Some stories don’t rush to grip you. They take your hand, lead you quietly through shadows, and make you feel everything you’ve been trying to forget. " The Brown Sunshine" by Arvind Rishi is one of those rare books that stays with you long after the last page. It’s haunting yet tender, unsettling yet filled with warmth in the strangest places.

The story follows Anthony Biswas, a forensic pathologist who seems to have it all together on the surface, but inside he’s barely holding on. A tragic accident during a school trip to Darjeeling changes everything, leaving him with memories no one else recalls. People he loved, moments he swears happened they’ve vanished, as if they never existed. What begins as confusion slowly spirals into something darker and more painful, as Anthony tries to make sense of a world that no longer makes sense to him.

Arvind Rishi writes with such honesty that you don’t just read Anthony’s pain — you feel it in your bones. The writing isn’t heavy or dramatic; it’s quiet, introspective, and deeply humane. Every line feels like a whisper from someone who understands what it means to carry invisible grief. There’s something so raw about the way Rishi captures loneliness not as emptiness, but as a space where you slowly start to find yourself again.

This book isn’t only about trauma or memory. It’s about the human mind fragile, unpredictable, and so achingly beautiful in its chaos. It’s about guilt, love, and that constant ache to hold on to something that’s already slipping away. The more you read, the more you realise it’s not just Anthony’s story it’s every person’s quiet battle to be remembered, to be seen, to be understood.

When I finished reading, I just sat there for a while not sad, but heavy in a strangely peaceful way. " The Brown Sunshine" doesn’t give you neat answers or dramatic closure. It gives you something more real , acceptance. The kind that hurts first, then slowly starts to heal.

This isn’t a book you pick up and move on from. It’s one you live with, one that finds a place somewhere deep in your chest and refuses to leave. It reminds you that even in the darkest corners of memory, there’s still light ,faint, trembling, but enough to guide you home.

Human brain is wonderful. It can do wonders if it's directed properly, but it can be the most dangerous one if it is misused. There comes in our psychological thrillers. This is one of such books set up in an Indian background. This is the first one I picked up for the year.

The story moves around Anthony Biswas, is a successful forensic pathologist. He is known to push away everyone in his life, except his memories. Memories of a horrific accident in a school trip to Darjeeling that traumatized him and his 4 friends. As each one of them goes through different stages of grief, Biswas doesn't move on. He keeps running in circles. This incident has a great impact on him. There are people who now exist only in his memories and no one other than him remembers them. This is a journey of mind. The protagonist is stuck with emotions and past, he is into a deep slumber. We see a whole lot of emotions and thoughts of the protagonist and how he deals with them.

The book is full of turns. They are quite subtly introduced in the story and the reality fuses with the dreams. It is difficult to distinguish between the self talks and conversations at a point. What I was impressed with the most was the flow of the writing! Everything is gelled together and I whizzed through the book. This is a type of book which I can read whenever or wherever I am. Use of lucid language always make a beginner feel comfortable and you will feel comfortable while reading this book. If you are thinking of trying this genre, you can go for this book.

The brown sunshine by Arvind Rishi is a really engaging psychological thriller that kept me on my toes. With all the emotional turmoil, the roller coaster of suspense and emotions , the turns and reveals of the past at each turn, all of this really made me a fan of this story.
The story is of Anthony Biswas , a forensic pathologist, who faces the ghosts of his past. Some incident happened in his past revolving around him and his four friends that changed the way and perspective of Anthony. He became more withdrawn, more haunted and deeply rooted in his grief to move out of it.
Then the present situation arises making him reopen the pages of past and solve the mystery of his past to either get a closure or to completely destroy himself in the process.
The story is the real definition of apge turning. The book cover is mysterious and the word building is good . A really interesting read.

"The Brown Sunshine" by Arvind Rishi is a psychological thriller that delves into the complex psyche of Anthony Biswas, a successful forensic pathologist haunted by a traumatic incident from his past. Rishi's storytelling in this novel is nothing short of mesmerizing, as he artfully weaves a narrative that blurs the lines between reality and dreams.

