নিডিয়া টেবিলে একটু ঝুঁকে পড়ে বললো, রিশান একটা অত্যন্ত গুরুত্বপূর্ণ প্রশ্ন করেছে। সেটা সম্পর্কে তোমার মতামত জানতে চাই।
লি-রয় রিশানের দিকে তাকিয়ে বলল, কী প্রশ্ন?
রিশান ইতস্তত করে বলল, ঠিক প্রশ্ন নয় একটা সন্দেহ। আমাদের এই দলটির সব কয়জন সদস্য অত্যন্ত কঠোর স্বভাবের, আমাকে এখানে টেনে আনার সেটাও একটা কারণ। মহাকাশ অভিযানে এরকম একটি দল পাঠানোর পিছনে সত্যিকার উদ্দেশ্যটা কী? মনুষ্য বসবাসের উপযোগী গ্রহ উপগ্রহ সম্পর্কিত জরিপ কথাটি এক ধরণের ভাঁওতাবাজি ছাড়া আর কিছু নয়। আমার ধারণা আমাদের এমন একটি পরিস্থিতিতে ফেলে দেয়া হবে যেটি হবে ভয়ংকর এবং নৃশংস। আমাদের সেই অবস্থা থেকে বের হয়ে আসা ছাড়া আর কিছুই করার থাকবে না-

Muhammed Zafar Iqbal (Bengali: মুহম্মদ জাফর ইকবাল) is one of the most famous Bangladeshi author of Science-Fiction and Children's Literature ever to grace the Bengali literary community since the country's independence in 1971. He is a professor of Computer Science & Engineering at Shahjalal University of Science and Technology (SUST). Before that, Iqbal worked as a research scientist in Bell Communication Research for six years until 1994.
Birth and Family Background:
Iqbal was born on 23 December 1952 in Sylhet. His father, Foyzur Rahman Ahmed, was a police officer. In his childhood, he traveled various part of Bangladesh, because of his father's transferring job. Zafar Iqbal was encouraged by his father for writing at an early life. He wrote his first science fiction work at the age of seven. On 5 May 1971, during the liberation war of Bangladesh, the Pakistan's invading army captured his father and killed him brutally in the bank of a river.
Education:
Iqbal passed SSC exam from Bogra Zilla School in 1968 and HSC exam from Dhaka College in 1970. He earned his BSc in Physics from Dhaka University in 1976. In the same year Iqbal went to University of Washington to obtain his PhD and earned the degree in 1982.
Personal Life:
Iqbal married Dr. Yasmeen Haque in 1978. Yasmeen is the Dean of the Life Science Department, Head of the Physics Department, Provost of the Shohid Janoni Jahanara Imam Hall and a researcher at SUST. They have two children - son Nabil and daughter Yeshim. Yeshim translated the book Amar Bondhu Rashed (Rashed, My Friend) written by her father. Iqbal's elder brother, Humayun Ahmed, was the most popular author and film-maker of Bangladesh since its independence. Humayun died after a nine-month struggle against colorectal cancer on the 19 July 2012. His younger brother, Ahsan Habib, is the editor of the satirical magazine, Unmad and one of the most reknowned cartoonist of Bangladesh.
Academic Career:
After obtaining PhD degree, Iqbal worked as a post-doctoral researcher at California Institute of Technology (CalTech) from 1983 to 1988. He then joined Bell Communications Research (Bellcore), a separate corporation from the Bell Labs (now Telcordia Technologies), as a Research Scientist. He left the institute in 1994 and joined the faculty of the Department of CSE of SUST.
Literary career:
Iqbal started writing stories from a very early age. Iqbal wrote his first short story at the age of seven. While studying in the Dhaka University Iqbal's story Copotronic Bhalobasa was published in a local magazine. But, a number of readers at that time felt that the story was based on a foreign story. To answer this allegation, he later rewrote the story and published the story in collection of stories named Copotronic Sukh Dukkho. Since then he is the most popular writer both in Bengali Science-Fiction and in Juvenile Leterature of the country.
Other Activities and Awards:
Zafar Iqbal won the Bangla Academy Award, the highest award in literature in Bangladesh, in 2004. Iqbal also played a leading role in founding Bangladesh Mathematical Olympiad. In 2011 he won Rotary SEED Award for his contribution in field of education.

