Jet, our heroine, is failing out of college and is going back home. And now her father tells her that her mother didn't died in a chemistry accident but that she was a witch and died from working in a spell. A spell she promised to someone and that n exchange have in mortgage their house. No, do Jet believe her father? HELL NO! She thinks he is going nuts, and just for that reaction, i found the story really refreshing, aha!
But well, after some strong evidences that he is telling the true, is now up to her to try to find a way to fix the potion her mother was working with. However, she have a little problem, it seems she isn't an enchantress but a nix, meaning she have small magical abilities. Now between finding her match in a bowl , trying to escape a dark enchanter , she must found a way to discover the truth behind her mother actions and her new world.
I really liked Jet's character,i found her hilarious and just with a great personality!
Just like the visions of my future with Caleb had popped into my head without warning, I now saw a dark future without him, totally weird stuff - a menacing forest, a mob with - what? Torches? Good grief. This wasn't Beauty and the Beast. Unless Caleb was the beauty-
She finds a way to find humor in all the crazy things that keep popping out in her life!
So overall, it was fun and enjoyable read!

After failing several college classes Jet leaves school for home and finds that there is more to herself than she knew. She finds that she is a Nix, an enchantress without any powers, but surrounded by a world full of magic. Her mother's recent death has left not only a hole in her life, but a job unfinished. To save her family home Jet must finish the potion her mother had been commissioned to create before time runs out.
I really enjoyed the ideas in this story and what the world that Daniels created could have been. It was a fast paced, interesting world, but the writing failed to convey to me anything more than surface level details. It felt as if the ideas weren't as fleshed out as they could have been. The characters felt pretty one dimensional at times as well. Their motives for doing anything, other than magically induced actions, seemed hazy and unclear. I kept wanting and hoping for more details because Daniels drew me into the story and Jet's world.
The idea of finding your Match and creating a marriage was an intriguing idea, but fell flat. The whole magical world was never truly explained with anything more than a vague reference. Sure, I've read enough fantasy novels to fill in the blanks for myself, but I kept wanting her to explain why this world was different and what laws and properties governed the use of magic.
The afterward mentioned forthcoming stories and I look forward to reading them. Hopefully there will be more detail and world building to polish these great ideas.
Jet’s life isn’t working out as she’d hoped it would. She’s unlucky in love, her mother passed away just a few months ago, and now she’s going to have to drop out of college. Just when she thinks she’s going to be stuck living at home with no future in sight she gets a little piece of shocking news: her mother was an enchantress who died trying to make a powerful love spell known as a “passion potion.” Now, Jet has to make the potion her mother was working on when she died, or risk the wrath of the mysterious client who commissioned the spell. One little problem: Jet’s a Nix, and Nixes can’t perform magic.
If you like a spunky heroine with a strong voice, you’re going to like Jet. From the first page of the book, her character shines through and draws you in. By the time you’ve reached the end of chapter one, you’re going to know what you think of her. If you’ve ever read anything by the marvelous Meg Cabot, you’ll have a pretty good idea of the type of writing style Daniels employs in this novel. It’s all in the first person with Jet’s inner thoughts providing the reader with a clear view of the world as she sees it and her thought process as she goes through the wild ride that is the plot of “Passion Potion.”
One of my favorite bits about this book is that Daniels actually employs some real knowledge of chemistry when it comes to talking about brewing potions. She does it in a way that readers with some in-depth knowledge of the subject won’t feel like Daniels is making everything up, but readers without a working knowledge of chemical reactions will still be able to follow along without getting lost.
Now we have to get to the reasons why I’m giving this book a 3/5: the romance, the pacing, and the conflict resolution. I obviously can’t talk about the latter in much detail, as that would be a great disservice to the author and would impede a reader’s enjoyment of the novel. Suffice it to say, it comes a bit out of nowhere and didn’t feel like a good resolution to me as a reader. It made Jet seem a bit self-centered and was, in many ways, cruel to some of the cast members. If you want to know more, you’ll just have to read the novel for yourself.
