The City #1

In the Air

Rate this book
It all began on a New York City sidewalk. It was so surreal. Juilliard, the enormous brick building that held my dreams and the possibilities of my future. I was prepared for the challenges ahead. What I didn’t expect was to lose my focus the second I met him. Living the dance was no longer the only important thing in my life.

The City opened my eyes, but he transformed me.

Two dancers. One big city. He was determined to make a new start. She was ready to make it in the ballet world. Neither expected love to play a part in achieving their dreams. They also didn't expect it to be so destructive. Samson and Natalia took the leap anyway, not worrying about the fall.

What an amazing debut novel from Crystal Serowka! I was blown away by her writing...and I'm not going to lie I was seriously intimidated by it!

Beautiful wording, beautiful descriptions, and a beautiful story.

There are four POVs in this story (and I swear, even though it sounds like a lot, it doesn't seem overloaded in the least!) and with each character we get a look into why they are the way they are. No two characters had the same upbringing and all are dealing with theirs in their own way.

Your heart will tug for each of them as their insecurities and defenses are revealed and you will fall in love with them all.

Err, maybe not all of them. I understand Aubrey, but I'm still not her biggest fan ;)

But Kingsley, she's a bitch and she's the kind of friend you'd want to stand beside you. She may act like she doesn't care for you, but if she likes you, you know she's the one that will have your back first. She'll protect her friends fiercely. I absolutely adore her. She's just her, doesn't care what anyone thinks and even though some of her actions may seem extreme to others, there is a lot to her that I feel we still have yet to see that has made her who she is. (and Lord I'm hoping for a story for her and a certain tattoo'd HOTTIE! *swoon*)

Love Natalia and Samson, the chemistry between them is intense and literally jumps from your e-reader. And I have to say, while I LOVED Natalia...Samson was my favorite character. Not because he was gorgeous and sweet, but because of his faults and the way he bared his soul. I could go into so much more about these two, but I want you to read it and experience it all for yourselves.

a MUST read.

In The Air is the lovely, lyrical and intimate story of two young dancers at the prestigious Juilliard Academy. It prob seems weird to start my review out by mentioning where they go to school, right? But it's really not, because for both Natalia and Samson Juilliard represents something overwhelmingly significant, something that both of them have striven for for so long that it's really part of who they are now, this dream, this desire to achieve their dance goals, and to make their past something that is truly past, rather than something that traps and defines them by others' expectations. So anything that would be a distraction from their focus on the future is going to be trouble, for both of them. And yet, from the moment they meet, in a wrong footed pas de duh, they are tangled up in each other's dreams and desires, to the point where their attraction and interaction becomes as much a part of their future as the grueling rehearsals and routines they struggle to perfect. Another reason it's pretty appropriate to focus on the setting of the story is that author Crystal does an amazing job of placing you in the scene with her characters. A dingy dorm room, a Greenwich village sidewalk, a cool cafe, a hot club - each of these locales is vividly imagined and conveyed, I loved feeling like I was really there, in the scene, the sights and sounds so vividly described that I could close my eyes (well, briefly, I mean, I was reading after all), and let myself be drawn into Natalia's world.

Crystal's debut is delightful and intoxicating, I loved experiencing a world I was unfamiliar with, and emotions that while familiar (overwhelming and awkward unexpected attraction, dangerous desires and inappropriate actions) are freshly imagined and conveyed. Do yourself a favor and abandon yourself to the collision of two intense souls whose dreams and desires draw strength from each other, even as the world seems to try to pull them apart. Lots of cool side characters (Kingsley o Kingsley, wherefor art thou cray cray) and musical references make this an artistic and emotional experience that will leave you swoony and satisfied, while still thirsty for more of Crystal's champagne prose.

"Even the best fall down sometimes
Even the stars refuse to shine
Out of the back you fall in time
I somehow find
You and I collide"
Howie Day, Collide
(This songs reminds me of Natalia and Samson in lots of ways, see what you think!)

3.5 Dancing Stars!

In the Air was a story about two dancers both in their first year at Juilliard. Although there are many characters, and is written from several pov’s, the focus is on Natalia and Samson. Both have the same dream. To dance professionally.
Dancing defined who I was. It was my own personal language, and between these walls, everyone was fluent.

Natalia’s mother puts a lot of pressure on her. As a former ballerina, and now a ballet teacher, she makes sure Natalia lives to dance. Natalia’s main support system and cheerleader, her father, has recently died of cancer. Going to Juilliard is her dream, and she will do anything to succeed.

 photo 1e265820-c515-4065-8a16-d70b23d44e45_zps412a82c5.jpg

Samson’s mother is the opposite of Natalia’s. She is very supportive of his dancing. His father, however, is not. All he wanted for his only child was to follow his footsteps and become a doctor. Samson is following his dream as well. His father is not the only one unhappy about this. His long time girlfriend Aubrey gives him a lot of grief. They have been best friends forever, but their relationship is spiraling down.

Natalia wasn’t looking for a boyfriend, and Samson already has a girlfriend, but somehow they find each other. They are partners in their dance class and although they have a rocky start, they find they can relate to one another. They have something special. But its complicated...

This was a nice, sweet and fun story. A little drama and angst, but a good, light read. One of my favorite movies growing up was Center Stage and this book reminded me of it a little :D
“I’m not falling for you, Natalia, I’ve already fallen.”

As much as I liked Natalia and Samson, Natalia’s roommate stole the show for me! I loved Kingsley and her slutty sarcastic self! I am really excited that she and Wren are the stars of the next book! I can’t wait!!!

I read this last Friday, but left the reviewing till later, because I was torn as to how to go about doing this. When I first read the blurb, I was extremely excited. There are barely any books out there focusing on the showbiz in which both the male and female protagonists are stars. Another plus was the fact that the subject matter concerned dancing. I am a huge fan of contemporary/modern dance, and as ballet has strong ties with that genre, I was uber hyped. So, lets get down and dirty, shall we?

The Good:

The characters' backstories - Making a career out of dancing is extremely difficult, and is often met with much resistance on the part of parents who wish to see their children succeed academically, as opposed to artistically. Dancing in particular presents situations on opposite ends of the parental approval spectrum. On one side you have parents that are thrilled in their child's artistic ability. On the other, you have the artistically inclined child become the family's dirty little secret. This is often true if the child in question is a male dancer. Billy Elliot is a classic, and it highlights much of the stigma male dancers face in today's society.

Crystal too, sheds light upon this growing problem. As someone who is a staunch supporter of the arts, I love that Crystal centered much of her plot upon Samson's struggle with familial approval. There needs to be more people speaking out against the stereotyping happening out there, and I respect that Crystal used her book to diminish some of the cruelty in today's society. Natalia too faced pressure from her parents, though it was opposite to what Samson had to go through. Many of us know all to well what happens when familial expectations get out of hand. Natalia has to deal with a shrewish mother, and while that may seem like a small problem in the long haul, it should be remembered that mothers have the greatest capacity to heal, as well as to hurt. Crystal created some great backstories for her characters, and I greatly enjoyed this.

