A Myriad of Relationships Explored Through Poetry

The excellent cover image of this book of poetry, ME, by Tina Marie Lees, with the “ME” shown reflecting as “WE,” tells exactly what these poems are about: the interconnectedness/disconnectedness of all of us in our multitude of complex relationships - the joys, the heartbreaks, the unexplained and the misunderstood, the rewards and repercussions in every form. Lees explores the many roles we play, our desires, the things we want from others, and the many demands we make.

Almost any reader can find many of his or her own experiences shared and illuminated in this astute, very personal journal of poems. Lees' phrases, some familiar, many sharply unique and cutting straight to the heart, draw the reader into the mysterious ties between friends, lovers, family, and acquaintances. I believe these poems will help many readers understand and articulate their own lives.

Lees writes in a style that flows easily and establishes a rhythm that seems to speak directly to the reader, to scold or admonish at times, to soothe and encourage at other times, even to sing and enchant. Her words can be pleasant and charming but also sharply honest and unflinching. She covers the full gamut of human emotions.

Since I prefer free verse, the use of end-of-line rhyme schemes by Lees stumped me a bit at first, but her insights and willingness to be totally honest overcame that. Nevertheless, I believe if she could relax the end-of-line rhyme, she could become a very fine poet.

Even readers who don't usually enjoy poetry should be able to appreciate this poetic memoir. If you like romance, drama, or the entanglements of a good play, book, of movie, you will be able to find something here that interests you. I'm compelled to give ME a 5-star review with a good recommendation to any reader.

This book of poems will stir all your senses. It shows the sensitivity of Ms. Lee and her longing for true love. Each poem seems like it has something to do with some stage of her relationships. She loves, she hurts but she never hates. There is an undertone of sorrow in some as she is in a relationship expecting that day to come when she will be in tears and the love and lust would be gone from him. There are poems where it is quite evident she is doing everything she can to keep her relationship going. There is pain underneath many. There is happiness with some. There is an entire range of human emotions. By the end I felt as if I knew her. I realized that not only was she talking about love and relations. She was actually talking about her own survival and trying to hold on with everything she got. She has a beautiful way of putting the words together. In many cases the poetry reads almost like lyrics to a song. If you love poetry, then I highly recommend this book of poems. Once you read me, you'll know her.

This is an amazing collection heart melting poetry. Miss Lee wields sonnet like an artist’s paintbrush while pulling your heart and soul every which way on a delicious emotional roller coaster. Every poem is a genuine tug on the heart strings. This gallery painted with word and rhyme contains a masterpiece on every page!
