The fire from a resurrected dragon is not the kind of heat this feline enjoys.
We escape Fafnir by the skin of our teeth, yet as we flee one danger, we discover a new threat. Hunters. Humans who kill supernatural beings.
Charlie, Zaide and I take refuge with the supernatural council on a secret island, protected by ancient wards. The creators of the wards are a family of witches who have lived on the island for centuries and are thrilled to have guests…maybe too thrilled.
Regardless, it’s a chance for us to rest, train and explore the pleasures of our new bonds before we attempt to stop Fafnir. The council wants to prevent him from decimating supernatural populations but for us, it’s more personal.
Despite the powerful wards on the island, Baelen somehow joins us, injured and behaving strangely, which makes us question…how reliable are the wards? And how long do we have until we are found?

OMG. The FMC gets more and more annoying with every book. In the first one, she was bursting into tears at the slightest provocation; in the second one, she was reckless and foolish; in this one, she was a combination of both. 🙄 Why, oh why was she ignoring her instincts and blurting out all kinds of information in front of strangers? And why are they partying while their soul mate is lying unconscious? Dnf @ 65% since the plot is not moving forward, the villain is running around doing god knows what while the MCs repeatedly party, "research" and have emotional ruminations.
Update: I managed to finish this book by skimming quite a bit, but I still have many questions. Why are they allowing these strange witches to trap them in pentagons to use their magic? It's as if Karin is openly revealing her intentions to everyone with half a brain. And what’s with Charlie suddenly acting like a jerk? This entire book felt like filler content that could have been condensed into a few chapters at the beginning of the next installment. I’m still curious about Fafnir, so I plan to read the next book. However, if the main characters continue to dawdle and can't even tell their enemies from their friends, I might give up on the series halfway through.

"Catapult" is the third book in the "Tales of a Witch's Familiar" and I absolutely love the plot development of this series! So much is happening, and it's amazing to see how parts that feel coincidental at first all seem to be connected in some way. It's like getting tiny puzzle pieces throughout each book, and then watch them fit together in a truly unexpected way, revealing a picture you could have never imagined before that. Still, the story never feels too complicated and it all flows perfectly together, resulting in an interesting story that flows easily.
I love the characters in this series just as much as their storyline, but Charlie is still my favorite. His quick wit adds a fun element to it all, even when it starts to look as if there is no way for these characters to ever reach peace and quiet. Add to that a bunch of twists and turns, and a massive cliffhanger, and you're in for a wonderful ride while reading this book! I can't wait to see what will be next for all these people.
I think this book was my favourite so far, it delved more into the MMC's struggles and overall made them feel very relatable. Again, the FMC is still not that great for me. She is naive and overly trusting, over and over again. There seems to be no sense of survival?? No character is perfect and flawless, and I love that! Plus the author still makes this feel more realistic (even if it is all magical, paranormal beings haha) with every day issues and tasks too. Frustrating cliff hanger, so I am not sure people will want to start the series until it is complete if they don't like a steep cliff hanger! I can see improvement in the writing from the first book to this one, and that is making each read more enjoyable. The world is memorable, and the characters stay in my mind. It does seem like there is a lot happening, without one chapter being closed and moving on. One thing will happen, and then something else happens and then back to what was previously happening. I think whilst they were on the island I wanted more planning, more pushing to be involved with the council and searching to find the Dragon. Not just read books, eat food a lot, have a party etc. until the big plot near the end that I wont share.
I love this series as this is the third book in the series and it keeps getting better and just when you think you know what is going to happen some other plot twist happens and it is so compelling to read. I want more.
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Book 3 in a must read series for sure! So much is happening and I love the plot here so much. You'll see this too I'd you read all the books. Random things are connected after all. I love the characters in the story and am rooting for Charlie. Honestly can't wait for the next book. It'll be the last.
This is a compelling third book in the Tales of a Witch's Familiar series. The plot is thickening and full of twists. I am loving all the bits that seem to be coming togther. The storyline and flow were nice and easy to follow. I really enjoyed this continuation of the series.
Another fabulous edition to the series, this had it all. Loved seeing Zaide having more focus, didn't see Charlie ending up like his great great grandfather. Next book please Alba.
What happened to Charlie? He was amazing in book 1 and is just more and more of an asshole every book! And why on earth would he be afraid of periods? The book is set in the 21st century, that's just pathetic.
I literally am so invested in the whole scobby gang...it was a roller coaster of emotions for me...I can not wait to see where this story takes us next.
Is it wrong that I want to smack the author? Leaving me there!!!! I know cliffhangers but seriously!!!!
This is the third book in the series and I have learned that this author loves cliffhangers.
The plot development in this book is great. There is an insane amount of stuff *I can't tell you what* going on in this book alone. But the characters themselves are growing too. The story flows nicely and the puzzle pieces that the plot throws out at you all seem to align perfectly for a story that engages you and fulfills you while leaving you wanting more when you get to that last page.
I can't really pick a favorite character since I love them all, but I really do love Clawdicat!
Great book and I can't wait to see where the author goes with this story!
