Ferry Lane Market #3

Väike külaturg. Vikerkaar

Rate this book
39-aastane Glanna Pascoe, keda tuntakse ka vikerkaarekunstnikuna, peab Cornwallis Ferry Lane´i turul Hartmouthi galeriid. Briti autor Nicola May on pugenud eestlaste südamesse sarjadega „Väike nurgapood“ ja „Väike külaturg“.

Such a simply fabulous book, it started off quite slow, setting up who the new characters to the series were -

- but as we established that, it became a simply fantastic read, with all manner of great storylines to follow.

We get to catch up with old friends, and see new sides of familiar characters, and perhaps in the case of a couple, a bit more than we wanted to know or see of them (and what they get up to in their spare time!), and I loved every second of it.

From Glanna's love of art, her continued recovery from addiction, trying to work out what she really wants from life, it was all so relatable and that she and the other characters felt so real.

In fact once again Nicola May's ability to write a wonderful character are at the forefront, and with this familiar setting to those that have been reading the series, this is just clearly another winner from this exceptionally talented author.

Gutted that this third books appears to be the end of the trilogy, I really hope it's turned into a longer series, as I feel there are so many more characters stories to be explored down at Ferry Lane Market.

Thank you to Hodder and Netgalley for this copy which I have reviewed honestly and voluntarily.

A nice ending on the triology.

Sadly I can only rate it 3* because I needed more of the charm, as the other books had.

Also I wish the book werent about a new character (that we hardly heard about before) + I am missing more of the original people in the story.

If I don't think of it as part of a series, then it's very nice. But as a 3rd book, it's missing something..

Rainbows End in Ferry Lane Market by Nicola May
MY REVIEW
This is Book 3 in the Ferry Lane Market series, but works perfectly well as a standalone.
Glanna Pascoe is approaching her 40th birthday. She lives in Flat 4, Ferry Lane, Hartmouth with her lovely dog Banksy. She runs an art gallery and is an artist herself, known as ‘the Rainbow Painter’ through her love of painting rainbows.
We soon meet the important people in her life, including her mum Penelope (Penny) and her dad Fred Gribble, who is one of my favourite characters. We also meet her therapist Myles Armstrong and learn Glanna has been in rehab, and is trying to stay sober.
Glanna’s flaws are made obvious early on. She hasn’t had an easy life, with drink and drugs and a broken relationship with ex-boyfriend Oliver Trueman, who she left because he wanted children and she didn’t. He appears back on the scene, but there’s also the enigmatic and attractive famous artist Isaac Benson (55), who lives nearby with his gorgeous dog Beethoven. Like Glanna, I could definitely see the appeal of both of them! (Oliver being compared to Idris Elba helped, ha ha!)
I enjoyed the art themes and found it all very interesting, plus the life drawing classes add an extra dimension to the book with new characters to discover and lots of opportunity for humour.
Talking of art, the book cover is beautiful and I know Nicola May’s father draws them for her and he really does a fabulous job!
I love the community aspect of these kinds of books and this one is really believable. I like seeing familiar characters pop up in the area and places like coffee shops and cafes, florists, fruit and veg shops, as well as Ferry Lane market itself.
My only tiny criticism of this book is that there was a bit too much sex. But that’s just my individual preference, so don’t let it put you off.
I really enjoyed the book. It’s well-written, and there is a great variety of wonderful characters to get to know. I also liked that although there is romance at the core of the book, there’s so much more. Glanna has to overcome her demons and sort herself out, before she can find happiness, which is a great positive message.
I had a big smile on my face reading the last couple of chapters, as the things I wanted to happen did. It’s a lovely, warm-hearted book that I am sure you will love.