On to one of the issues I can talk about: the romance. While Jet is given a strong voice and the reader really does get to know her quite well, the same cannot be said for her romantic counterpart, Caleb. He’s barely in the book at all and, when he does show up, he’s so busy snogging Jet that we don’t get to know much about him as a character. I honestly didn’t care what happened to him or their romance. Speaking of snogging, there’s another issue I had with the romance: the sex. Yes, there are several mature scenes in this book and none of them felt right. This is the story of Jet, not Jet and Caleb. Caleb doesn’t even go along with Jet on her adventure; he just waits for her at home and is the prize she gets at the end. As such, the sex scenes felt like I was reading about a one-night stand type of hookup between two horny teenagers instead of an intimate encounter between two members of well-developed couple that were actually in love.
Enough about the romance; let’s talk about pacing. For those of you who don’t know literary lingo, pacing refers to the speed at which events are presented to the reader. The events of Passion Potion occurred at a very fast pace and, at times, it was simply too fast. I barely had time to digest one major plot event before the next one was taking place and, while this is fine for a more action-driven book where only the protagonist matters to the reader, Passion Potion is a character-driven novel with a wide range of cast members. I wanted time to get to know those characters and develop opinions about them, but Jet was far too busy traveling through portals and discovering well-kept secrets to give the reader time to get to know anyone but her. I didn’t even feel any animosity towards the bad guy; he’s in only three scenes and is rarely talked about outside of that. I wish Ms. Daniels had simply slowed down the plot and added more scenes where Jet was interacting with other characters. With her captivating writing style I would have loved to read another fifty pages worth of novel, and I think the book would have profited form it.
To wrap things up, I give Passion Potion a final rating of 3/5, and recommend it to anyone who likes an action-packed story with a strong heroine and lots of magic. Skip it if you’re looking for a good romance story.
Captivating, intense, funny, sexy, heart warming, surprising, action-packed, unique....I could literally go on for pages with all the words I would use to describe this book!
In Passion Potion, we meet Jet, a flunking Chem major who recently lost her mom (I know, that is nothing like I just described in all those words, just give me a minute!). Whilst driving home with her dad for a permanent Christmas break, she finds out that not only is her mother a witch, but she died trying to make a potion for a man with a very high price tag....and he is coming to collect. After excepting what her mom was, she is determined to get her father out of this. During her adventure she finds out nothing is what it appears to be, including herself. Accompanied by a wise-cracking ferret named Hallow, and a gorgeous man named Caleb, who she feels a remarkable pull towards unlike anything she has ever felt, Jet will kick-ass, take names and defy every notion that she is incapable of succeeding.
For me, Jet was an amazing character to read about. She was someone I could relate to for struggling sometimes but not completely giving up. She works hard and seems to try to do the right thing at last most of the time (who didn't blow off studying for a test once in a while to go drink in college? Come on!). Plus, she is fun! She's not some wicked serious character, hell bent on revenge and ONLY revenge. She has got a hell of a wit to her and even though she is going through some rough stuff, she takes the the potion and her mother's death very seriously, she still maintains a young person's personality, which I thought really made this book shine.
The other part of this story that really made me happy was the world. It's not your average witch story line. In fact there isn't much that is just left up to standard lore. They aren't just "witches", there are levels and bloodlines and types. It's not just "love stories", they have matches and destinies tied to one another. Spells and potions are a whole new term in this book, from physical items and recipes to what they do and how you do them. The world, to me, was complete. Nothing was left for you to assume one thing or another, and each was unique. Including the incantations and spells into the book was interesting too because you could see words and meanings not just reading they X, Y or Z. New twists on old subjects are always fun to read, especially when done as well as Passion Potion.
I hate to interrupt my gloating about this book, but there were also a couple of things I had a problem with. One is kind of my general complaint of, "how do you love someone you know nothing about?" I like Caleb, he sounds gorgeous and proves he is more than just looks by being there for Jet even if it meant exile for him, and he did come to her rescue a few times. However, she still knew very little about him before she jumped right off the match deep end. Again, liked him.....think they will make a great couple, but can I get a little win-and-dine before we start throwing love around?
