Just as the title says, it's a very good practical guide. If you are preparing to do a sociolinguistic research, it's very likely that there will be something about your topic in this book. It covers a wide variety of topics and methodologies, theoretical introductions and practical examples from relevant researches. Extensive bibliographies at the end of each chapter allows you to explore each topic in more detail.
