LOVE THIS CLAN! Yes, this is the first in a new series on the Healers, but has the Ramsey's and Grants sprinkled throughout. It is a stand alone, but I would encourage you to read this author's previous series.

Not a surprise that this author pulls you into her stories from the beginning to the end. The character's jump off the page and you feel you know them to their souls.

There is something serious going on Black Isle. The Clan is dying so the oldest son heads off with his brothers to find the renown Healer's. Of course, this doesn't go as planned and then the drama begins. Is it a curse or is it a villain?

This story has humor, great banter, suspense, wonderful character's and a great plot. We have romance with two strong and loving character's and mild lovemaking within handfast rules, heat level 2 out of 5. Plus two adorable children that will warm your heart.

The epilogue is heartwarming, but also heart wrenching. We don't have a cliffhanger for our main couple but from another family member.

No cheating, a very bumpy road to reach HEA, romance and steam. I received an early copy, all opinions are my own and freely given. (ljb)

Meh, it was alright. I'm not even going to tag this romance, honestly, because despite the H/h saying they love each other, you don't feel it at all. They've known each other for like 3 days have probably spent like 15 min in conversation, and there's just no chemistry. Overall, the book was pretty bland, hence the "meh" tag.

The narrative felt a bit clunky too. Overly repetitive, overly wordy, just ... again, meh.

I was feeling like some highlander romance, but this just didn't do it for me.

I like a highland story. 4.5 stars 🌟
This was an interesting story, which started with the kidnapping of 3 cousins, all healer’s . By 3 brothers who needed help in finding a cure for their Clan.

Marcas and Brigid story. Is the first in the Highland Healer’s series. .
Big family network going on here. Which I will probably look into, after reading this series .

Thrilling New Highland Healer Series:
Marcus is a new laird of his clan that has a devastating situation.
He has a plan to find a healer to help his clan.
This is where he meets Brigid and soon both of their lives will drastically change.
There is mystery, many humorous moments, desirous attraction, some heartfelt admissions, wonderful family reunion, sadness, battles, heroic rescues, a few kisses, and many tense moments.
There is a lot going on in this story that keeps you turning pages at a rapid pace.
All of the characters in the story were delightful; except the villain of course.
We had families reunited from the previous series but this book is still a stand
alone if you haven't read the previous books.
A emotional story that at times brought tears to my eyes and also had me chuckling..
I love stories about healers and this story was well written and a real joy to read.
I look forward to the next in the series.
I was granted an early copy of this amazing story for my honest opinion.

The Curse of Black Isle
Highland Healers #1
Keira Montclair
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Marcas Matheson's life is not what it once was. It seems as if he has no control over the fate of those who faithfully follow their clan. A fatal illness has run rampant through his clan, taking not only his parents and his wife, but many other loyal clan members as well. They are calling it a curse. The curse of Black Isle. Now as heir to the chieftain, Marcas must be both a leader and a savior to his people, but there are problems. His people are quickly losing faith in him. There are already rumors surfacing that blame him. They say that it was his poor decisions that brought the curse in the first place, causing him to doubt his ability to lead the clan. But when his small daughter ends up sick as well, Marcas has no qualms about the decision he's about to make. He must find a healer, a healer who is gifted enough to save his little girls life. And he has decided that he will stop at nothing to get the healer he needs.

Brigid Ramsay is a healer and when she is abducted in the middle of the night she knows all she has to do is bide her time. As her over protective father, former spy, and feared agent for the crown, will move heaven and earth to find her. Her captor surely must not be all there in his head because you would have to be a crazed loon to kidnap the daughter of Logan Ramsay. But when Bridig realizes that a young girls life could be hanging in the balance she starts to soften towards her captor, and vows to help him. Now working together Brigid can't deny how she's starting to feel about Marcas. She knows she's falling in love, but how could Marcas love her when she's not the great healer that he believes her to be?

Can Brigid save the life of Marcas' daughter before her own father arrives and turns everything upside down in anger?

