Da bambina Leila abitava a Haifa, in una piccola casa che i suoi possedevano vicino al quartiere ebraico di Hadar Hacarmel. I vicini si chiamavano Abramovitch, Aronstein o Eisenberg. Una delle sue migliori compagne di giochi si chiamava Tamara. Poi arrivò quel maledetto 29 novembre 1947, il giorno in cui alcuni stranieri riuniti in una casa di vetro e d’acciaio in qualche parte nel mondo decisero di concedere il cinquantasei per cento della terra palestinese ai parenti di Tamara.
Leila dovette lasciare la sua terra, e rifugiarsi con la sua famiglia e settemila suoi compatrioti nel campo profughi di Borj el-Shemali, in Libano. Un posto paradisiaco, con la spiaggia più bella del Paese dei Cedri e il mare cangiante di mille colori meravigliosi. Un posto perfetto per qualsiasi bambina, ma non per Leila. At age 19, after studying at a Catholic Jesuit school in Cairo, Sinoué went to France to study at the national music conservatory in Paris. He became skilled in classical guitar. He later taught classical guitar to others and started writing.
In 1987, at about age 40, he published his first novel, La Pourpre et l’olivier ou Calixte 1er le pape oublié (The Crimson and the Olive Tree or Calixte I the Forgotten Pope). It earned the Jean d’Heurs prize for best historical novel. In 1989, he published Avicenne ou La route d'Ispahan, relating the life of Avicenna (Abu Ali Ibn Sina in Arabic), the Persian doctor, philosopher and scientist.
His novels and other books span a variety of genres. Sinoué's third novel The Egyptian is the first of a saga set in Egypt of the 18th and 19th centuries. Published in 1991, this novel won the literary prize Quartier latin. In the biography L'ambassadrice (2002), Sinoué relates the life of Emma, Lady Hamilton.
In 2004 his thriller Les Silences de Dieu (The Silences of God) won le Grand prix de littérature policière (Grand Prize for Mystery/Detective Literature).
Gilbert Sinoué quickly established himself as an engaging storyteller and master of a variety of genres. His biography, The last phar'aoh, depicts the battle of Mehmet Ali, the pacha, with the Ottoman empire. In the thriller Le Livre de Saphir (The Sapphire Book), the narrator converses with God.

"Le Cri Des Pierres", (Inch’ Allah #2) or in English "The Scream Of Stone" is the second book in the "Inch' Allah" Trilogy by Gilbert Sinoué, describing the flaming situation in Middle East from 1956 to the devastating 2001 and the memorable September 11th.
"The Scream Of Stone" is an actual Scream of the people looking for a country, looking for their roots, looking for justice, looking for revenge. As usual, the great forces of the time, had divided the area according to their needs. Governments never cared for the poor citizens, why would they now. But those citizens have now become powerful with the means those external forces gave them. Their belief and their will to become free, as they define freedom themselves not as others do.
Sinoué is a mastermind of historical fiction. He is great in describing a very flowable historical timeframe through the lives of five families, following them from the first book to this one. Heroes of “The Breath of Jasmine” have bread new heroes to thrive for their cause. Either this is the Israeli one or the Palestinian one. Great personalities that most of us have come to know through the 80s and the 90s, pop up from the book's pages and drive us back to memories of the Palestinian cause negotiations.
It doesn't tire us though. The description of the historical moments is so vivid and short in length, that is here only to serve the books needs. At least this is the impression we take. Yet again, the reader can see the passion of the two sides, the faults that both have done, the birth of Fatah, Hezbollah, and the very known to all Al-Qaeda. It is more than a reading, it's history through a nice book. All the facts that are described are justified through sources provided at the end of the book.
The series is a must read for all! As a reminder of what has happened and what can be. People don't just rouse because of religion and fanatic beliefs. There is a bigger cause behind that and the roots may go really back in time, before we were even born. People are not just crazy fanatics. Yes, there are some lunatics, but they are not all as such...

Le Cri des Pierres est un roman historique exemplaire qui raconte de façon tout à fait fascinante et excitante des histoires entremêlées aux dimensions excessivement complexes qui nous sont très méconnues en occident. Au travers de ce récit, l'histoire du Moyen-Orient à partir de la seconde moitié du vingtième siècle se dessine avec les hommes politiques incontournables de l'époque au premier plan : Gamal Nasser, Saddham Hussein, Camille Chamoun, Yitzhak Rabin et bien d'autres. Malgré la complexité des événements et des forces politiques en jeu, Sinoué est capable de nous présenter les divers points de vue sans qu'on s'y perde et surtout sans qu'on sente un parti pris de l'auteur. La principale faiblesse sans laquelle j'aurais attribué 5 étoiles est la place qu'occupe les personnages. Exceptée pour environ la moitié des personnages auxquels je me suis grandement attaché au cours du récit, on sent que les événements décrits dépassent de loin l'échelle humaine et que certains personnages ne sont que des caméras à travers lesquels l'action se produit. Par ailleurs, si la romance entre Hicham et Chahida est globalement assez réussie (malgré certaines scènes gênantes), celle entre Joumana et Avram est désespérément nanardesque.
En bref, j'espère pouvoir retrouver une pépite de ce niveau la prochaine fois que j'entame un roman historique.

