Deep Down

Rate this book
Mike Haddican, proud small-town gym owner and renowned karate instructor, is an all-around good guy. He's never needed much to be happy. Only his family, his friends, his girl. Especially his girl. So when that girl up and left him seven years ago to chase her dreams, she all but destroyed him.

Sure, contemporary dancer Kyra Brims made it big, but it cost her dearly. Now her life and career are in shambles. She doesn't need a do-over; she needs a friggin' miracle. Injured, broke, and out of options, she returns to Alden, the town she swore she'd never see again -- and home of Mike Haddican, the man who ripped her soul to pieces -- to lick her wounds and recover.

Forgetting and letting go proved impossible when they were worlds apart; now that they’re stuck together they don’t stand a chance, especially with Mike’s grandma and her partners in crime plotting, meddling and refusing to give up on them. But as the passion that never died burns out of control, so do old hurts and unresolved issues. They're going to have to dig deep down to find forgiveness and the wisdom to move on.

After a colorful array of jobs all over Europe ranging from translator to chocolatier to travel agent to sushi chef to flight dispatcher, Elle Aycart is certain of one thing and one thing only: aside from writing romances, she has abso-frigging-lutely no clue what she wants to do when she grows up. Not that it stops her from trying all sorts of crazy stuff. While she is probably now thinking of a new profession, her head never stops churning new plots for her romances. She lives currently in Barcelona, Spain, with her husband and two daughters, although who knows, in no time she could be living at the Arctic Circle in Finland, breeding reindeer.

A second chance love story....riddled with juvenile drama and miscommunication....

So this was my first Elle Aycart read...I had no idea what to expect. I had no idea the OGs were the Original Grandma's and honestly, they were probably the best part of the book.

Mike and Kyra fell in love during high school. He was older. Dated through high school and her going to college. After Kyra graduates she wants to explore the world...experience life. She decides to join a cruise ship for some dancing gig.

Mike is a home-town boy. He has no desires to leave town and he doesn't want Kyra to either. So he does what any normal 20-something year old would do....tries to blackmail Kyra in to staying by proposing.

Kyra turns him down and the miscommunication ensues. Seven some odd years, a divorce and one kid later Kyra returns back to town jobless and broke. Kyra and Mike try to avoid each other at all costs. When they are in the room together it's anger and sexual tension overload.

The period scene...yes, as in time of the month.

And no, not because it was a la Fifty Shades of Gray....but because Mike has officially lost his nuts!

These two are now seriously nauseating! Just over-flowing with cheese.

It is now skim city....I don't know how much more of this I can take?!?!

After hating each other for seven years now they are OTT baby this and honey that...I know what you need, I know what you like, let me give it to you.

The drama at the end with Drake...

At least Kyra didn't run away again like I thought she was going to.

Not even the copious amount of sex could save this book...I'm sorry but Mike you were just too

I love it when an author finds a formula that works and sticks with it. If you read any of Elle Aycart's books, you know exactly what I am talking about - a macho guy who loves hard, a girl who has just enough sass not to be a complete pushover, close friends/family who happen to provide some of the funniest banter and some of THE hottest sex!

'Deep Down' didn't veer off the beaten path and thank God for that! It was as funny as it was sexy. It was an overall feel-good story (as it's always the case with Elle's books) and made you swoon extra hard because, in this case, our macho guy gets smitten by one of the cutest child characters ever written!

If you are a fan of Elle Aycart's work and love second chance romances, I think you'll really enjoy this one!

Cheers!

4 Second Chance Stars

Seven years ago Mike and Kyra were completely in love and they thought they would be together forever. But Mike was perfectly happy with his simple small town life and Kyra, as a dancer, wanted to pursue a career and travel the world.
When things reach an impact between them, Kyra goes away to chase her dream and Mike stays behind. And that’s the end of their relationship, but not their love.

description

Now, after a few bad years Kyra is back in town. With the end of an awful marriage, a daughter in her arms and broke she is starting her life again. At first she and Mike try to ignore each other but as old feelings start to re-appear they find out that in order to walk towards the future, sometimes you have to go back to the past and fix old mistakes.

