OUR STORY A beat-up old car, a few dollars in the pocket and a sense of adventure. In 1972 that’s all Tony and Maureen Wheeler needed for the trip of a lifetime – across Europe and Asia overland to Australia. It took several months, and at the end – broke but inspired – they sat at their kitchen table writing and stapling together their first travel guide, Across Asia on the Cheap. Within a week they’d sold 1500 copies and Lonely Planet was born. One hundred million guidebooks later, Lonely Planet is the world’s leading travel guide publisher with content to almost every destination on the planet.
What an awesome book! and this is free, i´m amazed. I love everything ancient, so this is the perfect book for me. I would like to go to Britain for a few months and go to all that places. This is the absolute collection! Of course there cannot be everything, I at least know that in Wales is much more to see, many more castles and for example the slate works. But still this would make every history interested person weep in joy. There is a short history in the beginning and then tipps for every region of england, wales and scotland. It could not get better!
A short book that covers a couple of the famous historical places in Britain. A few pictures. More of a inspirational book that makes you search elswere for more info and pictures
A short introduction to the historic landmarks included in the Great Britain edition. Skips Ireland altogether. If you want more detailed things such as accommodation, don't bother. If you already have the UK guidebook, it's all included in there, but might be easier to find things if you're really into your history. Not bad for free!
Nice (free) travel guide for some of the more spectacular sights in Merry Olde Britain. Encompasses England as well as Scotland, Ireland, Wales and the Orkneys. Would be a must if you had the $ and time to travel all over the country in one visit.
I'm not usually a 'guide book' kind of traveler but Lonely Planet is a good mix of typical tourist sites and more off the beaten path stuff. I like that they have narrowed it down into genres like 'historical experiences'. There is a lot of highlighting going on!