My other issue has a similar theme as the first but it has more to do with Jet's character than love. When she wiped her memory of all the boys she has been with, I was rather disappointed with her. I felt like it was kind of weak to use magic to pretend like something didn't happen, when it did. I had more faith in Jet than that, and I think she proved through the whole story she was strong willed AND learned from her mistakes. I felt she took the easy way out of something after just going through hell and back to get where she was at that point in the story. It didn't diminish my love for Jet, it just left me with a sour taste during that scene.
I don't want you to think that either of these MINOR complaints made the story any less interesting and entertaining. I had this book half way done within an hour of receiving it because it was that awesome! The world, the characters and the humor pulled me in straight away. I'd also like to mention the pop culture references really made me chuckle throughout the book and made it even more enjoyable. I really hope the author keeps writing about Jet because I cannot wait to hear more from this world!

We get maybe one chapter of calmness, where we sorta get to know the main gal Jet before we are shoved face first into the action. I maybe may have enjoyed more of the fast pace this book is written in if I knew more about the character and her life, if I had more of a connection to her. But sadly we aren't granted that connection so for me throughout this book it all just felt off.
In the second chapter, Jets father tells her her mother was a witch, an enchanter. An enchanter that was working on a very expensive potion that was being made for a very bad dude. Now her father is going to be in debt soon if this potion doesn't get made for that guy because her mother is no longer with them, so he hopes his daughter will be able to create the potion her mother wasn't able to finish. The reason why Jets mother couldn't finish it because something went wrong and her attempt at the potion had killed her. So there is that mystery Jet will have to figure out. She'll also have to figure if it was by accident or someone killed her intentionally.....dun, dun, dun!
The mystery part of the story was an interesting ride but one that came into pieces nicely, too nicely to the part where it kinda just doesn't feel right to me. I don't really know how to explain it. Maybe it just feels wrapped up nicely cause this storyline was very quick and fast paced. There was never a dull moment in this book and that's always good, right?
Another part of this book was her finding her match as they call them in their world, it's a soul mate in ours. She found hers in a matter of chapters too. Like third or fourth, I can't remember when or which but I know it happened just as quickly as the rest of the story. Yes, they were hot and steamy and who doesn't like to read those scenes once in a while but they truly weren't able to develop a true connection. The only great connection I saw was their lips on top of the others. But as a reader I wasn't able to feel that real connection. I felt a fake one and it felt like the only reason why they were so hot and heavy was because of magic. Because their eyes were the perfect match for each other (you'll understand the eyes part when you pick up this book haha).
Overall I did enjoy it. It was a fun, light, fast, easy read and ever chapter I said would be my last was truly never my last so this book does hook you in and stays with you after you’ve finished weeks ago. There were some great twist and turns. I did love that Mary incorporated part of Alice in Wonderland in this book but that only comes forth when Jet gets sent to this certain dimension. I also do like how much her father is actually in this book and helping her out in this new world she's now in. You don't see a lot of parents in the character’s lives so that was a nice change to read. All I gotta say is there sure is a lot of passion in this book haha.
A Magical Book! (Note: Another free book I had found. At the time I had not really read any kind of paranormal romance books. I considered this a fantasy since I just hadn't been able to wrap my mind around different genres back then such as paranormal, dystopian, etc. Also if I were to grade this one today I would probably only give it 3.5 stars. Not that it's a bad book but my tastes and expectations have grown since then and this one just doesn't equal five stars to me anymore. Like I said before, I refuse to go back and change any ratings because it's not fair to the authors or myself. I love to see the enthusiasm I had for certain books back that I read a while back. Still, this was a fun book that I have no problem recommending to anyone. So here's another old review....by me!)