description

Rating: 4,5 Stars.
Storyline: A scorching hot and sweet romance about a second chance with your first love. I’m finding out that there isn’t one Elle Aycart book that I didn’t like. There was some cheesiness overload, but other than that, it was nice and entertaining.
Writing Style: First person. Dual POV. Well written, sexy and engaging.
Character Development: Okay, although I really liked the story… the MC’s were a different story. Kyra was immature, annoying and if she had the ability of communicating with people, all of their problems would be easily solved. Mike was good… after he loosed the asshat attitude and admitted that some of the fault was on his side. The best part of this book was, however, the OG’s (Original Grandmothers) and their inability to text. They were sweet, funny and they brought the awesomeness factor to this book.
Steam: Oh so Hot!

This so didn't work for me, I like my adult characters to be just that -ADULTS. Instead both Mike and Kyra forgot they were 30 somethings and had actually left high school in their rear views years before. 🙄

Throw in the constant push and pull, pile on the blame, heap on the guilt and mix in ridiculous assumptions going back seven years and don't even get me started on the tampon scene 😨 and yeah, totally not for me.

“I haven’t forgotten a single thing. I remember it all.”

I am of the opinion that Elle Aycart is trying to make us all self-combust by simply reading one of her books! I’ve read and loved her books in the past but NEVER have I found a book to be so incredibly arousing that it not only kept me hot and bothered page after page, but I was also genuinely ‘into’ every single sizzling scene in it. Mind you, this is not a book for the prude folk out there – we have a very dominant and rather kinky alpha male in the house who is not afraid to voice his wishes, and every time he opens his mouth, something so mind-blowing comes out of it that you will either blush like a schoolgirl or want to start a fan club. But do not be fooled, this is not a wham-bam-thank-you-ma’am-on-repeat kind of scenario – at the core of this mouth-watering book is a tender love story of second chances, one that stays with you long after the bookish afterglow is gone and you’re back breathing normally. If I told you that I loved this book, I’d be lying because I WORSHIPPED every word in it and plan on revisiting it whenever I am in dire need of a skin-tingling read.

“He didn’t want to want her, but his body hadn’t gotten the memo yet. Seven years and he was still pining for her. Still getting hard at the sound of her voice.”

Mike and Kyra were childhood sweethearts, each other’s first and only loves, but while Mike grew up in a large, loving family, Kyra was a foster child who dreamed of leaving their small town and making a name for herself as a dancer. With very different plans for the future, they part ways, heartbroken, bitter, angry with each other, and for seven long years their paths never cross again.

“I wanted to see the world. He wanted to keep me chained to the foot of his bed.”

Now a world-renowned dancer and mother to a beautiful little girl, Kyra seems to have achieved every dream she has ever had, but in reality, her dreams have cost her sorely. Forced to return to her home town to recover from an injury and a painful divorce, Kyra is no longer the same vibrant young woman she used to be, the past seven years having left her broken and vulnerable to the world around her.

“Humiliation is looking at that kid of hers, that beautiful baby girl who looks like the love of your life and wishing with all your heart she was yours and not some f*cking asshole’s. For six years I’ve hated him for being the father of the kid that should have been mine.”

Mike has never stopped aching for the woman who left him behind, his hurt having turned into an anger that reignites every time he thinks of her. Having her living again in their small town and avoiding her on a daily basis proves to be a challenge, only exacerbated by the well-intentioned meddling of the ‘Original Grandmas’ – the four town matrons who have decided to play Cupid. Pushed into each other’s arms, time after time, Mike and Kyra initially fight their feelings for one another, but their bodies have very different ideas in mind.

“Let me have you tonight. I took your virginity, baby. All you know about pleasure you learned from me. I know how to make it work for you, how to do you right. I know what you like. And how you like it.”

It all starts with a dance, a kiss, and before they know it, no amount of self-control can keep them apart. But seven years of resentment and what-ifs have left their mark, both now afraid to surrender their hearts once again while they willingly surrender their bodies. And, oh my God, what sweet surrender it is… The sexual tension, the submission to each other’s wildest fantasies, the passion in every single touch, are of the charts. I literally had to force myself to take deep breaths during some of those scenes. Just hearing Mike speak before, during and after sex would have been more than sufficient for me, but then Ms Aycart had to go and give us a beautiful love story as well and I was totally and utterly in book junkie nirvana.

