot, but this read is clean and entertaining and could be enjoyed by any age group. My pre-teen son loved the characters and story line. If you're looking for fresh new fantasy concepts, you'll find them in this book!

Loved it! This very creative and interesting depiction of an alien visiting the Earth really spoke volumes to me. How would an alien view our world? This novella explores that and tells a great story in the process. I gave it 5 stars because I would definitely read it again and I hope to see more from this author.

This book was fascinating and great. The Author really captivates the reader by depicting a unique perspective on the Earth. Are we worth leaving alone to grow and develop, or should we simply be eradicated by a master alien-race that oversees all? Find out by reading this novella!