পৃথিবীর কয়েকজন মহাকাশচারী- রিশান, নিডিয়া, হান, বিটি, ষুন এবং দলপতি লি-রয়কে দায়িত্ব দেওয়া হয়, মানুষ বসবাস করতে পারে এমন এক গ্রহ খুজে বের করার। মহাকাশ যান চলতে চলতে হঠাৎ করে তারা জানতে পারে, এর পাশাপাশি তাদের আরো একটি কাজ করতে হবে। আর তা হলো, একটি গ্রহে ল্যাণ্ড করার পাশাপাশি সেই গ্রহটিতে এক কোষী কিছু জীবাণুকে ধ্বংস করে দিতে হবে। সহজ একটা কাজ, কিন্তু কেন রিশানের এত আপত্তি? সে কেন এ জীবাণুকে ধ্বংস করার পক্ষপাতি নয়? তার এ পদক্ষেপের ফলে একের পর এক মানুষ মরতে থাকে। তবুও একরোখা রিশান তাদের ধ্বংস করতে রাজী হয় না। জীবাণুর প্রতি রিশানের এ ভালোবাসার উৎস কী- তাই এ উপন্যাসের আসল চমক, আসল রহস্য।
মুহম্মদ জাফর ইকবালের প্রায় সকল উপন্যাসের সফল সমাপ্তি থাকলেও এ উপন্যাস তার ব্যতিক্রম। এ উপন্যাস পাঠককে চিন্তার খোরাক জাগাতে সাহায্য করবে। এ উপন্যাস যেন শেষ হয়েও হইল না শেষ, এ উপন্যাস শেষ হবার পর পাঠকের মনে এই প্রশ্ন আসা খুবই স্বাভাবিক যে, যদি এমন কোনো পরিস্থিতির সামনে তারা এসে দাড়ায়, তাহলে তারা কী করবে? এ উপন্যাস পাঠের পর আমি তো চমকে উঠেছিলাম, চমকে উঠতে পারেন আপনিও। তাই এ উপন্যাস পড়ুন।

কিছু কমন ট্রোপ (হৃদয়হীন দলপতি, অভিযান চলাকালীন ভুল-বোঝাবুঝি) থাকলেও সাসপেন্স জমিয়ে তোলায় লেখাটি পুরোপুরি সিদ্ধিলাভ করেছে।
বেশ ভালো লাগল।

গল্পটা শুরু হয় আট-দশটার গল্পের মত।রিশান নামক এক মহাকাশচারীকে এক মিশনের নাম দিয়ে অন্য মিশন সম্পর্ন্ন করার জন্য পাঠায়।হয়তো এটাই বড় ভুল ছিল।তাদের যে মিশনে পাঠানো হয় তা গোপন করা হয়।কিন্তু রিশান তা সময় মত বুঝে যায়....তারপর.... বাকীটা জানতে হলে গল্পটা পড়তে হবে।
গল্পে রিশানের চিন্তাধারার সাথে একমত হতে পারছি না।তার মতে "বুদ্ধিমান প্রানী ধ্বংস করা যায় না। এই মহাবিশ্বে আমাদের যতটুকু অধিকার আছে ঠিক তাদেরও ততটুকু অধিকারই আছে"
এই মত ধারা এটা বুঝায় এই মহাবিশ্বের সবকিছুর অধিকার রাখে একমাত্র বুদ্ধিমান প্রানীরা। কিন্তু পরে সে এটা ঠিকেই বলে,"নিম্ন শ্রেনী প্রানী যাদের বুদ্ধি নেই আমাদের জন্য ক্ষতিকর তাদের ধ্বংস করাই ভালো।"এখন কথা হচ্ছে যারা উচু বুদ্ধিমান মানে মানুষ এর থেকে বেশি বুদ্ধিমান হলেতো তারা মানুষের প্রয়োজনীয়তা অনুভব করবে না।নিচ শ্রেনী মতই ধ্বংস করে দিবে।এই কথা গুলোর জন্য আমি একে ২ পয়েন্ট দিলাম।আর বেশি দিলাম না।কারন আমি মনে করি,"কোন জাতি কত বুদ্ধিমান তা যাই আসে না। আগে নিজ জাতিরক্ষা করা চায় তার পর অন্য প্রজাতি"।

কিছু নভোচারীকে একটা টিম করে একটা গ্রহে পাঠানো নিয়ে এ গল্প। জাফর ইকবালের অন্যান্য গল্পের মত এটার মধ্যে হিউমার নেই। বরং ডার্ক একটা ব্যাপার আছে। যখন আমি পড়েছিলাম তখন আমার কাছে পুরো বইটাই বিষণ্ণ লেগেছিল।

