Hadie Swinton isn’t the good girl she used to be. After losing the love of her life, she casts aside her squeaky clean image and spends her nights drinking and staying out late.
Eddie Cavallari is sick of being the nice guy who always finishes last. He’s been by Hadie’s side through her grief, but is close to giving up on her after she starts pushing him away.
Once friends, the pair are now strangers in each other’s lives. Hidden beneath her makeup and tight clothes, Hadie is trying to lose herself, but when a shock revelation hurtles through her already fragile life, Eddie is the only one willing to stand by her and lead her back into the light.
Despite the obstacles in their way, Eddie is determined to prove to Hadie that even when love dies, it never really leaves us.

First Chances--the book that took years. It was the hardest book for me to write and I put it off for such a long time that I wasn't even sure if anyone would read it. But I had to write it for the fans who wanted a happily-ever-after for Hadie, and for myself, too.
There is so much of me in this book. I think writing it was therapy for me, and I am so glad I finally pulled through and got it done. With the last three years of my life falling apart around me, yet at the same time having to move on, this book healed me in a way I didn't think possible.
Readers, fans of the series, longtime supporters, thank you for sticking it out with me and letting me uncover this book at my own pace. Remember to feel pain, to hurt, to cry. Remember to fall in love, to breathe, to live again, to touch the sky.
To all the broken hearts out there, this one is for you.
As much I adored link in falling for hadie (all time book boyfriend, woooop!) pleaseeeeeeeeeeeeeee let eddies girl be hadie! I'm guessing it will from links "note" to Eddie in falling for hadie, and from eddies song, it will make my life complete. Hadie deserves another chance at love :)

Got your tissues ready? Komal has dedicated this book to those of us that wanted Hadie to have her happy ending because "sometimes your first love isn't your last." You need to read Falling for Hadie first to have any understanding of what this book is about, so please do not read this review if you haven't. First Chances picks up after the devastating ending of Falling for Hadie. All the old friends from previous books are back in this story. Hadie is a mess after Lincoln's death and she loses herself in drink and meets up with one of the lads from the Madden gang his name is 'Three' and Hadie thinks he's just what she needs to take her mind off the consuming grief she is going through. Now your wondering where Eddie comes into this well he's still there watching over Hadie not only because Lincoln asked him to but because he has loved Hadie for a long time. The first three quarters of the book is about Hadies struggle and Eddie slowly trying to get through to her but then WHAM a huge twist hits and the story takes you to a beautiful epilogue. I thought Komal dealt with Hadies grief and moving on with her life well and I know this is a very young adult book but it was a beautiful love story and it was so worth the four stars I gave it.
What can I say about this book. You have no idea how much this story means to me. I was so invested in Hadie and Lincoln in the first book. No lie I cried for days wrote this author and DEMANDED SHE WRITE MORE. If you haven't read this series your truly missing out. But she did a phenomenal job with letting me see Eddie and Hadie. The things this young woman felt this series is real life. It makes you think about struggles we as adults have but teens have it hard to so much pettiness. I understand my daughter deals with horrible people on a daily bases. My son also did in high school. But then you grow up and find that stuff was stupid the Kance girls of the world change or never turn out to be anything.Really its being jealous they want your life. But watching Hadie heal from such a devastating thing was beautiful. I always loved Eddie and he's simply a hero and Lincoln new this. To have two loves the way she did Hadie was a blessed girl. To walk away with the gift she had was breathtaking. This is my first review for the year and yay its not an Arc but I will post on blog. http://ndbbr2014.com Night and Day Book Blog ~Stephanie Powell
Two years ago a book called Falling for Hadie broke my heart. Over the last two years it's a story I often think back to, I wondered if Hadie would ever get her HEA. I stalked Komal's FB profile throughout those two years hoping and praying that Hadie story had been published. So you get I was really looking forward to this book. I was a little worried that this book wouldn't live up to its predecessor or my expectations but it surpassed both. I cried ( a lot ) but this book mended my broke heart and does Hadie get her HEA .......... Well you will just have to read it !!!! Well worth the wait !
This is definitely not a dnf because I didn't like it. However stupid this is going to sound, god, it will sound ridiculous but I just started reading this and it hurt.
It hurt so much, I'm not ready to read this book yet, but I am absolutely planning on reading it some day.
Would have loved it if it was set in college. I didn't read the previous books, it was easy to understand what happened. However, it seems too much for teenagers even in their last year of High-school...
