Rate this book
Three stories of sensual erotic romance. Three werewolves who feed a wild hunger. Donovan must bring the Pack Alpha home and nothing more. Kelon intends to return to his pack after helping Donovan, but he never counted on the voluptuous distraction of Robin Delaney. She's the one woman who can make him contemplate a choice no werewolf should have to make. Wyatt can't afford to be attracted to the practical, completely human Heather Delaney. OMG, I love the way Sarah McCarty writes her love stories! This book has three, count 'em, three hot, sexy, dominant werewolves.

Donovan, a Protector of the pack. Will he be willing to break Pack law to have the one woman meant for him?

Kelon, a Protector as well. His mate is human...and dying. Can he overcome her fears and her illness?

Wyatt, the new Alpha. He just wants to bring the pack safely to its future, but will he survive all the challenges? Especially once he finds that his mate is human as well?

These werewolves are Alpha hot and Alpha dominant, and they will do whatever they have to in order to protect their women. Don't miss this threefer by Sarah McCarty!!

I started reading this book as if it was an anthology, so I was less than thrilled when I finished the 1st story and there were some unsolved businesses - not only related to the overall story arc but to the H/h's HEA too. Somewhere around the 2nd story, I realized Running Wild was more like a 3-part book instead of a traditional anthology. The 3 short stories were strongly connected and there was a continuous flow tying them together. Each story focused on a different couple working their way to their HEA, but the 1st 2 stories closed with a somewhat "partial" HEA and it was necessary to read the 3rd story to get full closure. That's probably why I thought the 3rd story was the weakest of the bunch, there was no room to develop the couple du jour's relationship and tie all the loose ends at the same time.

Even though this wasn't a traditional anthology, it had the same problems that make me wary of them: there wasn't enough character development to make me care for the H/h and their falling-in-love was too rushed. All the 3 heroes were very alpha, protective, loving, and very similar to each other. One could swap them and never know the difference - that's where a better character development would come in handy. As for the heroines, they were more distinguishable and each had a distinct personality. My favorite was Robin, the heroine in the 2nd story - which happened to be my favorite story too.

As for the love scenes, Ms. McCarty can write some long ones and so she did here, but I found myself skimming through some of them. They just didn't engage my attention, probably because I wasn't feeling too connected to the heroes. That's not good when I'm reading romantica novels.

All things considered, this was only an OK read for me. I miss the author who wrote the 1st 2 books in the Promises series.

This is three stories of extremely alpha werewolves and how they found their mates which happen to be sisters. I really enjoyed this one and if the star system would work right, would have given it a 4.5. The sex was off the charts. I thought the ending was a bit abrupt which why I didn't give it a 5.
Great book!

Sarah McCarty's anthology, Running Wild is a fun, sexy and fascinating look into the Carmichael Pack. Donovan and Kelon are the Pack Protectors and Wyatt is the future Alpha. None of them are looking for mates, and in fact, have pretty much lost hope for finding them. You know what they say, as soon as you stop looking, that's when it finds you. Unfortunately, their mates come into these werewolves' lives at the worst possible moment. For Donovan and Kelon are sworn to defend their Pack and to uphold Pack Law, which denies the existence of human mates and Wyatt is being tested as the future Alpha and any sign of weakness could mean both his and his mate's death. All three werewolves refuse to give in to tradition however and vow to follow their mates into a new future.

Donovan's story starts with him tracking down Wyatt. He needs to get the future Alpha to come home and take over the Pack for his dying father. At a bar he meets Lisa Delaney just as she beats the snot of the guy who hurt her younger sister. Coming to her aid, his wolf recognizes her as his mate. Unsure of how to proceed, he only plans to see her safely home, until he presses her against his truck and starts down a path he can't turn back from. Lisa is a pretty stubborn woman. She accepts Donovan as a werewolf but for right now, can't bear to see him shift. She's been taking care of her sister for so long and when Donovan shows up, she's only too happy to lean on him and use him to help her forget her troubles. Donovan is a pretty dominant wolf and in finding his mate, demands her submission. Apparently the female wolves are submissive to the males so that the male's natural dominance doesn't rear it's ugly head and hurt them. Lisa is human though and finds too much fun in teasing and taunting him. Their bedroom scenes were hot and spicy without being over the top. Donovan was aggressive without being bullying, but when push came to shove, he was a big softy around her. He can't even discipline her in accordance with proper female Pack behavior, even though Lisa wouldn't mind.

