3 stars & 3/10 hearts. This was my first Mainstream Christian Fiction Romantic Suspense, and one of the first Amish books I’ve ever read as well. I frankly wasn’t expected to love it, and at first it bore out my belief… but then!!!

This story begins when a man runs into an Amish school and murders his partner in front of the children. He is seeking diamonds, which the partner handed over to Sarah, who apparently was bringing a snack to the schoolhouse… perhaps to her husband, Peter, who for some reason is there. It’s not really explained. Peter is killed at once, and Sarah herself is shot, waking up in the hospital with amnesia.

Frankly, the writing style isn’t my type, but it made for a quick, easy read. I just don’t tend to like modern writing styles. *coughs* The characters were interesting though. Sarah, a former English girl who was placed in the Amish community, was a tomboy who married her best friend because it was expected of her. She is now his widow and pregnant with his child, but has no recollection of who he is. I appreciated her struggle in finding herself and her place in the Amish world. Her guilt and uncertainty was well done. Samuel’s past and the way it controls him was well done. He wasn’t as fleshed out as Sarah, but he wasn’t too shallow. Rebecca & Jacob were nice strict but loving parent figures, and I liked Benjamin’s arc.

The plot was my favourite part. The suspense was well done, keeping me on my toes without frightening me, and still showing me what a terrible person the villain was. I really appreciated how the thread of “which world do I belong to?” was so deeply woven. The romance was kind of cheesy, and I was irritated by how hard Samuel found it to keep his thoughts off Sarah and focussed on his job, and how both of them just “fell in love and couldn’t help it”, kissed, and wanted to be together even while they knew they couldn't be. On the other hand, I liked that they fell for each others’ characters, not looks, and that they both were willing to draw apart and let God work to bring them together.

The theme of “are you seeking vengeance, or letting God take care of it?”, of forgiveness (of self and others), and of violence vs. justice were well done. I was super intrigued how Burke was going to put together a happy ending in spite of the “Samuel is an English cop and Sarah is an Amish woman.” No spoilers, but the ending is FANTASTIC. I might have cried, and I definitely squealed happily, and I totally love it. That ending is worth some 4 stars alone. It’s perfect and realistic all at once!

Overall, although I wasn’t a exactly a fan of the romance, I enjoyed the suspense and storyline a lot and look forwards to more of these books!

Content: barely-detailed kissing, touching, + desire & barely-detailed violence.

A Favourite Quote: “But try not to worry. I will not let anything happen to you while you are in my care.”
“I am not in your care, Samuel. I am in God’s hands.”

Hidden in Plain View is my first story written by Diane Burke. I was drawn into this story from the first few pages. The author has created strong likeable characters to tell this story thru. The storyline never gets full which will keep the reader turning pages. The suspense that builds throughout the story gets very intense.

Sarah Lapp can't remember who she is or how she was raised after being shot multiple times at the Amish school. Her husband was killed in this shooting and she can't remember him as well. Sarah is placed under protective custody of undercover cop Samuel King. As he continues to keep her safe she finds she has growing feelings for him. Knowing there can never be a future for the two of them causes Sarah to go into deep depression. As the story plays out and the plot thickens the amazing conclusion will leave you in tears but cheering.

I was not given a complimentary copy of this book to read and review. I was not approached to post a favorable response. I have rated this story with five stars for meeting my expectations of a wonderful story that I can highly recommend to others. I look forward to more stories by this author.

Congratulations to Diane Burke for writing such an amazing story filled with loss, live, forgiveness, and a surprising conclusion for her readers enjoyment.

I liked the concept of the former Amish police detective Samuel returning to an Amish community to protect the amnesiac Sarah. I also appreciated that we got some glimpses into the criminal's mind. That said, given how dangerous he was portrayed as being, I felt like his capture at the end was too easy. It felt a bit anti-climactic. In addition, the emotions Sam went through came and went too quickly.

