Vivian thinks she’s settled into a normal-ish life with her boyfriend, Quin…until the powers she inherited six months ago start having side effects. She dreams of graveyards. Plants wither under her touch. And a visitor from the past crosses the threshold of the afterlife to give her an accept her gift, control the balance between life and death, or risk losing that control forever.

When a vision of a young girl’s murder brings death to Vivian’s doorstep, she uncovers a mysterious Council member’s trail of killings. The Council demands an appearance, and her summons from the supernatural government can’t be a coincidence.

To stop the killer, she has to face her own darkness and choose between seeking redemption and running from the past, but will the cost of embracing her magic tear her and Quin apart?

Haven Price has quickly become one of my new favorite "romantasy" authors—yes, that hot blend of fantasy and romance that’s taking the literary world by storm. Her books strike a perfect balance between engaging romantic fantasy and high stakes, all without veering into the overly grim.

Challenged Magic, the second book in her series, continues the journey of Vivian and her extraordinary magical powers. Vivian’s abilities are highly coveted, making her a target, but all she wants is a normal life with her dream man, Quin. Amidst the chaos, she faces conflicts with her sister about whether to pursue a relationship with their estranged father, adding more drama and depth to the story.

This book is a thrilling read that kept me hooked in one night—though fair warning, it does feature some steamy, R-rated scenes. If you enjoy paranormal and urban fantasy with a generous splash of romance, this series is a must-read. While Haven Price provides enough context to follow along, starting with the first book will enhance your experience of this delightful and fast-paced series.

Five out of five stars.

I received this book for free from the author, Haven Price, in exchange for an honest review.

“I had been a monster once, and I would make myself one again if it would save her.”

3.5⭐️ This book is really well written and the plot is still unique and pretty solid like it was in Book 1. But towards the middle Vivian was annoying me. I would have liked to see more character growth from her personally. I liked how you got some references and a bit more flashbacks that touched on some things that happened in Book 1. I would definitely read a book on Lucy’s POV as well. The book ends on a little twist cliffhanger and I would be interested to see where this story goes.

I did receive an ARC in exchange for an honest review!

This book was exciting. I enjoyed the urban world that was created, I liked the supernatural hierarchy and the magic system. It was definitely interesting and kept my attention!

It was also a romance, though, and the spice was there. My biggest warning would be about the cliffhanger! Just be ready for it!!

“Don’t kill anyone. I love you,” he said, and hung up before I had a chance to say it back.”

challenged magic follows Vivian Foxworthy in the second book of the Vivian Foxworthy series where she returns to a “normal life” after becoming guardian of a special tree and follows a corrupt government secret found from the powers granted by the guardianship. this has twists and turns romantically while her sister brings in a PI to locate their father.

challenged magic was a easy, fun, and interesting read. i throughly enjoyed the twists and each character had their own unique additive to them. the romance was there, it had its ✨spice✨ and the perfect amount of emotional damage in it. the cliffhanger made me want to read the next book immediately, so all in all, it was a great read. 🥰

Thank you to Haven Price for the e-arc opportunity. This review is of my own opinions. No spoilers.

Challenged Magic follows the events from Darkened Magic and we get to witness the aftermath of Vivian facing Seth and how she tries to deal with her new found powers.

What I enjoyed about this book is that the author gives a better picture of Vivian's world, magic system, and how the humans and magical creatures interact with each other.

It was interesting to see Vivian's inner-turmoil with staying true to herself and what she wants. I thought she was able to do that in the end. Speaking of the end, I need to the next book immediately because I kind of had a feeling that this was going to play out like it did and I need to know if I got all of it correct! I. NEED. TO. KNOW.

ARC review! This is part two of the Vivian Foxworthy series and you must read the first to connect everything. I didn’t think I would enjoy this one as much as the first, but I loved it even more! Vivian was a bit insufferable at times but I think that’s a part of her journey of self-growth we will see come full circle in the next installment (s?)

THAT cliffhanger though!!! I loved the introduction of so many new characters but especially Adrian. He just gets Vivian. Am I sensing enemies to lovers?! I also love the relationship between Lucy and Vivian and hope to see more of that!

Definitely recommend giving this series a try.

🩵🖤 Challenged Magic ARC Review 🖤🩵

Thank you so much to Haven Price for the opportunity to read and review this book!

Challenged Magic is a paranormal urban fantasy and book two in The Vivian Foxworthy series. This book picks up a few months after the end of Darkened Magic, book one, and I’m going to keep this as vague as possible to avoid spoilers. Vivian and Quin have fallen into a new routine in their relationship after their adventures in book one. Everything should be great, but Vivian finds herself plagued with nightmares. Because she knows how powerful dreams can be, she feels like this is just the beginning of something much bigger

This book was a fun read, but definitely a little heavier than the first book in the series. Vivian is struggling with her new magic, the events that happened in the first book and has some unhealthy coping mechanisms already. Quin also seemed a little different from his personality in the first book and I’m still not sure if I like the changes or not - which I think is exactly what the author intended me to feel. I’m hoping for a lot of growth and character development in the next books because the setup in this book is definitely there!

