Review: I am so partial to a drawing-style book cover with pretty colors. Honestly, it’s my kryptonite. And there’s nothing worse than a bad book with an amazing cover. But you won’t find that here 😊
Man Scape by Vanessa Vale is book 5 in the On a Manhunt contemporary romance series. For full transparency, I have not read the other books in this series (yet), so I may have missed out from some inside context, however, I didn’t feel lost at any point, so I think this can work as a standalone as well. I do plan to check out the other books in the series!
Man Scape opens with a meet-cute that I’ve never personally seen done before, and it’s quirky and unserious nature sets the tone for the entire book. Let’s just say there’s a big misinterpretation involved…
The FMC, Melly, is a 24 year old librarian that, due to past trauma and her mother’s reputation, is outwardly comfortable with her smalltown seeing her as the boring, prudish good girl. She’s safe that way. She’s the polar opposite of her mom that way. However, inside Melly is a part of her that wants to, well, be a little bad. Be a little… naughty.
Daniel, the MMC, just turned 40, and after a life since 19 as a single father and business owner, he’s retired, has seen his son set, and is ready to see the world, starting with Scotland. However, a little situation involving Melly throws a wrench in his plans…
As the main couple, I think Melly and Daniel were incredible together. Their push and pull, their banter, their sex scenes… it was hot as hell and the tension could choke you. Aside from the sex itself, Melly and Daniel met each other on an emotional level as well. Melly gave Daniel a new perspective to view his future through, and Daniel gave Melly a safe and non-judgmental space (well, spaces 😉) to explore her sexuality and innermost desires. Their ability to be there for each other, and support each other, was a wonderful complement to the more sexual parts of their romance.
There are just two additional comments I would make on the story as a whole.
First, while I loved the overall banter between the main couple, sometimes the dialogue itself could get a little repetitive, like the conversation was going in circles. The same question would be ask numerous times in the same conversation, or just statements would appear to be repetitive. This didn’t take away from my enjoyment from the book at all, but just wanted to note.
Secondly,
Overall, this was an unserious, fun, and sexy romp of a time. If you’re looking for a quick hit of smalltown contemporary romance with some popular spice tropes, pick this up!
Story: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Trope: age gap, grumpy/sunshine Angst: 😱😱1/2 Smexy: 🔥🔥🔥🔥
Super cute read with tons of laugh out loud moments and a meet cute you won't forget. Daniel Pearson and "little" Melly Harwood definitely seem like an odd couple, but prove they can't live without each other pretty quickly. If you're looking for a quick instalove with hot smexy times and a daddy-esque feel then Man Scape will definitely tick your boxes!
Man Scape is my first book by Vanessa Vale, so I didn't know what to expect. I immediately wanted to read this since it was an ex-boyfriends dad, which is one of my favorite tropes. This book was pretty much all smut, with little plot.
I thought the beginning had a funny meet-cute and had some promise. Daniel received a message from a random woman stating he got her pregnant. He hunts down this mystery woman since he knows he couldn't have knocked up anyone, especially when he had a son at 19 and is always careful. He finds the woman at the vet and realizes it was all a mix-up and that his son's dog impregnated her dog. Once he sees Melly, he is immediately attracted to her, and he wants her, but he just left his business so he could finally travel and is leaving for Scotland soon. Melly is an inexperienced virgin, and she is also very attracted to Daniel. They decide to have a fling before he leaves, and things heat up super fast.
My main issue with this book was the insta-lust and how much Daniel sexualized Melly. He was entirely focused on her looks, body, curves, and it was like that the entire book. Their relationship is centered around the sex and they have no emotional connection, yet we are supposed to believe they fall for each other in a few days. I also didn't buy into the ex-boyfriend thing because she only went on 2 dates with his son, so he wasn't even her boyfriend.
If you are looking for a quick and spicy read, this may be perfect for you. However, I want more of an emotional and romantic connection, along with the spice.
🎧 Audiobook Review 🎧 The audiobook was narrated by Kylie Stewart. I think she did a great job voicing female and male parts. However, I think this would have been better if it also had a male narrator. It would have definitely improved the steamy scenes with all of Daniel's dirty talk.