“Tell me to leave… Tell me to get the hell out of here… If I stay here, I will f*ck you.”

This has got to be one of the best examples of erotica and romantic fiction merging together so flawlessly to give us a sexy but deeply emotional story to lose our minds over. Mike and Kyra are two characters who might have missed their happily-ever-after when youthful pride and dreams of greener pastures made them blind to what they already had, but life has taught them that second chances are rarely given, especially when the prize is the only thing they ever truly wanted in life. This became one of My Favourite Books even before I finished it, this story, these characters, this new series being everything I seek in a steamy read.

“I love you, Kyra. I was born to love you. It’s always been you. I’ve tried everything, believe me, to change that, but I realized at the end that I will die loving you.”

4.5 - Dirty-Talking, Pierced, Alpha Male Stars...

Mike Haddican has been in love with Kyra Brims for what feels like forever, she came to Aldean as a 9 year old foster child, and it was love at first sight. He waited until she was 16 to start dating her, and they moved in together when she turned 18. Mike was happy with his life in Aldean, he had his job, his family and his friends. But Kyra wanted more, as a professional dancer, the opportunities in Aldean were few, and her future was elsewhere...

7 years later and Kyla has returned a broke, and broken, divorced single mother - with a falling down house and her daughter Sam being the only things to her name.

What follows is the rebuilding of a shattered relationship, broken trust and fractured hearts. Kyra and Mike are both different people 7 years on and sometimes it is hard to let past hurts go. As they begin to reconnect, not everything about what happened before is as they originally thought. Mis-understandings, missed meetings and external interference played a BIG part in their pasts playing out as they did, and in opening up to each other and sharing their secrets (as well as having some of the dirtiest, well written and beautifully explicit sex), they gradually work towards building something stronger and more stable together.

“You’re holding me too close.”

“I don’t think so. I’m holding you just right.”

Elle Aycart writes some of the best alpha males I have ever had the fortune to come across (and whilst fantasizing about!). I love the Bowen brothers (and they pop up in Deep Down frequently), but Mike has to be her most demanding and dominant guy to date. He doesn’t ask he tells, and if he wants something, he takes it, no questions asked. You do not mess with what is his, and you certainly don’t touch his women… either of them.

“A man takes care of his woman and his children, always. Provides for them. Goes to jail to protect them if need be.”

You also have interspersed in this book the O.G’s or Original Grandmas as they are also known. Greta, Wilma and Rebecca are the funniest old timers I have ever had the pleasure of reading about, what with their antics with a Tazer, and not to forget their S.T.D…also known as Senior. Texting. Disorder!! The laughs are plentiful and just add something special to the story.

I am hoping Rachel gets her story next, and crossing my fingers that she gets the guy I want to see more of from the band Amantis!

3.5 stars...

This book might be a case of it's not you it's me, yes... For me I didn't seem to get it.

The story was blah blah and one of those which I've heard before.
Girl and boy are childhood sweethearts. Then at college they live together, he has a dream of happy ever after and she has dreams of her career of being a dancer.

They fight and she goes... And when she comes back his screwing someone else or so she thinks so she leaves and then gets knocked up by a douche bag and eventually ends up divorced with child and unhappy and flat broke.

She goes back and they re-unite after 7years but it's like they were never apart because they so drawn to each other.

They have Sex and lots of it... Every way possible and in every hole possible and he loves her and her kid and will do anything to protect them.

Yeah... That's basically it. The entire booked summed up in 2mins....

Again I say... You may like it, it just wasn't for me as I'm having a serious case of book funk.

What I loved about this book:
The sex was hot as hell. Pure smut and I loved it. Wow. Elle stepped her game up in this book!

Why not 5 stars? Mike. He was an asshole.

SPOILERS BELOW

I don't think he ever really owned up to his part in their breakup. I pretty much think it was all his fault. He never really acted or thought that he was the issue. The whole Jess thing got pushed under the rug and that was on him too. He never apologized for it or made amends for it. I couldn't get past it. So I never really liked him.

Also they brought up his slutdom way too much. It's one thing to be a whore but to say it vocally to your lover now or think it so much (as in at least once a chapter) is an asshole move. So yeah I didn't like him.