I found this book from visiting my favorite authors Facebook page and I'm so very glad for the recommendation. Jet is a Nix, a person who is born from Enchanter parents but doesn't have any magic, they can see magic but can't use it and nobody in the Enchanter (Witching) community is allowed to associate with Nix's. Her mother was a legendary chemist (a lot of Enchanters take chemistry for brewing their potions and stuff) but Jet has just failed school. Her grades have gone down since the death of her mom in a horrible accident, plus she just can't stay away from the cute guys. So on the way home to go back and live with her dad who's surprisingly not upset he drops a big bomb on her and tells her that her mom was an enchanter and was working on a powerful potion that's never been invented before: a love potion for a man named Dei Lucrii who turns out to be a Dark Enchanter and may be responsible for her moms death. Jet's mom had to remortgage the house to pay for all of the expensive components for the house and unless they can complete the dangerous potion they stand to lose everything. But how can a Nix without any powers possibly create a potion that killed one of the greatest Enchanters out there? You'll have to read to find out.I normally don't read romance, I'm a guy but lately I've been pretty much reading anything as long as it has a good story and although Romance isn't my main love: I prefer anything with the supernatural but after reading this and a few other books they read just like the books I enjoy. There may be some romantic sex here and there but it's not overdone and in Passion Potion's case it just enhances the story. I really enjoyed the unique take on magic and hade a great time with Jet learning about her past and heritage. I can't recommend this book enough. Don't let the few ratings scare you off. I've read books with over 100 reviews that weren't half this good. Take a chance, it's only .99 and I would have gladly payed 5-7 dollars for it. I hope to read more adventures of Jet's someday and absolutely loved the world. Give it a try, get the sample, do anything, just read this book. You'll thank me for it later.
I received Passion Potion in return for an honest review from the publisher via netgalley. Jet’s been struggling to pass her classes at the semester ends she’s told she could defer and start the following semester. When she calls her father to tell him the news he’s thrilled that she’s coming home, but she sense something is up because he takes her failing well. It’s on the drive home from school that her father reveals what’s really going on, that her mother was a enchantress who died from a spell going wrong.
Jet’s father tells her that her mom took out multiple mortgages, to create this passion potion, and now they are going to lose the house unless she can create it. The only problem is Jet isn't an enchantress she’s a nix with limited magical abilities. While sitting in her mom’s workshop coming to grips with everything she’s learned plus her mom’s talking ferret she meets a stranger through a portal. Jet sets out to meet her mother’s friends hoping to find the stranger and help with the potion but are instantly denied help because it’s against the law to help a nix. Jet does find the stranger his name is Caleb and they both are drawn to each other because they are a match.
As time is running out Jet finds herself in the sights of a dark enchanter who could be responsible for killing her mother. Risking everything to save her family she learns secrets that will change everything? Will Jet be able to overcome being a nix and save her house as well as get rid of the Dark Enchanter?
I really think Jet’s a great character she has a great personality, she’s clever and just rolls with all the craziness in stride. With Jet’s character she grows though the story from knowing nothing about magic to holding her own. I like the connection between Jet and Caleb how he was willing to give it all up going against everything he’s been raised to accept for her. I think the supporting characters are fun, like the free spirit ferret that enhances the story. Plus what’s not to love about a bad guy who you just love to hate Dei Lucrii.
Passion Potion is a fast paced paranormal romance that draws the reader right into the craziness right from the start keeping you entertaining until the very end. I finished it in one evening it’s a quick read that I wasn't able to put down. I love the concept of the Enchanters as well as Nix’s I thought the author created a unique concept that was refreshing compared to other magic stories. I love the writing it’s a smooth story flowing along mixing mystery, romance and humor to create a captivating adventure. Passion Potion is a New Adult book because it does touch on a few adult situations however I think mature teens will enjoy the story. A perfect lazy afternoon book because you can finish in one sitting and it ends that if there isn't a sequel it’s not a issues however I would love to see more from Jet with her next adventure.
*I received a copy from the author in exchange for an honest review*
Passion Potion is very fast paced and doesn't allow any BS. It's written very straight to the point, mostly dialogue and action, without too much description. This all gives it a very Young Adult kind of feeling, except there are some sexy scenes which are not so suited for the younger audience. But I liked this combination; the passion from new adult without the angst and the action from young adult without the chemistry being too platonic.
So when the story starts you pretty much get thrown in and you better start swimming if you don't want to drown. Jet just discovers she's a witch, kind of. She's a Nix, which means she's half enchantress, half human and this somehow makes her dangerous to other enchanters. Apparently she has to make this potion, which her mom failed at, to save her dad and her home.
Considering Jet's got about a week time to do this, she will need some help. The only problem, no one is willing to help her. Her dad knows nothing, her mom's talking ferret refuses to help and if anybody else wants to help they can't or they may lose their magic. So she's pretty much stuck on her own, trying to figure things out.
