Judd Winick is an American cartoonist, comic book writer, screenwriter, and former reality television personality known for his diverse contributions to storytelling across multiple media. He first entered the public eye in 1994 as a cast member on The Real World: San Francisco, where he formed a close friendship with AIDS educator Pedro Zamora, an experience that deeply influenced his later work. Winick memorialized their bond in Pedro and Me, a critically acclaimed autobiographical graphic novel that earned several literary awards and became a staple in school curricula.

Winick's career in comics took off with The Adventures of Barry Ween, Boy Genius and continued with major runs at DC Comics, including Green Lantern, Green Arrow, and Batman. His stories often explored socially relevant themes, such as HIV, homophobia, and identity. He was recognized for introducing gay characters and tackling difficult subjects with empathy and clarity. His work on Batman notably included resurrecting the character Jason Todd as the Red Hood, a storyline later adapted into the animated film Batman: Under the Red Hood, for which Winick wrote the screenplay.

Beyond comics, he created The Life and Times of Juniper Lee for Cartoon Network and served as head writer for Hulu's The Awesomes. In 2015, he launched the Hilo series, an all-ages sci-fi adventure inspired by his own children. The bestselling series has been widely praised and is expected to reach its eleventh volume in 2025.

Winick lives in San Francisco with his wife, Pam Ling, also a Real World alum, and their two children. He continues to create heartfelt and imaginative stories for audiences of all ages.

A bit of a patchy volume with the team separated for most of the book (not that's necessarily a bad thing; it allows for different types of story) and a different artist every issue (definitely a bad thing). Not awful, by any stretch of the imagination, but definitely not the book at its best.

In this volume we have the Avengers as vampires, then the Exiles get separated during a teleport and end up in different realities where time passes different for each one. One story features Morph and Sasquatch meeting a Weapon X era Wolverine in Canada, hence the cove art. Then they all get back together in time to help out with the formation of the Fantastic Four, but then the Brood spoil the party. There's a dramatic end to this volume as well.

Overall I really like this series.

Fantastic Voyage places the Exiles in conflict with Logan, a team of vampire Avengers, and a villainous Ben Grimm that builds out from consequences of earlier adventures with a tragic finale.

Buckle up buttercup we're here for another Exiles ride.

Sooo right.

I enjoyed the first (let me see) 35 and half issues in this book. I was kinda digging the realities (Vampire Avenger Reality, everyone is unstuck in different realities, Fantastic Four first flight reality). It was great to learn more about Sasquatch, great (if heartbreaking) to see Mary Jane/Spider-girl again (the one from Vi-lock world, that Mariko was flirty with) and hey bonus Illyana was...tolerable.

But then the last couple of pages of 35 happened. And then all of 36.

I'm getting tired of team members dying. Especially when, big surprise, they just had a happy moment.

Also really tired of Calvin being like 'secrets be secrets I keep'. Morph ain't wrong, he was a coward.

Everything but the VERY LAST PAGE of 36 can go die in a fire.

Continuing the great (and it actually has been great for quite a few volumes) x-read of 2017…

Judd Winick is back! I can’t begin to tell you how excited that I was to see his name on the title page. There are few comics writers out there who can write both the tender personal moments and the massive slugfest with panache but Winick is one of them and he knows this team inside and out. I am so glad to have him back, at least for a volume or two.

It’s another good story (perhaps not the best of Winick’s Exiles volumes but still strong) with some touching parts (Sunfire’s respite with Mary in particular) and some decent action.

Still one of the more fun x-books from the time with a few great surprises along the way.

Winick completely understands these characters and the audience reading the books. Over the span of this volume you get some adventure, some romance, character building, and nostalgia. None of it feels forced or cheesy and all of it feels genuine.

And boy! He leaves the series in a heck of a place.

4/5 stars.

Now this was absolutely fantastic (pun only partially intended). I don't have much to say other than that. There was a lot of emotion that was all believable and also a lot of fun. The only real issues I have are with the pacing sometimes feeling a bit inconsistent and the overall story feeling like it's not REALLY progressing despite being 37 issues in.

I'm now caught up to where I was in this series when I was a teenager! Captain America is a vampire! Sasquatch is put in front of a freed Weapon X! In this volume, someone dies!

I really enjoyed the storyline for this one. The vampire storyline was interesting and Calvin's story. I really thought they were going to kill him off. So sad it was sunfire instead.

This story was good
I liked the back story of Sasquatch.
It wasn't as good in my opinion but that's because I prefer the stories when the team are all together

After the frustrating interruption of the title by Chuck Austen, Judd Winnick returns to right the ship before leaving the title.

This is perhaps the best collection of The Exiles run. While the vampire Avengers aren't my favorite timeline, it sets in motion a chain of events that results in the team hitting major points in the universe, suffering more death, having to make or not make more devestating decisions, and reinforcing the fact that The Timebroker is probably not what he seemed at the beginning of the run. The dialogue is sometimes a tad too quippy for me, but after the thudding failure of Austen's dialogue, I'll take it.

Hooray! Judd Winick is back on the job! The art is a little uneven, thanks due to four artists drawing different issues, but it's pretty good art. I wish it was all Clayton Henry, but you can't have everything. I'm just glad the writing is back to good.
This is one of my favorite volumes in the series. A lot of fun moments and a great read.

Judd Winick returns to give his team some much-needed great writing. After a battle with vampire Avengers, the group is split by a spell. The little stand-alone tales are great reminders of this book's personality, leading to an epic battle with Mimic and the new Fantastic Four and the loss of a member. Yet the appearance of a familiar face thought lost is the best surprise of all!

The Exiles get split up, and then meet the Fantastic Four. Some very good character moments. I like the way that you never know who is safe in this book and who could die or leave.

The exiles series has a lot of incredible characters. This is a cross-dimension team of travelers so some characters will seem familiar while others will be very different from what regular Marvel readers have come to know over the years. It makes me wish I knew more about the history of the various Marvel universes they visit though.
