There is little about me that isn't already available at Facebook or Linkedin, or countless other places.
Poet, writer, construction worker, salesman, truck driver, climber into the attics of total strangers, father and husband, and all around one of the luckiest men on the planet.
My luck continued with wins in the June 2013, December 2014 and April 2016 Goodreads Newsletter Poetry Contest! What an honor!
Since 2008, the poets I have met thru Shelfari, Goodreads (especially the gang at Poetry) and Ablemuse, and now most strikingly, the professor, Al Filreis, his staff and TAs and my fellow 30,000 plus students at the University of Pennsylvania (thru Coursera) have impacted me, and encouraged me to try new things in the world of Poetry.
I suppose I will always be the simple southern country boy I have always been, with a folksy edge to everything I do. But I am stretching a little, and it seems to be well received.
Anthony Watkins' poetry is easy to read, as good poetry should always be. We read poems to look at our lives with fresh perspective, and the best of them cause us to think, "Yes, that is just the way it is! Why hadn't I thought of that before?" Watkins' poems are accessible and fluid, requiring neither a dictionary alongside nor an encyclopedia of mythology, perhaps just a cup of coffee and time for reflection. This collection covers years, and so the poetry grows as the poet has grown. I have read the same poems in earlier incarnations, and am delighted to see this format available to a wider audience.