The alternating viewpoints - I'm a huge fan of this particular device, and the fact that Crystal used it greatly pleased me. With contemporary fiction, there's only so many ways you can write a plot. Changing up the viewpoints gives the novel a better rounded feeling. Instead of sticking to the safer, two-person model, Crystal sticks in two more points of view, which was a refreshing change. Though we predominantly get to see the story through Natalia and Samson's eyes, it was nice to see things with Kingsley's blunt manner, as well as with Aubrey's delusional glasses.

The secondary characters - Also known as Kingsley. People may disagree with me, but I found Kingsley to be the best part in the book. She was up front and totally unapologetic for who she was. It did my inner feminist much good to see her embrace her promiscuity for what it was. As I was ranting the other day, there seems to be this double standard out there, where if a female embraces her sexuality and sows some wild oats, it's deemed a black mark on her record, while it is completely okay for a man to stick it everywhere and anywhere. I loved that Crystal made Kingsley so completely badass. She was a great influence for Natalia, though I wish Natalia would've taken a few more pages out of Kingsley's book. I really hope Crystal writes us a second book featuring Kingsley as the protagonist. Sign me up for that one!

The Bad:

The pacing - This book moved way too fast. I would've liked to see more development of the relationship between Natalia and Samson. It felt like one moment, Natalia's snarking at Sam, and the next, they're rolling around in bed having sexy times. I would also have liked to read more about their interactions in their dance class. After all, they were dance partners, doing sexy ballet dance moves. The overall effect of the consummation would have been greater, if the sexual tension between the two was expanded upon. It also felt like the conflict was dimmed to quickly. I would've liked some more angst, preferably involving a jealous Samson.

The writing style - There were no pressing grammatical errors, but the way the book was written seemed really shallow. I prefer things with nice descriptions, so I can get a feel for the world in which the characters live. It also hampered with my ability to truly connect with the characters, in that I didn't necessarily feel what they were feeling. Empathy plays a huge factor in how enjoyable a book is, and unfortunately, I had none for Samson and Natalia. This was a pity, as the characters themselves had great potential.

It is the lack of emotional connection with the protagonists was what really broke this story for me. The plot itself had great potential, however, the follow through fell just short. This much is understandable, as this is Crystal's debut. I am definitely looking forward to reading more of her work, and seeing her grow as an author. While it may not be the strongest debut out there, this book was enjoyable at times. Do I recommend it? It all depends on what you like, and I have a feeling that many of the indie readers out there will enjoy this greatly.

My verdict? 3-stars, but that's just me. The hardass has spoken people, the hardass has spoken.

I love a great debut novel! I've had In the Air on my 'to read' list for months now and I was so excited to find out it was finally available for download. It was a very quick, easy read and sometimes they can be my absolute favourites.

In the Air is about two students newly attending Julliard school.
Samson's life hasn't always been about dance but once he realised he was a natural with such a wonderful talent, he put his life and soul in to his ballet. Despite the constant criticism from his father.
Natalia on the other hand has had a life full of dance and ballet. Her mother, formally a ballet herself, has been on her back her entire life. Julliard is a welcome change in her life, finally she is able to live her life the way she chooses.

description

As I said before this was quick and easy. The story certainly wasn't unique, but I enjoyed it all the same. I really enjoyed both characters, there wasn't anything to dislike about them. Samson though, had some very douchebag moments that made me want to strangle him. I can usually make excuses, but not in this instance..

There were some really great secondary characters in this book and I loved that we got a POV from more than just two people. I can't recall any book where there was 4 different people narrating so that was a really nice change. I'm particularly a huge fan of Natalia's roommate Kingsley, she was really interesting and the sort of friend everybody could do with.
"Life is shit, we all know that, which is why you have to make it your bitch." - Kingsley

Overall, I enjoyed this book and it was most definitely worth the wait. I do have a few questions left unanswered though. What was up with Samson's roommate? A lot of time was spent describing him and his odd ways but nothing was reserved. I also want to know more about Kingsley and her past. What made her the way she is? I know this is the first in a series but at this point I have no idea what the rest of the series is about but I'm hoping these issues are resolved.

description

I also just want to add in a little about Natalia and her dad. We find out early on that Natalia lost her dad to cancer a year before attending Julliard and as sad and painful as this is, I loved this aspect of the story. I could tell those scenes and issues were coming from the heart of the author and it all felt so real and genuine. I could tell that the author was describing what would have been a beautiful relationship between Natalia and her dad.

“I fell for you the moment I saw you standing in front of Julliard in your polka dot shirt and combat boots. You looked so lost. I knew you weren't a part of the group I was looking for, it just gave me an excuse to not look like I was coming onto you. When I looked into your eyes that very first time, I knew what I had been missing out of my entire life. I’m not falling for you, Natalia, I’ve already fallen.”

I absolutely LOVED this book. LOVED! For so many reasons. One would be that I am a former dancer. You name it, I danced it: ballet, tap, jazz, hip hop, contemporary, even dabbled in a bit of gymnastics (sadly, I was too paranoid of my head hitting the floor when I was starting off doing cartwheels). I even danced all four years of high school. Dance has always been a part of me. I love it to this day. My favorite impressionist painter is Degas because almost all his paintings/sculptures are of ballet dancers. Go take a look at my tumblr and you will see how much I love ballet (you'll also see how much I love NYC). Ahh, those slimmer, younger, more limber years of dance and youth. *sigh* Anyways, enough about going back in time to memory lane. Let's move along to the book.

I won't give you the low down on the book. Again, you read the blurb and you pretty much know what it's about: boy meets girl, boy and girl have crazy chemistry together, boy and girl go through a roller coaster ride of emotions.

The chemistry I shared with Natalie amazed me. Every time she was around, I felt the need to better myself. When my lips touched hers, every part of my body burned from the effect, I’d never felt that kind of heat in my life.

Samson (the boy) and Natalia (the girl) are FANTASTIC together. I loved their banter. I loved visualizing them together dancing. In my eyes, the were not only a beautiful couple aesthetically but a beautiful dancing couple in their body moves, their passion, their love for ballet.

“I see the way she looks at you. She gets serious bedroom eyes.”

They were also two of the most broken souls. Samson and Natalia clung to each other not only through their adoration to ballet but also because they have broken hearts when it comes to parents and past lives. Samson although coming from a very affluent family, was missing the love of his father that he yearned for but never got. In his father's eyes, he was a failure. On the other hand, Natalia's father was her everything. Where her mother was a ball buster, her father showed her with praise and love. They were both missing that 'something' that they finally found in each other.

I laughed softly. Natalia looked at me, and I felt she was seeing everything I’d hidden from the world. She saw all of my broken pieces, but refused to turn away. In that second, I realized she was exactly what I’d been missing in my life.

Even the supporting cast was wonderful. Kingsley, Natalia's roommate at Julliard's, was all kinds of bitchy wonderfulness. I always, for some crazy reason, always flock to the bitchy character. I wonder what that says about me? Hmmmm. But you see, I attach myself to the 'sassy' bitch not the selfish and irritating ones (Yeah, I am looking at you Aubrey). Kingsley is one of those chicks that gives you shit for wearing a tacky outfit and will rag on you all damn night. But holy hell, she will take off her earrings the minute someone so much as picks on you. That girl has your back and will brawl and snuff anyone who gives her friends the evil eye. True New York style! (I hope the author brings her back in her upcoming books because she and Wren-Samson's best friend-were fabulous together) Kingsley and Natalia made a wonderful sassy set of sisters.

