Whitechapel Mary

Rate this book
Suddenly and tragically orphaned, Mary Dean must find an extra source of income if she and her young brother are to escape the workhouse. The matchbox factory where she works pays poorly and she is desperate. Tempted by the lure of the House of Assignation, Mary accepts an invitation to become a courtesan in the exclusive establishment. Her very first client, Sir Walter, is entranced by her beauty and innocence; he insists that she be his alone. But another threat lurks. Mary's neighbour, a midwife, is righteous in her hatred of prostitution, and holds the key to a menacing secret - the identity of the terrifying Whitechapel murderer, Jack the Ripper. Mary has no idea of the peril she has placed herself in or the intentions of those around her. Who can she trust - if anyone?

Interesting possibility for a Jack The Ripper killer. Good book, nice story, all fiction. I enjoyed it, reread this book a few times as it is a good book.

Not too bad, but could be better. I enjoyed it, but found it a bit unbelieavable and disappointing at times. It still kept me reading, because I am a Londoner and recognised many of the places in the book. It was also intriguing, because it has a lot to do with Jack the Ripper and the author had some interesting ideas about this case, which I also find very interesting. Not sure if I would want to read another book from this author. Maybe I should, because maybe it's unfair to judge an author on one book.

Started out well but slowly disappointed me.
I found it interesting that the author introduced Jack the Ripper, and was hoping for a twist of events with detectives trying to catch the assailant, but this didn't happen.
