Romans: Volume 2

Rate this book
For over one hundred years, the International Critical Commentary series has held a special place among works on the Bible. It has sought to bring together all the relevant aids to exegesis - linguistic and textual no less than archaeological, historical, literary and theological-with a level of comprehension and quality of scholarship unmatched by any other series.

No attempt has been made to secure a uniform theological or critical approach to the biblical contributors have been invited for their scholarly distinction, not for their adherence to any one school of thought. The first paperback editions to be published cover the heart of the New Testament, providing a wealth of information and research in accessible and attractive format.

For about two years I have been preaching through Romans and Cranfield's commentary has been one of the two commentaries I consult most consistently. He deals with the Greek text but also comments upon the meaning of the passage. He is thorough but brief (which I appreciate). I did not agree with everything or read every word, but I'm grateful to have had the work of this master scholar available to me as I attempted to understand and explain the vast and glorious terrain of this wonderful epistle.

This book and its companion book Romans 1-8 are seriously in-depth exegetical studies of the Letter to the Romans. Having good Hebrew, Greek and Latin is very helpful OR like me a lot of patience and then more patience. Right from the start of the first book through the end of the second a very rewarding study. Great Bible scholarship.