Man! Vanessa Vale never ceases to keep me entertained. She knows how to write some spiceeeee 🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️ Man Scape was no different! The On a Man Hunt series is so good! 👌🏼👌🏼 Innocent Mellie and rugged Daniel are the hottest couple…maybe even hotter than my fave man in Man Hunt. Maverick has my heart but I think Daniel might have taken his place 🥵
I cannot wait for the next one!!
Thanks Vanessa Vale, and Valentine PR for continuing to let me read this incredible series before it’s release dates!
An insta-love sexy story. Daniel (he took care of Mallory's tree that went through her house) just sold his business to his brother and is getting ready to leave town. Accused of something he knows he didn't do he confronts the accuser. Melly is the virginal shy town librarian and is shocked by Daniel's confrontation. Shocked and turned on! So begins a whirlwind three days between the two of them full of contracts, addendums, & sex. Appearances from the characters in the previous four books and a wishy washy heroine and a dirty talking hero.
The story is the fifth in a new series, On A Manhunt, and has some funny and some out-of-character moments. This is a fun, fast-paced romance that includes embarrassing moments, age-gap romance, secrets, and resolutions. I liked the characters, and this one isn’t one of the James brothers—instead, it is Daniel Pearson and little Melly Harwood. The story is insta-lust, with a short-term, no-strings-attached, virgin librarian—growly lumberjack—May/December romance.
Daniel Pearson is a large man, 6’ 5”, and is making changes in his life, selling his business, Pearson Tree and Landscape Service, to his brothers, and going to Scotland to begin with. Getting the girl, he was involved with pregnant, becoming a father at nineteen, and raising his son, Danny, who is now twenty-one, Daniel is ready to do all the things he felt he missed when he had to leave college and become a responsible Dad.
Little Melly Harwood, a nerdy, shy, petite, librarian, has a mundane life. Preparing her food for a week, reading smutty books at home, and rarely even going on a date. She wants to avoid being associated with her hippie-free-love-homewrecker mother and the sleazy men she hooks up with. But that doesn’t mean Melly doesn’t want a man, she just wants a man she feels comfortable with—so that is why she is a twenty-four-year-old virgin.
“The test came back positive. You need to call me.” “I told you this would happen, but no. You thought a little fun wouldn’t have consequences. Call me.” “Where are you? What am I supposed to do, take care of this on my own?” “Fine, fun was had. Now we face the consequences.”
The story’s plot will have Daniel being informed by his office manager that he got little Melly Harwood, a Librarian, pregnant. He doesn’t even know who she is—learns she is over at the vet's office and barges in like he owns the place. What a shock to learn it is her dog that is expecting and his son’s dog is the daddy. But, from the moment that Daniel and Melly meet, there is angst and chemistry, and yet, he is nearly twice her age. Daniel has plans, and they didn’t include Melly—until now. A verbal contract, a timeline, and almost anything goes, but no sharing and these two become insatiable when together. What a shock when they are caught by his brothers, and then his son. Three days, then Daniel is leaving for Scotland with no return date.
Both Daniel and Melly have parents who have altered their views on commitment and relationships. Melly’s Dad left, and her mother is into free love and tries to get Melly to be the same. There is no structure in a relationship, and she doesn’t want that kind of life. Daniel’s Dad left their family when he was eight because he got involved with his secretary. Then he moves across town and starts a new family with them. If this is family and relationships, count them out. Daniel raised his son Danny without Haven because she didn’t want the responsibility. He had the support of his mother and brothers, but now it is time for him.
Melly: Thank you. Daniel: For what? Orgasms? Melly: Definitely. Orgasms. I guess letting me do things I never would with, well, anyone else. Daniel: Sweet girl, don’t you know? Melly: What? Daniel: It’s all inside of you. Who you are. You just had to let the real Melly Harwood out to be seen. Melly: I’m not Dorothy and this isn’t The Wizard of Oz.