Overall this was a fun 4 star read for me and a great follow up to the first book in the series. This is a fun magical world with engaging characters and I’m excited to see where this series goes in the future! This book definitely brought the spice early on, but then the plot took over a little bit, which is okay because it totally fit the book - so two flames for spice

If you’re a fan of urban fantasy with strong characters, possessive men, and engaging magic systems, then absolutely pick up this series!! As there is an overarching storyline, I definitely recommend reading the series in order.

🍊Challenged Magic 🍊

Challenged Magic is book two of the Vivian Foxworthy Series by Haven Price. 📙

It’s a great short story full of magical mysteries and murder!
Viv is a snarky witch who hasn’t had an easy path in life. She is an ultimate morally grey FMC seeking redemption but isn’t going to let anyone walk all over her or use her & her bad bitch powers! 💥

There’s so much going on in the story that you just want to unpick the subplot stories have you constantly guessing and mind boggling! 🧐

I need to know more information about Vivs Dad, the council, Adrian and I’ve just got a feeling that things aren’t going to go well with Quinn, my spidey senses are going off! 🕵️‍♀️

I cannot wait for the next book to see how things unfold.

Vivian is back in action and now getting dreamlike premonitions of girls being murdered across the city, her powers are changing because of the tree she guards, and her relationship with Quin seems to always be a step away from crumbling. As she delves further into the mystery of the girls murders she's summoned by the council, visited by the previous tree guardian, and has her walked away and never looked back father trying to make contact. It's chaotic, messy, and totally Vivian. A good read, though I have zero problems with saying that I was disappointed in both Vivian and Quin as far as their relationship goes. Demands never work and it made Quin seem a little petty and Vivian seem more like a taker not a true partner.

This is the second book in the series and whilst both books see a resolution to the main story, they both end in a cliffhanger.

Vivian and Quin have moved in together and are trying the "normal life" bit. Quin definitely wants this but Vivian is conflicted. She's been having dreams about death and then a murdered girl. Turns out the council has some shady members. Wanting to make amends for her dark past, Vivian starts to investigate only to be summoned by the council.

Lots of action and plot twists adding in vague references to her father and the introduction of a new main character, Adrian.

Fantastic story, less dark than the first one, although Vivian's inability to let go of her conflict detracted from my enjoyment a little. Looking forward to the next book.

Challenged Magic is the second book in the series and it build off of the first so make sure your read that in order to follow what’s happening. The author has an easy writing style that I really enjoyed. I loved the introduction of Adrian and can see something developing in the next book. Vivian is going through some rough times with her magic, her family, and her relationship with Quin. The author brings the characters to life so you can really feel her turmoil. This book had me turning the pages late into the night and I love all the twists. It ends in a cliffhanger and I am eagerly waiting for the next one!

Sassy Witchy FMC
Dark Magic
Corrupt Magical Government
Murder Mystery

I liked the second part of this story and how Vivian is finding her way with her new powers and responsibilities. I love her push and pull with Quin. In this book you get to really see how much Vivian cares for not only Quin and there relationship. But her sister Lucy and how they are so different but need each other to figure out this mystery. I liked the storyline with The Council and each of the supernatural beings and what role they play in the story. It was suspenseful and magical. If you like a paranormal murder mystery read. This was a good one.

This is the second book in the Vivian foxworthy series. It's quite a story, filled with magic and drama. Vivian's powers are evolving with the tree she guards. Apparently she is to bring about balance in life and death. There is a murder of a young girl and Vivian must the killer. I loved this story. I thought it was well written and unique. I couldn't put this one down. I really thought it was a thrilling and entertaining story.

Challenged Magic is book 2 of The Vivian Foxworthy Series.

This was a fun read for me as I usually do not read much paranormal/fantasy. It had a fun magical world to jump into with a solid plot and spice from the start.

Challenged Magic picks up from book 1, Darkened Magic. It was filled with twists and turns and I was here for ALL of the unpredictability. It did end in a cliffhanger so I am hoping for a 3rd book! I am now a fan of urban fantasy!

The second book in the series and just like the first I read it in 1 day. The books read really easy and you kinda just want to keep reading and not stop at all!
In this book we learn even more about the world and the magic/creatures in it and I really liked that.
There was a lot going on and just like the first book we get a little bit of everything and I love that.
The struggles from the MC are really well written and that ending!! I thought there was going to be more after that whole messy heartbreaking confusing stuff but that's clearly for the next book!

