I loved this book, just like the last one, but I honestly thought there just wasn’t enough Floods. It was mainly about other children, with the floods appearing every once in a while. Other than that, this was a great book, and I recommend it to anyone who liked the first book.

This is the second book in the Floods family series, a family that is made up of almost sinister but also quite quirky characters, or as others have remarked, very Adams-family-like.
I really quite enjoyed the first book in the series ("The Floods Neighbours"), so I had fairly high expectations for this one. And... I wasn't disappointed; in fact, I enjoyed this one even better than the first. There are so many dark but hilarious lines in it, I really wish I had taken the time and trouble to write them down when encountered. You actually have to read these books/listen to them quite closely, otherwise you miss all the hilarious bits!
Everything in "The Floods Playschool" is strangely reminiscent of some other wizard series (aka Harry Potter) but it's done very nicely and in a hilarious way, e.g. there's a wizard "who must not be talked about"... if you see what I mean. The plot is set at Quicklime, the wizard school that the Flood children attend. Orkward Warlock, a fellow student, hates the overachieving and always popular Floods and devises a sinister plot to rid the world of them. The quirkiness of it all is really quite brilliant! Not sure about it being a children's book though... mwhuahahaha...

Ever wondered what it's like to go to school if you're a witch or wizard? It's certainly not like anything else you've read. From Invisibility class to playing gristleball (so painful that its sports field is far enough away from the school so you don't need to hear the screams), Quicklime College has everything a young witch or wizard needs, whether you're a human, dog or something else.
By far the most important day at Quicklime College is Sports Day, where all your undead relatives can come to watch four-legged creatures compete in a three-legged race. That is, unless you're Orkward Warlock, the most revolting, hateful boy in the whole school. He hates everything about everything, and he hates the Floods most of all. With nothing but revenge on his mind, he plans to get rid of the Floods once and for all -- on Sports Day.

One of my favourite things about The Floods series is that each title is an Australian show. There are also all the little Australianisms within the stories themselves. For someone born in England, Thompson shows his patriotism for his chosen home well.
I do enjoy a magical school setting, even if I wouldn't want to attend Quicklime College; and, controversial opinion it might be, but I do feel bad for Orkward...to a certain extent. Then I think about how The Toad and Howard Tiny get treated, and I feel worse for them.

A fun book that whilst had the floods in was far more about the school and Warlock. I enjoyed it but nowhere near as much as the first book. It was very cool seeing a wizardry school where all the pupils don’t look the same and there are some far more interesting classes. Well put together if a little mixed as to where the book was going and aiming for.

Although it’s aimed at kids, there is soooo much innuendo that makes it hilarious for grown-ups too. Highly amusing, a bit like the Addams Family.

Setelah berkenalan dengan Keluarga Flood di buku pertama. Sekarang saatnya untuk mengetahui sekolah sihir di mana kelima anak Keluarga Flood, Satanella, Merlinmary, Wincflat, Morbit dan Silent, belajar. Valla sebagai anak tertua telah menyelesaikan masa pendidikannya dan sekarang berprofesi sebagai Manajer Bank Darah. Sedangkan yang lain,kecuali Betty, menghabiskan hari – hari mereka di Quiclime College. Betty sendiri belajar di sekolah biasa.
Quicklime College, jangan pernah membandingkan dengan Hogwarts. Walau sama – sama sekolah sihir namun keduanya sangat jauh berbeda. Dari masalah pelajaran, guru bahkan sampai turnamen olahraga yang diadakan. Bahkan murid – murid di sana tidak perlu menghabiskan waktu untuk belajar bagaimana menaiki sapu terbang. Satu yang pasti, Quicklime jauh lebih gelap dan mengerikan.
Sekolah yang terletak di sebuah lembah dan tinggi di atas patagonia ternyata tak pernah ada dalam peta manapun. Sehingga manusia biasa tidak akan pernah menemukan keberadaan para penyihir. Dengan menara- menara runcing dan 365 gargles “indah” pda bagian puncaknya membuat sekolah sihir ini terlihat sangat megah.
Tidak seperti sekolah biasa yang memiliki banyak murid dengan kecenderungan bolos, hanya sedikit murid Quicklime yang ingin melakukan hal tidak terpuji tersebut. bahkan jika mereka sakit, mereka lebh suka berdiam diri di Unit Kesehatan Sekolah daripada pulang ke rumah.
Keistimewaan lain dari sekolah sihir ini juga terdapat pada bus sekolahnya. Bukan kendaraan roda empat atau kereta api. Tapi naga ang dilengkapi dengan tempat duduk dan toilet. Kemampuan terbangnya luar biasa. Dapat dipastikan tidak akan terjadi keonaran. Karena Winchflat sebagai ketua dewan siswa Quicklime dengan mudah mencopot ataupun mengubah bentuk kepala setiap anak yang berani berbuat onar.
Pelajaran sihir di Quicklime sama anehnya dengan para pengajarnya. Menghilangkan Diri yang diberikan oleh guru dengan kebiasaan menghilang tanpa ada pemberitahuan dan selalu muncul tiba - tiba, ada pelajaran Keturunan Istimewa untuk Satanela, Teknik Rekayasa Genetika yang menjadi pelajaran favorit Winchflat. Ada pula Pelajaran Ekonomi dan Bentuk – Bentuk Lain Perampokan, yang menjadikan si kembar sebagai bintang kelas. Merlinmary sendiri sangat menyukai pelajaran Elokusi dan Melolong. Anak – anak Flood memang memiliki keistimewaan masing – masing. Sebenarnya masih banyak lagi pelajaran lainnya. namun lebih baik membacanya sendiri.
Semua itu membuat salah satu murid Quicklime yang juga anak terjahat menjadi sangat iri. Kebencian Orkward Warlock kepada keluarga Flood sangat besar. Sehingga suatu hari, munculah rencana untuk membunuh seluruh keluarga Flood di Hari Olahraga.
Ilustrasi di buku kedua Keluarga Flood kali ini tidak kalah anehnya dengan sebelumnya. Cerita yang penuh dengan kekuatan sihir ini juga masih mengerikan seperti cerita di buku pertama. this book is the first book that i read about this wicked family.
then,i instanly in love.for u who like tim burton,then u should read this book.
this book told about the school in transylvania waters where all floods'children, except betty, attend to.
and there was this wicked boy,he was really ugly event his parents sent him away,since they cant stand his look!!Cant u believe that?hahahha...
then,since the floods is a really happy family,n all of their children are smart and popular,he envy them till he can fell it in his bone.
in a sport day festival,he plan to destroy them...but,being the heroes,they'll survive of course.

Perhitungan bintangnya adalah perbandingan dengan buku pertamanya.
Buku ini sedikit lebih baik dari buku 1-nya. Sekali ini ceritanya tentang kejadian di sekolah sihir tempat anak-anak keluarga Flood bersekolah. Karakter-karakter guru-gurunya menarik. Mata pelajarannya aneh-aneh. Sayang anak-anak keluarga Flood terlalu sempurna, terlalu pintar, selalu top of the class. Sampai-sampai seorang teman sekelas mereka iri dan bermaksud membunuh anak-anak keluarga Flood. Ya, buku 2 ini masih brutal, tapi tidak menjijikkan.

More irreverence, surprising reversals and sometimes sweetness in a family so creepy they make the Addams family seem overly idealised and cuddly by comparison (but along those lines). Puns, wordplays and general silliness. I do have a soft spot for this book because years ago it kept my children quiet in the car (apart from a few sniggers of appreciation). There's not much to it, but it is all in fun!