Kelon's story starts when he joins his twin brother and his new human mate. Donovan asks for his help in protecting his mate and her sister from the guys Lisa bashed in that bar. Kelon is a pretty lonely wolf who hasn't found his mate yet, so he comes down to help his brother kick butt, never expecting to fall for Lisa's sister, Robin. Unfortunately, Robin is dying from her failing kidney transplant. She doesn't have much time left and so when Kelon steps into her life, she grabs onto her chance to finally know passion. The danger surrounding her and Lisa seems a little more personal and marked than the wounded pride of the guys from the bar. Thinking it better to split the women up, Kelon takes Robin into the mountains for protection. While in their comfy hidey hole, Robin tells Kelon that she's dying, and that she wants a short term affair. He's just found his mate and he doesn't care that she doesn't have a lot of time left. He's just grateful for the time they do have, so he doesn't waste time in marking her and bonding with her. He's determined that whenever she goes, he's going to follow. Kelon and Lisa were a good, well rounded couple. She was accepting of her fate and Kelon didn't waste time arguing with the pros and cons of mating with a human. Both of them got right down to business. Kelon is also a pretty dominant wolf, and even though Robin is fragile and soft, she's no sickly female who shrinks at the sight of an aggressive male. When she disobeys one of Kelon's orders and almost gets herself killed, she demands that he punish her. Her noisy discipline brings about an outraged Lisa, but when she gets a glimpse of her sisters 'discipline' she can only wonder why her mate hasn't 'disciplined' her yet.

Wyatt's story starts with Lisa and Robin's older sister Heather coming for a visit. She stubbornly refuses to believe that her younger sister's boyfriends are werewolves. She denies this all the way until she gets to the Carmichael compound, where Donovan and Kelon head to see how Wyatt is adjusting as the future Alpha. He isn't doing so good. He's constantly being challenged by the men he grew up with and he refuses to kill any of them. He's always been at odds with his father and the Pack tradition and the last thing he needs is to catch the scent of his mate in Heather Delaney. He knows the Pack will never accept her, but he can't stop himself from marking her as his. Heather has always tried to be in control of her life and now having Wyatt take charge is both a welcomed relief and a marked annoyance. Being the future Alpha and dominant to his bones, Wyatt has his hands full in getting Heather to submit to him. When he faces off yet another challenger however, Heather steps in and protects him as no female wolf would do. She faces down the Pack and Wyatt realizes he can never leave her side. He sets out for a new future, and with his mate and closest friends behind him, Wyatt determines new traditions and a safe haven for his Pack.

Laura sent me this book in a box of books that she gave me.

WOW!! 3 great stories about were wolves and them finding their mates. Hot and steamy also but will written. All 3 stories roll right into one another so there is really no break in continuity. That is one thing I really like about this book is all 3 stories interact with one another. Although Kelon's was my favorite.

Thank you Laura for sending this to me!!!

CONTEXT - Sharon and I went into a bookstore a while ago and played a game of who could find the strangest sounding gen x smut book and this was my pick. It’d been marinating in my bookshelf for months and I realized I finally had to bite the bullet and read the werewolf porn. And goddammit I did. Cover to cover. Like a PROFESSIONAL.