The protagonist, Anthony Biswas, is a deeply flawed character whose pain and isolation are palpable throughout the story. Rishi skillfully portrays his inner turmoil, making readers empathize with his struggles to cope with the haunting memories of a traumatic school trip to Darjeeling. This central event serves as the catalyst for a series of events that lead Biswas down a dark and surreal rabbit hole.

One of the most intriguing aspects of it is its exploration of memory and the idea of loved ones disappearing from everyone's recollection except for the protagonist. Rishi raises thought-provoking questions about the nature of memory, identity, and the choices that shape our lives. This thematic depth adds layers of complexity to the story and keeps readers engaged in its philosophical undertones.

Rishi's prose is poetic and evocative, painting vivid imagery of both the waking world and the dreamscapes that Biswas navigates. The blending of these two realms adds an eerie and surreal atmosphere to the narrative, enhancing the overall sense of mystery and disorientation.

As the story unfolds, readers are taken on a journey that challenges their perceptions of reality and forces them to confront existential truths. The unraveling of the mystery is executed with precision, and the answers are indeed more horrifying than the questions posed at the beginning of the story. Rishi masterfully builds tension and suspense, keeping readers on the edge of their seats until the very end.

It is not just a psychological thriller; it's a profound exploration of human nature, trauma, and the choices that define us. It invites readers to reflect on the nature of memory, the impact of our decisions, and the fragility of our existence. It's a novel that lingers in the mind long after the final page.

‘Happy Endings are the lies we tell ourselves when we have everything to lose. He has nothing.’

Life is so unpredictable when it comes to our memories and past event. Sometimes we cherish it like no other moment but on many other occasions, they hunt us for the worst. Term it psychological or an illusion but it plays an important role in our life.

Biswas who is a forensic pathologist has a troubled mind as he is hunted by past incidents. He is living a life of no meaning as he felt it's a dual life and he is unable to differentiate between the both. His journey of finding himself and his side-by-side work profession creates more havoc in his already messed up life. For him, every moment reminds him of the past and that's not allowing him to move forward and lead a better-settled peaceful life.

Rishi's story has given me a perfect blend of mystery, thriller, suspense, pain, hope, and despair. The way he has developed every piece of this story tells you the talent of the author and how proudly he possesses his command over imagination. The way scenes are described and planned will give you unpredictable results and you will not be able to guess it till the last page. The depth is very strong and intriguing. The suspense build-up is commendable. This book is a page-turner and will keep you on the edge throughout.

Overall it's a must-read with promising entertainment and a mind-blowing end.

Do you feel your mind is always replaying moments you wish you could forget?

Anthony Biswas, a successful forensic pathologist, life is full of grief, guilt and loneliness. He is living a dual life where on one hand he is brilliant guy but also drowning into anxiety, trauma and pain of some horrific memories. His school trip to Darjeeling that changed everything for him and his four friends.

While his friends moved on or at least shows that they have recovered , Anthony stayed stuck, he was feeling trapped in the same loop of pain. His reality starts to distort and he claimed to feel and experience the dead as real l. He lived in the world of death the living.

The Brown Sunshine is a psychological thriller which brings out it’s a sensitive and intimate picture of mental health, memory, and the way trauma long sits deep in human mind much after it the incident happens. Its about grief that becomes your own shadow, guilt that shapes into figures and the mind that start to feel like loosing itself in this never ending battle.

The book captures the heaviness and depth of loneliness, one that you feel even when you’re surrounded by people but completely alone inside but you continue to keep the spark of hope alive in that darkness.

The Brown Sunshine is emotionally raw anda a thought-provoking narrative, definitely a must have addition for your TBR

Grief is a thing with thorns and wings. Wings so it can fly all the time in your subconscious and thorns so it could gouge the pieces of your heart and soul slowly, one chunk at a time. A deep-seated trauma can make you so unhinged that you find yourself being dragged into the swirls of memories, disappointment and pessimism. A tornado of helplessness and hopelessness grips you in its claws, sinking the razor sharp talons deep, vowing to never let go. This is what happens to Anthony Biswas in Arvind Rishi's striking debut 'The Brown Sunshine'. Grappling with a trauma that occurred in childhood, he finds it difficult to shake off the dark memories.