I'll just start by putting this out there. I am gutted this is the last in the series!
I thoroughly enjoyed the first twp books in the Ferry Lane series and eagerly awaited this third book, where we were able to catch up with old friends, as well as make some wonderful new ones.
This book centres around Glanna, Isaac and Oliver.
Glanna is a local girl by birth, but she disappeared to London as soon as she was able, wanting to spread her wings. She spreads them a bit too far, and ends up in a downward spiral of drink and high living, which ends up with her in rehab. On the cups of turning forty, with a wonderful relationship over, she heads back home, to her parents, and back to one of her first loves. Art.
Isaac is a local artist. A very famous reclusive artist. And somehow, Glanna ends p making his acquaintance, during a particularly awful storm. Could he be the one to nurse her heart back to happiness? With so many deep, dark secrets in his background, will he be up for romance?
Or is it Oliver, Glanna's one perfect relationship, that soured, as she realised they both wanted different things. Him: marriage and a family. Her: love and a happy life, just the two of them.
The wonderful cast of colourful characters that accompany Glanna on her own journey of self-discovery, are a delight in themselves, with her father, and his rather brash new girlfriend, and her posh mother, who is always chasing the younger man. Not forgetting Banksy, Glanna's gorgeous whippet! And we get to hear all about how marriage and motherhood are treating all the favourites from the past two books.
This was a wonderful read that I devoured in a day!
Many thanks to NetGalley and Hodder & Stoughton for an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

This is the 3rd, and last 😢, in the Ferry Lane Market series, and it's an utter joy!! It is always lovely to connect back with some favourite old characters, but also get to learn more about newer characters and in this book we follow the story of Glanna as she approaches her 40th birthday.

It is making her look back over her life and she's had a lot to overcome but has come out the other end with a wonderful career running the local Gallery and giving local artists a place to exhibit their art. And she's always looking for new ways to get creative - what could be more creative than running some life drawing classes!! That gets the locals talking... and some eager to take part!!

I loved how this book looked at a character who is under pressure to 'conform'... meet someone, settle down... but that's just not her thing. In the reclusive artist, Isaac, who lives locally she connects with someone who has opted out of society to protect himself and his family, and it was wonderful to see how well they shared time and found it so easy to open up to one another. Finding someone to open up to brings huge relief to them and allows them both to feel more content with their lives and decisions made. They figured out that doing what is right for you, and not right for others, is their key to happiness!

This story allows the different aspects of love to be explored, and that it can be found in many different ways other than those that society demands or expects. The characters are always so well created and easy to relate to, and with the wonderful community around them it just makes for such a delightful read!

3.5 STARS

Read in one sitting- I wanted something light and distracting. This isn't as light as the cover may suggest- our main character Glanna is a recovering addict and I thought those topics were covered with sensitivity. It was also refreshing to read a female main character who is so open and outspoken about not wanting children- very refreshing.
I felt like the 'love' part of the story was a bit rushed and this was more about Glanna growing as a person, as a human than just a romance novel.

Ferry Lane Market is a memorable setting, and the author brings it to life with its relatable characters and detailed description. Glanna's journey of self-realisation is believably poignant. Her battle with addiction and her lack of self despite her material wealth resonates. Old friends from the market reappear, sharing their life events, and there are plenty of humorous interludes.

I enjoyed getting to know the Ferry Lane Market community, who are standout characters. This book is most notable for its lovely friendships and the element of forgiveness it portrays. A perfect summer read set in a picturesque coastal location, immersive and uplifting.

I received a copy of this book from the publisher via NetGalley.

Another hit from Author Nicola May.
We follow Glanna through her life’s journey after she comes back home and is trying to change her life for the better. We go through her ups and downs in her life while she’s has to deal with some people from her past and present. I believe this is the last book in this series and the author did a great job ending the story of Ferry Lane Market. This is one of those book you want to sit and wrap your self in a blanket and get cozy and enjoy the story.
This can be read as a standalone for sure however if you have read the previous books I highly recommend reading this to finish out the story.

This review was originally posted on Star Crossed Reviews I received this book for free from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review. Thank you to Rachel for letting me take part in this tour and to Hodder for my copy of this book via Netgalley. this is the third and final book in the series. I really love these characters and will really miss them.

This book focuses on Glanna, Issac and Oliver. All of these characters are new to the series. I really liked Glanna, I really felt for her trying to justify why she didn't want children. This is a long going issue for every woman. If you don't have children by the time you are 30 everyone asks if/when you are having children. I find this extremely frustrating and intrusive.