I can't give 5 stars when I really can't stand one of the charcters. I was was step back from him the whole book.

Elle Aycart is a favorite author of mine and her Bowen Brothers books are 1-click purchases for me. Deep Down is the first book in a new series, and again establishes Ms. Aycart as one of the queens of dirty-talking Alpha males!

Mike and Kyra were in love years before, but she wanted to leave their small town of Alden and follow her dream of becoming a professional dancer. Time passes and Kyra returns with her young daughter, divorced and broke. Mike is initially filled with anger at her for leaving him but their SIZZLING hot attraction soon becomes too strong for either of them to ignore. For the first part of the book, they are both too angry at each other to let their passionate relationship become any more than just sex.

Past misunderstandings are gradually cleared up and Mike and Kyra become more open to each other. But make no mistake, this book should be read and enjoyed for the completely dirty and smutty scenes and the dirty-talking Mike. There is some drama initially between Mike and Kyra, but their sex scenes together make this book a stand-out. Elle Aycart is in her own category in writing a pierced, tattooed, Alpha and Mike fits the bill to a “tee”! There is some humor here with the group of grandmas but for me, it was Mike who stole the show. He is hot, loving, protective and PIERCED. All in all, Deep Down is an absolutely enjoyable, super-hot and dirty book from the talented Elle Aycart.

☆ I received an RC via the author in exchange for an honest review. Thank you! ☆

This read made me pant in heat and laugh out loud. Elle Aycart is one of my go to authors and this novel proved to be another gem.

It was a tale of second chances, learning from your mistakes, making hard decisions, and navigating toward your future.

I adored Mike and Kyra. But, I ABSOLUTELY LOVED the OG's!! They cracked me up!! Hahahaha. I couldn't hold my laughter in over them. Totally animated characters that bring comic relief!

Ah, a delightful combination of love, sex, humor, and those once in a lifetime connections that can never be severed no matter time or space.

Loved it!

OK, so this was my first read by this author and it won't be my last. Now with that being said, I liked it but I just didn't love this story.

The storyline was good and had promise but the execution was weak for me personally. I felt like it just lacked some "depth" but all in all wasn't bad but found myself "bored".

What a disappointment. Completely frustrating book. The couple clears up the misunderstanding that divided them 7 years previously and start having sex. A lot of sex. Lots and lots of sex. Even during her period. And in the back door. But do they really discuss the underlying issues that split them up before? The fact that she wanted to pursue a career as a professional dancer, but couldn't in the small town that he didn't want to leave? Nope. Instead they just insist that the (tons of) sex is just temporary because they will eventually go their own ways again. Even though her daughter is getting very attached to him.

What really frustrates me is how Mike doesn't really take responsibility for any issues. It's all on her. He accuses her of not opening up to him. Meanwhile he won't tell her how he feels and won't let her give him a BJ because he doesn't want to be that vulnerable to her. Even though he technically admits that their prior misunderstanding was partially his fault for giving her an ultimatum and neither one of them being willing to compromise, he is STILL NOT EVEN CONSIDERING A COMPROMISE. Despite supposedly being completely in love and obsessed with her, he's willing to let their relationship end unless SHE is willing to give up her professional career to stay in the small town. He AGAIN EVEN REFUSES TO CONSIDER sacrificing his personal desires for her and their relationship.

Throughout the book, even though various characters admit that Mike was partially responsible for the breakup, most of the blame is still laid on her. Even by herself. And, really, by him. But at least he never gave any other woman oral smex and never let them swallow after a BJ. Wow! He's a hero! It must be true love!

(And, luckily, she refused to allow her husband any back door action, so we know that it's true love for her too. And, unlike the H, she only slept with the H and her husband, so she's still an acceptable heroine. - {heavy sarcasm}).

It's not until the very end that Mike thinks about reaching out and making some compromises himself. And he wouldn't have even thought of it if it hadn't been for his grandmother. A deep thinker, he is not. He really has barely matured in the 7 years he was screwing everything female., but suffering, without her.

And the sub-plot with the ex-husband was lame and predictable, and only added yet ANOTHER way that Mike could show how he's such a hero. And how Kyra screwed up in leaving him. And how lucky she is to have him. Ugh. (Could have just killed him off if the author wanted him to get his just desserts. )

The grandmas... They crack me up. Lolo.