Even though I’m 100% not the target audience I still think this book sucks so many cheeks. There are several typos (using the wrong “to,” the wrong “whose,” and quotation marks in the wrong spots), none of the characters are likable, the wolf talk made me uncomfortable, and when one of the heroes almost r*pes his mate it’s played off. Gross! Maybe don’t do that guys! The sex scenes were sure written with care bc they were twice as long as every other chapter with plot. I’m proud of myself for finishing it bc it was like an endurance exercise.

Having said that, I’m not here to kinkshame middle aged women. If you like it you like it. I didn’t, I hated it actually, but you five starers do you🙏🤞

4.5 WILD stars..

This book was in one single word "Lovely" and a li'l bit Wild too. It was one story with three love stories.
They were powerfully erotic, scorching, toe curling, thought provoking, emotional and super-super-hott!!!!

Donovan was wild, Kelon was even wilder and Wyatt was the wildest werewolf I have ever imagined.
And Lisa, Robin and Heather were more than a match for them.

Donovan and Lisa:
 photo image_zpsbb0d1d6c.jpg

Donovan is a Protector and he has come in town to bring his alpha and that's Wyatt back home because the former alpha, Wyatt's father is dying. That's where he meets Lisa, his "soulmate".

“You named your truck?”
He didn’t have to make it sound so illogical. “I’m sure you’ve named a thing or two yourself.”
Donovan looked at her as if he had no idea what she was talking about when everyone knew the first thing a man did name was his penis.
“No, I haven’t.”

Ever seen werewolf accused of being a vampire?? Well here it is..;-)
“What if I don’t want to be a vampire? What if I’d prefer to be a werewolf?”
She studied him. “I think you look more like a vampire.”
For some reason that sent Wyatt into a fit of laughter.
“I’m not a damn vampire,” Donovan growled.”

"You take cream and sugar?”
“Yes to both. Three sugars and a quarter way full of cream.”
He looked at her. “Are you having dessert or coffee?”

"His hard-as-nails, just-as-soon-kill-you-as-look-at -you brother was in love. With the forbidden—a human.”

Lisa opened her mouth to argue. Donovan caught her eye, and Lisa, indomitable, spit-in-the-Devil’s-eye, take-orders-from-no-one Lisa, closed her mouth, clenched her hands, took a breath, and relaxed before letting it out on a sigh”

Robin and Kelon:

 photo image_zps1f66d51d.jpg
Kelon is the twin brother of Donovan and like him he is also a Protector. He arrives in town to protect Lisa and Robin. He finds his mate in Robin, Lisa's sister. But Robin is not well, so this time they will have to fight destiny itself to make their love work.

“Lisa looked between them and frowned. “I thought you said he was your twin?”
“Under that hair and beard, he is.”

“Seelie is an endearment that a wolf gives to the woman who holds his soul. It literally means ‘bound to my soul.’ ”

Wyatt and Heather:

 photo image_zps17b85a4e.jpg
Wyatt is having a hard time fighting off all the challengers for the title of alpha. And he need both his Protectors by his side. And that's when Donovan and Kelon arrive with their mates and one other person, Heather. And she's is Wyatt's mate.

“If her sisters had to take up with lunatics, why couldn’t they have picked ones with less muscle and less of a threat factor? Men”

“Get inside.”
Robin and Lisa went without protest, a miracle in itself. Heather met Kelon’s gaze. “Where were you when they were growing up?”
Kelon scanned the compound. “Searching for them.”

“Wyatt would be hell on wheels in bed. Besides being sexy as all get-out, he’s got that bad-boy, happy-to-show-you-a-good-time aura about him.”

“It may be more than you’re expecting.”
“There’s no way it can be more than I’m expecting because I’m expecting a lot. I want you to brand my ass with your cock. Mark me with you seed, fill me with your come. I don’t care if it hurts. I don’t care if I tear. When it’s over, I just want to know I’m yours.”
yup!! It was that HOTT!!!

 photo 0a135941-ad84-457a-be03-6dc7892af6aa_zps2a6e8e34.jpg

My favorite pair??
Donovan and Lisa, because...
"There are some things that you’re going to have to accept are different for me, Lisa.”
“I’ve got news for you, bud: once you get past the reproductive organs, there’s not that much difference in our anatomy.”