Nicola does such an excellent job of creating Ferry Lane. It's so easy to visualise the market, Franks, Moniques, the Gallery the whole little town of Hartmouth. This is such a lovely town with some very interesting and unique characters. I really enjoyed catching up with the characters from the previous books. I was so excited to see the little ones with the Dillon/moon babies and the Bligh/Murray baby. These little ones are super cute and I just love seeing the new generations.

this book was a lovely little escape from the world. I loved being immersed in it and I will really miss this series. I do look forward to seeing what new series Nicola brings for us.

Ferry Lane Market in Cornwall is a community with its fair share of characters, some of whom have featured in the first two books in this series by the talented Nicola May. This third book could be read as a standalone novel; the main protagonists have their own stories, and previous characters appear more on the edge of the narrative. Having said that, this is a well populated novel with a strong story and well established main characters who each face their own challenges. A contemporary story, it reveals a lot of understanding of the world of art in terms of painting. It has some interesting character combinations, some wicked humour as well as amusing dialogue which reveals so much about the characters. Glanna Pascoe’s story is a fantastic blend of a woman who has tried to have it all, had all sorts of adventures, but has now realised that at thirty nine she is effectively alone. Her parents, both well depicted in their own ways, are not together - not that they ever have been officially, but Glanna is now struggling to cope with her demanding mother. While she runs a successful small gallery, and has time and space to pursue her own painting, she is often alone, and her therapist can only advise her against the background of her somewhat guilty past. I found this an enjoyable novel with some moving moments as Glanna encounters some new people with unexpected traits, as well as wishing to reconnect with others. I was pleased to have the opportunity to read and review this well written book.

As the book opens, Glanna is having one of her normally difficult conversations with her mother, Penelope Pascoe, who is very wealthy and accordingly demanding. Her mother cannot understand her only child, who is turning down a fortieth birthday party with a suitable roster of guests. In fact she struggles to understand Glanna at all; she has subsidised her daughter’s lifestyle of travelling, university and a destructive taste for alcoholic binges. Galena is aware that her previous choices have not been good; her one good relationship with art teacher Oliver which began when she was in rehab was in some senses thrown away when he wanted children and she became unhappy at the idea. Now Glanna is sober and living alone over the gallery which was leased for her by her mother, as she seeks help from concerned therapist Myles. She has a friend in Kara, and is taking photographs of her upcoming wedding, but she is not really close to anyone except her father Fred Gribble, carpenter and master of many skills, but not sufficiently grand enough for her mother. Nevertheless, Fred has lived at the lodge on Penelope’s estate for decades, and the two see each other as he works to maintain everything from the swimming pool to the horses. He has now decided to try for an independent romance, but Glanna struggles with her father’s choice. Glanna’s other significant other is Banksy, a rescue whippet, who she enjoys walking. It is when she is walking him she encounters Isaac Benson, a very famous local artist who is known as a determined recluse. Keen to distract herself from thoughts of Isaac and indeed Oliver, Glanna decides to start an art group with a startling life class element, and discovers that teaching the painting that she loves is not so easy. As various challenges emerge, Glanna has to wonder who she can trust, and wonder if she will ever make up for past misdeeds.

This is a sensitively written book which makes for an interesting read. It reveals so much about the characters, some elements being completely unexpected. I recommend it as a good read about some of the aspects of women’s lives in the twenty-first century, and indeed the series for a good selection of views of a contemporary community.

Book Review “Rainbows End in Ferry Lane Market” by Nicola May
APRIL 28, 2022 ~ NIKIPRESTON ~ EDIT

SYNOPSIS?BOOK BLURB

Rainbows End in Ferry Lane Market

Book Three in bestselling sensation Nicola May’s gorgeous new series – catch up with Book One, WELCOME TO FERRY LANE MARKET, and Book Two, STARRY SKIES IN FERRY LANE MARKET, now!

39-year-old Glanna Pascoe – also known as ‘the Rainbow Painter’ – runs the Hartmouth Gallery in Ferry Lane Market in Cornwall. She is just getting her head and broken heart around being single, childless, and sober when Cupid flies in, shooting arrows all over the place.