But ooooomg, it's a spin-off of another series and I was supposed to read the other series first. Eek. Anyone who knows me knows I am totally OCD about reading things in order.

Damn you twin of mine for rec'ing me an awesome but out of order book! I should just be glad it didn't end with a huge cliff-wanker.

Although I thought Max Bowen's story would be the next book from this author, it appears she decided to write about Mike (who featured in Cole's story) and this is a new series about the OGs (Original Grandmas!). However, Max does feature.

When Kyra was 16, she began a relationship with her friend Mike. Mike was 20, he had been waiting for Kyra to grow up before dating her but still felt he was too old for her. However, they fell in love and dated for 5 years, living together for 3 of those. When Kyra was 21 she wanted to further her career as a dancer and go and live on a Cruise Ship for 10 months. Not wanting to lose her Mike proposed but Kyra turned him down.

Fast forward 7 years and a lot has happened. Kyra has been married and divorced and has an adorable six year old daughter called Sam. Due to financial difficulties she has had to move back to her hometown of Alden but that means seeing Mike again. They have managed to avoid each other for a month or so, that is until the OGs interfere and conspire to bring these two together. We then learn of all the upset and misunderstandings that went on between Mike and Kyra. Once this is resolved, they begin a sort of relationship (f buddies so to speak!) because Kyra is concerned about her daughter growing close to Mike when Kyra does not foresee staying in Alden.

The sex scenes are hot and steamy as usual from this author but also very descriptive! Be warned that if you don't like the thought of sex during a menstrual cycle then this happens between Kyra and Mike. I'm not a prude, but I did find myself cringing a bit and some of it was a bit TMi for my tastes! Anal sex is also a feature. This author knows her stuff and there is a lot of sex between this couple!

I loved Mike and Kyra. Mike is an alpha male. He is demanding in the bedroom but very caring towards Kyra and her daughter. However, due to the past, he feels vulnerable and doesn't want to lose control around Kyra. Their relationship becomes public and they grow closer. They go through some minor ups and downs but it's clear theirs is a true love story and I enjoyed reading it. I actually preferred this book to the two previous Bowen Brothers books.

The OGs are amusing (the text messages!) and I look forward to the next book and their next 'victim'!

SECOND CHANCE LOVE

First book in a new series by this author, which to be honest surprised me as I was waiting for Max's story from the Bowen brothers.
Mike and Kyra had been together when they had both been young. But Kyra had wanted to spread her wings and build a career as a dancer. Mike didn't want her to leave their small hometown so he proposed but Kyra was determined to go leaving Mike behind.

Now seven years later she's back in Alden divorced, broke and with a small daughter Sam. Initially Kyra and Mike avoid one another, but then the OG's the original grannies decide to step in and push them together. I thought that Mike and Kyra sorted out their past misunderstandings a bit too quickly. Mike had been a bit of a manwhore in the seven years that Kyra had been gone.

After initially being disappointed that Max's story was not next I quite enjoyed this. There's not much to the plot, other than the relationship between Mike and Kyra. There is some drama towards the end, but I would have liked to have seen at least some angst in this, perhaps adding in some of the women he'd been with could have added a bit of added drama. One woman he'd been with semi seriously was mentioned, but she never made an appearance. That seemed like a lost opportunity to me. That would have added a bit more bite to this story and fleshed it out more.

Mike and Kyra they were very sympathetically written and it was east to relate to them. Mike was a true alpha all growly, sexy and possessive especially in the bedroom. The sex scenes were hot and plentiful, and very explicit. There's not much that they don't get up to! I liked how the author portrayed Sam, Kyra's daughter not all authors can write a child's character well. But that's certainly not the case here. But the stars of the show for me were the grannies, they were a real hoot. The texting was really funny. So all in all not a bad read, three and a half stars for me.