“You’re a feisty one. Has anyone ever told you that, Natalia?”

I could go on and on on how much this book meant to me. How my love for ballet and the city of New York are passions of mine as well. Natalia and I have those two things in common. That and we are both caffeine addicts! Even the little tid bits of how Samson thought that holding hands was a big deal in a relationship. Such little things like that really tugged at my heart. I am a SUCKER for hand holding! I think it's so intimate.

Favorite quotes/moments:

“Brown-eyes girl."
"What did you just say?"
"Your eyes made me think about the song. Did I say something to upset you?"
"No. It’s just that my dad always used to sing that song to me. It was our song."
"I’m sure your father is proud of you.”

“You’re my life, Natalia. I want to be with you forever."
"I thought you could never know the outcome of a relationship? How can you say you want to be with me forever?"
"I've never cared about the outcome of anything until now. You’re my everything.”

(I contacted the author of this book and pretty much told her that I couldn't wait to read her book. So happy that she published it earlier then the original date. I dashed to Amazon and clicked away. I was going to wait to read it later on that night but I just couldn't help myself. I couldn't put it down from that moment on. I started it at the gym at around lunch hour. I wanted to keep reading it even after I was done with the gym. I was so into it that I wanted to read it while I was driving. However, I don't think the other drivers would have appreciated it if I swerved into their lane. So, I got home and needed to take a shower. Unfortunately, I couldn't bring my Kindle in the shower with me. See, getting sizzled wasn't at the top of my list of things to do that day. I still needed to finish the book.
Bottom line: GREAT book!)

"If we hadn't agreed to take things slow, I would kiss you senseless right now, in the middle of this sidewalk, hoping everyone would stop and stare."
In the Air was a absolute treat to read! I enjoyed every pirouette, plié, and tondue. When I saw that this book was about two ballet dancers at Juilliard in New York, I knew I had to read it. And look at the book cover! It's absolutely gorgeous.

Having just lost her father to cancer, Natalia is still a little numb when she begins her freshman year at Julliard. Her mother isn't exactly the most loving, supportive person; in fact she's quite the ice queen. Mommy Dearest is more concerned with the number of practice hours Natalia has logged than her daughter's well-being.Of course, her freshman experience wouldn't be complete without a random potluck roommate. Enter Kingsley. At first, Kingsley came across as a rude, crazy bitch. I thought Kingsley was going to make Natalia's life a living hell. Boy was I wrong! She ended up being one of my favorite characters. Kingsley is one of those people you don't want to cross who you want to be your best friend because she'll have your back. And guess what, errybody? The second installment of the "In the Air" series is going to Kingsley and Wren's book! *yes yes yes dance*

Kingsley: "Those stares you were giving each other were hotter than the last porno I watched."

Natalia meets Samson outside of school, and they don't exactly hit it off. Okay, Natalia hates him. Samson is everything she doesn't want--preppy clothes, cocky attitude, and he calls her "doll". As luck would have it, they are paired as partners in dance class, and Natalia is less than thrilled.

Natalia: "Don't get too excited being this close to me. It will only happen when we're dancing."
Samson: "You don't seem to like me very much."
Natalia: "You don't miss a thing."

Natalia and Samson play cat and mouse. Natalia wants nothing to do with him, but Samson is a persistent little bugger. The chemistry between Natalia and Samson was off the charts. Their back and forth banter dripped with sexual tension. I LOVED THAT!

"If she only knew how much control she actually had, she could easily have me begging just to be near her."

But just as Natalia begins to come around, Samson drops a bomb. And I was all...*GASP*...Oh no, he didn't!! YES HE DID!! (I'm not going to tell you what the bomb is. You'll have to find out for yourself). This is the part where I got really super frustrated with Samson. I felt like he could have handled the situation much better. But then again, Natalia wasn't completely innocent either. Their shenanigans cancel each other out, right?

I assumed this book was going to be dual POV, but I was pleasantly surprised to find that there were four POVs. Now before you let that turn you off, let me tell you that the book is primarily in Samson and Natalia's POV. But Aubrey and Kingsley's POV is sprinkled in there for good measure. I loved seeing the story told from these other outside POVs. It helped me connect with these secondary characters and made me more sympathetic towards them.

One thing I liked about In the Air was that it kept my interest without being OTT (over-the-top) dramatic. I hate it when books throw in a plot twist just to shock me, especially when the twist makes absolutely no sense. The way Serowka describes New York, the school, and the general surroundings made me feel like I was there seeing it all. This is a stunning debut that left me wanting more.

In The Air was a breath of fresh air. I was taken away instantly. I was memorized with the authors writing style and the way this story flowed so smoothly. I felt like I was there, living the college dream with Natalia, Samson, Kingsley, and Aubrey. These four characters take us on their own journey throughout Julliard, as the story alternate's POV's. I LOVED that about this book. I think it brings so much to the book when we get to see inside every character's heads and feel all of their emotions.

Ok so I was head over heels in love with Miss Natalia. How couldn't I be? She won me over. She is brilliant. She is also an amazing ballerina, down right gorgeous, and absolutely adorable. Her style is great too. But what intrigued me the most about her, wasn't just her passion for dance, but her coming out of her shell and realizing that there is more to life. She has passions and desires just like the rest of us. I couldn't wait for her to find her match, and little did I know she was going to find him sooner than later.

Sam, Sammy, Samson....that man. He is smokin'! Did I mention he is also a Ballet Dancer? And boy can he dance. He has moves like Jagger. :) There are times when he reminds me of a big ole' teddy bear too. Plus, he has this off the wall personality, but from first impressions you would think he is a prude. He dresses very preppy, so to speak. But the man has taste, he pulls it off well too. So when you first meet him, take all of his features and characteristics in and smile. Try not to drool, like I may have...Anywho, going off track here. Samson is hot and just amazing in all ways, and doesn't realize that he may have found someone that will complete him. Life sometimes just throws you off kilter, and really in this book it happens to these characters...

Well Kingsley is a bit much to take in at times. But honestly she is the best friend that I wish I had. She rocks. Not just as a friend, but as a person. The girl is classy, down right sassy, and drop dead gorgeous. She isn't afraid to flaunt what she has. Her personality is killer. She tells it how it is. We all need someone like her in our life, right? The woman is also an amazing ballerina. Her and Natalia form a weird bestie relationship, but it isn't always rainbows and butterflies, which I think made me love her more. She is just an interesting person.

Now, Aubrey I disliked. She is everything you want to be. She is beautiful, rich, and sweet. But I also loved her. So basically I loved to hate her. Crazy, right? I know. But it just went that way for me. She is perfect. And I just hated when she would appear all of the sudden in the book. It was like bam! Aubrey is here. Crap. So, to sum it up...Aubrey preys on my favorite people. She is the Lion seeking out her next victim.

After reading this book, I was blown away. I could not believe that this was Author Crystal Serowka's first book. Everything about it screamed amazing. From the beginning to the end, I was on pins and needles. There was love, angst, and new beginnings. This book, to me, was not just about dancing for the ballet but dancing to the music of the heart. Following that music and seeing where it will take you, every story deserves it's own beat. Thank you for allowing me to be apart of your epic journey into Authordom Crystal. I was fortunate to beta read this amazing book. YOU MUST READ THIS BOOK! You will fall in love with everything about it! I give this book 5 SPARKLY STARS!!!

