Unity Undercover
In the fourth installment of Jo’s return to Brawley, a neighboring coven requests aid from Beckett and his people. Will they be able to find the user of illegal magic, or will they get sucked into the ploy of a witch with mind-control abilities beyond anything they’ve ever seen.

Well, I don’t really know Beckett’s middle name. I doubt anyone does, what with his insane paranoia.
But you know me, when adventure comes a’knockin’ – as it never fails to do – I’m ready to get rockin’.
Even if that adventure has a creep factor of ten, and eyes that wouldn’t even recognize my face with how often they’re focused south of my chin.
I don’t know a single person that would say I’m made for undercover work. But if I want to find the brainwasher and keep an entire coven safe, I’ll need to make subtlety my… female dog. Because no one else can do this job. Not even my irritatingly handsome cat-eleven.

Unity Undercover is book four in the Bringing Home the Chaos Series, and while it doesn’t end on a cliffhanger, the ending is very much in the air. Guaranteed Happily Ever After, but it will take a while to get there. The heat gets turned up in this slow burn, urban paranormal romance, with lots of snark and wit, fast-paced action, and a heroine that isn’t afraid to drop a four-letter word or violently defend herself and her friends. If you love Annette Marie, K.F. Breene, or Ilona Andrews, this is right up your alley. Intended for ages 18 years and older.

Read this series in one go and this book was difficult to finish. This rating is due to multiple things that were frustrating in this series. I understand it’s supposed to be a slow burn but it was ridiculous how many times we kept going around in circles with Jo/ Beck and their misunderstandings and complete lack of communication. So sick of each others conflicting actions and emotions that felt like it was dragged on for the sake of another book. Sick of Jo being smart and then conveniently forgetting crucial things she already knows. Sick of Jo making random quotes and references and now Beck is doing it too in the middle of fights as if everyone else is just standing around waiting for them to finish their bullshit. The quotes were fine in small amounts but when every sentence is a quote rather than continuing with the plot, it made me think this is probably the last book I’ll read of the series.

I read this in one sitting then turned around and started it again! More Jo, more quotes, more action, more magic, more *tension*… sign me up! I loved this book. I’m so glad some of the plot points are coming together. The magic was just SO COOL guys… and those fight scenes were awesome. Can we have the next book right now? Pretty please? I need more Jo and Beckett and the suspense is KILLING me!
A couple of thoughts, wants, or opinions (I will do my darnedest to avoid spoilers, although there might be references to past books):
•Per the usual… WHY ARE JO AND BECKETT SO DENSE I mean come onnn guys! Thank goodness some sh*t gets sorted out (and that doesn’t count as a spoiler cuz the author already said it, FYI)
•The amount of anxiety I have about how they are going to fix the inevitable events coming their way is driving me nuts, I really REALLY hope we see more of a development of an actual plan in regards to what Jo is going to do about the “somelots” chasing her (especially “Her”) and how they are getting closer, not to mention what is going to happen with Beckett’s vision. I guess we will have to wait for the next book! At least we got some content regarding some of the “somelots”!
•I feel like Jo probably has some intense stories to tell and things that happened while she was on the run and I would love to read more about that. It would be nice to learn more about what changed her from that wallflower to the kick-ass woman she became.
A few things that felt a little plot-hole-y to me:
•The encounter with the individual at the coffee shop was glossed right over, even with Wifey questioning it and E having to know something happened.
•Someone lost their temper big time and while it advanced the plot nicely, it seemed over-the-top for the character and situation. Not absurdly so, but just a little off.
•I do feel like there could have been just a little more content about the San Diego coven and more buildup to the end of that plot, especially since I feel like we may be seeing some characters again. I think San Diego plot got overshadowed a bit by the relationships in the book and the over-arching plot.

I'm "shelfing" this one at 12% because the extremely large amounts of inner monologuing that hold up the entire book PLUS cause each MC to make STUPID choices that are the EXACT OPPOSITE of what would further the plot and bring us action/resolution are giving me no end of frustration. I put up with it for the first 3 books but it's gotten old and I need a break.
Oh! And can we talk about the Spanish-speaking owl? Like... we get it. There's a language barrier. Now let's either resolve it, have someone around to interpret it for us (the reader) or drop it. It is EQUALLY annoying and estupido. 😝

I think my favorite part of this excellent series is the author's encyclopedic knowledge of strange and obscure quotes. It's really quite amazing that any one person could know so many and weave them throughout all the books and make them such an important part of Jo's way of communicating information that needs to be masked - as well as just being quirky, funny and so very intelligent. Her relationship is finally evolving. Her origin is beginning to be known and a very challenging situation is survived. I really love this series and hope there are many more adventures to come!!

Superb writing!
I read all three books and hated for it to end. A great storyline combined with humor and as real a story line as you can get. I felt like I knew the characters and their reactions. The author did a great job of holding my attention until the very end. I hope the author continues to write about the remaining characters.

Can you truly love book people?
Seriously? I think it’s possible. Also is it wrong that I knew 99% of those references? Clearly these are my people and this series is my jam. Loved it. Need more books please.

Loved it
I love this series, it takes s full of fun and humor. Jo is a fun MC with so many witty quotes. This book has her and Beckett getting closer, kinda.

Story and character building is addictive
For the first couple of books, I found the internal dialogue really difficult. Not because it wasn’t entertaining, it was voluminous and I felt slowed down the pace of the story. I skipped a couple of paragraphs often, to reduce frustration.
Now, I don’t know if I’m just very invested in characters that I have so much backstory for, or the pace is a lot faster now; but Book Four is brilliant and I’m re-reading paragraphs out of sheer entertainment. Can’t wait for the next instalment!!