The prologue is a harrowing interaction between the characters. It shows the intensity of the things to come. The author maintains the high voltage stakes throughout, without losing the layering of the story. This is a story that subsumes two dark wells of despair and darkness: first its protagonist and the second is the redemption he seems out. The author has rooted the story deep in the darkness of mystery and human complexities. With every passing revelation, more darkness emerges from the depth of the story, egging the reader on and on. I loves it how the author has used the interaction between the characters to propel the story forward. Have a look:
"There are elements of reality that are missing from our story. Elements beyond human abilities of perception or imagination. Yet we tell it like it is. There is something evil in this land. Expanding across all our lives like a puddle of grimy water. Covering the sky in these gloomy silver-blues. A stoic darkness that is moving very little and very slowly. But it is. And I have this bad feeling that we're all going to get hunted down, eventually, one by one."

The writing, in many passages and pages, flickers like a flame, words burning themselves upon my reader's palate while I try and not let my wings singe like a common moth.
Thick with drama of real emotions, the story imitates life up to an extent. Have a look:
"Once my heart was on fire for her, but now the wind had caught hold of its ashes, swirling up in the sky and singing a melody I couldn't comprehend. Cinders that should have been blossoms touched her softest face. All it was, then, was macabre confetti rising with the muffling wind, burning me down."

The author takes time setting up the story. Instead of jumping straight into the story, he takes time to set up the atmospherics and weave the story tightly around the characters that will matter as the story progresses. Have a look at the mindset of the character:
"Memories collapsed onto me like a crumbling deck of cards. All at once, or none at all. My judicious palace of fabrications and deception crumbled under this place's pressure. I had to face it. Or maybe not. It wasn't always necessary to come face-to-face with all your demons. Not because you're afraid you'll lose, but rather because you know you want to. There are demons you can't win over. It's wiser to run away, pretend you're someone else, drown them under strenuous work, a hectic lifestyle, and generous quantities of whisky."

Rishi exerts a tight control on the elements of the story, balancing pace with the emotions, walking a tight rope of keeping reader's interest in the story while helping the main characters evolve at a comfortable pace. He skillfully sets the characters up, pushing them into twists and turns slowly but surely. I loved his prose. Have a look:
Life has a way of pulling you down onto its rock flooring, Wherein you would have no reason to get up, no strength left to let a sigh out. You think backwards, in 'what ifs' and 'why me?' I wasn't just lying on that rock bottom; I was repeatedly hitting my head against it, submerging within a pool of my own blood. But this wasn't the scary part. It was the fact that I liked the melody that my head made on the rocky floor."

As the story progresses, the author builds up emotion and drama, and throws the characters into the mix. The reader can't help build a bridge of empathy with the lives of these people. An emotional cord is immediately hooked and it continues until the last page is turned over.

Come find this thrilling gem this festive season.

🥀 It is not just on your shelf; it waits for you in the shadows, whispering about a tragedy that everyone else has conveniently forgotten. Set in the cold, mist-heavy hills of Darjeeling and the sterile silence of a Bangalore morgue, this is a book about the secrets we keep from the world and the ones we accidentally keep from ourselves.

🥀 A quiet, haunting invitation to look into this damp book and the characters shares a drifting line among us. This story starts with Anthony Biswas, a forensic pathologist who spends his days dissecting the dead because they are the only ones who don't lie to him and his dramatic behaviour. He is actually a man living on the edge of a bottle and the edge of his own mind.

🥀 Years ago, a school trip to the Himalayan region ended in an accident - no no, not a normal one! It claimed the lives of his classmates - or did it? As the anniversary of that event nears, Anthony's reality begins to crack. He remembers faces that aren't in the school photos and voices that his surviving friends swear never existed.