In The Air, Crystal Serowka’s debut novel can be summed up in one word… beautiful. I enjoyed her writing style, and character development, and the overall plot.

The first thing I genuinely loved about the whole story was that it was told from four, yes I said four alternating POV’s. You might think this is a bit much, but I honestly LOVED having a look into the mind of all of these characters, and it helps you truly understand where they are coming from.

We meet Natalia, and Samson as they are embarking on their first semester at Julliard as ballet dancers. They immediately have an instant distain for the other. Natalia has danced her whole life. Her mother was a former ballerina, and has been training Natalia for years to have the career she never could. Natalia’s mother seems to worry more about having a “famous” pupil, then the well-being of her daughter. This has of course led to Natalia and her mother having a strained relationship, and her father, who was her rock has recently succumb to cancer.

Sampson is cocky and arrogant (We love those qualities don’t we?) and quickly gets on Natalia’s nerves. Samson's father cannot believe he would want to be a dancer for the rest of his life. He had thought Samson would follow in his footsteps and become a doctor. The fact that Samson has chosen to follow his passion and become a ballet dancer has caused a lot of tension. His mother has supported his choice, but she has had to do it in secret, fearful that she will upset her husband.

Sampson and Natalia both are dealing with issues obviously. Although they try to hide it they are both insecure, and have walls built up, and certainly should steer clear of each other. Except they have incredible chemistry, and from the moment they meet I am rooting for them.

The secondary characters in this one are also enjoyable. I’ll briefly talk about one, Kingsley. Kingsley is a bad ass b*tch, and I immediately want her as my friend. I am intrigued by her character and am hoping that since this is a series, we will be getting her whole story.

Overall this was a quick enjoyable read. There is some drama, but it’s not over the top, and I appreciated we didn’t have to go down a road of immaturity in a NA novel. If you are looking for a light read, look no further. I look forward to seeing the next novel Ms. Serowka puts out.

One side note to mention, Ms. Serowka pokes a little bit of fun at New Yorkers. I assure you as a native NY’er we are all not rude, and some of us are downright hospitable.

I was so excited about this book. The blurb really hooked me, and after reading the prologue and chapter one a few months ago, I was hooked! I could also tell how excited Ms. Serowka was about her debut - I couldn't wait.

After finally having In The Air in my hands, I feel conflicted. This book took me just a few hours to read. I'm not sure if that's attributed to my super-speed reading skills or the length of the book. I suppose the pacing of the story could also be a factor - the narrative went by at super quick pace (I really had no concept of the length of time that had passed in the story since it began - felt like the span of one week, but I suppose it could have been more), I felt almost rushed to read it.

Unfortunately, this also meant that the development of both Samson and Natalia got lost along the way. Their relationship elevated so quickly and without a lot of angst (I wish I could have seen more examples of problems with their prospective parents perhaps with a trip home during a holiday break or something, or even a little jealousy from Samson, especially if Natalia was as gorgeous as he claimed her to be), which I feel would have added a lot more depth to the story. Natalia, for example - as a freshman in college starting off in a new city (a big city, at that), I would like to have seen a little more coming-of-age type angst from the story, as well. I knew very little about their personalities and believe I was being "told" more about their love, as opposed to actually feeling it. Also, as a previous dancer myself, I thought the inclusion of ballet was beautiful. But as dance partners, I would have liked to have read more about the sexual tension in their partnership; more build-up to their actual relationship... acting out their sexual frustrations of trying to remain "just friends" in their dances. That would have been lovely to read.

I know I seem to be listing all the negatives about this story, but really, it was still enjoyable. And quick, if you want something easy to read. This was a great debut from Ms. Serowka, because I can really see her becoming a seasoned writer, and quickly at that. I will definitely read the next story (Kingston, please!) and anything else by this author.

As a beta reader for Crystal's debut, I got the privilege or reading it before it is released. Let me tell you guys, this is a book to grab! Ms. Serowka writes a beautiful book on romance, struggles, and finding one another through determination.

Samson and Natalia share al love for dance. They're both extremely competitive and want nothing more than to succeed at their craft. The one thing they weren't looking for was love, but it found them. Natalia's roommate Kingsley adds a lot of humor as well. There were times she drove me nuts and other times I was laughing at what she'd say or do. Overall, the whole book is very entertaining and I found myself thinking about it when I wasn't reading, which is a sign to me of how good it is.

When it's released, grab it. It's worth the read.

Let me start by saying I have been waiting for this book for months now, I have been watching and reading all the teasers the author has been sending out and was so excited to finally get to read this book but also wondered would the story be as good as I thought it would with this being the author's first book... well I was not disappointed, it was so much better than I could have ever expected.

The story is written in multiple POV's and at first I wasn't sure if I liked it, but as I got into the book and the characters, I absolutely loved know what was going on with everyone, the author truly did an amazing job writing this story from the different POV's, cause if it's not done right, it truly is hard to connect with the story and to enjoy it, this was not the case with this book

The story starts off with Natalia and her dying father, I felt every emotion that Natalia did and by the end of the prologue, I was a blubbering mess. After her Fathers death the story then picks up at her first day at Juilliard where before she even enters the building meets Samson, a guy who truly does not live up to any of the stereotypes of male ballet dancers. From the moment he entered the story, I knew I would love him, only problem, Aubrey, his long time girlfriend and childhood sweetheart, which I am truly a sucker for. But from the moment he meets Natalia, you feel the chemistry between them and we quickly learn that things aren't going well for Team Aubrey. Normally I would be all sympathetic for her, being his childhood sweetheart but she is a spoiled rotten rich girl. I hate triangles cause I always feel sorry for the one who is left with a broken heart but the author does such an amazing job of making you hate her that in the end you don't feel bad for her which always ruins the HEA for me. And I loved that Samson, other than a kiss, didn't cheat, nothing I hate more than books with cheating it, ruins the HEA as well. The Triangle was so well written in this story.

I loved loved loved Natalia, the love she had for her dad, I could feel every emotion. I loved her attitude and I loved how much she loved Ballet, even though it was something drilled into by her mother. I really connected with her character, through the whole book, I felt each and everyone of her emotions that she felt. SHe is someone I would love to have as a friend and a roomiei!

You can't not love Samson, never thought I would ever write hot and male ballet dancer together but that is what he is. He has broken every stereotype I have heard about male ballet dancers. I loved who he was when he was with Natalia, truly swoon worthy

At first I wasn't sure if Kingsley was going to be a mole or would end up loving her, at first when she laid out the rules I though she has to be the worse roommate ever and then ended up turning it to such an awesome friend and roomie. I truly hope we may see more of her and see her get a HEA

Aubrey Aubrey Aubrey, what do I say about her, I truly hate her and what she almost did but at the same time, she is a spoiled little rich girl that has her life planned out and when Samson doesn't do what her plan says, you truly see how spoiled she is, I wanted to bitch slap her so many times. But in her own way she loved Samson and was fighting to save them and the love they once had. And like all stories, no good story doesn't have some drama along with a really hateable mole.