Excellent read! I love shifter books [although there's not a whole lot of shifting going on:]. This is three novella length stories which [quite seamlessly:] make up a novel. Each novella centers on a different [hot!:] were hero and the process of matching him up with his heroine. The three heroines are sisters but each has her own, well-drawn 'feel' to her character. The heroes are the two brothers and a cousin who fall for them. Again, each character is distinctly drawn; no 'open plot and insert alpha hero here' stuff. Though each novella contains it's own plot, the novel has story threads reaching across them all.

What can I say? Tight action, suspense, great characters... Yep, I'm going to be looking for the rest of her stuff!

Currently a stand-alone novel, there is another shifter book coming out in December [Wild Instinct:] I'm not sure how much overlap there will be but it is listed as part of the series on her website.

The plot was good, it was the heroines that spoilt the book for me. I just do not understand why so many authors are writing their heroines to be extremely and overly stubborn and independent even for their own good, I think the authors forget that they are staring in a ROMANCE novel and that they should be there and kind of want to be there!!!!. I absolutely hate hate heroines like this, yet the heros are so well written.

This was not for me, I did not finish the book as Lisa irrated me and I liked Robin(kinda) until her stubborness got to me and then the first few pages into Heathers story and I knew I would not last. I sorry to say but I am not that patient for heroines that for me are TSTL......

I’ve been reading all kind literature steadily for the past 25 years, sometimes 2 books a day.I can say, your heroines are the most rare of romancelandia Ms McCarty .Are you a pen name for someone else? Methinks Virginia Henley's .I swear I'm really curious about it.All of your heroines are
extremely annoying ,too stubborn to live,so immature ,frustratingly irritating and your books always have been climbing onto the Bestsellers lists. WHY?

I enjoy Sarah McCarty's Hell's Eight series. They are one of my guilty pleasures. They're never 5 stars for me, and sometimes they're a bit out there, but I enjoy them anyway. But this I didn't enjoy. The Hell's Eight series takes place in the Old West. Because of that, I'm able to suspend my disbelief easier than I could with this book, which is set in modern times. There's very little character development and the story line seemed thrown together. Sadly, this book just didn't make any sense to me.

I don't remember when I've last enjoyed a were/shape-shifter story as much as I did this collection of three stories about three yummy, hunky, Alpha werewolves meeting their destined mates, three spunky, strong, independent human women.

The conflict lies in the fact werewolves in Ms. McCarthy's world (at least those in the particular pack these three wolfies come from) are forbidden to mate with humans. So you can imagine the surprise when they discover their destined mates are indeed human, and the inner-battle between "honor" and mate these three wage. I loved it.

I also loved all three women. There was touch and go with Lisa and Heather for a while, but their annoying denial was quickly resolved. Whew.

The first story, Donovan established the universe, the lore, the law, introduced both Donovan and the future Alpha of their pack, Wyatt, and the two younger Delaney sisters, Lisa, Donovan's mate, and Robin, who followed Donovan and Lisa's story with the most dramatic of the three. There was heart-break, there were tears, there was hopelessness as she met her mate, Kelon, Donovan's brother, but knew that she couldn't keep him. It all resolved itself in the last story, where Wyatt, the rising Alpha, met his mate in Heather, Lisa and Robin's older, and much more skeptical, sister. This last story was the most "action-packed" with challenges and disputing of the werewolf law, and also the most humorous of the pack, thanks to Heather and her cranky bitchiness.

Don't ask me to name my favorite story, hero or heroine in this collection, because I can't. Each story was touching in its own way, each was special, individual, each was different from the next, and I loved every single minute I spent reading this three-story, one-author anthology.

I have all Sarah McCarty's books on my TBR list and I cannot wait to go back for more.

