Eight centuries of English history are served up by the quirky mind of Roger Hudson, via fascinating explanations, lists, and diagrams. Flitting happily from period to period, you can learn about the royal hounds and huntsmen in 1136, be equipped to discuss siege warfare, or choose a destination for a pilgrimage. The intricacies of the Tudor Court are plotted, the Anglo-Scottish border clans mapped, and the Armada Fleets anatomized.
A wonderful collection of little things that nicely supplement other resources. Lots of handfuls of things that may not be found in other history books, but serve to further flesh out the period in question. I wasn't really entertained, and I'll admit being bored from time to time; however I'll probably return to this book many times.
