Book 1 - Snared: Bored with his job in the mail room of a huge corporate firm, Tyler Knoll is persuaded by some of his fellow employees to accompany them to their favorite hangout. Tyler goes along "Just for Fun" and immediately finds himself out of his depth. Follow his hilarious adventures as he describes what happens.
Tyler Knoll was born one wild, stormy night in April 2013. Of course he might tell you that he'd been born twenty years earlier, but should we believe anything he says?
Whatever the date of his conception, Tyler's writing reflects the books that have influenced his life.
First off, like most gay men, he was snared by gay porn, wallowing in tales of bigger, stronger, harder. But then his fickle mind was drawn to tales of bondage and beatings.
When a Big Misunderstanding nearly costs him his sanity or even his life, he turned to another genre for his salvation. But even that encounter proved hazardous to his existence, not from the cold, but from irate fans.
Finally, he discovered like many storybook heroes before him, that sometimes our Mr Right is closer than we think.
I figured the author wrote this for fun, its in your face, sarcastic, mocking and the narrator should have annoyed the hell out of me. I can guarantee other readers will give up well before the finish. I had to laugh at the mouthy commentary, an enticing and interesting set-up. Tyler you were wrong I stuck it out for you (responding to a comment in the book) cute lol. I liked it and I hope the teasing takes me along to another story.
Macky's brilliant review sums it up better than I ever could.
This is one of those books that you're either going to get or not! I love snarky humour, it just makes me laugh and boy is Tyler snarky. Be prepared reader to be insulted , but don't take offence, take it In the spirit of the story. The narrative is sharp and witty and full of asides to the reader and editor, and its very well written. No grammatical errors that I can pick out - those asides to the editor obviously working. Lol! - The story itself is not your typical m/m romance, far from it but its sexy and funny and does end with the possibility of more than just a hook up. I found it refreshingly good in its slightly spoofy attitude to the general m/m romance, the only reason I originally dropped it slightly below 4 stars ( my first rating was 3.75* but see bottom of review) was because it is quite unrelenting in its sarcasm sometimes a tad in your face but overall I think Tyler Knoll is going to be quite a talent in the genre and I truly hope more people give his book a chance. Rounded up to 4 because the writing is crisp and well voiced. I got it free on Smashwords with a voucher code but its on at an unbelievably low price anyway so I'm going back and I'm purchasing it again because writers like Tyler need support and encouragement to keep going. It would be a crying shame if low interest and sales put off a writing talent like this.
Damn... Just realised having downloaded it for freeI can't repurchase so now I wish I hadn't used the voucher. Next one I will happily pay for Tyler... Keep them coming!
Sod it.... On reflection and a good discussion with my fellow fan Vio.... We've decided this sarcastic, bundle of snarky fun deserves the full 4 stars! Next please Mr knoll !! :D
Not my normal kind of read, I really don’t read for the sex/smut. But that said I found myself intrigued and amused throughout most of this quick read.
If this was extended or continued I’m not sure I would keep reading.
I think what worked best for me was the fact it was so short. Tyler kept me chuckling without me getting bored and fed up with his quirks. He was both amusing and snarky. Traits I enjoy reading as long as they are not over done.
Hmmm...I was both irritated and entertained reading this but it was, admittedly, probably not the best story to read at the end of a long, shitty day. Plus it probably would have gone down better with a glass of vino but I've got none and forgot to buy more ...just to add to the general shittiness of the day... I do love that this was a poke with a rather pointy stick at both MM romance readers and writers but I couldn't help but wish that the snarky but insecure bottom (but mostly just snarky) was a little less of a caricature - as soon as he went meta it took me right out it and it happened too often for me to become really invested in the story. But that's always been a real bugbear with me. I stopped watching Supernatural when all those fan wank episodes started cropping up. So yes, some of my favourite tropes are teasingly waved around for effect but I wanted more, dammit! Laugh at us all you want but we love that shit! By the way, the bit at the end - ;)
I laughed outload several times and probably would have given it a four if it weren't for the end. I didn't like Gareth and the way the story ended left me feeling a little disappointed.
I loved all three of these stories, although number one has to be my favourite.
Having said that, don't pick them up if you are looking for a romance or emotions. They are, as the title says, just for fun.
I really enjoyed the rambling, first person narrative which showed the character of Tyler so well. The story is told like a person would tell it if they were standing in front of you, face to face.
A sexy little story that cannot be taken seriously. Have fun!