Sarah Lapp had been born outside of the Amish community. At 8 yrs old she came to live with her grandmother after her parents death. A few years later she was taken in by the Lapp family. She grew up and married their son, Peter. Sarah sometimes wondered what true love felt like but realized she was lucky to have married her best friend. They had no children. Sarah had suffered two miscarriages.
She headed over to the schoolhouse with a basket of apples and cheese to give to Peter and the children. She wondered where the children were. The school yard was quiet. She was surprised when she was grabbed as she opened the door. A cousin, John Zook, who had recently returned home had a gun and was holding the children, Peter and their teacher as hostages. He gave Sarah a bag of what she thought was marbles and told to hold it. She pinned it inside her skirt. John was frightened and told them that someone was on his way to get her. Peter talked him into letting the teacher and children leave. An art and jewel thief soon arrived and shot John. He made a grab for Sarah and Peter tried to stop him and he was shot too. The next person shot was Sarah.
Sarah woke up in the hospital with a broken arm and no memory. Detective Samuel King was assigned to protect her. He was told that Sarah was 16 weeks pregnant.
Samuel King was born and raised in an Amish community. When he was 17, he didn't come home home by curfew and his parents drove their buggy to town to try and find him. Some of the guys he was with were drunk and decided to scare his parents. They got in their car and lost control of it. They ended up crashing into the buggy and killing both his parents. It was the Amish custom to forgive and forget but Sam couldn't do that so he left the community and became a cop. He wanted to provide protection for the Amish so he convince the elders to let him move into the Lapp's home with Sarah for security. They didn't want to let him but when he told them that nothing would stop the guy after Sarah and he would hurt them or their children they decided that maybe it was God's will that he stay with them.
Sarah had no memory of her husband and found herself attracted to Sam. Sam thought that Sarah's smile lit up the room.
While Sarah was still in the hospital, they found out that another person involved in the diamond theft was murdered while under guard at a hospital in NY. This prompted Sam's boss to move Sarah out of her room. She was in pediatrics and Sam came by to check on her while she was sleeping. He was tired and went into the bathroom to put cold water on his face. He heard something and came out to find someone injecting something in Sarah's IV. He fought with the guy and gave the needle to the nurses. They treated her while Sam was searching the hospital for the burglar. The guy hid out in the hospital and Sam's partner found him. He had a knife and ended up slitting Sam's partner's throat and escaping from the hospital in his police uniform.
Sarah was taken home, leaving the hospital through the morgue. Sam wanted to something to do that was helpful while guarding Sarah so he finished some carpentry work Peter had begun, specifically a table that was ordered for a couple that was to be married soon.
A few days passed and one evening 5 different farms had their barns set on fire. Sam stayed with Sarah to guard her because he knew the fires were set by the thief they were looking for. One evening Sarah went to the barn to get some jars of vegetables and she heard someone. She ran and tripped. The person raised something and Sarah thought she was dead. Sam knocked the guy over and they found out it was a reporter with a camera. He wanted pictures of Sarah. Sam chased him off and told him not to come back. Sarah was surprised when Sam pulled a gun on the reporter. Sam was worried that he had frightened Sarah off.
Sarah wanted to make a dessert one day and asked Sam to take her into town to get the ingredients she needed. A car passed them and turned around and drove into them at a high rate of speed. He saw it coming and Sarah jumped off the buggy. They survived the crash and the police captain sent some more guards to their home. The Amish weren't happy but were tolerating it well.
The wedding day arrived and Sam surprised the couple with the handmade table that he finished. He didn't realize that the party was being watched. Sarah's mother-in-law, Rebecca, had a talk with Sam and told him to be careful. His feelings toward Sarah were becoming obvious. Rebecca was worried that Sarah felt the same way toward him and they didn't want to lose Sarah or their grandchild. It was the Amish way to shun people who left the Amish community. Sam decided to take a walk and went into the loft of the barn to think.
The thief came into the barn, unaware that Sam was there. He held Mary, one of the children and knife point and told her brother to go get Sarah out of the house and tell her to come to the barn alone. Mark went to Sarah and relayed the message. She told Mark to count to then and then go get help. Mark went and got his slingshot. He came into the barn and used the slingshot to hit the thief in the forehead. He dropped the knife and Sam jumped onto him from the loft. Sam got him into handcuffs. The ordeal was over.
Sam left the Amish community while missing Sarah. Sarah was afraid that she would never see him again. Sarah had hoped that her memory would return when she had arrived at home but that didn't happen. Sam was gone and her memory still hadn't returned.
She was surprised to see Sam when she went into town months later. Sam told her that he had transferred to a precinct their area so that he could continue to protect her Amish community. Sarah was still missing Sam. She went into labor not too much later.
One of the Amish leaders, Benjamin, went into town to get Sam and tell him. Benjamin and Sam talked about Sarah. He told Sam that it had become obvious that Sarah was missing Sam. Her memory had never returned and it didn't appear that it would. Sarah had lost her knowledge of the Amish language and no longer understood the readings at their religious services. The Sarah they knew and loved was gone. She had come back as English. Benjamin approached Sam with the idea that if an Amish person left the community, they were shunned. The English were welcomed and were given compassion. Benjamin and Sam went to talk to Rebecca and her husband. They entered the barn where Rebecca and her husband were overheard discussing Sarah. Rebecca was trying to talk Jacob into letting Sarah leave and go to Sam. Jacob didn't want to lose both Sarah and especially their granddaughter. Benjamin and Sam interrupted their conversation to give them Benjamin's idea of allowing Sarah to be accepted as English therefore she wouldn't be shunned and they could still see their granddaughter. Rebecca and Jacob were thrilled with this suggestion.
Sam then went to talk to Sarah and asked her to marry him. Sarah quickly agreed to marry Sam.
A year later, they were back at Rebecca and Jacob's home when Sarah announced that Faith would soon have a brother or sister.