Alright. This was good. Really good. But I'm not sure how to review it. Because on one hand, I LOVE HADIE. But on the other hand... LINCOLN IS THE ONLY MAN FOR HER EVER. Okay. Not really. Second chances (even though the book is called first chances) and all that. But still... Every time I think about Lincoln I start crying so seeing Hadie work things out with Eddie was a little rough. Plus, she changed. A LOT. Which is kind of awesome and makes me happy that she really did love Lincoln and she went through a lot and this is not some sort of lame sugar coating book where everything is perfect... But still. I kinda miss the sweet old Hadie. Oh well. Eddie just makes up for everything. God is he amazing. Almost, ALMOST, equal to Lincoln (but never actually equal). The only thing... I'm not sure that Hadie really deserved Eddie by the end.... Well, here we go!
SUMMARY: Lincoln died and left Hadie alone and heartbroken. Her friends try to comfort her, but they don't understand the pain she feels. They don't understand how broken she feels inside. She wants the world to know that she can never be the same again. And (okay, I forget his name, let's call his Q) Q, the boy from the wrong side of town, seems to get it. Hadie isn't playing games. She just wants to forget, even if it's just for a little while. Eddie, meanwhile, is forced to watch as Hadie self destructs. It was painful enough to watch her with Lincoln. Now he watches as she pushes away her friends, insults him, ignores her parents, and desperately hurts herself. It's not that Eddie minds the purple hair or the new pants (au contraire). He hates that he sees that bottomless pit of sadness in her eyes. Anger and disbelief. Eddie tries to get her to confront her feelings, to talk to him, but she just pushes him away. Is he destined to always be friend zoned. How long can he take her rage? Will Hadie self destruct herself? Will that emptiness in her heart ever really go away?
the best parts: I'm going to jump into the best parts, because I feel like I haven't done a good enough job talking about how good this book actually was. Hadie was very genuine. Really emotionally poignant and just... I could feel the hurt (tears up as thinks about Lincoln). Eddie was also AMAZING. Super sweet and sensitive, and I loved the shared POV. Eddie really came into his own as a three dimensional character, which was really what this book was about. Hadie sort of sees Eddie as this prop for her grief, and he has to take a stand for himself. I'm actually really proud of Eddie. Super sweet kid, very vivid back ground story, much more passionate than portrayed before. And Hadie's journey to sort of reclaiming herself was really lovely. The grammar and punctuation was also well done.
the not so best parts: Alright. Here we go. With Linc, I understood the rushed timeline. This book? Not so much. Hadie felt some INTENSE emotions. And Eddie felt some intense emotions. And this all went down in... three months tops? And one month wasn't even in the book? Too fast. Time heals all wounds, etc. The timeline just didn't really make sense to me. Another thing. I liked Eddie a lot, but I started disliking Hadie. She ended up becoming kind of selfish. Which is understandable, to a point. I wanted the back and forth nice not nice business to stop sooner than it did: some fighting is genuine and passionate. Too much is petty and selfish. I also wanted to see Eddie and Hadie together more. They were actually with each other.... Barely at all. This was really an opportunity for some great healing scenes as they learned to lean on each other. Eddie has some healing to do too, people! Another thing. Estelle? Previously I liked her (I didn't read her book, but I liked her in Linc's), but in this book she was just hypocritical and haughty. And Q... I like him. I did. I didn't understand why A) everyone portrayed him as a bad egg and B) why everyone said Hadie was so mean when he was hitting on a girl who made it clear that she was devastated by the loss of her boyfriend and not interested in more than escaping. The epilogue kind of fell sort for me too. And something happened and it was a very cheap cop out which I did not like and Eddie's involvement was WAY too fast (the old judgmental lady in me says) and I was half happy and half dying... Once more timing did not make sense! And Eddie was supposed to be super understanding and sweet but sometimes... he was mean. Which was understandable. Hadie was pretty mean. But I wish there had been a little more compassion vs hard love/hate.
All in all. Read it. You know you want more tiny mentions of Linc :) Eddie will become your new love. Hadie... you like her again in the end but in the beginning she's really annoying. Some major plot holes, but powerful writing. Very sweet story of emotional growth. I'm defiantly nit-picky, but that's just because I'm so invested in these characters! Not as good as Linc's book, but definitely not bad.