A highly recommended read from a highly recommended author.

I enjoyed all 3 stories. They are werewolves and human couples.
Story #1 is about Donovan and Lisa he meets her when she is literally kicking a guys behind with a pool stick that had hurt her sister. When he follows her outside to make sure she is okay he realizes that she is his mate.

Story #2 is about Donovan's twin brother Kelon and Lisa sister Robin. When Kelon sees bruises on Robin's face he growls and wants her to tell him about the jerk who did it. She gets dizzy from his domineering way. Her scent tells him she is his mate so he proceeds to cook her a meal.

Story #3 is about Wyatt the Alpha of Donovan and Kelon and Lisa and Robins sister Heather. What a hot little tamale she turns out to be.

I don't even remember how this book crossed my consious, but do know it has been a while and now after reading it I am kicking myself for not reading it sooner!!

The book is split into 3 parts, each one centering on a man who is a werewolf and how he finds his mate, who happens to be one of 3 sisters, the men are a set of twins and their cousin. While there is a slightly longer story arch dealing with one of the men becoming Alpha and what that means, the heart of the stories are the claiming of each mate. All of the couples are very different and their courting/coming together seems to fit them.

If you are a fan of shifter romances with hot sex scenes and the men wo make their women the center of their world make sure to check this book out!!

Bueno bueno bueno.

Donovan - 4.5
Instant recognition of his mate when Lisa comes into the bar and attacks a man who beat her sister. He's a Protector and the mating is forbidden but he doesn't care. Driven to protect and care for his mate. While fast moving it was engaging.
Kelon - 4.5
Kelon came to help his brother and finds his mate. She's being hunted and she's dying but none of it matters as he loves his mate. Some spanking and light dominance games.
Wyatt - 4.5
Heather is the older sister and doesn't believe it when her sisters tell her they mated werewolves. They bring her to the pack where she finds Wyatt in the midst of alpha challenges. I liked these stories and felt they deserved more time. Light dominance games

This book made me happy. I wasn't sure at first that I was going to like it, but I was pleasantly surprised.

Running Wild focuses on three sisters who find love with werewolves. What's cool is the book is separated into three short stories (each story focuses on a different couple) and kind of builds on itself.

For me the first story is the weakest, but starts the strongest. This is a very sexual book, especially the first story. Unlike story 2 and 3 the couple from story 1 has no real pressing issue (yes I know there was the whole Buddy thing, but it didn't feel like a big deal), so their main focus was sex. That's okay, but I wanted more, luckily story 2 and 3 were a bit more satisfying.

Just a warning , each story has pages and pages of foreplay. I've never read so much foreplay before and at times I wished they'd hurry up and finish so the story could move on, at other times I was touched by how gentle and dedicated the men were with their women (and sometimes how dedicated the women were with their men).

So notes:

Donovan

- The first story focuses on Donovan, a werewolf protector (like a policeman but more brutal), and Lisa, a human woman who's feisty. I was concerned with Lisa at first, she started off pretty strong then I read her pov and she came off as really horny and ornery to be ornery, which gets done a lot in these types of books and usually turns me off, but once I got past my instinctive I'm-gonna-hate-this it wasn't as bad as I feared. In fact Lisa wasn't ornery at all, just legitimately (?) feisty.

- The other turn off was the werewolf mythology. I personally hate this idea that werewolves live really long lives, have hugh penises, have one true mate, and are immune to all diseases. But as these are pretty typical werewolf traits these days I'm learning to get over myself and accept that this is the norm now. One thing I did like about this was it wasn't made a big deal, it was mentioned and that was it. Same with the aphrodisiac saliva, sounds worse than it was.

- I liked Donovan, he was so calm and in control, but more than that he was sweet in his intensity to take care of Lisa. He's surprisingly confining in how he treats her, but he's so gentle about it which makes it almost okay. Don't get me wrong, he does some shady stuff , but he's so sweet it makes up for this.

