Charles Haddon Spurgeon (1834-1892) was England's best-known preacher for most of the second half of the nineteenth century. In 1854, just four years after his conversion, Spurgeon, then only 20, became pastor of London's famed New Park Street Church (formerly pastored by the famous Baptist theologian, John Gill). The congregation quickly outgrew their building, moved to Exeter Hall, then to Surrey Music Hall. In these venues, Spurgeon frequently preached to audiences numbering more than 10,000—all in the days before electronic amplification. In 1861, the congregation moved permanently to the newly constructed Metropolitan Tabernacle.

This book is filled with about 100 excerpts from sermons of Charles Spurgeon, a prolific English preacher from the 19th century. I have been using this as a daily devotional reading (although not exactly daily). Reading pieces of his sermons shows me that he was truly called by God to preach. To God be the glory.

There are multiple occasions where the publisher puts a Bible verse at the top of the page that does not appear to be used in the excerpt whereas other verses are. I also would preferred for the publisher to indicate what verse was being used by Spurgeon. For the verses
read or paraphrased, they could have simply put the Book/Chapter/Verse in brackets to indicate that this note was added by the publisher. This was rather frustrating.