I loved the chemistry between these two and what seems like a quick solution to their situation, leads them to new issues. Will they be able to get past their past history with family members and acknowledge that they are great together? In the end, these two discover that they aren’t like their parents and that they really do want more with each other. The story is full of dirty talk and explicit sex scenes.
I haven’t read the ‘bonus scenes’ yet, but I always look forward to them (found in her newsletter.) This story, and what looks like several more, seem to revolve around the various men of Colorado and the town of Hunter Valley in Montana.
I love books with the age-gap trope. Which is the case with Man Scape.
This book was hot hot hot... Daniel and Melly were the cutest couple from the series. The things between them happened very fast, which I loved. What else to say than the insta-lust pull was strong and there wasn't a chance for them not to be together. They both know what they want when it comes to relationships, but when it comes to love, you can't stop destiny.
What I especially loved was all of those sex scenes and, believe me, they were full of spice and very very kinky 🥵🥵🥵.
Overall, I loved this book and I can't wait for the next one from the series.
***I received an ARC from Valentine PR and this is my voluntary review.*
I honestly had no expectations for this book so I cannot say I was let down but had I had some expectations, I would definitely feel disappointed.
Honestly, the best part of this book was definitely the spice and that was what earned the three stars. Without the spice, this would have been two stars for me.
I felt like there was really no plot going on and the little plot relating to the the relationship between the MC’s was more of a side kick kind of thing instead of there actually being a plot that kept the book interesting.
The MMC was not my typical type which might have also affected my detachment from the book but I also felt that Daniel and Melly fell a bit flat to me. I mean, there was a bit of a background story for both of them that explained some of their behavior but I felt like I did not really know the characters.
Overall, this was a quick and easy read for the spice and as long as you know what to expect (or not to expect) when going in, Man Scape is worth the read.
I received an ARC of Man Scape in exchange for an honest review
Thank you to Author Vanessa Vale & Valentine PR for providing me with an ARC of Man Scape; book 5 in the On a Man Hunt series. All opinions shared are my own.
Daniel Pearson Snr, the prior owner of a successful tree care business (who we first meet in book 2) and 'little' Melly Harwood, town librarian and apparent good girl, meet in a case of mistaken pregnancy. Intrigued? It's a hilarious meet cute I hadn't read before. Despite their age gap, or the fact that Melly has previously been on a date with Daniel Jnr, their connection is instant and the 🔥 amazing!
The whole story takes place within a week and therefore, it makes sense how little depth there is to their connection. It's only ever supposed to be a fling and that shows in the storyline (in a good way). This was a type of romance than the other stories in the series and I really enjoyed it!
I'm looking forward to the 6th and final book in the series, Man Handle, and learning who our MCs will be!
This story is about Melly and Daniel. Daniel is 16 yrs older than Melly. She went on a few dates with his son before she met Daniel and decided she was into older men! Especially the brawny lumberjack kind. This is a small town romance with a HEA. I enjoyed this book very much, the storyline was great as well as the steamy scenes.
I'm LOVING the On a Manhunt series; it just keeps getting better. Vanessa did not disappoint; she brings us all the heat and laugh-out-loud moments, and you can't help but swoon over the men in this series.
This is the second book I’ve read in this series and it is fantastic!
This is a fun, smexy, age gap story that takes place in a small town…everything I love in a story.
Daniel (Sr) has just retired from his landscaping business but is a bit restless. Melly is a sweet librarian…at least that’s what everyone in town believes.
Melly Daniel meet in the most entertaining way. And there is an instant attraction/lust that is meant to only be a fling….but then feelings get in the way. There is great banter, laughs and passion in this story.
This was my first listen of this narrator, this audiobook turns out to be quite a surprise as the story is definitely one you should read or listen to according to your preferences. Bit of a slow start because I love a duet dual audiobook but this ended up being a great listening experience regardless of my personal preference.
A dirty talking hot as hell single dad/Lumberjack, And One sinful not so innocent Liberian who wants him and his… wood.