- I love how Lisa deals with the revelation of him being a werewolf, it was refreshing.

- Warning: Anal sex happens.

Kelan

- I love Kelan and Robin. Their relationship was different from Donovan and Lisa. Maybe it's because Robin never fought him so Kelan was less controlled and intense with her, more relaxed and they even laugh together.

- Unlike the first story where it's stated that the sisters love each other but interaction is barely shown, this one shows the love and family ties between Kelan and Donovan. Scenes with them just talking to each other made me happy.

- Robin is dying, and there is no miracle cure (sort of). Due to years of being hospitalized she's awkward around people and I just felt for her. There are references to her past experiences in the hospital and how they shaped her into who she is now. Kelan's reaction to learning about her illness made me want to hug him.

- Where Donovan is calm Kelan is more relaxed/rough, or maybe more in touch with his feelings. He felt romantic and there was a playful wildness about him that made sense since he was the younger brother.

- At times it felt like there was a rhythm to the conversations between Kelan and Robin. Not sure if this was good or bad.

- There was a thrown in villain that while eye rolling led the story where it needed to go.

- Warning: light spanking happens.

Wyatt

- Finally the sister interaction happens.

- I loved Heather. I like how she's older and it shows in how tired and worn she is from raising her younger sisters when she was still a child herself. I understood that she loved her sisters but also felt excluded from their relationship. I'm only 3-4 years younger than my older brothers and sometimes I feel out of place with them, she's 10 years older than her sisters so I can only imagine the age gap plus taking on the role of parent and provider most have affected her relationship with them. And that Lisa and Robin no doubt don't realize Heather feels left out when with them.

- Wyatt and Heather were a lot of fun together and I love them together. Unlike Donovan and Kelan, Wyatt loses control with Heather and (as no one got hurt) it was hot.

- Warning: anal sex happens and a lot of breast play.

I wonder if fleshing these stories out and developing the characters better would have made this more enjoyable, but as it is I liked what I read and am excited to read the next book.

Running Wild is a collection of three interconnected stories about male wolf shifters finding their mates. Let's tackle this story by story, shall we?

Story One: Donovan
Donovan is a pack protector who has been sent on a mission to bring his cousin, the soon to be alpha, back home because the current alpha is dying. Donovan ends up in the town where his cousin is sheriff and in this town Donovan meets Lisa Delaney.

Lisa is a fiesty one. She protects her younger sister Robin and spends the rest of the time being slightly annoying. Lisa was one of those female characters that I kind of want to shake. She was prickly for no good reason. Luckily, she wasn't too annoying and she didn't ruin the story for me. Sarah McCarty gets points for creating a female character I didn't want to maim.

Donovan was you typical alpha male shifter character. Umm...that's really all there is to say about him. There was nothing spectacular or groundbreaking there.

All in all, Donovan and Lisa's story was okay. Not good or great but okay.

Story Two: Kelon
Kelon is Donovan's slightly bitter and cranky twin brother. He's a pack protector too and comes to town to help Donovan protect Lisa and her sister Robin. Guess what. Robin is Kelon's mate.

Robin was way more likeable than Lisa. Robin had a strength about her and she was strong without being harsh. McCarty did good with Robin's character.

Kelon. Kelon is another typical alphal male shifter character. He's basically Donovan with some cooking skills. Having a stock character is slightly better than having a character people want to kick in the face though.

Kelon and Robin's story was also okay. It was better than Donovan and Lisa's. I would say that this second story was the best one in the book.

Story Three: Wyatt
This was Wyatt, the cousin who's soon to be Alpha, and the oldest Delaney sister's, Heather's, story. It takes place when all of the characters end up in the wold pack's compound.

This story was boring. I can't even say much about it because, honestly I've forgotten a lot of what takes place in the story. It was a one star story.

Overall, this collection of stories was mildly enjoyable. I wouldn't exactly recommend the book but I wouldn't tell someone not to read it either.