🥀 This turns into a high stakes game of mental hide-and-seek and seek. Is he uncovering a massive, decades-old-cover-up or is he simply losing his grip on the present? I felt that fragile mind, unspoken words, loneliness as well as emptiness.

𝐈𝐟 𝐚𝐧𝐲 𝐦𝐨𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐩𝐢𝐯𝐨𝐭𝐞𝐝 𝐦𝐞 𝐭𝐨 𝐛𝐞𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐚 𝐛𝐞𝐭𝐭𝐞𝐫 𝐩𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐨𝐧, 𝐭𝐞𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐞𝐝 𝐦𝐞 𝐭𝐨 𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐬 𝐩𝐥𝐚𝐧𝐞 𝐨𝐟 𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐲, 𝐨𝐫 𝐦𝐨𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐝 𝐦𝐞 𝐭𝐨 𝐛𝐞𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐞 𝐚𝐧 𝐢𝐦𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐯𝐞𝐝 𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐨𝐟 𝐦𝐲𝐬𝐞𝐥𝐟, 𝐢𝐭 𝐰𝐚𝐬 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐦𝐨𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐈 𝐟𝐞𝐥𝐥 𝐢𝐧 𝐥𝐨𝐯𝐞 𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐡 𝐡𝐞𝐫. 𝐇𝐨𝐰 𝐜𝐨𝐮𝐥𝐝 𝐈 𝐧𝐨𝐭 𝐥𝐨𝐯𝐞 𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐲𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐬𝐡𝐞 𝐰𝐚𝐬?

🥀 This book actually presents that blurry state where memory and hallucination become indistinguishable. That's why this book isn't a typical “whodunnit” where a detective finds a bloody glove; it is an existential thriller where the protagonist is both the hunter and the prey. The author Arvind Rishi has crafted a debut that feels like a dream but with a chilling fever - one that stays with you long after the lights are turned off.

What if your loved ones disappear and nobody remembers them, except you?
Like they never existed, except in your memories.

"The Brown Sunshine" by Arvind Rishi, is a psychological thriller rooted in India, invites it's readers to embark on an emotional journey filled with hope and despair, introspection and extrospection, some newfound wisdom and a dash of insanity.
___
Genre: #thriller #suspense #crime #mystery #psychologicalthriller
🙋🏻‍♀The author created a world which was a blend of fiction, mythology and philosophy. We encounter varied colours of human psyche & emotions of love, loss and redemption.
___
The writing style needs to be talked about, the foremost. It's lyrical, something like a flowing river which touches both prose and poetry as it goes along it path, unbothered, engrossed in its own music. The narrative keeps us on our toes, by constantly hopping between timelines and also with it's suspense as to what and how something landmark happened, many years ago, which causes Biswas to grieve and is taxing his mental health.
The story reiterates the need to grieve upon a loss, to heal, to move on & to get professional help for mental health issues instead of taking help of various kind of sedatives.
The book is full of quotes/ lines worth highlighting, peppered throughout the read. We get a few illustrations to.
The musings of a grieving mind, get vague at times & I wish the pace to be a bit faster.
Eventually you get impatient and want it all to end, the confusion, the suspense and the turmoil. The end sure makes you sit for a minute, trying to connect the dots. It was mind boggling, to say the least.

This is what you need with a coffee for the thriller winter feel..

[FROM THE BOOK - "A old man claimed to have cured Arora of darkness by performing an inhumane surgery. Arora hadn't gained consciousness. he probably never will"]

The Brown Sunshine by Arvind Rishi

Some books don’t just tell a story they hold you still and make you question things you never gave much thought to. The Brown Sunshine is one such book. It’s haunting, emotional, and deeply human.

The story follows Anthony Biswas, a forensic pathologist who seems to have everything figured out on the outside but inside, he’s a man broken by something that happened long ago. A school trip to Darjeeling, a single incident, and the shadow it left behind… these moments never really leave him.

