Please forgive this sudden disturbance. I am Rukia Kuchiki of the Thirteenth Squad. I have heard lately that Kisuke Urahara has completed a method that will allow Soul Reaper Agent Ichigo Kurosaki to regain his soul reaper powers. It requires many different soul reapers to give their spiritual pressure to a special sword, which will be transferred to him via stabbing, allowing him to turn into a soul reaper again. This is an illegal transfer of soul reaper powers, against the laws of Soul Society, and will result in severe punishment if discovered. I hope that those who have thought this over yet will still wish to help will gather today after the workday is over, at the house of Kukaku Shiba in District 1 Junrinan of West Rukongai.

The story centers around the events happening in the Soul Society during the Fullbringer Arc of BLEACH. At that time Ichigo had been living without his soul reaper powers and his friends tried their hardest to find a way to help him. Urahara created a sword that could give Ichigo his powers back, but a huge amount of spiritual pressure was needed for it to work. Such a transfer of soul reaper powers was against the law of the Soul Society, but everyone, perfectly knowing the law, still decided to help.

Wait for me, Ichigo! I will definitely help you regain your powers. [Rukia]

Since the book doesn't have an official English translation, I had to get my hands on the unofficial version (I'm sending a huge thank you to all the people that participated in it!). The story made me both laugh my ass off and cry my eyes out. I wish so badly for it to be a part of the anime. It was so cute and wholesome, and I adore and love so much how big of an impact Ichigo had on everyone through his journey. I can't explain how much it meant for me to witness it here, on BLEACH: The Deaths Save The Strawberry book.

Everyone had been on board (except for Mayuri, who wanted to be a snitch, but it backfired)! E V E R Y O N E! I love how Urahara went to work immediately after Ichigo lost his powers. I love how determined Rukia was to help him. I knew that many prominent Soul Reapers (like Byakuya, Hitsugaya and Kenpachi) participated in this project and it was already an incredible surprise (I cried so hard when I watched their entrance in the anime and I cried the same way when I witnessed it in the manga). Ichigo said that he felt many people's spiritual pressure through the sword, and I was overjoyed enough to not give it a second thought. My mind had been blown when I realized how many people actually helped in Urahara's project. It weren't just captains and lieutenants. It weren't just 3rd and 4th and 5th seats, nooooo. There were all the Vizards as well. It felt like entire Gotei 13 participated in it. Everyone, no matter their differences, extended a helping hand to create the sword and bring Ichigo his powers back. Ichigo brought everyone together. Ichigo made a change, a change that seemed impossible to ever happen. It was so beautiful, I cried for hours afterward.

Despite the fact that the book's center had been the need to help Ichigo regain his soul reaper powers, the reader got some info here and there about the life in the Soul Society. For example you can see how's the dynamic between the new captains of Gotei 13 and their lieutenants: Shinji and Hinamori, Rose and Kira, and Kensei and Hisagi. You realize what impact the old captains had on the lieutenants and how the new ones, despite the differences and despite fighting each other once, continue their legacy (the Gin one destroyed me 🤧). There are also many wholesome interactions between other captains and lieutenants and the lower seats, that immediately transported me back to the fun times of BLEACH when Ichigo and the gang were spending time in the Soul Society and everyone had been together and happy. It was so precious to me.

Overall, I'm so glad that I decided to pick this book up (and so happy that I managed to find the unofficial translation - otherwise I would have cried in desperation). It's such a great addition to the already existing story (I just wish it was added to the anime) and I loved it so much ☺️

Some of the quotes (centered around the need to help Ichigo, but not only):

At school he would always stare at places where spirits used to appear, but he couldn't see anything at all. He'd tried to convince himself that this was the life he'd wanted all along, forcing himself to smile. 😭

The only proof that Gin ever existed was this one persimmon tree. 😭

Shinji & Hinamori:
"Even though Rukia-chan sent the text, transferring soul reaper powers is against the law. If you don't want to go, you can just pretend that you don't know that I'm going."
"I'm going too."
"Of course, following the law is important. However, if you're breaking the law to do something you believe is just and right, then maybe the real problem is with the law itself. If we're held back by the law and forced to let go of things that we should do, then that is wrong. Captain Aizen once said this."
"He did say some pretty things, that fellow... Then can we say that I said it instead? Help me spread the word, Momo!"

Kira and Rose:
"So?"
"What do you mean so?"
"Is Kira going or not?"
"Of course I am," he replied without a shred of hesitation.
"Without hesitation! How attractive!" Rose whistled, jokingly.
"Please do not joke about it. I don't have a really strong sense of justice. I just want to reduce our guilt for forcing him to sacrifice himself for us. And..."
"And?"
"He is also the last person who saw the Captain alive."

Kyoraku and Nanao:
"I've always felt that it was unacceptable... that our current peaceful lives came at the cost of his great sacrifice. And I couldn't do anything to express my thanks. Ever since the battle ended... I've always thought so, and it's been very painful. Captain, if I lose my position because of this..."
"You won't. It won't happen. How convenient that I've been thinking about it too lately."

Komamura and Tetsuzaemon:
"Captain, I've decided to go. If I don't repay Ichigo Kurosaki's great kindness to us, then it goes against what it means to be a man! However, if I went and did it without letting the captain know, then that's the same as betraying captain. I'm going to be causing trouble for captain, so I'm extremely sorry! I hope that captain will pretend not to know anything about what I've said or shown you today! Please."
"Can you lend me that text message? That way, even if I cannot give any spiritual pressure to Ichigo Kurosaki, if Genryusai-dono asks then I can still do all that I can. I'm the same as you, in that I want to do something for that teenager."

Kensei and Hisagi:
"Text... Are you talking about an electronic text? What happened?"
Kensei raised an eyebrow at his question. "What? Nobody sent one to you?"
He handed it over for Hisagi to see. Both of Hisagi's shoulders were shaking as he slowly said: "This is the first time I've seen it."
"... So you don't have any friends then."
Kensei looked at him in sympathy and walked out of the office.
"Hu...!" Hisagi bit his bottom lip and forced himself not to cry as he looked blurrily at the manuscript again. Half an hour later, when he saw Kira's forward text, he started to cry in silence.

(this made me even more grateful for CFYOW existence - my boy got an opportunity to shine 😭)

"Ichigo Kurosaki finally fulfilled his purpose of being bait." Mayuri looked at Ukitake.
Ukitake remained silent and lowered his head with an extremely sad look on his face. 🤧

Genryusai:
"No matter what, we were all saved by Ichigo Kurosaki. This time it is our turn to save him. Even if it requires violating our own laws, allowing such a debt to go unpaid would be the 13 Court Guard Squad's eternal shame!"