রিশান, নিডিয়া, হান, বিটি, ষুন এবং দলপতি লি-রয়কে বসবাসের উপযোগী কোনো গ্রহ খুজে বের করার দায়িত্ব দেওয়া হয়।মাত্র এক বছর পর পৃথিবী থেকে এক আলোক বর্ষ দূরে এক গ্রহ থেকে যোগাযোগের চেষ্টায় পাঠানো সিগনালকে বিশ্লেষণ করে তাদের শীতল ঘর থেকে জাগিয়ে তোলা হয়।সেই গ্রহে কিছু বছর পূর্বে মানুষ বসতি গড়ে উঠেছিলো।
গ্রহটিতে নেমে তারা জানতে পারে গ্রুণা ভাইরাসের জন্য সকল মানুষ মারা গেছে কেবল দশ বছর বয়সী সানি বেচে আছে আর আছে চারটি অপ্রকৃতস্থ রোবট।তথ্য ঘাটাঘাটি করে তারা জানতে পারে এখানে অনেক মানুষ মৃত ব্যক্তিদের প্রতিমুর্তি দেখিতে পেরেছিলো রিশানও এমন কিছু একটা দেখতে পায়।গ্রুণা ভাইরাসের জন্য দলপতি লি-রয় মারা গেলে ষুনের কাছে ক্ষমতা হস্তান্তর করা হয়।ষুন গ্রুণা ভাইরাসকে ধ্বংস করার সিদ্ধান্ত নেয়।রিশান বুঝতে পারে এই গ্রহের বুদ্ধিমান প্রাণী হচ্ছে মৃত মানুষদের মস্তিষ্কের ম্যাপিং।গ্রুণা ভাইরাস নিজেদের শুর পরস্পর সংযুক্ত করে মস্তিষ্কের নিউরনের মতো সৃষ্টি করে।রিশান এর বিরোধিতা করে অক্সিজেন ও গ্রহের তাপমাত্রা বাড়িয়ে বুদ্ধিমান প্রাণীদের রক্ষা করে।আদতে তারা আলাদা কেউ নয় সবাই মিলে সম্মিলিত সত্তা।রিশান সানি ও বাকিদের নিয়ে মহাকাশ যানে পৃথিবীতে ফেরত আসে এবং মহাকাশ যানেত আইন না মানায় এবং বুদ্ধিমান প্রাণীকে ধ্বংস না করায়।রিশানের মৃত্যু দন্ড হয়।কিন্তু তার মৃত্যুদন্ড দাতা আক্রান্ত হয় গ্রুণা ভাইরাসে।

When i was very young,on 1998,i got this as a gift.Did not understand much of it.I re-read this one and the first science fiction volume of Muhammad Zafar Ikbal again on 2003/2004..This is one of the first science fiction that i remember reading.For that reason,it was certainly memorable.However,MZI has written a few better ones...even if this one or the other ones have shadows of russian sci-fi.
Unlike many later ones,this one is not a "repeat" story with few elements changed(eg.Metsis,E-ron etc.),so it gets 1 more than 3 stars.

Oder captain decision ney whole planet takey destroy korey divey including the intelligent creature. But Rishan decided not to destroy that creature even though it was against his team's decision...

জাফর ইকবাল সারের সব বইই অসাধারন। আর এই বইটিতেও তার বৈজ্ঞানিক সাহিত্য প্রতিভা চমৎকার ভাবে ফুটে উঠেছে।

মুহম্মদ জাফর ইকবাল স্যারের বই মানেই আলাদা কিছু, আমি ওনার সায়েন্স ফিকশনের পাগলা ভক্ত। এই বইটাও দারুণ উপভোগ্য ছিল।

ছোটকাল থেকে জাফর স্যারের সায়েন্স ফিকশন পড়া শুরু। বহু দিন পর আবার নয় নয় শুন্য তিন টা পড়লাম। মহাকাশ অভিযানের মাধ্যমে শুরু করে পুরো বইটার মাঝেই অভিযানের অজানা রহস্য ভেদ করার মাঝে দিয়ে গেছে। কাহিনি মোটামুটি খুব বেশি নেশাদায়ক না আবার একেবারে ঠেলে ফেলাবার মত না।