Meeting the mysterious and fascinating Isaac Benson, famous local artist, and recluse, allows Glanna’s disillusioned heart and attitude to soften, and she begins to learn more about herself than she ever thought possible. Confused by her growing feelings for Isaac, Glanna throws herself into organising a life-drawing class at her gallery, using both male and female nudes – and setting local tongues wagging.

A theft from her gallery and the return of ex-love Oliver Trueman cause Glanna to wonder if a pot of gold will be appearing at the end of her rainbow. And will it bring her the happiness, she has sought for so long?

REVIEW ~ NIKI PRESTON ~ 5 STARS

A true piece of escapism. A book to indulge yourself with, full of fabulous characters with lives that just make you want to up sticks and move. I adored Glanna, she has flaws and more flaws yet she is trying incredibly hard to put things right and just be a great business woman who is no longer a huge drinker, racing about having sex with practically everyone she sees. I loved her openness and honesty. A beautiful character who is one of those people you’d like to be friends with.

This book, the second I have read by Nicola May does not disappoint, it just captivates you in a lovely warm hug kind of way. There are plenty of laughs along the way. The humour is brilliant and I found myself laughing out loud at times. I thoroughly enjoyed the journey of Glanna’s developing relationships, especially Isaac. A very closed off and private man who she manages to help in more ways than he could ever have imagined.

All in all a wonderfully enjoyable read that takes you on a wonderous journey through art galleries, stolen pictures, love, unrequited love, strong friendships and so much more. A definite cosy read that you can just get lost in. I loved it immensely.

Rainbows End in Ferry Lane Market by Nicola May is a heartwarming treat from one of the bestselling authors.

Glanna Pascoe, aka the Rainbow Painter, is fast approaching forty. She runs a little art gallery in Ferry Lane Market in Cornwall, which is called Hartmouth Gallery. Until recently she lived without any responsibilities, partying and enjoying a carefree life.

The descending spiral of alcohol-fuelled existence ends up with a much-needed stop-off at the rehab, after which Glanna moves back home from London, to live close to her parents. That's when she opens the gallery and starts to pursue her artistic career in earnest.

Glanna is still nursing her broken heart. Two years previously after a drink-fuelled ONS, she leaves her partner. Oliver is considerate and caring, but he wants a stability and a family, which Glanna cannot commit to. She is not a maternal type, and children are not on her agenda. They want different things in life. Just because she is approaching forty, and everyone around seems to be having babies, Glanna doesn't want to conform.

Once installed in her little apartment above the gallery, with her whippet Banksy, Glanna feels like something is missing from her life. Pining after Oliver seems pointless.

There is another man who catches her eye, an elusive Cornish artist, "the one, the only, and the extremely talented and very mysterious, Mr Isaac Lowen Benson".. To protect himself, he prefers the life of a recluse. Glanna and Isaac find that they are soulmates, who can share their inner thoughts and aspirations. Her feelings for Isaac are growing.

She starts a new initiative based in her art gallery, a life-drawing class, with nude models, which will make the locals clasp their pearls.

Events are happening in a rapid succession for Glanna: there is a theft from the gallery, and her ex re-appears in her life, her parents' complicated relationship is reaching a nadir.

Now that Glanna is sober and committed to her art, will she be able to forgive herself and find romance again? Will she find that elusive pot of happiness at the end of the rainbow?

There is a whole set of supporting secondary characters, from Glanna's colourful snobbish mother who sees herself as the local Lady Chatterley to her loyal and caring father who after years of being single is tentatively entering the dating scene again, from Glanna's new friend Jen who is torn between London and Cornwall, to mischievous Banksy in its colourful sparkly collar.

Alongside the main romance plotline, I enjoyed the story of the reclusive artist the best. The descriptions of his cottage, the studio and the amazing sea views are evocative and emotive. Though his sister, Lizzie, appears only through Isaac's narrative, you can't but feel moved by her story.

What I didn't enjoy much is the crude sex jokes throughout the book. I have been to the live drawing classes, and have never encountered such a salacious banter, which is totally unprofessional.

Rainbows End in Ferry Lane Market is a warm and witty story, with a real feel-good factor, with some giggles and even a few raised eyebrows. This is an endearing tale of love and friendship. Perfect for a long summer's day.