As he tries to live with the weight of his past, Anthony slowly starts losing the thin line between memory and reality.

What makes this book powerful isn’t just the plot it’s the feeling it leaves behind. You don’t read it just to know what happens; you read it to understand why it happens and what it does to a person’s mind.

Arvind Rishi writes in a way that feels real and raw. The setting feels familiar the chaos, the quiet, the beauty, and the darkness that coexist in India’s everyday life. But what truly stands out is the psychological pull.

It makes you wonder
How much can a human mind carry before it breaks?
And when it does, can love, friendship, or time really fix it?

The characters, especially Anthony and his circle of friends, feel layered each of them hiding something, each trying to heal in their own way. Their conversations feel natural but carry depth; their silences speak even louder.

This isn’t just a psychological thriller it’s a story about grief, guilt, and finding meaning when everything feels meaningless. It’s about how sometimes the brightest sunshine still leaves the darkest shadows.

If you like books that blend mystery with emotion, that make you sit quietly for a minute after you finish them The Brown Sunshine deserves your time.

It doesn’t give you quick answers, but it leaves you with questions that linger softly in your mind.
so if you want to pick something thriller, suspenseful makes you sit at edge until you finish it then here you go ...

This book, "The Brown Sunshine" by Arvind Rishi is an absorbing and suspenseful psychological thriller. The story slowly takes us into a thrilling world where memory, fear and grief comes together in quite disturbing ways.

The story revolves around Anthony Biswas, a forensic pathologist who is good at his job but broken inside. He spends more time with dead as they can't hurt him the way living once did. His pain comes from a school trip to Darjeeling which changes his life forever.

Anthony and his four friends once shared a close bond. They laughed, planned their futures and supported each other. But one strange night in Darjeeling shattered everything!

Anthony woke up at the edge of a cliff with no memory of how he got there. His friend Arora was badly injured. Arora disappeared without a trace soon after. And as the years passed, Anthony remained trapped in same grief while others move on.

Throughout the story, Anthony carries guilt, fear and loneliness and keeps asking himself what happened, and why he is the only one who remembers everything. The narrative moves back and forth between Anthony's school days in Jamshedpur and his present life in Bangalore.

These transitions help us understand how deeply the past controls Anthony and this is well executed by the author with much clarity. The writing style is simple yet professional, emotional and witty.

The story also raises big questions about memory and identity. It makes us wonder what we would do if someone we loved suddenly vanished and the world acted like they never even existed.

Overall, the story is engaging, mysterious and full of quiet suspense. It has surprising twists and a powerful ending which will leave you agape.

🌞The Brown Sunshine🌞

By Author Arvind Rishi 🌻

“The Brown Sunshine” by Arvind Rishi is a gripping and thought-provoking psychological thriller that takes readers on a rollercoaster of emotions. The story revolves around Anthony Biswas, a forensic pathologist who is haunted by a traumatic accident from his past. Biswas’s character is complex and deeply flawed, making him relatable and intriguing.

Author’s writing style is engaging and descriptive, allowing readers to vividly imagine the landscapes and events of the story. The blending of the waking world with the landscapes of Biswas’s dreams adds an element of surrealism to the narrative, creating a sense of unease and mystery.

One of the most intriguing aspects of the book is the existential truth that Biswas confronts. The idea of loved ones disappearing and being forgotten by everyone except the protagonist raises questions about the nature of reality and the impact of our choices. The author explores these themes with depth and nuance, leaving readers pondering their own existence and the choices they have made.