This book was an amazing romantic story that was written so well and with everything you want and feel in a good romance; drama, angst, heartbreak, new friendships, a budding romance that is so passionate, there were so many times I could feel myself on the verge of tears and I hardly ever cry at a book and then the moments you get goosebumps, I love that feeling. It is a book that is so different from anything I have read recently and I truly loved that, was a fresh new story that when it's over, you love the HEA and feel completely happy with the whole story but at the same time sad that it's over, you just want so much more of Natalia and Samson. For me that is the sign that it is a truly amazing book.

In the AIr by Crystal Serowka is going to be added to my "All time favorites" bookshelf on GoodReads. SHe is an amazing and very talented writer, and I am still in shock that this is her first book. This is definitely an author I will be following and reading any and all of her books.

Definitely a 5+ Star read, Check it out, you won't be sorry

And I will leave it off with one of my favorite lines from the book, that I truly believe and will be adding it to my all time favorite quotes
"You can't go into a relationship knowing the outcome. You're either going to love someone for the rest of your life or fall out of love." ~ Samson Callahan (a.k.a. Crystal Serowka)

First off I have to say that I want to thank Crystal for the privilege of reading In the Air as an ARC. What an incredible story! From the moment we meet Samson and Natalia you can not help but love and root for them. The story is told in multiple points of view, sometimes that can hinder a story but not here, I enjoyed reading from the 4 perspectives.

Samson -- I love you! A young male ballerina is not an easy role to play but he came off as an amazing character. Still strong but emotional.

Natalia -- Prima ballerina. She stole my heart. I really felt her passion for her craft even though it was expected from her demanding mother. The memories of her father broke my heart.

Kingsley -- The best friend every girl needs. I love her honesty and cant wait to here more of her story.

Aubrey -- I loved hating you. I can see where she was coming from but still wanted to punch her in the face.

I can not believe this is Crystal's first book. I could not put it down and read it in one day. I felt like I was at Julliard watching the story unfold. This was a beautifully written story and I can not wait to read more.

Crystal -- Bravo!! Take a bow! You deserve it! I see great success in your future. Thank you again for giving me the privilege of reading your book!

Miss Crystal Serowka's debut novel. Did you say, debut? Yah, I don't believe it.

I'm a sucker for anything to do with the arts, so I KNEW that I'd instantly feel a connection with the characters in this book. I wasn't wrong.

Natalia is they typical person I think of when I think of a serious dancer. She's focused, she is a bit demure...as the book progresses, she changes, and I think that's one of my favorite things about her. She grows a set ;)

Samson....oh sweet, Samson.
"Once I found Samson, my heart never beat the same."
Sure, Samson had his flaws, but the chemistry between him and Natalia was just HOT.
"When you kissed me the first night, it was like all of the coldness I felt toward you evaporated, but the second you left, it refroze into a glacier."

I really loved the fact that this book was told from different POV's.

While I loved Natalia and Samson, one of my favorite characters in the book was Kingsley, Natalia's roomate. She was harsh, a bit too much to take at times, but she was honest to a fault and she just added that extra bit of spice to the book.

I absolutely adore this book!

another one to add to my to-read list!

BLURB --> It all began on a New York City sidewalk.

As a former ballerina, I picked up this book mostly because of the ballet part. And I ended liking most everything in it. The romance was cute and the backstory solid. The climax was a bit more simplistic than I expected, but I still enjoyed it very much.

*******Spoilers******************WARNING REVIEW CONTAINS SPOILERS **********************************************************************************

I started this book last night and didn't get finished till close to 4 this morning! I had a hard time coming up with a word to describe Crystal's writing. She made me experience not only the emotions the characters where going through but also the surroundings. When Natalia was visiting her dad in the hospital I felt like I was there smelling that sterile hospital smell.. I imagined the blue and green speckled carpet and bare walls where she and Kingsley shared a room. I think the word that does her justice is VIVID. She didn't put a bunch of fluff or descriptive words just fill the pages. I can't stand when authors do that and I wonder if they do it just to get the page count higher.

The story was beautiful and frustrating. When I first met Samson I thought he was such an arrogant jerk. His father thinks being a ballerino is a waste so he's used to acting a certain. Natalia's mom didn't achieve her goal to become a famous ballerina so she has pushed her dream off on Natalia and no longer fills her role as a mother only as her teacher. She lost her dad a year ago who was her only support system. It's very sad. Samson has been dating Aubrey since forever but things have been really bad between them and Samson has fallen out of love with her. She used to support his dreams of being a dancer but has given up on him and also on her own dreams. While he is trying to figure out what to do with his relationship with Aubrey he is falling for Natalia. Natalia is unaware that Samson has a girlfriend and is caught off guard by how she's starting to feel for him once she sees his dickish behavior was just a front. After everything is out in the open and decisions are made it's sticking to those decisions that's the hardest.

Even though I really didn't care for Aubrey my heart still hurt for her. She is obviously weak when it comes to pleasing her daddy. When Samson and her had their talk I was glad that he was manning up but my eyes did tear up for Aubrey when he told her...."It's like we're fighting to bring our relationship back from the dead.......but I don't know if I want to resurrect it." I put myself in Aubrey's shoes and was just crushed. I'm sure other readers probably won't agree with me but if I was Aubrey and I was with someone for so long and I thought I loved them I would have done whatever I needed to do to fight for them.

The parts of the story that I wished we could have gotten more on was Natalia's past. What happened to her? It was mentioned that she was hurt by someone and maybe a sentence was mentioned as to what but I'd like to have gotten more details. For her to react so negative to Samson talking to other woman (even older ones) is so extreme I old think there has to be a reason why. Yes, we all tend to get jealous but not the way Natalia does.

Also, I understand that Samson and Aubrey were already having problems in their relationship but I wish Natalia and Samson's story had time to build before they actually got together and then went through so much. I would have like to see their friendship grow, more time spent together like they did shopping, in Central Park, dancing, etc.

Now, although I really respected Samson trying to do the right thing by Aubrey and break up with her because he didn't love her and he even told Natalia that it wasn't because of her I did have a HUGE problem with him at the end of the book. When Natalia was being a fool and ended things with him he called Aubrey. That of course pissed me off. Even after Natalia called him and he stepped out of the hotel room he had time to clear his head and he still went back in the room with the intention of being with Aubrey because Natalia didn't want him. What happened to his good intentions???? That was him being a coward!! What would have happened if Aubrey didn't slip up and lie? He would have hurt her by getting back together with her and not even being able to say he loved her. He could have still been broken up with Aubrey and also be without Natalia. That kind of justifies Natalia's feelings that he would go back to Aubrey because he did. Yes, it was her stupid fault but if you truly love someone like you say you don't just try to get over someone in 1 day by being with someone else. He could have tried to give Natalia time and showed her that he wasn't going back to Aubrey but he didn't because he WENT BACK TO AUBREY!!! I was so pissed. Of course she didn't find out about it. What would she have done if she did???

I'm definitely excited to read about Wren and Kingsley and even Aubrey's story! Kingsley may seem like a whore but I know there is more to her. She has some deep issues and I can't wait to get to the bottom of them. Wren is hot!!! And that accent and those tats are driving me mad.

4.5 stars...!!!

ATTENTION SPOILERS!