Except maybe there might be one person who will risk helping her. Among her mom's stuff is a pewter bowl in which Jet can sometimes sees a very handsome guy, named Caleb. Now Jet and Caleb are connected and the attraction between them causes some major sparks, literally. Caleb can't fight how he feels about Jet and tries to help her in any way he can.
Still not everything is as clear as it seems; making the potion, give it to the seller and everything is okay. Yeah, not that simple. Jet has to make a Passion Potion, which is forbidden because they are not allowed to interfere with love. Since Jet knows nothing about the enchanter world, she still has so much to learn and unfortunately for her there isn't the time. So she's entitled to a couple of hysterical moments, but overall she's keeping it strong.
Her lack of knowledge does keep getting her into trouble while she's trying to make that potion. Now people are after her, she may or may not have found her future husband, finding out she's a Nix is only the beginning as more and more secrets get revealed. All in all she has become a magnet for trouble.
Passion Potion was a very fast paced and fun read. Sarcastic comments are flying all around, we've got magic, romance, action, a heroine who is kind of fearless, conspiracy theories...what more could you want!
In the first few pages of Passion Potion we meet Jet who has just flunked out of college, has a hilarious inner monologue that could rival most comedians, and just overall seems like the girl you would want to hang out with and talk about life. Upon failing out of college Jet as her father arrive to take her home and on the trip he tells her that not only was her mother a witch, but she also promised some random guy a spell, she mortgaged the house to the brim to fuel her research for the spell, and that chemistry accident she died in? Yeah, no. It was an explosion that occurred while her mother was working on the spell. And does Jet believe her father and immediately agree to everything he says? Hell no, and for that I applaud her! However, after much internal debate and reflection on events in her childhood such as the fact that she never saw her mother clean or bake and yet their house would make Martha Stewart proud, she decided that maybe her dad isn’t as nuts as she thought. Oh, and the fact that her mother’s pet ferret starts talking to her doesn’t hurt her believing him (not going to life, the ferret is the best character in the book). So this story sounds pretty interesting, right? I thought it had some serious promise…and then I kept reading.

“Sometimes we have to make the best of what life brings us.” -Jet’s Dad
Funny, enjoyable and unique. Passion Potion is a light read but not boring, with the right amount of paranormal, fantasy and romance mixed together. Definitely one of its kind.
I practically devoured this book. Its colorful characters, interesting plot and quirky dialogue immediately hooked me in. The pace of the story and the flow of words are smooth and easy. There are no dull moments. Everything is cleverly written.
It wasn’t hard to like the main character, Jet. She’s honest, fierce, snarky, funny, smart and kind. She was a little lost when the truth about her and her family’s identity was revealed but she handled it well. Jet had no idea what to do but she used her resourcefulness to seek help. And she found help. She refused to accept defeat but fought for what is good and just. But she was also willing to sacrifice herself if it comes down to it.
I also loved Caleb. His complicated relationship with Jet was cute and frustrating at first. I liked that even though he was taking a huge risk, he still helped Jet in the ways that he can. Hallow the ferret was funny. Everytime Jet talks to him, it was like she was talking to herself. I laughed out loud at his sarcastic comments and witty remarks that I even think the reason why they’re not going well with each other is that they have the same personality, Jet and Hallow. Likes repel, right?
I liked the twists and revelations of the story. I honestly did not see the main twist coming and it was both a relief and a surprise. It’s like it made everything right and secured a happy ending. But the surprise did not end there. It was brilliant what Jet did with the potion and Rah and Dei Lucrii. Her solution made me a bit uncomfortable and worried but love still proved to be a stronger magic. In the end, Jet had found her true place.
I am sincerely hoping for more of Jet and Caleb’s story. I can’t get enough of this wonderful world of potions and enchanters. Seriously, this is a must-read if you’re looking for a light and enjoyable book anytime. Superb!
(And hey, there’s a good deal of kissing and making out and MORE towards the end so there’s your additional reasons to go ahead and read this book NOW! *wink*)
Jet flunks out of college and goes home to her dad. Her mother has recently died doing an experiment and now Jet finds out she was actually an Enchantress and died making a potion for a dark Enchanter. Now Jet must find a way to finish that potion or they will lose everything. Problem is Jet is a Nix and no one with any powers will help her it is forbidden. She must work this out on her own and unravel secrets kept from her. She is distracted by a boy who keeps popping up and says she is his match even though he doesn't want her to be.