The pacing of the story is well-executed, with suspenseful moments interspersed with moments of introspection. The mystery at the heart of the book is slowly unraveled, keeping readers hooked until the very end. The Brown Sunshine by ARVIND RISHI:
To be completely transparent with my readers, when i picked this book up, i was not sure if i would enjoy it. I picked it up because a friend of mine suggested me to but i didn't go in with much expectation. I didn't think i would be interested in reading about a forensic pathologist but i was wrong. Within a couple of chapters, i found myself reading like there's no tomorrow.
I found remorse, despair, pain, sorrow and a lot of depth in our protagonist's chatacter and i enjoyed how the story progressed. There's something exceptional about a writer who knows how to keep their readers hooked to their story, and our author has that quality.
I truly enjoyed reading The brown sunshine. It was an engaging psychological thriller with unpredictable twists and turns that kept my interest alive until the very end. The narrative was to die for! There was a gripping suspense to this book. Our protagonist is quite successful in his profession but he's troubled by his past and has rendered himself extremely alone. He refuses to get involved with people because he is still stuck in the haunting memories of his younger days. Anothony Biswas' past takes us to a Darjeeling trip with his peers many moons back which led his later self to a state of grief. His self destructive behavior takes us to a corner of our mind where we begin to question ourselves and our life choices. How successful is successful enough to be happy? This book made me think things and those thoughts are going to help me guide myself to a better tomorrow. I can not believe that a psychological thriller could change my perspective on life the way that it did. This book was meant to be a thriller but it covered a lot of important aspects of life. It spoke of dreams, realities, hardships, obstacles, the horror of oblivion and identity.
It truly was a captivating read and i would urge my follow booklovers to give this book a chance. It will blow your mind.

'Beyond the fiction of reality, there is the reality of the fiction', Zizek said. While reading Rishi's The Brown Sunshine this simple quote hovered around my mind a couple of times. Be it the characters themselves, the self-introspection, the philosophical and psychological circles or the backdrop that closely knitted the story.

"There are more things in heaven and Earth, Horatio, Than are dreamt of in your philosophy. " - The Brown Sunshine closely follows this metaphysical and metaphorical phenomena. Subtle nuances of history and modernity are skillfully attached to it, that only a nerd or a history geek can unearth. From asceticism to nihilism, from the brotherhood's timeline and formation during the crusade to modern Illuminati are placed under the thin layers of this psychological thriller. Do they have major concerns in the book or all that for symbolization and personification purposes?

Going back and forth in the timeline with parallel narration to envision the crafting of a bigger picture in the trilogy. That decodes the most popular series crafting technique of Reverse Outlining and Reverse Narrative. The Brown Sunshine has taken inspiration from multiple places be it books or real events; knowingly or unknowingly. But the reality that can be found in the protagonists' psyches and emotions; brings life to the characters.

An unreliable narrator, an unreliable storyline and an equally unique voice, bring fresh air to the literary field that is already filled with below-par creations. The concept of a Hindu mythological figure and awakening at the end, which follows a nail-biting cliffhanger harbingers a hallucinatory psychological thriller series in style. Who hallucinates the most- the protagonist or the reader? Is it just a mirage or a never-ending tunnel that invites the protagonist to its dark pit and never to leave it? Only the sequels will tell how the story unfolds! Until then, stay in the loop.

♾️ The Brown Sunshine by Arvind Rishi is a deeply haunting psychological thriller.

♾️ The cover attracts me first; it shines like a diamond, and it's attractive and deep.

♾️ Before I start with the review, let me tell you this—it's not going to be one of those gripping typical thrillers.

♾️ The book revolves around Anthony Biswas—a successful forensic pathologist who buried himself in the world of the dead to feel himself alive.

♾️ However, his work is not his rescue but a hidden spot for him to keep running away from the haunting memories of his past that are still digging at his heart and brain. Memories of the horrific Darjeeling accident happened on his school trip.

♾️ It's not just about the trip, but whatever happened on the trip keeps haunting him and his friends after all these years.

♾️ The universe forced him to find his answers, the nightmares of the unknown, something that has been bothering him since then.

♾️ Will Anthony be able to find answers?

♾️ The opening of the book was on point; as a psychological thriller, it literally dragged me into the story instantly.

♾️ What makes me love this book is the writing, how the author executes Anthony and his dilemma, and how the character was quite relatable—aren't we all like him at some point?

♾️ The grip on the suspense was phenomenal in this book, like you cannot pinpoint the twist that easily.

