This is a well written vampire story with a twist. The author does a great job building the story and brings a cast of strong characters. He adds ancient history and weaves an interesting story that had me glued to the pages right to the end. He moves the story fluidly with his detailed and descriptive writing and delivers a terrific read.
I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book. All opinions in this review are my own and freely given.
Incorporating a touch of history to make it feel real, we are given the story, presented by Alexandra and Desmond, of three vampires who come together as mercenaries under the name of the Scarlet Order as they recruit others for their cause. Their mission is to protect the rulers in power, kings and emperors, against attack from marauders, invaders, and rogue vampires as the world succumbs to evil and darkness.
It’s always fascinating to read an author’s vision of the vampire’s unique attributes in the building of the story line. The book is well-written, clever, and will hold the reader’s attention throughout.
Aside from the typos, the timeline distraction, and the killing off of characters I loved, this was a good book. The storyline was great. I enjoyed the dual narration. The historical background was a relief from the modern day stories I typically read.It also doesn't hurt that the author is a great conversationalist. I am grateful to have met him at his book signing at Boutique du Vampyre in New Orleans in the summer of 2017.
The story centers around a slave in Ancient Greece, Alexandra and the two men who come to mean a lot to her, a vampire called the Dragon, Lord Desmond and assassin Roquelaure. The story tells how the Scarlet Order came to be, it had a very good storyline. The Author brings ancient history to life. This is a new Author to me.
WATCH OUT DRACULA! There's a woman who can take you on and more! Excellent book! Loved it!
All I have to say is that this book does not disappoint. It starts with the most poignant comment that slavery or being owned was awful. The book is centered around a woman driven not to be owned or used. She was strong, noble, and kind, but she wanted to be free. She would use any means to be free. I loved her counterpart who was in David Lee Summer's other book which I also love Demetrius. I hope I got the spelling right.
If you love Paranormal Vamps with a bite, you HAVE to race out and buy this book. It was fun, sexy, and adventurous at the same time.
It takes a lot to satisfy my hunger for good Vampire books and this one of my FAVORITES!
FIVE STAR to David Lee Summers and Dragon's Fall - Bondage!
David Lee Summers doesn't disappoint with this book. I was hooked from the first page and just couldn't put the book down. I loved his different takes on vampires and their special abilities, and how they became vampires. There's a lot of action and steamy romance, so I wouldn't suggest it for anyone under 16, but for the rest of us who love great stories, this is the book. Not only does the book deal with vampires, but the author takes us from very ancient Greece through the centuries, so if you love historical fiction - this book has it. Great read. I absolutely loved it and couldn't set it down. I had read other books by him and thought I'd give this book a try, and I'm glad I did.
It's been quite a while since I've read a book concerning vampires so when I picked up Dragon's Fall, naturally I immediately wondered to myself, "Hmmm, I wonder what kind of vampires these are going to be." Well, I was pleasantly surprised that the way they are depicted in the book is almost exactly how I see a vampire to be. The book actually hooked me within the first couple pages, which is tough to do for me sometimes! For me, the parts alluding to ancient history were a major high point as well since I enjoy history as well. A must read.
