Dave Robinson is a straightforward, no nonsense Aussie guy, who fronts a straightforward, no nonsense Aussie rock band, Spitfire. Dave has no time for the more showy members of the music scene, believing that music shouldn’t need glitz and glamour to make it good. He’s not shy about letting the media know his opinion of pretty musical peacocks, bringing himself to the attention of Zeke Starr, frontman of Australian glam rockers Lost Angels, a man who never met a pot of glitter he didn’t like.
The slanging match between Dave and Zeke has been going on for two years before Spitfire and Lost Angels are scheduled to play the summer festival circuit together, and Spitfire’s manager tries his best to rein Dave in. The singers’ first meeting proves that even the threat of death can’t make Dave keep his mouth shut, and Zeke never backs down from a challenge. With only two weeks to get past two years of public tit-for-tat, a truce between the two rockers might be more than anyone can hope for.
A scientist in a past life, these days Meredith Shayne mainly uses her scientific training to poke holes in television pseudoscience. Originally from Australia, she moved to New Zealand a few years ago and hasn't regretted it for one minute, even if she frequently wishes that the New Zealand weather was a little better. Meredith travels a lot, so much so that she has developed a shameful love of airplane food and knows her passport number off by heart. When she is at home she enjoys baking, horrible music from the 1980s, and reality television.
I liked Truce, though I wish it was much longer and less rushed. The characters had pretty good chemistry, and I think this could have been a great read, provided it had been a full-length novel.
Shayne obviously has a "thing" for rock star stories. Check out Metal Heart. I enjoyed it very much despite it being somewhat frustrating.
Truce and Metal Heart worked out much better for me than Equilibrium which was a big letdown.
I had already read another book by this author, Metal Heart, which was 5 star brilliant, so was pleased to find this story about rock stars Dave and Zeke.
Dave and Zeke are the front men for different rock bands and have spent a couple of years publicly disliking one another. When they both perform at a concert series and actually meet each other, things start to change.
For Aussie readers, the Big Day Out concert is recognizable, but regardless, the characters are gorgeous and the only downside is that the story is not long enough. I would love to read more about these two!
3.5* Typical opposites attract or maybe a little like the kids on the playground that tease and taunt because they actually like you and want to play with you. Dave and Zeke are both musicians on their way up, and there is animosity between them, which is strange because they don't really know each other, just the public persona, so I'm guessing its more trying to get the others attention by behaving like an asshat. Well, it worked, they got each others attention. I liked it a lot, but jeeze Louise, quit making these stories so short, it's just teasing me!
So good. Enemy lead singers from battling bands, hardcore rock and glam rock. They've been sniping at each other but finally they meet and sparks fly. Fight or fuck. It's touch and go but I loved this story. It was fun, it was free but I so wish that it was full length story. I want more of these characters. The end was abrupt but cute.
3.75* Very short but highly enjoyable. I do like rocker stories, love/ hate relationships and opposites attract so this worked for me. Rival bands and a Hard Rocker fronting up against a glam rocker causes sparks to fly, you can guess the rest. Just a shame it was so short but its free and still well worth downloading.
Fun short story about two rock stars in opposing camps. Language and attitudes fit the situation, and from reading the first few paragraphs it becomes clear that Dave and Zeke hate each other's guts. Except – and this is where the story gets interesting, there seems to be a ton of magnetism between them and while it tends to explode into animosity, there is also potential for something else.
Dave is delightfully straightforward, hates glamour and glitz, and believes music should stand on its own, without all the "show-y" stuff. Dave has "hated" Zeke and his band for two years, ad when they finally meet during a tour, the results are explosive – in more than one way. Dave is powerfully built, and his manager and band mates have a hard time holding him back each time there is a physical confrontation.
Zeke is the total opposite of Dave, from the clothes he wears to the music he plays and the makeup he cannot seem to do without. He is tall and thin, and Dave almost doesn’t recognize him when he turns up without his "costume".
The passion between the two is explosive, and from reading this short introduction, it seems to me as if there could be more. If you like short stories with main characters who clash and fight, only to find out there may be a more entertaining way to pass the time, if you enjoy reading about rock stars and their bands, and if you’re looking for a short, hot story with a lot of promise for more, you will probably like this one.
Not a bad quickie about rival opposites who eventually find they have something in common and call a truce while they are on tour. Wish this were a bit longer.
Ślina ci cieknie, łapiesz i... po jednym łyku zabierają ci go z rąk...
An enemies to lovers story. A bit too many names at the beginning for such as short story. You can read it for free on the author's page: http://meredithshayne.com/2013/03/30/...
Another little rockers story set in the Metal Heart world (although King Phoenix are only mentioned casually). Typical enemies to lover or opposites attract theme: Dave can't stand the artificiality of glam rocker Zeke Starr - and he and Zeke have been throwing insults at each other via the press for years. When they now meet in person for the first time during a short tour that features both of them, things are bound to be explosive between them. Dave just didn't expect the type of explosion they'll evoke...
Terrific novella featuring a glam rocker vs a metal rocker, set in the early 90's world of . I really liked it and oh so wish Meredith Shayne would write a sequel. Very very short novella.