♾️ How this book is different from other thrillers is that it explores the more psychological part of the humans!!

♾️ According to me, it's not just carrying the suspense of whatsoever happened in the past but also how a human mind goes through those memories psychologically throughout that time.

♾️ Anthony's character was one of the most suspenseful, difficult, and complex ones I have witnessed.

♾️ Overall, this thriller is going to impactyour mind for a long time.

Successful forensic pathologist Anthony Biswas has a painful perspective on life. He throws everyone out of his life except for his memories and his bottle, not because he spends more time with the dead than the living. Recollections of a terrible incident that happened to him and his four companions in Darjeeling when they were on a school trip. Biswas stays put while they all go through various phases of grieving. He continues to circle around. As reality starts to collapse in on itself, mixing the actual world with the scenes from his nightmares. As the riddle is solved, the solutions become more terrible than the questions. This is a trip of the mind. The main character is in a profound sleep and is bound by his emotions and history. A psychological thriller that masterfully weaves together a bouquet of tropes, creating a slow-burning, forbidden romance and a narrative that lays its emphasis on past haunting, broken lives consumed by darkness, mental invalidity through an utterly intriguing male character with a brooding peculiarity.

With multiple points of views, Arvind’s narrative resonates with readers as it unfolds the poignant inward journey of Anthony Biswas, a forensic pathologist. The timeline of the novel shuttles between many characters and places…stretches from 2014 to 2022. It starts with school days at Subhash Chandra Vidyalaya, Jamshedpur. Biswas has many friends at school, and some grew closed eventually with their combined misadventures and deeds. The storyline has sweeps, but mainly alternates between more than two timelines, past and present.

Given the unstable mental state of the protagonist, he finds himself intertwined in the deeds and haunting of the past. The intersecting jinx of memories roots back to Darjeeling, they were out on class excursion. Something untoward transpired in such a dark way that some of the class students gets killed. It wasn’t easy to round off the stories. This incident serves as a focal point in the hindsight that keeps the storyline swirling psychologically.

Arvind’s ability to illustrate an external dilemma and chaotic introspection lends the story an irresistible allure. As Biswas navigates his new and old surroundings, he crosses paths with the heat of moral choices. The novel crafts narrative with heartfelt prose drawing readers into the emotional dimensions of Biswas’s recky life. Also, it offers a deep and authentic exploration of mental health, human vulnerability, and self-growth as Biswas confronts his anguish and finds solace in the unlikeliest of places.

So, I know that you all are waiting for my detailed analysis of the book as soon as I have posted the reel. I'm glad that I am posting the review within a week.
Now, spoiler of these kind of storyline I personally don't prefer as it destroy the author's effort to make it unique. However, at the core of
the storyline is the aftermath of the accident that forever linked Biswas with his four friends—Helix, Mayank, Abhimanyu, and Arora. The incident in Darjeeling during a school picnic altered the course of their lives. Each character faces their suffering in different ways, while Biswas remains stuck in a cycle of inertia. To break free, he must uncover the truth of what transpired on that fateful day.

This is a true page-turner and the author’s ability to hook me till the last page is something I have to appreciate. The language is lucid, beginners can easily pick it up.
The plot is well developed with unpredictable twists and turns. There are no loose threads as the climax gives me a completeness of the story.
Now, coming to the characters of the title, Biswas is multidimensional. With the development of the storyline, the character becomes complex however, at any point he never gives up. Rayne and Natasha have a significant role in building the storyline.

Lastly, this book is not merely a psychological fiction. It discusses many personal and real-life aspects such as delusions, dreams, grief, trauma, pain, regrets, introspection, responsibilities, etc. through the prism of the characters.
Not only the fan of this genre, but any reader can also read this story as there are many things to be learnt from this book. My appreciation to the person who has designed the cover.