💚Don't date your son's ex. Especially when she's supposedly the town's good girl. But the sweet, shy librarian isn't a good girl at all.💚
Mellie Harwood The little librarian the quite innocent shy sweet girl who was so insanely heated up by this older hot sexy grumpy fine as hell man giving her hell for accusing him of getting her pregnant… and boy oh boy the image playing in her head was any but! This girl was something else, she comes off all innocent but lord knows this girl sinful erotic And knows she shouldn’t but she really. really wants. to . With him!
💚She can't be, because she wants me--the local lumberjack, and my...wood. I'm her ex's dad but she says she doesn't want guys her age. Or a relationship.💚
Daniel The bossy very Growly grumpy lumberjack with a dirty mouth and filthy mind was being accused of getting someone pregnant, but was met with an innocent librarian and her very pregnant dog.. this was such a cute meet moment, but what had this grumpy man in knots is the woman in front of him and his intense attraction for her. All he knows was that he wanted more time with her so finding any excuse will have to do until he found himself with the not so innocent little Millie.. and ohh my lord…the way how he plans to defiled that innocent little Millie ….. it’s whew ….wickedly hot I tell you!
💚She wants a fling. And since I'm leaving Hunter Valley in a few days, I'll definitely indulge her. We'll have fun while it lasts and then she'll go back to fooling the town and I'll just go. Right?💚
The banter and chemistry was off the charts with these two and although I didn’t love that this was not done in dual or duet style narration, I can’t say I didn’t love or not enjoyed how the narrator Kylie Stewart made it an enjoyable experience by doing a great job bringing all the characters to life! Well done girl !!
I would definitely listened again!
In Hunter Valley, it’s always open season on men. Will the biggest one in town be the easiest to catch?
A must read or listen for sure !

Well, this book proved this line so beautifully. This book is about Daniel Pearson Senior, a Lumberjack, who's making small steps to live his life on his own terms after years of taking responsibilities and making a life for his son. But his plan changes when he gets a message on his office phone stating "The test came back positive. You need to call me. I told you this would happen, but no. You thought a little fun wouldn’t have consequences. Call me. Where are you? What am I supposed to do, take care of this on my own? Fine, fun was had. Now we face the consequences."
Little Melly Harwood, a librarian and a shy nerdy girl who avoids relationships like plaque because of her mother's adventures. But when she comes across Daniel Pearson, all the reasoning flows out of the window and they decide to have a fling before Daniel leaves for Scotland.
To be honest, I really loved this book. This book was so easygoing and fun to read. Some scenes made me laugh so hard, especially the beginning and the whole dog fiasco. The chemistry between Daniel and Melly was sizzling hot. This book was really fun.
Omg!! I love this series so much!!! And even though this one isn't about a James brother it is just as amazing!! I love Daniel just as much and let me just say he has some brother's that I also wouldn't mind getting to know a lot more about!! So I am just saying this series can keep on going with them!! But Daniel is a big ole Lumberjack of a growly man who is so yummy. And Melly is known as little Melly that is shy and reserved and she runs the library. But get her behind closed doors with Daniel and she is a totally different woman. I loved the chemistry between these two!! The banter between the brother's was hilarious!! This was a fantastic read and one of my favorite series ever!! I highly highly this entire series!!
Another great addition to such a fun series, this one with a librarian meets lumberjack, age gap, and dogs that are up to no good! I thought their "meet cute" and the misunderstanding was really funny, because it really had me going too, wondering how it was going to play out! The age gap is on the bigger side in my opinion, Daniel is about 40 and Melly is 24, but I think they both mesh so well together.
There was some added drama of Melly being Daniel's son's ex, which intrigued me from the blurb but also isn't really my thing, so I was glad to find out that the term ex is very vague, and really Melly and the son had been on two boring dates.
I love how even though the characters in this book aren't ones we really knew about from the previous books in the series, we find out how they are all connected (it is a small town after all) and get to see those series favorites back together and supporting Melly and Daniel. Even though this book is heavy on the steam and less on the emotional side, as expected from this series, I still felt a great connection between Melly and Daniel, and I loved how everything worked out for their HEA!
3.5/5 - This story, like the rest of the books in the On a Manhunt series is a lot of smut with a little story. It's a cute story, but there is not tons of plot to go on.
