JUNE HUNT is founder of Hope for the Heart, a worldwide biblical counseling ministry, and hosts the award-winning radio program by the same name. Her numerous books include Seeing Yourself Through God’s Eyes, Healing the Hurting Heart, Bonding with Your Teen through Boundaries, and Hope for Your Heart.
I understand that June Hunt is a biblical counselor, however, I feel she believes that in order to better your life the only thing you have to do is let go and let God. For a lot of people with anxiety and or control issues giving up control to god is a challenge in and of itself. I would like her books to go a little bit more in depth on step-by-step actions that one can take along side God as opposed to giving up all power to God.
“Unfortunately, people like Dorie walk around with mental images of themselves that are as warped as these distorted mirrors. Over time, their inner mirror has become warped by criticism, disapproval, and pain. Thank God He does not look at us from a warped perspective, but through the eyes of purest love.” June Hunt
This book has significantly changed the way I look at myself and the way I understand that God looks at me. This is precisely what the author wanted. June Hunt is one of my go-to authors when I need direction. Obviously the number one go-to for direction is the Holy Bible and I love that book the most.
This was just a little book I found on our bookshelf... we have an abundance of books that we’ve accumulated from Rob’s days of pastoring - and I’m attempting to get through them all. It talks about how to overcome feelings of low self-worth, and is intertwined with some of the story of Dorie vanStone, a girl who was abandoned by her mother, lived in an orphanage, foster homes, and eventually found her way to God. Doris ended up being a missionary to New Guinea, and eventually founded an orphanage in Guatemala.
There are some great take-aways from this book, and would be a good counselling tool.
This little book is full of practical but lucidly powerful reminders.
Mrs. Hunt offers the readers scriptural shovels that will help them to dig deeper into the essence of how God loves them and has (Himself) esteemed them.
90 pages in depth, but don't be fooled. Through God, Mrs. Hunt's writing is definitely helping the reader to accept themselves, to value themselves, and accept God's valuation of them.
