After two years of pandemic people are touchy. Violence is everywhere. Fear and anxiety run wild. Jess has a scary encounter with a man in the woods and then a blow-up that threatens her closest friendships. Her husband, FBI Agent Scott Cooper, investigates a school shooting he thinks might be the start of a bigger terrorism campaign.
A lead in that case takes Scott and Jess to the mountains of western Virginia as a snowstorm moves in. While there, a school bus disappears. The driver is found dead by the road, but where is the bus and, more importantly, the kids?
Jess and Scott, along with Jess's dog Luke, join the sheriff in the hunt. The elderly Miss Etta provides a clue but is she reliable? Scott’s intelligence, Jess’s grit, and Nate’s wisdom all must come into play to save the kids. In the end, Nate’s comment that “People ain’t always what they seem,” proves dead accurate.
Linda writes "white-knuckle fiction"--FBI thrillers with a twist of faith--from her home in rural Virginia. She's had careers as a government worker, a stay-at-home mom, and a journalist. Her husband, Larry, worked at the FBI Academy for over 25 years. Together they have three grown children. These days, Linda stays entertained by two cats and a Sheltie who tries to herd them. When she's not writing, you can find her walking in the woods, at the beach or doing something (anything) with dogs.
Another incredible story in the K-9 Search and Rescue series by Linda White. I could not put this book down - so many twists and turns and so many little side stories that kept me on the edge of my seat. It is wonderful to see how the characters, Jess and Scott and Nate and Laura grow closer to our Lord with each new story - all very special people in their own way. Thank you Linda — I cannot wait for the next in this series! Please never stop writing.
This series has good stories, but Jessica seems to get dumber with each book. Despite having been a police detective and now a private detective and SAR volunteer, she seems to only know how to search but I'd clueless about life, people, pregnancies, etc. It gets a bit annoying to hear her sounding so dumb. Same with Nate. In the first book, Nate wasn't the overly friendly type initially... and he didn't seem to have a backwoods accent. As the series progresses, he develops a thick backwoods accent with poor grammar. He also seems to accept everyone easily, unlike in the first book.
Books 4 & 5 are preachier than I care for.... I also dislike hearing reference to prayers being answered when sometime gets what they want. Most Christians are taught that all prayers are Sl answered, just not always the wait you want - sometimes the answer is no or wait.
Worth reading? Yes. The series consists of quick, easy reads that are enjoyable overall. But I'm hoping Jess & Nate go back to who they were before she lost all signs of independence
Another super inspirational captivating page-turner! I am binge-reading this entire series in one week, and I love this series!
Jess and Scott have now been married three years, after she scared him to death in the last book, he bought her a Garmin InReach to bring with her on Search and Rescue calls. Her dear friend Nate Tanner has encouraged her to begin consulting with police departments and offers seminars to increase search and rescue proficiency. She and her dog Luke are highly capable and successful. Nate tells her "You do what you're scared to do. You got grit, girl." This story also involves Nate's wife Laura and her mother Miss Etta. Miss Etta sees two strange men near her home occasionally and some think her dementia is getting worse. Nate and Laura would love it if she moved in with them, but she refuses. Jess, Scott, and many others have been impacted by what Jess calls The Tanner House of Healing. We meet Kathryn Grace who is a new teacher in Miss Etta's mountain town and spends time visiting her.
Scott is still with the Behavioral Analysis Unit at Quantico, and is now certified as a profiler. He works mass-shooting incidents and domestic terrorism, and is deployed often. “FBI Agent Scott Cooper, investigates a school shooting he thinks might be the start of a bigger terrorism campaign.” His college age daughter is in their lives sporadically until she faces some trauma herself.
"People ain't always what they seem."
Excellent story-telling! So many layered story threads come together in this fascinating tale complete with many twists & turns. I loved the organic faith journey for many of these wonderful characters, trying to live a new way after their eyes and hearts were opened to faith. I can't wait for the next story!
“You do what you’re scared to do. You’ve got grit, girl.”
That sums up Jessica Cooper’s passionate commitment to find lost persons with her search and rescue German Shepherd, Luke, despite her very pregnant belly. Add in horses, Allegheny Mountain cabins and a stubborn, physically challenged dog handler, and the role of grit takes on new meaning.
Linda White explores how tough conflicts can strengthen friendships and cultivate deepening faith. Romance here is anything but corny, as Linda’s not afraid to step into hard topics. I had to remind myself that this was a novel as I became engrossed in her characters in this lively series!
An engaging novel, this offers a great combination: FBI intense mystery, SAR dogs, and rough country settings. And, of course, romantic interest.
Intriguing look at SAR. This book has quite a lot going on. I enjoyed getting to know the characters, and seeing them at work.
The real action and excitement of the story didn't happen until close to the end of the book, but it was well worth the read.

I read the whole series and I wanted it to keep going . it just kept you wanting more ,every page ! The people were just so down to earth ,like your own family . There faith in God just makes want you want to be there with them to pray and talk about what God does in our lives. It gives you a different perspective on how we should be in difficult situations. It also has alot of action that keeps you wanting more ! It keeps you up way to late also ! 100,0000 stars ! Linda White ,I need another one !