Jet thinks she is a loser and has let her family down. She doesn't believe at first her family is anything but normal and that her dad has lost his mind. She takes some convincing that she really is a Nix and she needs to finish this potion. She doesn't give up even when no one will help her or tell her anything. She has to work things out on her own. She is very smart and keeps digging till she gets the truth of things. Caleb at times to me was a little flaky. He wanted a match but din't want Jet as she is forbidden. He is afraid to stand up to his mother at times. However he does step up and realizes he should do the right thing.
I had trouble at first getting into this book, but once I did it took right off for me. I love the story line and after the characters stopped getting on my nerves I liked them. I think it is a way of showing you they are still young and make mistakes. There is a lot of secrets in this book that you slowly unveil. There is an element of danger as the dark enchanter is after Jet and so is everyone else it seems as she shouldn't be working magic and she keeps trying to. She really stands alone most of the time and really grows up. I liked the ending and how a few of them should be eating their words about a Nix.
First of all, it was different. The voice was unique, the tone was out of the ordinary. It really doesn't fit with anything else I've read. The best I can place it is sort of like the earliest books in the Vampire Diaries, where it didn't take itself to seriously, it was told very straightforward and the story really depended on the characters to carry it. There is very little description, but the details that are added are of the world building and parameter building variety, rather than telling you the curtains are blue and the kitchen is painted green. In other words, every word matters.
The pacing is great, the characters were likeable, and the plot made sense. It is set up to have sequel appeal, but it doesn't end on an irritating cliffhanger, which I really appreciated. At times it was downright funny. Even though some of the plot points sound darker ( dead mom, some guy trying to harm the main character ) it never felt dark. It was so lighthearted, I found myself laughing several times ( but not in that annoying yeah right kind of way. )
Yes, it was cutesy. Yes, it was insta- love. Yes it was YA mixed with a bit of sexy NA adult mixed with fantasy. And yes it was highly entertaining.
I enjoyed this plot because it involved a girl, that everybody dismisses because she isn’t “special” enough, who comes into her own and ends up defeating her demons and wowing everyone who doubted her. The book was a really unique idea that was brought together in an amazing composition. The book flowed good and the characters were great. The only problem was that sometimes the emotions felt fake and forced and some parts were almost childish. Otherwise the book was a fun read.
Jet was a girl who didn’t let anyone tell her who she is and what she was restricted to. She was determined to complete her task and didn’t lose hope when people continuously told her she wasn’t enough. I enjoyed the book from her perspective but sometimes felt that the book switched to third person and the emotions weren’t well presented.
I liked how many of the other characters involved in the book interacted with Jet and how their opinions affected her opinion of herself and others. I enjoyed the budding romance that was involved in this book and felt that it added a flair to the story.
Overall the story was pretty cute. I will be looking for other books by this author and publisher when I get the chance.
I received an ARC of this eBook in exchange for an honest review.
This book was such a fun, quick read that I was sad to see it end! At one point I saw that I was at 75% already and forced myself to slow down so that I wouldn’t have to end the book so soon.
Jet is a likable screw-up that manages to go through some big changes in this first book (of hopefully many!). The book is filled with witty dialogue and snappy witches that had me flipping pages as fast as my kindle would let me. I’m a sucker for a paranormal romance and this book didn’t disappoint. Caleb is a great love interest, although I wish we saw more of him. Their “match” was way too quick for me – I wanted more development there – but otherwise, it had a great balance of young love and adult action.
Overall, I liked where the book left us – wanting more! The short “bad guy” storyline appears resolved, we get some action (in all senses of the word), and I’m eager to see Jet develop as a witch. All of Jet’s little bunch of misfits really endeared themselves to me along the way, so I’d love to hear where they end up, too!
Passion Potion is a paranormal new adult romance. WOW ! What a great new world that Mary Beth created! It is full of Enchantress, and Dark Enchanters; a magical world of Light and Dark. The book is full of adventure, mishaps and light hearted comedy. The is also a very sweet romance to go along with the action and adventure.