I was so lucky to win an ARC of “In the Air” by Crystal Serowka and since I was raring to read it this was a blessing. Samson and Natalia are young but with old souls. Samson is encouraged by his mother to start and pursue his dream to became a ballet dancer while his father sees it all as a waste of time and energy. Natalia’s mother’s greatest obsession and desire is to make her daughter an exceptional dancer and demands she dedicates all her time and energy possible to achieve this task. Her father is the understanding one. When they meet at Julliard they come from difficult situations. Natalia has lost her dead and Samson is having problems not only with his father but with his girlfriend too which up till then was one of his greatest supporter. Natalia and Samson are paired as dance partners and this allows them to know each other better. We see sparks and chemistry since the first time they appear together and the pull is so strong that doesn’t surprise they start developing feelings. You feel when you meet your half one. Samson has a girlfriend but their relationship is strained and he thought more than once to break things with her in the past but before Natalia he didn’t have a good reason to make him do it. Now he has. And seriously I’m happy for him since Aubrey keeps whining, complaining and ranting every time they talk. I’m sure she has her motivations for becoming like this, there are always two faces in the same medal, but I don’t blame Samson for his actions.
He didn’t inform Natalia of Aubrey’s existence before they kissed twice but in those moments you live your emotions with the heart not the mind. You feel guilty later. And in fact before things go too much forward he tells Natalia to have a girlfriend. I was really sorry for her in that moment but Samson mans up and calls it quits with Aubrey. I think Aubrey and Samson love each other, they were friends and later a couple since childhood but are not IN love. In my opinion Samson is aware of this and is ready to let her go as girlfriend but Aubrey is not and her fear of losing Samson makes her behave like a bi * ch. And the distance doesn’t help. However I was a bit, but just a little, mad when Samson went back to Aubrey when Natalia broke with him. I know he thinks he lost the one and so, since anyone will be second best, he tried to get together with Aubrey but their relationship was not working anymore much time before Natalia came in the picture! So not a good idea.
When Aubrey talked to Natalia I hoped this last one not to cave in like she did in the beginning but I understand the guilt got the upper hand over her feelings for Samson. It’s not easy to see another one suffer because of you.
About Samson and Natalia they are SO right for each other, when they kiss, talk, fight, laugh.
Samson is a sweet. Funny, flirty, hot…hotter.
I love how the little details in this story make my heart flutter. Every time they hold hands I melt. When Samson kisses her neck I feel over the moon. These little actions speak volume to me. It conveys intimacy, chemistry, love, affection.
Even the second characters leave their mark. Above all Kingsley. She’s sassy, brazen-faced and unique. One moment I hated her, the other she had my heart. She doesn’t follow the rules if not her own ones but even in this case she’s unpredictable! We know she’s gonna be the heroine of the next book in the serie and her hero is the hot Wren. Too many hot guys in this book!
And I’m not even lightly done with Samson and Natalia. I hope the author will write another book about them since I wanna know what happens next in their life after graduating Julliard. I really hope to see them in the next books about Kingsley and Aubrey and let’s hope, but I really have no doubts, she succeeds in redeeming Aubrey in her book showing off her for now hidden qualities.
Crystal Serowka has created great characters you don’t wanna let go and I love her writing style. How to say…it’s delicate but incisive, it goes straight to you heart. I’m astounded by her skills.
In my opinion she’s herself like a ballet dancer when she creates and writes her story.
You see dancers floating in the air and it seems delicate and effortlessly but it requires great skills and hard work and passion to do so. This author has created a story that conveys all the passion that there’s behind what she does.

“You expect me to just stand here and spill my feelings all over this tacky, carpeted floor?”

Fine I will but let me just start by saying I have been attached to this book since Crystal started putting out teasers before it was released and then she shared a fan made trailer and I was like a little kid waiting for Christmas. The minute I started this book I was in love and I was amazed with what Crystal accomplished. The girl definitely does not disappoint and for that I want to kiss her face.

“You can’t go into a relationship knowing the outcome. You’re either going to love someone for the rest of your life or fall out of love.”

Ok so where to start, this was a story about two dancers both in their first year at Juilliard. Although we meet several characters, and the book is written from several POV’s, the main focus is on Natalia and Samson. Both share more than just the same professional goal and throughout the story we really find that out.

Dancing defined who I was. It was my own personal language, and between these walls, everyone was fluent.

We start off meeting Natalia and can I just say I felt for this girl from the first page. She is a true daddy’s girl who had him taken away from her way to soon. Natalia’s mother puts more than a lot of pressure on her. I loved that even with this pressure she had this love for ballet that you could feel. She was so determined to succeed. I loved that she was strong, she was funny and she was real. Yes, she made me cry, she made me mad and I think I fell in love her. Just when I thought she couldn’t be topped Crystal adds Samson in her life and I think I lost my breath.

“From the moment I’d first laid my eyes on him, he was like a virus I couldn’t seem to kick.”

Samson, this boy gives a new meaning to HOT male dancer. Not joking I totally want to sign up to see the boy in tights. He was as broken as Natalia but Samson is that Preppy rich boy you assume was given everything. But as you get to know him you find this loving, caring, disciplined dancer who makes you rethink what you have thought about male dancers. The chemistry between him and Natalia is felt by everyone. They dance as one, and you can feel they belong together. But there is one problem, there is a girlfriend….

“I imagined Samson with Aubrey, lying on his bed, laughing. It hurt me to think of them together.”

Aubrey, she is everything you hate in spoiled, bratty rich girls. We all know them they are played out in every movie we hate, we have seen them in real life. The grown women who throw temper tantrums when life doesn’t do what they have planned. She is one of those characters I wanted to reach in the book and slap hard. I will say I give her props for fighting for her man even if she was maybe pushed to do it. There love is truly a story of a friendship that turned into first love, a love that grows in different directions and now has to learn to let go.

“As I walked toward Natalia, Kingsley came into view and all of my happiness evaporated. I was definitely going to be cock-blocked all night.”

Oh Kingsley my favorite character of the series. She is abrasive and doesn't care what people think about her. She has a hidden past and she has a guard around her hiding her pain and loneliness. I love this girl and I so want more of her story and to see her get her HEA.

This book was everything I wanted, everything I expected and left me with a smile on my face!! It gave me everything I love drama, heartbreak, friendship, and of course passion. It left me wanting to watch Center Stage and wanting my own pair of red pointe shoes (Don’t act like you don’t want a pair.) I also might have placed Samson a little high on my Book boyfriend shelf. That’s right he is now one of my boys and I would prefer if you didn’t touch him to much but you can borrow and believe me you absolutely want to read this and borrow him for a couple nights from me!!

”How do you that?” I asked, out of breath.
“Do what? This?” Samson bent forward and kissed me again, more forceful this time. “Are you done yelling at me or do I need to kiss you some more?”

Ummmm I am thinking you could kiss me one time Samson that would only be fair.

You can read this and other reviews at Madisonsays

I know absolutely nothing about dance. I know nothing of the technique or the endless hours it takes to prefect the art. That didn’t stop me from thoroughly enjoying Crystal Serowka’s debut novel. In fact all the talk of Julliard and NYC made me miss home terribly. I couldn’t help but let a small giggle slip when I read the following line:

“Since I was now a resident of New York City, I would have to become accustomed to bad manners. My family members had warned me that people from New York were rude and full of themselves."