Keira Montclair starts a new series with a bang. This book is absolutely fabulous. It's a must read for anyone. The two main characters were well matched and you couldn't help, but quietly root for the two of them to get together. The other great thing is having Brigid's family come in. That was like visiting with old friends. I highly recommend this book. Ms. Montclair I can't wait to see what the next story will bring.

Not worth the read

The writing needs improvement. The story was too predictable, the characters not well developed, and no writing enrichment. There are better writers covering this period and genre.

Much more than a kidnapper-to-soulmate romance, "The Curse of the Black Isle" presents some interesting information and possibilities for the medieval healing arts. Of course, Keira Montclair also continues the saga of the wonderful Grant-Ramsey families from prior books.

Most particularly I enjoyed the three young healers' approaches to differential diagnosis of infectious vs noninfectious disease, and their logistics to finding the source of the clan's devastating illness. Their herbal treatments seem reasonable for the time period. and the forward thinking attention to cleanliness and preventive actions satisfies me. The mystery surrounding the hero's first marriage puts just enough intrigue into the story.

The family dynamics brings smiles and chuckles, and thankfully the author makes no assumptions that the reader knows the various relatives from prior books. I could easily enjoy these secondary character relatives even though this is my first time reading the author's creative work.

The romantic relationship between healer Brigid and clan chief Marcas develops steadily throughout the story without gratuitous lustful encounters. Intimacy occurs near the end of the story and is not graphic.

I so enjoyed this book, and look forward to healer Jennet's story next in the series. I recommend this book to historical romance readers who like to delve into healing arts of that period and who enjoy a less sensual and more captivating romantic story.

Deserves much more than five stars. This is a new series by this author and I can't wait for book two. Brigid and Marcas' story was excellent. Everything moves quickly, not because the story is short, but because it is so very good that you want to continue reading. Having read this author's previous series, it was really good to have a lot of the characters from the other series present. Logan & Gwenyth Ramsay are amazing. I am so happy the author included them. It brought the story to life for me.

Marcas' is a desperate man who must resort to desperate measures. It's a life or death situation, therefore he does what he must.

Brigid, never thought that she would have the adventure she was about to embark on. Unfortunately, she included Jenette. Then they receive a surprise along the way with Tara.

I just know that this entire series is going to be a hit!

Highlands and healers? Sold. Also this is giving the vibe of a series where there’s a big close knit family or this is a spin off to a series like that and I am here for it. Can’t wait to read them all!

Sweet, Romantic story but…

I saw the reviews, good and bad, and decided to see for myself which it was. It’s a sweet, romantic story with a bit a mystery thrown in that seems to take place sometime prior to Scotland’s Reformation, so maybe the 15th century? It immediately reminded of an early ‘80’s TV show about 7 Brides for 7 brothers. The writing style is smooth, the plot twists, though predictable, are in the right place but there are too many appropriations of contemporary words coming out of the mouths of the characters which makes me cringe. A 15th century man would never say “I need your input”, a man of that period would never suggest he buried someone in a box with a tube for air. So these things are BIG negatives because that’s lazy writing and stars come off.

I have noticed lately in contemporary romance there is a trend to depict men of the Middle Ages through the 19th century as more contemporary in thought by recognizing and acknowledging the abilities of women and thinking of them as equals. We all know that’s not the way it was however stories influence readers. Thinking back to how my life was influenced by books, there is a psychological benefit to changing the male character perspectives so that young women readers don’t accept oppressive, controlling men as normal and aspire for better relationships.

3 stars because technically it’s well written though naïf, but for me, using contemporary words in a historical romance is a big no no. This story came through my Kindle Unlimited suggestions and I am reminded again why I’m not a romance fiction fan.

I had high hopes

It was a struggle to read. The top flaws:

1. Plot. It had a unique premise: a mysterious illness that connects two people. However, the premise could not sustain a strong plot. The story started with the after effects of the illness which meant the characters could not linger in finding a solution. Therefore, the author kept adding additional storylines to fill the pages. You got an in depth family history of the female protagonist, Brigid, with all their romance recaps, a missing child, and a bad dead wife. It was a mess at times. The bad dead wife storyline was a too convenient tool to make the storyline work. It was basically “how dear he love again so quickly; oh she was a bad person so no problem with him moving on”. Why not acknowledge that he was in a loveless marriage and simply found love elsewhere without disparaging the dead wife and making her the cause of everything bad.