Glanna is the owner of Hartmouth Gallery in Ferry Lane Market and is an artist herself. In Hartmouth Gallery you’ll find pictures created by other artist but Glanna too. Glanna found herself the owner of the Gallery after she sabotaged her relationship with her long term boyfriend Oliver because he wanted to have children and she didn’t. However, Glanna does like children but doesn’t understand the reason why she doesn’t want children of her own and has mixed feelings on the subject. When an artist that Glanna is meant to collaborate with lets her down her path crosses with the famous and mysterious artist Isaac Benson. When a painting that Isaac lends Glanna for the Gallery goes missing and fate brings Oliver back into Glanna’s life again, Glanna is forced to take stock of her life and some difficult subjects.

There’s something about the Ferry Lane Market series that I truly love. Like the other books in the series I loved the storyline. It was absorbing, heart-warming with relatable characters at the heart of the story. So to know that this was the last book in the trilogy made me a little sad as I would have happily carried on reading books in this series until the end of time. The Ferry Lane Market series has definitely become a comfort read for me and a place I look forward to visiting with the turn of each page.

It was nice to meet a completely new character in Glanna but also to catch up with established characters that have already appeared in Ferry Lane Market. One of my favourite things about Glanna is the fact that she’s just obsessed with rainbows because I am too. Every time she sees a rainbow she’d take a picture of it on her phone and then would try and replicate/incorporate it into her art. What I also liked about Glanna as a character is that she doesn’t try to be perfect. She owns her flaws and learns from her past. She’s not had it easy even though she comes from quite a privileged background. She’s made some big mistakes, some of which were very serious and had issues with alcohol but she’s overcome these. So although Glanna sees her mistakes as character flaws and that she’s wasted her life because of alcohol and a misspent youth it’s those same things that are her strength and make her into the person she is today.

Although this is a story about Glanna finding herself there is also a second chance romance storyline running parallel to the main storyline. As soon as I was introduced to Oliver, how he met Glanna and their interactions it was clear that they were meant to be together. The only subject that tore them apart is the subject of children. The more Glanna explores the reason for not wanting children she finds herself on a journey questioning the reason behind her decision but also that it is tied to her own relationship with her mother.

The Ferry Lane Market series is a trilogy that I would highly recommend and is one of my favourite series. The books can be read as standalones but I would recommend reading all the books because it’s hard not to fall in love with Ferry Lane Market and its inhabitants.

Nicola May’s Rainbows End in Ferry Lane Market is an enchanting and uplifting romantic treat that gladdens the heart and touches the soul.

Glanna Pascoe runs the Falmouth Gallery in Ferry Lane Market in Cornwall. Known as the ‘Rainbow Painter’, thirty-nine year old Glanna has had her fair share of heartache and disappointments lately. Resigned to being single and childless, Glanna thinks that her art is all she’s got in the world, but she should by know to always expect the unexpected at Ferry Lane Market and that cupid can strike when you least expect him to and in the most surprising and unexpected of ways…

When Glanna unexpectedly crosses paths with famous local artist Isaac Benson, sparks immediately begin to fly between the two of them. The more Glanna gets to know Isaac, the more her barriers begin to come down and she starts to learn more about herself, her strengths and her abilities. Meeting Isaac has provided Glanna with the second chance she had been hoping for, but is a future between the two of them at all possible when there are so many obstacles standing in their way?

Throwing herself into a life-drawing event at her gallery certainly gets tongues wagging and Glanna has her hands full as she finds herself also having to contend with somebody stealing from her and the return of her ex-partner, Tom. With so much on her plate, will Glanna ever find the happiness she had long given up on? At Ferry Lane Market, anything is possible…

Nicola May’s Ferry Lane Market books are absolutely magical. Full of hope, warmth and humour, these heartwarming tales never fail to hit the spot and that is certainly the case with the latest title in the series, Rainbows End in Ferry Lane Market. A spellbinding, romantic and feel-good tale about second chances, unexpected blessings and healing from old wounds set in beautiful Cornwall, Rainbows End in Ferry Lane Market is full of characters readers will love whose trials and tribulations are sure to keep them avidly turning the pages.