Daniel is a major grump and his "meet cute" with Melly is hilarious. I will say that Daniel is a pretty smooth dirty talker and I loved how he took his cues from Melly and what she wanted. As with other books by this author, I found it a little insta-lovey, and didn't delve into the plot points as much as I would like.
I read these books for the fluffiness and the laughs and I got those in this one.
Read if you like: age gap, grumpy/sunshine, virgin FMC, ex's dad
Gosh this book had me cracking up so much. Especially their little meet cute (you’ll have to read to find out). Their insta-love connection had me so giddy for them. The spice and steam was everything. This was the first book I’ve ever read/listened by Vanessa Vale and I was interested from the get go. I am not sure if I’ve listened to Kylie Stewart narrate before but I would 100% listen to them again.
Some tropes would include: ex’s dad, insta love, age gap & small town. Some TWs may be neglectful mother, & alcohol.
Thank you to Author Vanessa Vale and Valentine PR for allowing me to listen to this audiobook. 💚
"Man Scape" is a sizzling small-town romance that explores the complexities of family, love, and self-discovery. With its undeniable chemistry, laugh-out-loud moments, and entertaining cast of characters, this book is a delightful addition to the series, and I thoroughly enjoyed every page. If you're a fan of small-town romances with a hint of humor and a lot of heart, Vanessa Vale's "Man Scape" is well worth the read.
I simply adored Daniel and Melly's romance. Filled with lots of laughs, a ton of heart, and plenty of steam, this book had me firmly in its clutches and with absolutely zero desire to be anywhere else. There is a perfect balance between cuteness and feels and poignancy and angst here and that means you can look forward to many chuckles, much heartstring tugging, and oceans of swoon. This series is quite simply the best and I am always super eager to enjoy the next book in this irresistible series.
From beginning to end this felt very abrupt and rushed. The ending did not give me happily ever after vibes, it felt very happy for now which was a little disappointing. I did loveee the spice and the age gap/older man trope but I needed more to believe that they actually are in love and live a happy live together. Maybe if there was an epilogue, it would of helped?
I did LOVE the cameos from the previous books tho I will say that!
3 stars for smut, cameos, and older lumberjack dad.
Another hottie has been discovered in Hunter Valley! Unfortunately, he's not another James brother but fortunately he is a sexy, growly, actual lumberjack! Daniel Pearson, retired owner at only 40 of Pearson Tree Service has just been told he's about to be a baby daddy! Turns out the messages left on the Pearson answering machine were for his son not him, and he's going to be a granddad but of the furry kind! His son's dog might have knocked up the sexy, quiet, librarians' dog, Little Melly Harwood. This sets off a chain of events that leads to dirty talk and an extremely beneficial contract that they will both enjoy until Daniel leaves for Scotland at the end of the week. It's supposed to be fun and not leave the confines of his house, her house......and his truck. Just three days and these two are hooked. On each other. I loved Melly and Daniel! Another fun sexy filled adventure from Hunter Valley! I'm hoping this series continues with Daniel's sexy lumberjack brothers next.
My Thoughts: Melly is known for being the quiet good girl in town. She's the town's librarian. Daniel Pearson is a single dad known as the good looking lumberjack. Melly is also his son's ex, whom she has had trouble getting a hold of. After receiving an unexpected message that leaves him confused he seeks Melly out. These two have amazing chemistry and banter. This book has lumberjacks, humor, dirty talk, good girl, and spice. I recommend reading this book.
The relationship escalated pretty quickly, it felt ridiculous because these two didn't really have conversations when they were together. But there were really funny moments and it makes an easy read.
Daniel and Melly have a meet cute that starts with some serious accusations. Once that gets worked out Daniel realizes he is very attracted to Melly....but she is his son's ex! The attraction/insta lust goes pretty fast in this one with a quick fling before Daniel is set to leave the country. But what happens when a fling turns into feelings? I enjoyed the audiobook narration by Kylie Stewart. This was my first book by Vanessa Vale and my first audiobook narrated by Kylie Stewart. I will definitely be back to read/listen to more by the author and narrator.