This book was a great mix of intrigue and a feel good romance. I love how the author took you along for the crazy ride that Jet's life has become. It was fun to watch her handle all the craziness with spunk, humor, and love. Her and her father's continued confusion and dismay throughout the book was heartwarming!
I like how she never really gave up and was always looking for a solution to every thing that was thrown at her. It was a good first book to a new series and I cannot wait for the next book to continue with Jet's adventure and mishaps!
This was a fun, quick read and I am truly looking forward to the next book in the series. I love Ms. Daniels’ humor. Passion Potion was a new look at an old idea. Every girl wants to find out that she is actually a witch or a fairy or… we all want to have a secret magic. Nix is every girl, with the faults and history a girl of the modern age would have, and she finds out she has BIG magic! I’m looking forward to seeing how she learns to manage this magic in book 2. In this book, she is chasing the answer to the riddle her mother died trying to solve. She’s also trying to quickly learn all she can about who and what she is and falling head-over-heels with Caleb.
I so enjoyed the humor and reality of this book that I couldn’t wait. I went to Amazon.com and picked up the other book available from Ms. Daniels. Expect that review within a day or two!
Editing errors: very minimal. This editor is doing it right!
I received this copy in exchange for an honest review.
Hmm… I enjoyed this story and the background information you receive as you read further into it. The relationships and interactions between the characters was rather entertaining and I really liked the whole “match” thing. If I’m being honest, I mean I like Caleb and Jet as a ”match” or maybe just the reaction they have when they meet their perfect “match”.
The world building was very fantasy-esque with portals in bowls and fairies, edible mushrooms and talking animals but I enjoyed it.
This is the first New Adult book I’ve read that was also of a different genre, in this’ case Paranormal/Fantasy. As a lover of both, I had to read this to see what it was like and I did enjoy it. Some of it seemed a little slow and other bits a little rushed but overall it was a good enjoyable read.
I rather enjoyed this book. It was fresh, inventive and didn't take itself too seriously. Other than a few vague references to some steamy stuff (and one actually blazing-hot scene)the rest of this novel felt light and YA-ish.
I was hooked into the mystery and magic fairly quickly. The ferret was a trip and I loved his "character" instantly. For the most part, overall characterization was well done. The players in this novel did have their moments though... Dad was okay with his daughter doing something extremely dangerous, Jet was a little too flippant about the bad men chasing her, and the resolution was a little too convenient and easily committed.
Overall though, I enjoyed this book and the world of magic that the author built. I'll read more of her work for sure.
For starters, I'm not the normal target audience for this kind of book. I picked it up out of curiosity and found it an enjoyable read. Jet is a great character. She's a Nix, the offspring of an enchanter that marries outside her bloodline. Nixes have no magic to speak of, and are generally shunned by the enchanter world. When Jet's mother is killed in a freak explosion while mixing an illegal potion, it's up to Jet to find a way to finish the job before the Dark Enchanter that commissioned the potion comes calling for it. How will Jet, a college chemistry dropout, ever finish the task in time to save her father and herself? That's the journey Mary Beth Daniels takes us on, and it's a great ride to a thrilling conclusion.
Passion Potion is a very quick read at a mere 200 pages (okay, so that’s quick for me, but results may vary). Jet is a Nix, which is kind of a powerless version of an enchanter who everyone looks down upon and refuses to help. I imagine it’s because only a Nix can give birth to a Dark Enchanter. Her mom died in a chemistry accident that turned out to be a potion gone wrong and now Jet has been asked to create the potion instead.
Passion Potion is like Bewitched meets Alice in Wonderland. I loved the way this book started out NA paranormal, but the author lost me in the portal jump into the spirit world. Then it started to become a bad knock off of Alice in Wonderland with the magic mushroom and “eat me”. I think I would have liked the book if that whole scenario was not written into it.
This book is a wonderful read .A fast paced, full of action ,adventure and romance there's never a dull moment in this book .The characters both good and evil were very well written and I felt liked I was there I love a book I can fall into.I highly recommend this book.
I really enjoyed reading this, such an easy read. Quickly get used to the characters and storyline. I loved every page. Looking forward to the next book in the series.
