Arie Reynolds is a strong willed, independent woman. Her life as a stuntwoman in movies is enough to keep her fulfilled. After nearly losing her life in an accident, she finds that she has a new “ability” – one that allows her to cross into a parallel reality. When she’s once again faced with her mortality, she must decide how she’ll use her ability — will it save her life or will she end up losing the one thing that matters most?
Cole Mercer is a charming firefighter who’s used to getting what he wants out of life, until he fell for Arie. Through the difficulties of her career and a seemingly impossible choice, can Arie make the right choice? Can Cole tame this spitfire’s heart or will he be the one that ends up getting burned?
Kate is the author of Worlds Apart, Hiding in Plain Sight, and Spitfire of The Silver Oaks Series. Be on the lookout for her fourth novel, Awake, but Still Dreaming. This is her autobiography about overcoming a brain tumor. Coming soon!
Kate lives in Arizona with her husband and three children. She enjoys reading, writing, and spending time with her family and friends.
Wow where to start. Well Spitfire is the third and final book in the Silver Oaks series. It is mainly about Arie, a stunt woman, and Cole, but also features a lot of Palmer and Brant. This series is primarily a romance but has a cool supernatural twist that I love. Arie and Palmer actually live in parallel worlds where little changes or choices cause their worlds to be different from each other. At the end of the previous novel Palmer, Cole, and Graham were the only ones that could jump between worlds. So basically it's awesome.
Arie is definitely a spitfire and I loved her interactions with Cole. But I also loved her vulnerable side. As much as I loved Arie I enjoyed seeing Palmer and Brant's relationship develop more. They were just the all round sweet couple who you really rooted for. Plus their first date was just soo cute I might have awed out loud haha. It was also great to see Pip and the two Joes and story lines from the first book come back.
The only thing negative I will say about this book is that it's the last one haha. I devoured this series. I had a hard time putting them down and I wish they could continue for more books...see more generations of the families...with more mysteries and suspense along the way. But I guess all good things must come to an end and this one did so wonderfully. Can't wait to read more by Kate. She always writes strong women that I love automatically :).
All of our favorite characters are back here, minus the one we lost in the first book. We get more of Palmer’s story and all of Arie’s. I LOVED it! Kate’s writing is just as awesome in this book as it is in the previous two. I’ve said before I’ve wondered what goes on her mind to come up with this series with parallel universes and how they integrate together, how there is so much the same in both worlds except for the jumpers. I don’t know how she does it, but the result is perfect. I love Arie, I love Cole, I love Palmer, Brant, Graham, Lilly, Joe, Pip, all of them. The best dialogue is when the twins are interacting with some of the other characters at the same time. You will laugh.
I LOVE the strength of Arie’s personality and I really wish I had her nerve sometimes.
Wait until you see the surprise. There is one. Without giving spoilers, I will just say, it ties some things up and adds another angle to this series that enhances it even more.
There is absolutely nothing I can say in criticism of this book, not even that I want more, because there’s this excerpt in the back for a new book, Broken, where Arie’s best friend is the lead and that gives me more. So excited for that one!
I’m going to add that this one is definitely not for the under 18 set. Just like her other books, Kate gives us some steam between the main characters. Steam is good. Kate is good at writing it.
I think Arie is going on my girl crushes shelf. I kind want to be her, minus the heartache the poor thing has gone through.
Kate, you hit another home run, but there was never any doubt in my mind.
I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
Arie has spent her life being angry over the things she's lost: her mother when she was 5, her Aunt Pip, and being the only person in her family without a special "ability". She's angry at her family for what they have that she doesn't. Arie grows into a mouthy, opinionated, and fiercely independent woman. She's made a career as a stuntwoman in Hollywood, just another way to show that a woman can out do a man any day.
"Losing her mom at such a young age and then not being able to see the woman who had become like an aunt to her had hollowed her out, made her feel like an empty shell. On the exterior, she was tough as nails. But on the inside, she still felt like the little girl struggling to figure out who she really was."
Arie isn't interested in love. Her best friend Brock as wanted to be more than friends for years but she just can't let that wall down. Family secrets are revealed that leaves Arie even more angry and feeling cheated.
Graham's expression softened and he quietly asked, "Sick of what?"