I grew up in good ol’ slightly stinky New Jersey, right over the river. My husband on the other hand, grew up in the city. Thinking of the hustle, bustle and rude people made me yearn to hop on a plain.

Natalia has suffered from great loss in her life. She’s ready to start over and Julliard is just the fresh start she needs. Turns out that her roommate, Kingsley is a sarcastic bitch (for lack of a better term), she gets partnered with Samson, the guy she’s trying to avoid and even though she’s hundreds of miles away, her mother still has the ability to make her feel 2 inches tall.

“It was unfortunate I needed a heart to live. Without a heart, suffering wouldn’t matter.”

Samson’s father does not understand his life choices. He never wanted a son practiced ballet. Julliard had been his dream and while his father didn’t understand, his mother had always secretly encouraged him. He came to New York to find himself.

“Natalia looked at me, and I felt like she was seeing everything I’d hidden from the world. She saw all my broken pieces, but refused to turn away. In that second, I realized she was exactly what I’d been missing in my life.”

Samson and Natalia weren’t looking for one another, but fate had plans of its own. Sometime when you’re not looking, you find exactly what you need.

Let me just say that while I liked the main characters, Kingsley was my absolute favorite. I realize she is basically a giant sarcastic slut, but there is something about that girl that just made me want to be her best friend. She puts it all out there and says it like it is. Her interactions with Natalia left me with a goofy grin on my face. I hope we get to learn more about her story in the near future.

The book was mainly written in the POVs of Natalia and Samson. There was a chapter or two written from the POV of other characters. I’m not entirely sure why that is. I’m assuming that they are to help frame up the next book in the series. I guess we’ll just have to find out.

I was lucky enough to receive an ARC of this sweet book. While it’s not knock your socks off amazing, it is a definitely worth your while to place it on your TBR list. Crystal has a lot of potential as an author and I look forward to reading the next book in this series.

OH MY GOD!!!

I can't wait for this!!!

What a catchy little blurb.

I love it already!!!

xxxxxxx

This will be a very difficult review to write because I couldn’t seem to love it as much as I expected. (As you can see from my excitement before I read it). From the synopsis to the teasers I was so hyped up for it and I am truly sad to say but it didn’t come up to my expectations. There is so much more that ITA could have done. There was poor character development (I wanted more from Natalia and Samson and it was rushed to be honest, if it were given more of a stronger plot, got into the character heads a little more, got to know them, live them, it could have been better. I really wanted to see them fall in love, like I really didn’t see it happen it was like it was told to me. The writing was amateurish to me, needs more work. The writing style didn't sit well with me.

I liked it because it had some potential but it wasn't taken very far with it. Like the plot for one, it could have gone further. Length of the book doesn't really matter if you use all what you can give and let it flow well. So when readers intake it, it stays there. I wanted more, didn't get it. The connections with the main character was really lacking. I felt like I truly didn't get a piece of them while reading, they were hidden but in front of me. I got a little tiny piece but not in depth. I wanted that. I wanted to see more of their dances as partners in practice, their interactions that made them fall for each other, it was like pieces of the puzzle missing. Ballet is a sexy dance form to see and dance if there were more dances with a lot more sexual tension between them both. I would have loved to see that. I wanted to see a little more fulfilling of their dreams, so more family drama, as they claim dealing with, the angst of the characters. These are the reasons that kept me from truly enjoying it.

Let me try ending on a better side and shed the light to the things I really liked where more than 2 POV's besides the main characters, it was a risk to take because it can easily mess up (one thing I need to add is that if there was a little more of Kingsley and Audrey there were only couple chapters of Kingsley and Audrey, it could have been used better). Another thing I liked is Kingsley, she was a real nice treat to have, she obviously wouldn't be most liked with they way she acts but she is like an open book isn't two faced, she doesn't give a care about what people thinks and lives her life the way she wants. I love that. Her personality is so awesome. If there is a book on her, sign me up for it. I would love to read her book. Audrey obviously annoyed me she needs to grow the hell up.

My Verdict? 3 Stars.

This is the first book that I have ever read, where I have cried in the first few pages. Usually it's endings that do that to me but In The Air by Crystal Serowka did what no other book did to me. Such an emotional beginning! Pretty fabulous for Crystal's debut book, if I don't say so myself. The premise of this book drew me in. I have a sweet spot for dancers especially ballet. So I just had to get my hands on this book. It has greatly surpassed my expectations. I loved reading Natalia and Samson's story.

The prologue of the book is where we learn that Natalia's father passed away from cancer. She was very close to him and he believed in her. He pushed her to audition for Julliard. She obviously is accepted and she is very talented. Her mother was her teacher and her relationship with her mother is not as loving as it was with her father. So now she's in New York chasing her dreams. Then bam Samson walks into her life. At first she is repulsed by him. She thinks he is a rude, spoiled, arrogant boy. One thing is for sure they share a love for dance and its tribulations. Samson is attracted to Natalia from the very beginning. They have wonderful chemistry. Samson is a dedicated, talented dancer. He has some family issues as well. A less than supportive father. Another thing he is totally swoon worthy. I absolutely adore his name, and very fitting for his character. Samson are very different from each other. They come from different backgrounds. Natalia is very frugal, where Samson doesn't have to be. But in the end his heart wrenching smile wins Natalia over in the end.

They have plenty ups and downs. Mistakes are made during this time. They both work themselves into each others heart. Sampson really is such a sweet, good person. The perfect match for Natalia. She needs someone to pick her up when she is down. He is so good at comforting her. I loved those moments where he wanted to wipe her tears away. He is always there to talk when she needs it. She is not like anyone he has ever met. His perfect match on and off the dance floor. They challenge one another like no one else can.

To sum it up In the Air is a beautifully written story of growing up and finding love when you least expect it. Making difficult decisions and some sacrifices to be happy. Giving someone you love your all and not giving up on them. I highly recommend you read this wonderful love story. Another plus is the other characters in the book namely Kingsley(Natalia's witty room mate) and Wren(Samson's intellectual best friend) they are very nice additions to the story. I am looking forward to learning more of their story as well. You won't want to miss it.

"I'm not falling for you, Natalia. I've already fallen."

I was so excited when I found out that I won an e-ARC of this book from Crystal! I had been anticipating it's release for months since I first discovered it last year! This book was amazing! I haven't really read a lot of books about dancers so I wasn't really sure what to expect but this book will leave you tingling! Crystal describes the dancing beautifully! I could picture it in my head as I read and it was truly an amazing experience! The plot was about so much more than just dancing though! It is about characters trying to find themselves and about them releasing what they really want in life! The plot was absolutely amazing and I thoroughly enjoyed it! I have to say though that I would have loved for this book to have been a bit longer! I was really getting into it and then I realised that I was about 50% through it and then I tried to slow down while reading the rest but I honestly couldn't! The plot could also have been developed more had it been longer as well! This is the only sort of bad thing that I can say about this book but it may just be a personal thing to be honest as if I really get into a book then I tend to read it far too quickly! The characters were amazing! Natalia was one of the main characters and I loved her! I loved how determined she was to make it in the ballet world and that she wouldn't let anything stand in the way until Samson came along and changed everything! Samson was the hot love interest of Natalia and the other main character! I loved him! I didn't like that he kept it a secret that he had a girlfriend from Natalia though! Samson wasn't like other guys in books that I have read! He was softer and didn't really have a tough side to him but when he was with Natalia you saw the glimmer of a bad boy start to appear! Natalia and Samson as a couple were on fire! Sparks flew when they were together! I had no idea that this book was written from four different point of views and I wasn't expecting it! It is mostly written from Natalia and Samson's point of views but some chapters were written from Natalia's friend, Kingsley and Samson's girlfriend, Aubrey's point of views! I did enjoy getting to go into the other characters heads though! I am really looking forward to the next book in this series as this book really was amazing! The cover is also very beautiful! I fell in love with it as soon as I saw it! Big thank you to Crystal for an ARC of In the Air!