The Brown Sunshine by Arvind Rishi pulled me in so quietly and so completely that I didn’t even realize when the book had wrapped its fingers around me.
From the first chapter itself, the writing has this gravitational pull. You don’t just read Anthony Biswas’s thoughts… you start sinking into them. His memories, his loneliness, the trauma he’s tried to outrun for decades — it all creeps up on you slowly, like fog rising from an old hillside, thinning and thickening exactly when the plot needs it to.
And that’s the part that impressed me most.
Books dealing with the psychological mindscape often get messy or chaotic, but Arvind Rishi writes with such clarity that even the confusion feels deliberate. You feel like you’re walking through Anthony’s mind with a flashlight, catching flickers of childhood fear, old grief, and buried truths. The transitions between past and present aren’t jarring; they feel organic, like how memories naturally barge into our thoughts without warning.
As the story unfolds — from his Darjeeling trauma to the way reality starts bending around him — everything feels connected. Every choice, every crack in his mind, every strange phenomenon circles back with purpose. And the way the mystery unravels? So satisfying. So unsettling. And still somehow gentle at the end.
Because unlike most psychological thrillers that love to leave you shattered or disturbed, this one chooses peace. It lands with a strangely calming note, like the storm finally settling after roaring through all your doubts.
I genuinely didn’t expect the ending to soothe me the way it did.
Arvind Rishi has done an incredible job of building a psychological thriller that is atmospheric, emotional, reflective, and deeply human. And if you pick it up, just know — it’s not a “read and move on” book. It’s a “read and sit with yourself for a while” book.
Highly recommended.

This is a true page-turning psychological thriller, and the border between reality and dreams here is hazy. Remorse, despair, agony, and grief are all part of the narrative, and our protagonist's character has a lot of depth. A writer who can keep their audience engrossed in their work is amazing, and the author here has done this exceptionally well.

I liked how the plot developed. My interest was maintained throughout the entire book, thanks to its captivating writing and unexpected turns. This book has a compelling sense of suspense. Despite being relatively successful in his line of work, our protagonist is haunted by his past and feels very alone. He won't interact with people since he is still haunted by the recollections of his early years. His self-destructive actions push us to a place in our minds where we start to doubt who we are and the decisions we've made in life.

The story moves along well, building to a satisfying climax that resolves the mysteries. This book is interesting to read because of the author's skill in fusing intense emotion with exhilarating suspense. Although it was written as a thriller, this novel also addressed many significant topics of life, such as identities, setbacks, the dread of oblivion, aspirations, and reality.

I would strongly recommend this book to readers who enjoy this genre because it was a genuinely interesting read. It will astound you. Readers will be left thinking about the complexities of human existence after finishing this novel, which is a dark and compelling psychological thriller. This book stands out in the genre due to its evocative location and well-developed supporting characters, which improve the overall reading experience.

The Brown Sunshine by Arvind Rishi is surely one of the nail-biting thrillers I recently read. Filled with lots of drama and a mystery to solve, Arvind weaves a tale full of suspense and love. It's an emotional journey of hope and despair, introspection and extrospection, wisdom and insanity, truth and a lie, Power and love and friendship. A story that shows us layers of life, making us see and feel the brown sunshine.

With an intriguing plot and crisp descriptive narrative, Arvind weaves a page-turner. It's the story of Anthony Biswas who is searching for answers to an incident that happened years back. In search of answers, all he faces is loss. He lost everything and everyone and still, there's a force that's holding him. Will he be able to find the answers, will he be able to accept the answers?
An incident that happened on a trip made him question. And to find the answer he was ready to risk his life. As we delve into his journey, we see the shades of learning life and how some of us are the chosen ones. Anthonym’s journey is filled with pain, loss and defeat, and the power guiding him to find the answers. With each chapter, we find the missing puzzle making the story exciting and complex at the same time.

It's a blend of mysteries with strong characters and each one of them adds twists to the story. The characters are brilliantly curated. While one could relate to Anthony’s situation and feel his pain, the curiosity of finding the answers kept me going. It’s a bit dense read with too many things happening altogether. The second half of the story is too exciting and gripping. The way the events turned out to be are surprising and definitely, the climax, giving us Bollywood vibes.