2. One dimensional characters. Everyone had one personality trait and stuck to it. Brigid was the curious caring one, Marcus was the reluctant leader, Jennet was the stoic one while Ethan did not like noise, etc...

3. Bad writing overall. I read about the the same story of the wife’s misdeeds in every chapter including how Brigid’s family were great trackers. I skipped a lot after I notice the patterns. It lack really chemistry and was dull at the end. I wanted more recently romance.

Overall this was my first healer and last healer story.

Didn’t finish after chapter 3. I don’t know why authors feel like they have to rush into the romance. Especially when they have set up a situation like in this book. Marcus is kidnapping these healers to help his clan. Obviously he is desperate and going through something very difficult. Why would he be instantly lusting and drooling all over this girl he’s just kidnapped? Likewise the women are going through being kidnapped. Shouldn’t Brigid be too preoccupied with escape and worry for what will happen to them to be lusting after some random guy she just met? Her kidnapper nonetheless!! And she looks into his eyes and just instantly knows she can trust him? How? And why? That’s so lame and dumb. And easy. That just erased any opportunity for the author to build and create trust between them organically and naturally. It’s so much more interesting to watch them do things together and learn to trust and respect each other. What is the point of a romance novel that has the two characters seeing eachother and instantly lusting after eachother for zero reason whatsoever?I will never understand that type of writing that doesn’t want to weave an intricate tale. Anyone can write a romance if all they have to do is have the characters look at eachother and make them be instantly in love.

If you don’t mind insta love then this might be good for you? The set up seems like it could be good with the healers and mysterious illness. But the characters all seem a bit flat.

I LOVED IT!! Gripping and Suspenseful and so much more! I love when a book grabs you right from the start and takes you on a heart-stopping journey as the opening scenes will catch your attention and it will not let you go till the very end of the book. The Curse of Black Isle weaves a story from beginning to end with threads of intrigue, mystery, and kidnapping as a mysterious curse is slowly killing Marcas Matheson’s clan. Marcas needs a healer before anymore people die including his young daughter and he has a plan that will get him the best healer... although his plan didn't go exactly as he contemplated. Keira Montclair has written a heart stopping story that brims with tension-building twist and turns, filled with characters with such depth and individuality that they come off the pages and will pull you into their tale, that is smoothly written, a superb plott, and great dialogue. With visit from characters from other series who you found a special place in your heart. The setting descriptions and action sequences are wonderfully vivid which brings this read together perfectly.

Lumayan untuk buku pembuka series ini. Tadinya agak underestimated soalnya sepertinya saya kurang sreg sama si authornya.

Great new series

This is a new series and another fantastic story by Keira Montclair. Whether you have read her previous series or this is your first book, you will absolutely enjoy this story. In a desperate attempt to save their Clan, Marcus and his brothers mistakenly kidnap the wrong healers. But they are lucky as Brigid, Jennet, and Tara are more than capable healers in their own right. This story grabbed me right from the start. Keira Montclair's characters are some of my favorites and new or old they always feel like family. As with their mothers, sisters, and cousins, the women are feisty and have no problem voicing what they think. It's a great story with love, romance, family, friendship, self discovery, and mystery. It's very easy to get lost in this story, meeting new characters and I love seeing the characters we already know. If this is your first Highland book, do not worry - you won't have a problem following the story. But you will probably find yourself with books to add to your "to be read" list! I can't wait to see what is next for these Highland Healers.