Between her classes, dance rehearsal and not to mention an irresistible, annoying dance partner, Natalia has too much on her plate already.

Samson is a ballet dancer – ayeee. I can’t believe it. Him. Male. Ballet. Stereotyping, I know. But I can’t help it. Nevertheless, I loved his passion for dance. He had pursued it despite the fact that he had only the support of his mother. Both his girlfriend and his father didn’t want him to go to New York. Suddenly, his girlfriend, Aubrey, whom he knew since he was young starts to change. It didn’t help that he was paired with a feisty dancer who shares his passion.

They had chemistry in and out of the dance floor. But first, before he starts to go into THAT direction – he needed to come clean. He has Aubrey. He had no right to kiss her.

He didn’t want to hurt Aubrey, but he didn’t want to stay into a relationship he wasn’t happy about. The moment he ended it with Aubrey, he starts to spend time with Natalia.

Did it start to feel like a rebound? Actually, no. It was like they were really meant for each other. Not only that they love dancing, but when they were together, you can actually see fireworks all over the place. They have roamed NY, and spend a lot of time together. Just when everything seems to fall into place, the ex came into the picture and once again ruined everything. Will they get pass through this? I really hope so. I want to see them dance together.

I have wanted to read this book the first time I have seen it on Amazon. It has an interesting blurb that had me curious. Nevertheless, it had met with my expectations. I enjoyed reading this book, watching chemistry fly between these two dances, and finally watching FINALLY make the right decisions and fall in love.

My initial thoughts on ‘In the Air’ are that as a debut novel it was very well written and a breath of fresh air as far as the setting was concerned. I loved that this was set in the world of dance. I would have liked more of the dance scenes as they were written beautifully.

This story is about Samson and Natalia yet we also get to hear other characters voices, however, I want this review to be about Samson and Natalia as despite the additional POV’s this was their story.

Did I think having that many voices affected the story? Yes, unfortunately I did considering the length and how rushed the story became. I think it had a negative impact on the character development and as I didn’t get to know our main characters because of the lack of time spent in their heads, I did not feel much of a connection.

I wish I could have spent more time getting to know them individually before knowing them as a couple. I struggled with their ‘insta’ relationship considering what Samson left behind, it didn’t come across believable nor did the passion and intensity come across in the pursuit. The sensuality of dance in the build up between them would have been beautiful to experience as a reader.

I loved Kingsley, she was a bit of a cow but I liked that there were obviously two sides to her and I can’t wait to hear more about her and why she is the way she is. I just hope she gets a book and that her voice is written so that we really get under her skin. This is one I will definitely look forward to read.

I loved the emotional moments in this story in regards to the prejudices against male dancers which are even worse when it comes from the people who are meant to love you and nourish your growth like your parents. Then we have the other side of the coin where the parental pressure to succeed is highlighted. Both leave marks and spark insecurities and self-doubts which came across for both characters.

So, overall I enjoyed In the Air, it was a good read but it could have been great and that saddens me. However, I have no doubt this Author will grow and combine that with her obvious writing skills I can’t wait to read more.

This was a nice read. For me it was quick, but still entertaining. I loved the dance element. I have a history in dance & in a perfect world, I'd dream of being a professional, so this was perfect for me.

Summary:
Natalia has been accepted to Juilliard. This is a dream come true for her. Her passion for dance and the emotions she puts into it are breathtaking and keep her whole. She grew up dancing and had a loving, supportive father and an overbearing, uncaring mother. after losing her father to cancer, Natalia misses the support she used to have, but auditions for her dream school to keep her promise to her father to follow her dreams. On the first day, she runs into Samson. Samson's family is affluent and snobby. He is not close to his father because his father disagrees with his passion for dance, and his mother is secretly supportive so as not to anger his father. Samson also has a girlfriend, Aubrey. They have been together almost all their lives, but lately the feeling of love has faded and Samson only feels unhappy. Despite their different lives, the instant spark between the pair is undeniable. It scares Natalia because she doesn't want to get her heart broken, and confuses Sam because he should love Aubrey and he can't reconcile his feelings. After spending time with Natalia and kissing her a couple of times, he breaks things off with Aubrey. Although he fears never having Aubrey in his life, he knows it's whats best for both of them. Aubrey is furious and refuses to give up. Nat and Sam start to take things slow. They are growing closer until Nat gets a surprise visit from Aubrey. Nat and Sam will have to work at trusting in their feelings and each other in order to avoid losing a possibly great love.

Nat was sweet. She was still grieving, but trying to be strong and follow her dreams. She was spunky and beautiful inside and out, especially her passion for dance. Samson is so sensitive and sincere. Despite everyone around him bringing him down, he's still open about his passion for dance and brilliant at it. I hated Aubrey. I thought she was spoiled. She only cared what her father wanted. I can't wait for Kingsley and Wren's book. They seem an unlikely pair, but I feel a story there. <3

Read this book as an ARC for review. I read this book without knowing a lot of what it was about. Quickly, I discovered that the story behind the story, the death of Natalia's father to cancer, was going to be an integral part of the story line. Natalia struggles with her controlling mother, her father's death, meeting a cute co-ed, a new roommate, as well as the demands of being at Juilliard and wanting to be the best of the best in class.

The first day Natalia arrives at school, she meets Samson, the arrogant, self-assured co-ed. When she sees him in class later, and then paired up with him, she struggles with the conflicting feelings she has for him.

Samson is a young man with demons of his own. He has a girlfriend, Aubrey, but after meeting Natalia, he wonders if there's more there.

Then there's Natalia's mother and father. Neither are in the book very much, but both make a huge impact on Natalia. Her mother only appears to care about Natalia's dancing, not able to be the mom that Natalia wants. Her father's death has deeply impacted the things that she does. She misses him terribly, and feels a huge hole with the loss.

Crystal Serowka's debut novel had me interested from the start. I related to Natalia, with her sense of loss, trying to find herself, and her need for connection. I felt like her characters were people I could identify with in some way, despite the fact that I'm not a ballerina, nor did I go to a specialized school such as Juilliard. I think one of my favorite characters had to be Kingsley, and I really was interested in learning her back story (perhaps in another book??). I was challenged with Samson, however, because on the surface, he appears to be an arrogant rich-boy. When we get to know him more, he becomes more loveable.

This book had me smiling, had me wanting to throw my Kindle, and had me not wanting to stop reading. Serowka was able to weave a well-written story that had me engaged, interested, and had me wishing I could be a prima ballerina. This first novel was enjoyable and I look forward to the next she has to offer!