*********MAJOR SPOILERS***********
Almost 80% through the book (or something) we find out Hadie is pregnant with Linc's baby. That sort of makes sense... Except she's had this whole thing with Eddie in the span of about two months but it feels like a whole year of deep emotions and recovery. And she's been drinking and everything and hasn't noticed, nor has anyone around her. Not only that, but she and Eddie are already at the "deeply in love" portion, and it's barely been any time at all. And then he takes over as father (which I really love and understand), but it's all very rushed. And it feels like Linc is.. not disrespected... but sort of glanced over? Like Eddie is this great savior/love, but it's only been a few weeks and they've spent VERY little time together as an actual couple. I wish Hadie had found out before the whole Eddie- Q situation (which isn't a thing everyone just thinks it is) because that would have made more sense timing wise and all of the character's emotional maturing would have been more fitting/made sense. Then things really would have been open and honest (there was A LOT of lying). That being said, the scenes with Eddie and the baby and Hadie were really sweet and there maaaay have been some sniffling. And Linc lives on! yay! (though out of loyalty to him, I have to say he felt a little skipped over in all of this).

Alternately painful and hopeful, this roller coaster ride followup to Falling For Hadie has a lot packed into the story. Broken hearts, compassionate adults (Hadie's parents are the kind every teen wishes they had), grief, bad choices, mean girls, a guy whose the best possible person and a big surprise near the end. Very satisfying read.
I have to say, I was VERY worried about Hadie's story cause I knew nobody could EVER replace Lincoln. But i trusted Eddie. This book is... okay i guess. I expected a little more but I'm happy for Hadie and how everything turned out. I did cry A LOT in this book too, so be prepared
This book deserves a higher rating that 5. I was on an emotional roller coaster reading this and it’s prequel, Falling For Hadie. Wow, I don’t even know what to say other than READ these two books!
It took me a long time to read this book, not because of the book itself, but because Falling For Hadie, the first book, had completely destroyed me. It was one of greatest books I had ever read, and whenever people asked me what they should read, I recommended that book. I was afraid of this book, so it was on my TBR list for a long time. And then I read this book...in one sitting. I devoured it as quickly as I had the first book. First Chances had me screaming at Hadie and at Eddie. I wanted to just be there with them and help them get to where they needed to be. I felt as if I was their friends, like I could be a character in this book. And omg, all the other characters from the other books in the series, I could not pick a favorite. I don't want to give spoilers, so I will end my review with this... Read this book. It will change you. At least it did me, and I will never be the same.
Ohhhh the feelssss with this book.... I'm like in shock... i looved it. It gave me hopee for H&E... and that note from Lincoln in the first book was my undoing but knowing how Eddie actually felt was amazing. I loooove him.
I did not like what Hadie did with Three but I understand..'' un clavo saca a otro clavo'' not really. He was a little ass*** for beating Eddie but he was falling in love..he was searching for hope... ): and what did he recieve??? Nothing /:
Anywhoo... i am happy with the ''happy ending'' that Eddie and Hadie FINALLY have.
Untz untzzzzz... i might be asking for much but... can I have another book? With any of the characters jajajaja<3
OKAY EN ESPAÑOL ME PUEDO SOLTAR MAAAS..LLORE TANTO QUE NO ES CHISTE. Lo leí en un día...no podía pararrrr. ESTUVO BUENISIMOOO.bye <3

I have a vested interest in the book because I've read the rest of the series. While the book can be read as a stand alone, it will make much more sense if you read the other books first, particularly Falling for Hadie. While none of Kant's books are staggering works of literary genius (there are always small issues with grammar and continuity), the story is compelling and fun. If you're a fan of the books, chances are you're a huge fan of Eddie Cavallari, the unsung "nice guy" hero of this particular high school. It's nice to see him get his happy ending, even if Hadie doesn't come off as well in this one as she did in the last few books (yes I realize this is the point, it doesn't make me want to throw things at her less in this book though.) Overall, an interesting and easy read. I wouldn't recommend it if teen sex bothers you though.
This one is just as good as the second book in this series.
In book two, Hadie falls in love with a boy with a huge secret. Hadie is so easily likable that you want to see her happy. But in this book, it comes at a cost.
I really liked this book because it touched my heart more. It ended with a bittersweet end. For those who wasn't happy that Hadie didn't get her perfect happily ever after. This book is the follow up to it which does give her a great happily ever after with a good little surprise to it too. I was so happy and pleased to see how this turned out. The surprise was a welcome bonus!
Read the second book before you read this one. First and third book in this series are optional. Although they're still good but they are not directly connected to Hadie's story.
Espere tanto por este libro, que cuando lo tuve me lo devore, pero quede con gusto a poco. Tengo sentimientos encontrados con este libro, por lo que seguiré leyendo la saga para saber de los personajes, a los cuales les tengo cariño.