Stolen for destiny

Brigid is a healer and has been trained in healing and archery by her mother a renowned healer and famous for archery! Brigid has also been taken before! So this is doubly terrifying for her! Brigid father is strict she has never been courted any man showing interest was immediately scared off by her father!
Marcus is in charge of a keep and would be chief as his parents and over half of the keep died from a "heaving" sickness and no one k we its cause! Marcus creeps in and find not one but two lasses together that claim to be healers! What a stroke of luck for the kidnappers! What is plaguing their clan is even more evil and selfish how 1 person can be that evil to get on one person, you would harm all???
Brigid doesn't know why but she is drawn to Marcus and his plight! The kidnapping commenced but the girls left clues only almost skilled tracker would know. When the parents come for them Brigid can leave the isle with her heart or stay and fight with Marcus for the future they deserve.

The Curse of Black Isle by Keira Montclair
Highland Healers Series Book One
Marcas Matheson was a desperate man on a mission. He had to save his sister and daughter. A curse had attacked their clan, and it was up to him to bring the best healers Marcas knew of to help them. Stealing them away in the middle of the night was a significant error, considering the clans he was taking them from.
Brigid Ramsay would like to find a man to love, but with Logan Ramsay as her father…well, good luck with that. Every man who knew her father feared him and wouldn’t stand up to him. So, when Brigid and her cousin Jennet were taken away in the middle of the night, it became an adventure…once she stopped fearing the handsome man who had taken them.
So excited for the next book in this new series. I loved the characters and storyline and seeing “old friends” once again, such as Logan and Gwyneth.

This is the first book in the Highland Healers series and I can tell it will be a terrific series!! I really enjoyed Marcas and Brigid's story, it's fast paced, exciting and has humour as well as some heart wrenching parts.

When Marcas kidnaps Brigid and 2 others, he's desperate to bring the healers to his village on the Black Isle to see if they can uncover the mystery behind the deadly curse that is killing so many of his clan, his wife and parents included. I felt like I was right there with the healers, trying to find the cause of the deadly illness. When all is revealed, my heart broke for all the needless deaths.

Logan Ramsay, Brigid's father, made me smile, it's not easy letting go of our children!! From what I gather, many of these characters are from previous books so I will have to make sure I put them on my TBR pile!!

I look forward to reading the next books in this series!

This was an interesting book. This is the first book I have read from Keira Montclair and I am sure I will read more from her. The pace of the book was a bit slow for me. I like a lot of action but I did enjoy the chemistry between the main and side characters.
.
In this book, Clan Matheson is in desperate need of a healer. Upon hearing there are two skilled healers in two really strong clans, Matheson decided to kidnap them to help his dying clan. Especially his young daughter. Once kidnapped the three ladies (yes three instead of the intended two) were taken on a journey all the while not knowing precisely who had them in their clutches.

Once they arrive at the small ill clan, their training kicks in and they are as desperate to help Clan Matheson as the laird. There is an interesting twist to this story and it was well placed that I didn’t see it coming.

I gave this book 4 stars. It was an enjoyable read. I tip my Nerd Girl Hat to you.

Marcas has lost most of his clan, and his family to "the curse" which is a heaving sickness. In a desperate attempt to save those who are left, he steals away with a couple healers--one who he thought was Brenna Ramsey. It turned out, it was not.

Brigid wonders what this guy wants when he demands her and Tara come with him. When he tells her what he needs, they agree to help. In their sleuthing they find a surprising culprit for the sickness.

The book was interesting, I enjoyed reading about the healers and their progressive clans. The romance happened to quickly, though. Marcas stole Brigid, but yet she lusted over him? So soon? I guess it's believable if she was always under the eye of her watchful father, Logan, but it makes her seem like a silly goose.

Marcas? Logan Ramsey put it best when he asked him, "why didn't you just ask for help?"

I liked how Brigid found her calling in life in this story, that was pretty cool. On to book 2....

What a fabulous beginning to the new series, Highland Healers & it filled me with all the right emotions. I laughed, cried, sighed & then cried again but the treacherous road to happiness was finally found. I loved visiting with past characters (not necessary to read the previous books), Logan & Gwynie & others. There is nothing worse than finding out you have kidnapped former Crown spies & Highland legends, Logan & Gwyneth Ramsay's daughter, Brigid. Laird Marcas Matheson took Brigid for, what he thought, were the right reasons but not all things are as they seem to be. I highly recommend this to all historical romance readers if you enjoy action, romance, danger, family love & a HEA. I voluntarily read & reviewed an Advanced Reader's Copy of this book; all thoughts & opinions are my own.

