The Bitches of Fifth Avenue series returns with Book Two, Cutthroat Couture After Olivia Wyatt’s ultra-privileged life in DC ended in spectacular disaster, Olivia's second act has all the markings of success. She successfully climbed the ladder at the exclusive Harper James department store all the way to the notorious fifth floor—home to the personal shopping salon. When it comes to keeping the most coveted clients in New York and beyond happy, the stakes and stilettos are higher than ever. Olivia can tackle any shopping demand—from the outrageous to the obscure—but mastering the art of out-maneuvering her mean-girl co-workers was not a skill she had planned on needing. The private school dinner party moms of her past were nothing compared to her colleagues on the personal shopping floor. Determined not to be derailed, Olivia resolves to tackle each backstabbing, manipulating shopgirl one by one, build her exclusive list of clients and create a better life for herself and her teenage daughter Gwynnie. Packed with all of the glamour and fun that defined the series debut, Champagne at Seven!, Cutthroat Couture takes readers deeper into the secretive world of the ultra-rich and ultra-fashionable, with heartfelt and often hilarious results.

B*tches of Fifth Avenue Series by Toni Glickman

Tropes: fish out of water, midlife crisis, different worlds, underdog

Olivia Wyatt is a middle-aged woman married to a high-profile political campaigner and lives in Georgetown in D.C. She spends her days shopping and organizing social events, but has been wondering if her life lacks substance.

After a scandal involving her husband is brought to light, Olivia loses everything. She is forced to move herself and her daughter back to New York City to live with her mother while she tries to rebuild their lives. Her mother reveals that she unfortunately cannot support all three of them indefinitely, so Olivia will need to get a job.

She worked in high-end retail and personal shopping in college, so she tries to return to that field. It’s an uphill battle but Olivia hopes she can start at the bottom and work upwards.

This series is based around Olivia working her way up through a high-end department store, where the other employees are incredibly catty (in general, and also more so towards Olivia because she’s older).

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
This was an interesting series (still being published). The author actually is a former retail executive, so she has an interesting and genuine take on the industry. I definitely think it was fun to see how the “other half” lives, as well as the ins and outs of the high-end retail industry.
The pace of the first book is super slow. The incident that caused Olivia’s life to change doesn’t even happen until 1/3 of the way into the book. Some of the details about Olivia’s life and backstory don’t make sense or aren’t revealed until the second book (like how she met her husband).
There is a lot of brand and name dropping in this series, which I think fits the vibe it’s going for, but it does make it feel very exclusionary to anyone reading who is not in that industry.
This is so minor but I have to mention it because it irked me, but the slang that her daughter uses (15 years old) is definitely not correct Gen-Z slang. She was using “slang”, for sure, but it definitely wasn’t current. It felt very weird and out of place.
I will say that I enjoyed the second book a lot more than the first, and it was actually pretty captivating. I like the author’s writing style in general, but the first book was a bit rocky. The concept is cool, and I’d definitely be down to check out the rest of the books in the series as they’re published.
Cutthroat Couture by Toni Glickman is a hilarious satire on the fashion industry, the book follows the continued story of Olivia Wyatt which is even more entertaining and enthralling! The Author's witty and irreverent writing style is sure to keep readers laughing throughout the book!
Cutthroat Couture is a satirical look at the world of the ultra-rich and fashionable, complete with humor, heart, and drama in the most perfect way!
.
Glickman takes aim at the fashion industry's obsession with image and status, and pokes fun at the ridiculousness of some of the industry's practices! The characters in the book are outrageous and over-the-top, but also strangely relatable. The plot is fast-paced and full of unexpected twists and turns, making it a real page-turner. It's a world where alliances are constantly shifting, and no one can be trusted. And while it's all done tongue-in-cheek, there's still a sense of drama and tension that keeps you on the edge of your seat.
.
The Author Toni Glickman is a master at painting a vivid picture of the luxurious lifestyle of the ultra rich. The author infuses humor into every page, with witty one-liners and hilarious scenarios that will make you chuckle. From fashion faux-pas to cringe-worthy moments, the book has it all. Whether you're in the mood for a light read or just need a good laugh, this book delivers. Overall, "Cutthroat Couture" is a hilarious and entertaining read that is sure to appeal to anyone looking for a good laugh and a bit of satire on the fashion industry.
Cutthroat Couture is a witty, hilarious, snarky, fun, vibrant, entertaining, unique, and delightful book! This is the second book in the B****** Of Fifth Avenue series which should be read in order. Champagne At Seven is the first book and I highly recommend picking both of these up immediately if you enjoy comical women's fiction. This series is unlike anything I have ever read before......and I'm obsessed! Comparable to the movie mean girls this series brings the drama, hilariously written inner thoughts, a complex social hierarchy, and relatable emotional breakdowns.
Olivia has risen from the ashes of the disaster of her former life and built a new one. She has climbed the ranks with grit, determination, and plenty of mental break downs. Now she has opportunity to work at an exclusive high end department store on the coveted fifth floor as a personal shopper. Working alongside the most manipulate, nasty, and backstabbing colleagues was not a part of Olivia's plan. Between learning to play the game of high end personal shopping and some unexpected news related to the department store as a whole, Olivia has much to overcome. She may cuss, cry, and have a breakdown along the way, but Olivia Wyatt always finds a way rise above the ashes.
I LOVE this series!! The ending was such a cliff hanger. I cannot wait until the third book is released. I highly recommend this series!
