Sally Worboyes was born and grew up in Stepney with four brothers and a sister, and she brings some of the raw history of her own family background to her East End sagas. She now lives in Norfolk with her husband, with whom she has three grown-up children. She has written several plays which have been broadcast on Anglia Television and Radio Four. She also adapted her own play and novel, WILD HOPS, as a musical, The Hop Pickers.
I really expected to like this - I normally like these sort of books, even if it's just for a bit of easy reading. But, I just really didn't click with it. I didn't think the writing was particularly good, and thought the storyline was just incredibly dragged out. I actually ended up looking for reviews to tell me what had happened so I could bail on it!
2.5/5. The story centres around a third character perspective which is confusing and draggy from the initial starts. Once, you are comfortable with the author writing it was a simple and easy read.