I had to purchase the first so I would know what i was getting into. I am glad I did ao that it made sense. This just wasn't my cup of tea. I kept waiting for the pull, but for whatever reason, I just didn't get there. The writing was fine, there was character development, but if i had to guess, I just didn't connect with the FMC like i have in the past. Maybe i will tey again at a later date and could have a vonpletely different response. We shall see.

*3.5-4 Stars*

This normally doesn't happen, but I think I preferred book one over book two.
Just like Darkened Magic, this book is a solid, well written story, my problem is with the FMC Vivian. At times, I felt she was rather annoying and whiney. She wanted everyone else to sacrifice themselves and what they want for her, but she wouldn't even change slightly. There is a little bit of character development in this book, but it fell slightly flat. I found myself rooting for everyone else and wanted to knock her down a few pegs.
With that being said, I still really enjoyed reading this book and enjoyed reading and diving into the other characters more. Haven Price does a great job keeping her stories on track and doesn't seem to get lost in pointless rambles of information. Nice job.

Redemption

I absolutely enjoyed the lighter and less graphic tone of this sequel, now that she is rid of the Seth darkness. She follows her calling to rescue and naturally everything goes wrong, but she tried and thus I award my points for effort. This tale has lots of twists and turns on the way to Redemption.

Congratulations to Haven Price on a brilliant installment of the Vivian Foxworthy series. Honestly, I think I liked the second book better than the first. Vivian's character has grown and the book seemed fuller and richer than the first, and I loved the first.
Set in the same world, Vivian and Quin are trying to change their future, but the various players are still causing havoc. Vivian still has the Tree duty and the supernatural hierarchy are still acting like sugar high toddlers.
As I do not do spoilers, I will say that this book was funny, some character appearances were unexpected and I adore the clever banter between characters.
Author Price's world is rich, the detail is complete (without being overdone), there are no perfect characters-i.e.: no Blue Fairy here.
I'm always waiting to see what Vivian and her motley (and dynamic) crew do next. I'm really hoping for a book three.

I’m so torn over this book. One the one hand, I love the writing. I was sucked in from the start and it kept my attention easily.

But…I just don’t understand Vivian, and I really don’t like the way this seems to be going, romantically speaking.

Vivian is so conflicted throughout, and I get why she feels like she needs to balance the scales and all that stuff. But I don’t understand her wavering on the personal side of things. One minute she’s all in and the next minute she can’t bear it. Just…her seesawing made ME conflicted about the book.

And Quin, man. I totally get why he wants a normal life. He gave up everything he knows for Vivian and yet she’s given up nothing. So he wants some normalcy. Wife, kids, dog, picket fence. I get it! I mean he maybe needed to cool his jets a little but I understood him way more than I did Vivian.

The bad guy/investigation side of things started off at a great pace but then seemed to escalate and end rather quickly. I feel like it could have been drawn out a little more for full effect.

The whole dad mystery side of things is a nice touch. Very vague, but juuuust enough happening there to keep your interest piqued.

I’m really hopeful that things are going to turn around in the next book and we find out that what’s happened in this book has all been some malevolent magical interference? But I’m not holding my breath.

All in all, great writing, three dimensional characters with many, many flaws, some intrigue and mystery thrown in, with a dark and magical PI kind of vibe to it.

ARC kindly provided in exchange for my honest review.

"He’s always going to disappoint you because he’s never going to accept you..."
I didn't realize I was going to get my heart broken with this book! Haven has the remarkable ability to make a character's pain the reader's pain. Vivian faces a whirlwind of problems with limited solutions. Time is running out quickly, while betrayal digs its way soul deep.

Haven! Haven, come back here! I have tears you need to collect. There's definitely some kind of spell you could use them for.
Y'all. Challenged Magic picks up right into the thick of things after Darkened Magic. We see some familiar names and several new. Secrets are being revealed, and betrayal stings HARD. I can not express how much I loved the fact that nothing is predictable in this book. You think you know someone, but SURPRISE you actually don't. I'm so excited to see where Vivian's story goes from here.

This is book two in the Vivian Foxworthy series. There was a cliffhanger in book 1 so you must read that before reading this so that everything connects and makes sense.

Even though I enjoyed this book, I didn't enjoy it as much as Darkened Magic. This was mainly due to how conflicted Vivian was and how much she was so up and down about things.

Quin is still just wanting a normal life.

We got introduced to a new character, Adrian. I am looking forward to seeing how things progress when the next book comes out.

There is another cliffhanger at the end of this book.

Overall it was a nice quick read, but I was not as invested in Challenged Magic as I had hoped to be.