I finished the audiobook series this week. While I dearly loved every book, there seem to be details left unfinished. There were characters in all the books that were vital at that point, but never brought up again. For instance- Harper. I imagine there is another book in the works, but Ms. White seems to rush the endings. Each book could have been another half hour, or even an hour longer to iron out everything that went on. 9 hour books with a 10 minute ending just seems leave the ending flat.
This is a very convoluted mystery which makes for a very good story.
An FBI profiler and his wife who is private eye and search and rescue K-9 handler and trainer for SAR are struggling with the impact their busy careers are having on their lives. He is called to profile a school shooter in rural Virginia while is preparing her next training. session and working a private investigation and saving a young boy who had gone missing. When the profiler finds out the school shooting is part of a much bigger cospiracy, the plot thickens.
Wow, what a great story. I read and enjoyed every book in this series but I'm still trying to decide if this is my favorite one or not. Linda puts so much detail about the areas, people, etc...you feel like you are right there along side of them. The main characters, Jess, Scott, Nate and Laura are very likable and work well together. As usual, I am looking forward to the next story in this series.
I enjoy these books. They aren't the usual K-9 adventures. They are a lot of stories rolled into one with a lot of action and human interaction and interest. The bond Jess and her dog Luke share is heart warming as is her relationship with her FBI husband Scott. It's a clean romance and filled with faith. You get very few combinations like that and it's refreshing.
Scott has chest pain after an intense meeting with the Deputy AD but finds he has ulcers from stress and eating ibuprofen like candy. Laura's secret is out and she reacts badly. Thanks to Miss Etta they have a lead on the missing school bus and thwart the bombing of the new power plant but not before Scott is shot. And Jess is pregnant. Can't wait for the next book.
This is an awesome series. I would recommend it to everyone , I just kept reading or listening to the story of Jessica, Scott, Nate , Laura and their friends and family. I was ready for a book 6,... I would have enjoyed reading More of the their life's story. Linda you did a fine job keeping my interest and I was sad not to continue in sharing in Jessica's life.
Ann excellent book that takes the reader into the wooded areas of Virginia. Scott and Jess Cooper live in the country but a more populated area. She is a pro in Search and Rescue with her German Shepherd, Luke. He works with the FBI as an agent who specializes in school shooting, helping to prevent as well as investigate the cause. It's full of suspense and family oriented characters. Do enjoy this one.
This one grabbed me in the first chapter and didn't let go! I haven't read any of this series before but I will now! I enjoyed the characters and of course, Luke the dog.... I mean, you have to have a good dog in there, right? The story was well-woven together and keep a level of suspense going all the way through. I will definitely be looking up the rest of these books!
Series of Linda White's k-9 Search and Rescue books (five total)
I enjoyed the whole series very much. She has a fine understanding of dogs. So often in a series the plots get repetitive or farfetched. That doesn't happen with these. They held my interest through all the books. I wish there were more of them. Thank you for such a good series.
Excellent suspense and follow through on story lines
I chose this book because I Couldn't stop reading once I started I would recommend this to all of my Christian friends especially and to some of my non Christian friends Portrayal f Christianity is realistic And well done I have read the entire series and enjoyed each 1. I hope there's a book 6
Oh how I've enjoyed each of these books! It has been so exciting and enjoyable to follow each characters journey through life and their Faith. I thoroughly enjoyed how each story had a lesson written in it. To trust. To love. To have Faith in God above. Thank you so very much for writing these books Ms. Linda White.
I do love these K-9 books. They are a nice light read to take you into someone else’s life, thus avoiding your own issues for a spell! But then it doesn’t take much to keep this old lady happy
Please keep writing Linda White! I'm a die hard dog lover and enjoy a good mystery. This was another great read and I feel like I know all the characters. Thanks for these books bff.
If you like animals, FBI and search and rescue this is a good read. It has just enough mystery and family intrigue to add to the fun. I particularly like the German Shepherd's ability to search and his other goofy antics.
Well written. As a dog trainer appreciate the accuracy of training and SAR info. It contributes to people understanding and respecting the work done by volunteers.
I love this book even the bad guys,, I hope you will put Kathryn and Mike together. Lauren needs to get a grip she is the one should be trying to get together with her daughter.
This series of 5 books leads you through the life of a non beleiver to a convert The life of Jessica becomes rich in love of a good man and of faith I recommend this series about a woman and her dog
Oh my goodness, what a wonderful series , I couldn’t put it down. I love it!so many twist and turns, how God turns things around .a very touching and and loving, mysterious along the way. Thank you for this wonderful reading. I’m a big fan
This is one of the BEST books I have ever read!! The Search and Rescue is good but all the twist and turns is spectacular. And the many references to God and our current situation is right on! Excellent read!
Start with book #1 and enjoy them all in order! Beautifully developed characters, both human & canine, make this series a joy to read. Full of mystery, searches and faith. Altogether wonderful reading!
Characterization wonderful! I found myself talking to Jess (as if she could hear me...rooting her on) A must read for crime enthusiasts and K-9 lovers! I absolutely enjoyed the series.
This book is wonderful! It's so entertaining! I love the characters and that their struggles are so well written. I love the way the Christian life is laced throughout the story. The suspense and action kept the pages turning. I can't wait for the next book!
It is not often the novels in a series stay true to form and hold interest;however Book five meets that criteria. The saga of Jess, Scott,Hate metal fully pass muster and turn this novel into a hunger ing for more.