Arie's breath hitched in her chest. "Of people leaving me all of the time. Of people dying, getting hurt or sick, leaving me behind. Why do you think I'm so bitchy sometimes?"
Enter Cole Mercer. He's hot, cocky, and just the guy who's up for the challenge that is Arie. Cole is a guy who is use to getting who and what he wants. He quickly learns that Arie is not your typical woman and no amount of charm will work on her. Rather than Arie's not so feminine ways sending him packing, it makes Cole want her even more.
"I can't explain it. I usually have women falling over me but not Arie. She doesn't seem to want to give me the time of day.
When Arie nearly loses her life, and someone unexpected steps in to save her, she is forced to take a look at her priorities and choose what is really important to her. Can she figure it all out before it's too late?
Arie was a hard character for me to identify with. She's brazen and seems to have no filter between her mind and her mouth. Getting to know her better I found that it's more of a defense mechanism she's developed over time to protect herself. She's never made amends or come to terms with the huge losses she's endured in her life. She hides that vulnerable, sad, little girl deep down inside. She definitely met her match when it came to Cole. He can be just as hot headed as Arie and just as stubborn. Arie surprises Cole, keeps him guessing, and challenges him.
Palmer, Arie's half sister is the exact opposite of Arie. She's kind, giving, generous, and very loving. Finding out about her was really hard on Arie and Palmer's very existence was a tough pill to swallow. When things get tough, Arie finds out that Palmer just may be exactly what she needs. Brant, Cole's younger brother, is as different from Cole as Palmer is from Arie. He's had feelings for Palmer and when he finally gets the courage to ask her out it's instant chemistry.
The way the people in this book are all tied together makes my heart swell with warm fuzzies. I just want to take all the characters and force them into a giant group hug, although Arie would have none of it. The entire Silver Oaks Series took me by surprise and stole a piece of my heart. I read the entire series in a day and a half. I couldn't put them down! These are stories of love and loss, surviving and enduring, letting go and moving on. 5 stars!!

About the Author Kate lives in Arizona with her husband and three children. She enjoys reading, writing, and spending time with her family and friends.
Fun Facts about Kate: I've been skydiving and have flown a small airplane. My dad's a pilot and I've taken a plane off numerous times. I'm an adventure junkie and love the thrill of roller coasters and anything that moves high and fast. I can't get enough of sweets and often have dessert after breakfast. I don't drink coffee or tea. I'm a night owl and tend to stay up every night until midnight even during the week. My family and friends always come first and I'm dedicated to other's happiness almost to a fault.
The whole series just captivated me but I think this is the best of the series. I love them all but Spitfire is my FAVE in the The Silver Oaks Series.
Arie can be hot tempered but she owns it and she does not take shit from anyone and I mean anyone… She's a total bad-ass!!!
Some people might misjudged her but, there’s a reason why she’s the way she is. I really like her relationship with Cole, from the beginning, all the way to the end of the book. I think he’s so right for her and he keeps her grounded. Their chemistry is electrifying though at times, I feel he literally wants to electrocute Arie because of his frustration ;) Hahaha
Though Arie is my fave and though I can relate to her in some extent (I’m not a stunt woman, would love to be though!), I fell in love too with Palmer and Brant. Love their story how touching their vows are… They are such a sweet couple and Palmer is the best sister anyone could have!
So… let me break it down… Oh Spitfire… How do I love thee let me count the ways…
1. Arie is just awesome! And, like what I said earlier she’s a total bad-ass. (I love it every time a heroine is a bad ass)!!! 2. I love Arie’s relationship with her family and especially with her brother Graham and how supportive they are of each other. 3. Love the witty banter that all the characters have. Love the sarcasm and everything felt real. Some parts l feel like the way I talked to my husband hahaha 4. Love the other supporting characters from Palmer and Brant to Graham and Lily. Their families and of course who can forget Liz!?! 5. Love of course the concept of this series with the parallel reality and all. This book is all-in-one!!! Romance, Sci-fi and a bit of suspense! And, did I say it has the steam factor too??? Oh-yeah!?!