A gorgeous romantic read that is hard to resist, top-notch escapism does not get any better than Nicola May’s Rainbows End in Ferry Lane Market.

I voluntarily read and reviewed an Advanced Reader Copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Aah so happy to have returned to Ferry Lane Market. I just love this setting with its small shops and rich characters. I read this in a day.

Some of the characters from previous books do of course appear, but this story is all about Glanna. Born in the area but left for the excitement of London, only to end up in rehab. Whilst there she meets the love of her life, Oliver, but they want different things out of life so she walks out of the relationship. Now on the brink of her 40th birthday, Glanna has returned to her roots and now runs an art gallery selling, amongst local artists work, her own rainbow themed art. She is known as the Rainbow Artist as a rainbow features in every one of her pieces. Although she is loving the gallery, her thoughts keep returning to her lost love and the life she feels she has wasted. It doesn’t help that her mother is disappointed she isn’t in a relationship yet.

Then on a rainy day, on a dangerous cliff, she is rescued by reclusive local artist Isaac Benson and taken into his secret cliff edge painting studio near his house on the cliffs. This is a man Glanna has idolised for many years and she can’t believe her luck to finally meet him. Dare she ask him if he will let her exhibit one of his paintings in her studio?

Will there be romance or will Oliver always be her one true love?

We follow Glanna through some funny and some heartbreaking situations (get the tissues ready).

I just loved her mum and dad - mother is rich and brusque and father is caring and is her estate worker but they never married, although they are secretly besotted with each other. When her dad starts a relationship with a sex mad middle aged woman from the coffee shop her mum realises she really loved him but worries she has lost him.

A fabulous feel good read and I highly recommend the whole series.

Many thanks to Hodder and Stoughton for an advance copy of the book via NetGalley.

Just back from my third visit at Ferry Lane market and it’s becoming my favourite place to go.
In book one of the series we met Kara Moon and followed her on her adventures.
Book two followed Star Bligh and her life changing news which was followed by drama.
And then we get to book 3 - Rainbows End At Ferry Lane Market 🥰🥰🥰
As with the previous 2 books the author has written yet another perspective from this small town filled with interesting characters. I was super excited when it dropped through my letterbox and w ripped open the packaging!
In this book we meet another character - Glenna Pascoe who is a painter living in Ferry Lane. Her story is a bumpy one and is super addictive you won’t be able to put it down!
I absolutely LOVE the way that Nicola has introduced us to the varying characters in this small village who all have very different lives but all appear close.
Rainbows end was a treat to read, obviously containing some low moments but the highs are so high it makes your heart burst.
The author has such an easy style of writing but goes into all the small details that you can almost imagine yourself there!
I really, truly cannot wait to see what comes next for the residents and visitors of Ferry Lane Market.
All of these books are available…click the link in my bio to be taken to the shop. Don’t miss out xx

Rainbows End in Ferry Lane Market by Nicola May
Book 3 in The Ferry Lane Series
39-year-old Glanna Pascoe - also known as 'the Rainbow Painter' - runs the Hartmouth Gallery in Ferry Lane Market in Cornwall. She is just getting her head and broken heart around being single, childless, and sober when Cupid flies in, shooting arrows everywhere.
Meeting the mysterious and fascinating Isaac Benson, a famous local artist and hermit, allows Glanna's disillusioned heart and attitude to soften. She begins to learn more about herself than she ever thought possible. But, confused by her growing feelings for Isaac, Glanna throws herself into organising a life-drawing class at her gallery, using male and female nudes - and setting local tongues wagging.
A theft from her gallery and the return of ex-love Oliver Trueman cause Glanna to wonder if a pot of gold will appear at the end of her rainbow. And will it bring her the happiness she has sought for so long?
If you enjoy reading about the residents of a community, following them through their ups and downs, daily reality, anxiety, love, and laughter, you will love this series.
I have read the previous two instalments of the series, and although this can be read as a standalone, I would personally read books one and two for optimum enjoyment as new and old characters entwine whilst they meander around Ferry Lane Market.
Catch up with Book One, Welcome To Ferry Lane Market, and Book Two, Starry Skies in Ferry Lane Market.