Keira Montclair get to me with every book she writes, this is a new series and the first book about Marcas Mathedon and BrigId Ramsay. BrigId is the daughter of Logan Ramsay, the crowns spy and he is very protective of her! Marcas has lost his family because of a illness his clan calls curse of Black Isle, and he is the Chiefian of his clan now. When his daughter gets ill he needs to find a healer, and BrigId is a healer, Marcas kidnaps BrigId so she can heal his daughter. She isn't worried because she knows her father will find her, during the story Marcas and BrigId developed a strong attraction to each other, Was happy to see other characters in story from previous books, this book held my attention so much, I read it and then got a ARC Audible to listen to. Paul Woodson voice brought the story to life in my head!Would recommend buying this new series, gave it a five star rating.

Love at first sight, almost.

Marcus is the new chief of the Mathewson clan on the Black Isle, but not by choice. A curse has taken over his clan killing over half is clan including his parents and his wife. When his daughter gets sick, he and his brothers head to the Ramsey clan to abduct the healers to bring back to his clan to heal them and eliminate the curse. Brigid, Jennet and Tara are cousins and all healers. Once they are abducted and on the road to the Mathewson clan and hear what has happened, they agree to go along to help the clan. There is an almost immediate attraction between Brigid and Marcus that grows quickly. There are some twists and turns in the story that kept my attention and I really enjoyed the flow. Well written sweet story.

The first book in this new series and it is a total winner for me!! Loved this book!!! Brigid, daughter of legendary Logan and Gwyneth Ramsay, and Marcas Matheseon, new Laird of a dying clan. He must find a healer to help save his daughter and clan, so he steals one.

Wonderful story full of surprises, laugh out loud moments and a wonderful love story between Brigid and Marcas. I liked that it also took place in a new area of Scotland.

I'm so looking forward to the next book. Did I say I'm REALLY REALLY looking forward to the next book?!! Lol!! I always look forward to Keira's next book!

I loved all series but this new one, it threw me off a bit.

I didn't like that they joked around and at the dead man they killed.
The second, the steamy scene was glossed over, there wasn't a detail, like the author was in a hurry to finished it. ((Maybe the author didn't want to do it since Brigie is not of age?))
Kinda disappointing.

I was startled when it mentioned Alex as If he were alive, and he was. Thought he died in the last series I read. This must be for when before Alex died. Just as Quade.

I'm glad they found each other, the clan curses weren't cursed and their clan was expanded with their new and old clan returned.

Marcas ❤️ Brigid

There were a few bits earlier on where the writing was just odd. The word choice or sentence structure, something was just weird about it. Weird enough it gave me pause. But it didn’t persist and thankfully other than a typo or two it was well written.

As I was reading I quickly realized this must be a spinoff of a larger series, and while I think reading them might help with so many names to remember and know, the central story of Brigid and Marcas is the focus here, so it is a standalone. But a very connected one.

Very low on spice/steam. Must keep the time period in mind as the mMC is 25, and the fMC is 17.

This was a fast paced romantic love story about Marcus and Brigid. Marcus was soon to become the Laird of his clan when a terrible sickness attacked his community, killing his mother, father and his wife. Many of the other clan members died as well. He thought of an idea. He would abduct a couple of well renowned healers from another clan. That is when he met Brigid and his life changed. He ended up with three healers and they did their best to investigate the issue at Black Isle and came up with the answer and he came up with a new bride.

While I do understand that his clan had just taken a huge loss, I still find that Marcas seemed a little weak. He didn’t know at first if he wanted to take over the lairdship, he didn’t swim because he didn’t like the underwater grass and fish touching him, he didn’t like killing the attackers and hoped he didn’t have to ever do it again. Sigh….. I know this next thing may seem petty but the heroine has green eyes but the woman on the cover has brown eyes. I love when publishers and/or authors pay attention to the details written into the books.