This book tells the story of Sarah came under Samuel’s protection when she was shot and her husband’s was killed. The police is convinced that the killer will come after her as he thought she have the diamonds that belong to him again and wanted to put her under a protection program. They sent Samuel to be the undercover to protect Sarah as he was born and raised as an Amish. It is easier for him to blend into the community as he already knows the rules and beliefs of the community. Due to the injury she suffered in the hand of the killer, she lost her memory and to make matter worse, she is pregnant. Samuel vowed to take care and to protect her. But her vulnerability seems to capture his attention and his heart. But being back to the Amish community triggered some unwanted memories that he have long since forgotten, at least he tried too.

The story plot is rather different from the normal romance story and as i read thru the story, it makes me wonder whether wills their love for each other will prevail over the belief that they have been upholding since young and Samuel’s resistance of it? It is rather clear that the love between the main characters is a forbidden love (if i am allow to say that ;) ) and i really felt for Samuel when he said goodbye to her towards the end of the story. But as is all the other romance books, its always end with a happy note. ;)

This book had me hooked from the first page. I felt sorry for Sarah having no memory of her life. How scary. I liked when Samuel told her that it didn’t matter who she was before, she could be whoever she wanted from this point on. I also liked the bravery of little William towards the end. I would recommend this book.

Good suspense. Sara Lapp doesn't remember what happen when her husband was killed. Samuel King is former Amish so the elders agree for him to stay in the area to protect Sara and find the killer.
Her family is sure she is safe until someone starts shooting.

I was wondering how they would resolve this. It's a romance that looked impossible. Diane Burke came up with the perfect solution in my point of view.
It had lots of drama, suspense.Amish and English worlds that did come together to protect the innocent. It left me with a smile. It is a clean read. Does talk about prayers, and God's will. To me it was a good balance fitting the story. Though I do admit shedding a few tears in this story. Also some laughter.

Sarah was taking some lunch to the school house when she ended up being shot. Her husband and one other man was killed. Sarah wakes up having no memories of herself, or her husband even the killer. The killer believes that Sarah has his diamonds that he had stolen. While she was in the hospital a few others were killed even two policeman who was protecting her.

Samuel was raised Amish. He left the Amish and becames a undercover cop. When a murder and thief was after Sarah. They sent him undercover. Samuel knew and respected the Amish ways. He fit in better than anyone else could have. He could do the work around the farm close to the house to protect her.

Sarah was also pregnant. She lived with her in-laws. Because she had lost her family when she was younger they raised her. Sarah ham married her best friend their only son Peter. This will be Rebecca and Jacob's only grandchild.

The murder leaves no one alive who is a witness. He does not care who he hurts or kills to get what he wants. You just want him to stop hurting them and destroying everything he touches.

Sarah wonders who she really is. Who was her husband? They have no pictures to help her to remember. Her Amish community loves and cares about her even if she does not remember them.

Samuel living and dressing like an Amish again has to deal with his memories of what happened to him at 17 and made him choose to leave the Amish ways.

I really enjoyed Hidden in Plain View and definately want to read more books from Diane in the future.

I was given this ebook and asked to give honest review of it when I had finshed by Netgalley.

Sarah Lapp woke up in a hospital and no memory how she got there. She hurts very much and realized she has an arm wrapped and her head was pounding. Upon becoming fully awake she saw a stranger in the hospital room. Now what is going on as she has no idea what is wrong.

Samuel King is a cop who is there to protect Sarah. She has no knowledge who she is. Later she is told she had a husband who was shot at the Amish school house and that is where she also was when a man came in and started shooting.

Sam was raised Amish but after losing his own parents he selected going into the English world and serve as a policeman to protect those who will not do it themselves.