***So FIVE FREAKING STARS!***
Kinda felt bad for Brock but I’m glad that he’s going to get his HEA??? So can’t wait for his book! I’m sure it’s going to be grand! I recommend this book to everyone! I do recommend also that you read the first two of the series before diving into this book. This is the third and final instalment in the Silver Oaks Series and follows mainly Arie's story, but we are treated to Palmer's story in detail as well. I really like Kate's writing and was eagerly looking forward to this book.
Arie is such a strong, sassy, snarky character and I loved her quick-wittedness and interactions with the other characters. She was so careful about who she let into her life and even then she didn't show her friends everything. She had had a lot of heartache to deal with over the years and it had hardened her resolve not to get hurt, not realising that shutting herself off wasn't fulfilling her either. Her life as a stunt woman was face-paced and full of action just like her personality. She took no prisoners and it took a equally strong personality in Cole to forge a relationship with her. "Everyone has baggage Arie. There are things that have happened in my past that have shaped who I am today. You either decide to let those things define you and who you are or you learn to control them."
Cole has had his own share of heartache and can understand Arie's position more than she realises. They both complimented each other I thought, and I really loved their banter. "Say that you need me." "I don't need you. Maybe like a skin needs a rash...."
Actually, I loved the banter between all the characters throughout this book. The secondary characters all had their part to play and I connected with all of them. They each had their own unique personalities and we saw just enough of their lives to keep the characters connected. In particular, I am so glad that we got to see Palmer's story as well. It was great to see the development of her character and how it intertwined with Arie's. The way their relationship matured was emotional and well written.
Throughout this book, as with the first two books, there are twists and turns, intriguing you till the end; heart stopping, emotional, tear jerking scenes;steamy love scenes, tender moments and blossoming relationships; situations crossing over into each parallel reality and back again which kept me turning the pages. Only on a few occasions did I feel it moving too quickly from one moment to the next, where I would have liked a softer transition, but overall I found the two realities easy to follow. The epilogue was a perfect end to this series and I am happy to see a spin-off series with Brock as the lead coming soon. It will definitely be on my tbr list.

3.5* Review
This is the third and final book in the series and I found myself connecting more with this book than the other two in regards to the characters.
Arie is quite aptly a spitfire. She has a sharp tongue and is a kick ass stunt woman by day. She holds a lot of resentment inside and is scared of anyone getting close to her as she has had more than her fair share of loss.
Palmer is weary of Arie as Arie hasn’t had a good response to finding out Palmer is her half sister. Regardless of this Palmer still sticks around like a true sister.
The supporting characters and their POV’s add to the storyline. I was slightly concerned with the number of characters having their own voices that the storyline would get lost in the sea of voices but Kate managed to keep them all in line.
Although I did enjoy this book I found that it didn’t flow quite right with the language used and I was reading the words off the ‘page’ rather than being submerged and experiencing the book. It was just a bit stiff and wooded for me.
This book was definitely the best of the series. So much smart-ass comments, love it! This book was mainly about Arie, and her relationship with Palmer. We see a lot of Palmer but not alot of the other characters from books 1 &2. There are some semi-steamy sex scenes, cool. Definitely, some personality from Palmer in this book. Arie was such a kick-ass here, we do see her personality change-but not too much. I'm glad Ms. Mathis did not try to change Arie much throughout this book, it just wouldn't have been right. And of course, this wouldn't be great without the little surprises sprung at us throughout this book. I really enjoyed this book the most out of the three! And thank you Ms. Mathis for that little preview of Brock's story at the end!!! I received this book in exchange for an honest review.
I normally don’t read books with paranormal aspects, but I really enjoyed this book because it was romance and supernatural. This is the third and final book in the Silver Oaks Series. The story focused a lot on Arie and also showed us a lot of Palmer. I really liked Arie’s spitfire personality and her interactions with Cole. 4.5 stars. Great read! ~Kendra
I loved this book! I've had it on my kindle for a while, and recently made myself read it. I am so glad I did. I've never been a big fan of paranormal, but when I read this series I forget I am reading paranormal. I got so into the story, and reading about all the characters, it was hard to stop reading. Arie is indeed, a spitfire, and not many people could handle her, except for her family and Cole. I loved reading about Palmer and Brant too. I am definitely going to put Kate's next book on my TBR list.
