Angelic Hellfire is a coming-of-age story focusing on Aaliyah, a young woman who ran away from home when she was a teenager. She lives in the worst part of town but always dreams of a better day and an unlikely encounter with a mysterious stranger gives her the final push she needs to rebuild her life.
Tormented by personal demons she embarks on a fantastic journey striving to realise the potential which she knows lies within her. She finds that going home is not always a happy reunion but just as she's at her lowest ebb the mysterious stranger re-appears and offers her an opportunity which opens her mind to the vast possibilities of the universe. Can she step out of the shadows from her past and enter the bright future which awaits?
I'm Robert D. Spake and I live in Southampton, England. I'm an author looking to share my work at the moment. I've lived in England most of my life but I've been lucky enough to have the opportunity to travel, which included a period where I lived in America and worked at Disneyworld.
I have an eclectic taste in almost everything and this is reflected in my writing - my aim is to write at least one thing in every genre. My stories generally focus on the anguish of life and tortured souls who seek to overcome their own shortcomings and be better than they are.
Currently I have a novel, Angelic Hellfire, available on Amazon along with a number of short stories and a collection of poems. On my blog I'm writing a serial about a superhero and I've reached chapter 9 so far. Along with novels and short stories I'm also working on a couple of scripts for plays and musicals.
There were parts of this book that I loved ... and parts of this book that I loathed. I am totally ... overloaded. It's like the book hit on every genre possible.
I get the main character. I see where she comes from on a lot of things and I have felt that way before, but the angst *rolls eyes* oh Jeez.
Up until she "runs away" the second time, it's just drags on and on. Reading ten pages felt like reading much much more. At 80% through, I was still unsure of whether I liked the book or not. To be honest, had I not been given this book for free in exchange for an honest review, I probably would have put the book down and not picked it back up for a few months. There was just not enough to keep me coming back, but there was enough to make me curious see what would happened.
It had some very interesting moments, but there were points that were really just unrealistic even for a sci-fi-esque book. In my opinion, this would have been much better as a novella series - taking each part and adding more to it, then giving people the chance to digest what they had really before moving on to the next part of the story in the next novella.
I would recommend it, but I will say that you need to take your time and really let the transitions settle before moving on to the next part of the story.