Sarah learns many things she can not recall anyone. Her in -laws gives her a place to stay during her recovery but she didn't know it was her home even before she married their son. As a young lady she was lost as her parents died and she ended up living with them. One of Sarah's parents were also English.

Samuel is hired to protect Sarah as the killer is still at large and Amish seems to be a target. The killer is out for blood and also thinks Sarah has something that belongs to him. Until he gets what he is looking for, no one seems to be safe. Amish believes GOD will take care of them and so they will not do harm or fight their own battles, which is where Samuel comes in.

Barn fires, many other incidents including an attempt on Sarah's life while she is in the hospital gives enough readers some adventure and many chances to feel a lot of suspense.

Will Sarah ever remember her life before the shooting and to add to the mess, she is also pregnant and has no knowledge if her late husband even knew the child was on the way. Can she save her unborn child which is the only thing she has left her her marriage and late husband. Will the child look like him or her. Since Amish does not believe in taking images, no pictures will ever tell her what her own husband looked like.

Sarah discovers she has feelings toward Samuel and has no idea why, is he someone she knew before or is all these feelings all new to her.

The Amish side believes in no violence but this case can test their beliefs, how can they allow an Englisher inside their home and not be against what the bishop wants.

" Hidden In Plain View" by Diane Burke is a 5 star book. I read this book because it was the book that my online book club was reading for the next discussion. And I really enjoyed it. It has a twist that aren't in many Amish books. I sure didn't see it ending the way it did.

This story caught my interest as soon as I started reading it. At first I thought it was based on the 2006 Nickel Mines, Pennsylvania, Amish school because the first scene in the book is a shooting in the school. It turns out the story isn't related to that real story at all.

Sarah Lapp's husband is shot and killed and he is injured and Sarah sinks into blessed oblivion and when she wakes up she has lost her memory. She cannot remember her husband or her life or the fact that she is pregnant. The undercover detective Samuel King is an exAmish person. The murders and other crimes keep happening. There is a growing attraction between Sarah and Samuel, but Sarah is an Amish widow and pregnant and Samuel is English. How can this love between the two be good and how can Samuel protect Sarah without getting her shun? Will Sarah ever regained her memory? That question would make a good sequel to this book! I really didn't see this story ending the way it did but I think (and I believe most of the group members in my online club) it was a GREAT SOLUTION.

Even though this book is Amish, I think anyone that loves to read mysteries or good clean love stories would like this story as it is part of the Love Inspired Suspense stories.

Another great book by Diane Burke. The title was very fitting, because it's an Amish story. What I loved about this book was both main characters are struggling with their own identities: "Who am I?" and "To what world do I want to belong (Amish or Englisch?" Both characters approach this struggle from a different perspective; one doesn't remember her past, and the other has chosen leave his past behind and take another path. Then they find their paths colliding, and each must help the other come to terms with what they've left behind, and what their future might be. As always, Diane does a great job with her characters; each is well-written and believable, and there's a powerful emotional thread weaving through the whole story. I definitely recommend this great book!

Love Conquers All...
A gunman stole Sarah Lapp's husband along with her memory. Now she lives for the life growing inside her. But the gunman is not finished with her, and the man tasked to protect her, threatens to steal the one thing she has left... her aching heart.
Detective Samuel King left his Amish life behind after the death of his parents, but he can't shake the guilt he still carries in his heart. Determined to protect Sarah and her unborn child, he fights his growing love for her, knowing they can never be together.
This book grabs you by the throat from page one and wrenches every drop of emotion from your heart by the time you finish the last page.

This is a very basic storyline that gets used over and over, but I still enjoyed the extras behind it. I like learning more about Amish customs. I also like how they made everything work out, without resorting to making exceptions to the shun. I thought the whole amnesia and not remembering her husband was strange, especially when she was attracted to Samuel. Weird. I got over it though, and ended up enjoying the story and how many times she had to be saved! Wow! A lot of action!

Wow, what can I say about this book besides that I absolutely loved it!! It is one of those books that I just could not put down and finished it within two sittings. This book is what I call an Amish murder mystery, that is fast paced, with lots of twists, and turns. This is my first Diane Burke book and I can assure you it won't be my last.

Enjoyed this story of suspense with an Amish women injured and a killer after her. An ex-Amish undercover cop thrown in the mix and you've got a great story. After Sarah Lapp is sent home to recover her bullet wounds, Samuel follows her and is enveloped into the community to help keep her safe from the psychopath that is after her. A good edge of your seat story and emotional towards the end.