*****5 stars!!! I just LOVED this book! I loved Mike and Kyra! They both acted stupid and made mistakes, but they both more than made up for them. I love those OGs too! So Hilarious! It's been so long since I read one of Elle Aycart's series, that I almost forgot how much I loved the humor and romance, not to mention the sex scenes are HOT!!!! Mike is so freaking awesome!! I cannot wait to see what's in store next! I know Max will be getting a book, but I am curious to see Rachel with one too because I really do like her!! :)

Oh my gosh - I loved this book!!  First of all, let me fan myself - but Oh Mike - a dirty talker and a sweet talker too - the best of both worlds.  Secondly, the grandmothers in this book were hilarious - you have to love all their antics and text messaging - adding humor and light heartedness to the story.  You'll be wishing at their age, you can have some good friends and fun like they have.

Mike and Kyra were high school sweethearts - each other's first love, but Kyra wanted more - and their relationship ended on a bad note.  More misunderstandings and hurtful words made it almost impossible for them to ever even speak to each other.  But when Kyra moves back into town with her daughter, Sam - it seems like these two are destined to be in each others space, and face the past.

With a little help from some meddling grandmothers, Mike and Kyra have no option but to talk it out - and a few other things!!  They may decide to give it a try, but Kyra still holds back, especially when it comes to her daughter, Sam, who she doesn't want to get too attached to Mike - because she still plans on leaving after she gets her life together again.  The problem is, Sam gets attached right away and Kyra falls right back into her old feelings towards Mike.

Mike invades her life in all the good ways again - taking care of things at her house, helping with her daughter, bringing her chocolate and rubbing her belly when it's her "time of the month" (for that alone he's a keeper!!), and protecting her from her ex-husband. He determined to show her, that her life and family is here with him.

I enjoyed this book so much, between the hot sex scenes, the sweet scenes where Mike is taking care of Kyra, the adorable moments with her daughter, and all the funny moments spent with the grandmothers and other family members it was definitely a book that had all of my favorite things in it!  I cannot wait until the next book comes out and see who's life the OGs meddle in.

I love Elle Aycart's books. It's an auto buy for me. Deep Down was no exception.

We met Mike in Heavy Issues, he's a friend of the Bowen boys and worked with Cole. In this book, his first (and only) love, Kyra comes back to town after a 7 year separation. His grandma and her friends meddle and are hilarious.

I loved Kyra, I was a bit apprehensive at first of her side of the story, but as the book unfolded, I understood everything. And she never annoyed me.

And Mike was awesome, as expected. He did a couple of screwed up things, but the author has a way of making it so you don't blame him for doing what he did.

And my favorite part of the story.... The heroine actually gets her period and has horrible cramps! I know its not the most romantic thing in the world, but finally! A woman who's period isn't just a day and cramp free! And I loved how the showed through this scene, just how good of a guy Mike really is.

I cannot wait for more from this series, more from this author, period. The OGs are frigging hysterical with their misadventures and autocorrect texting issues. Poor Rachel isn't going to know what hit her!
And we got to see a lot more of Max Bowen. I cannot wait to see what is in store for him!

Once again, Elle Aycart does not disappoint. I LOVED this book. For those of you that are fans of the Bowen boys this is a must read. Not only, do you get to know hot-as-hell Mike, but you also get to see James, Cole, and lots of yummy Max (which only made me want his book even more!!)
Things I loved about this book:
1. Mike, Mike, and Mike---He was sexy as hell, sweet (especially with the women in his life and ESPECIALLY Sam), and one of the dirtiest talkers EVER!!!----some of the scenes were definitely blush inducing and that's putting it lightly.
2. The grandmas of course! They really were the humor of the book, which definitely lightened up the sad undertones of the plot.
3. I really liked Kyra. She was strong and stood her ground with Mike. Yes, she made mistakes, but so did he and I like how she just didn't roll over and take all the blame.
4. Loved the last few chapters and the epilogue--I'm a big fan of getting a glimpse of the characters' lives a little down the road and Aycart provides just that...
5. As I've said before in my other reviews, I love when a book can make me laugh and cry and this book fits the bill.

Can't wait for the next in the OGs series!!

Short review! I loved this book. It dragged a bit all the way through, but only because I wanted to get to the good parts. I loved Mike to pieces and appreciated how he took half the blame and this wasn't a "she made a BIG mistake book" as so many of these second-chance stories are. And it had me loving Mike all the more AND allowed me to love Kyra, too. And speaking of ADORE, Sam was such a fun character. Sweet and tough and feisty, just like her mom.