Orta Doğu'daki ülkelerde (Irak, İran, Lübnan, Mısır, İsrail ve Filistin) 1956-1995 yılları arasında yaşanan politik olayları kimi zaman gerçek kimi zaman hayali karakterler üzerinden anlatmış yazar. Benim bu konular hakkında çok bir bilgim olmadığı için okurken biraz zorlandım ama meraklısı için çok güzel bir kitap diye düşünüyorum.

في هذا الجزء تبدأ الأحداث من بعد تأميم قناة السويس التي أثارت ضجة كبرى، ونرى أبرز الأحداث في مصر والعراق وفلسطين وسوريا ولبنان ، والنكسة وأثرها على عبد الناصر وظهور حركة تحرير الجبهة الفلسطينية وفتح الله..
أعتقد أنه من غير المهم ذكر ذلك ولكن الكاتب يبدو أنه من أنصار عبد الناصر فقد أظهره في صورة وديعة للغاية.
وركز على أن بعض الفلسطنيين وبعض اليهود تمنوا السلام ولكن يبدو أنه لم يقدر لهم وكان هذا في متمثل في شخصية جومانة وأفرام، ولا أدري ما حب ربط الكاتب بين شخصيتين مرتبطين بعداء مثل دينا و لوفون وأفرام اليهودي الذي أحب جومانة الفلسطينية !!
بصراحة هنا أيضا شعرت بأن الرواية لم تكتب للعرب ولا أدري لم تم ترجمتها، وهي منحازة كثيرا ..
ولا أخطط لقراءة الجزء الثالث لو تم ترجمته.

جليبرت سينويه، كاتب فرنسي نشأ في مصر ،في هذه الثلاثية الرائعه يمتزج التاريخ ووقائع الروايه معا كما يفعل محمد المنسي قنديل في قصصه بيد أن أسلوب الكتابه شعرته قريبا من كاتبنا العبقري نجيب محفوظ، يأخذك الكاتب في رحلة زمنيه بمصر وعاداتها وتفاصيل الحياه فيها إلي حقبه ما بعد هزيمه 48 والعدوان الثلاثي وقيام حزب البعث السوري وكثير من أحداث فتره الخمسينات وحتي التسعينات. أحببت الرواية وزخم أحداثها بشده ،لن تكون تجربتي الاخيره في عوالم سينويه

Après « Le souffle du jasmin », le second tome de la trilogie Inch’Allah continue cette plongée folle dans l’Histoire du Proche et du Moyen-Orient des années 1970 jusqu’aux attentats du 11 septembre 2001.
Si vous avez adoré le premier tome, vous ne pourrez que vouloir lire ce second volet sans regret.

Ένα ιστορικό μυθιστόρημα για αναγνώστες με απαιτήσεις. Η κραυγή της πέτρας είναι το 2ο βιβλίο (μετά την Πνοή του γιασεμιού) που αφηγείται την επικίνδυνη κατάσταση στη Μέση Ανατολή, μόνο που τώρα τα γεγονότα χτυπάνε την πόρτα στη μνήμη των νεότερων αναγνωστών. Διαβάζουμε για την έκρηξη του καζανιού που κόχλαζε κι από το 1956 φτάνουμε στο συγκλονιστικό 2001.
Συρία, Αίγυπτος, Λίβανος, Παλαιστίνη, Ιράκ, Ιορδανία: ποια η μοίρα τους και η τύχη τους μετά τη διάλυση της Οθωμανικής Αυτοκρατορίας, πώς τις αντιμετωπίζουν αυτοί που έχουν την Ιστορία στα χέρια τους και πόσο επηρρεάζει το βαθμό έντασης στο καζάνι που βράζει η παρουσία των Εβραίων στην Παλαιστίνη, που στέλνονται καραβιές με εντολή των Άγγλων; Με αφορμή αυτήν την ιστορία ξεδιπλώνονται οι ιστορίες πέντε οικογενειών, που μπλέκονται μεταξύ τους, και διαβάζουμε την Ιστορία μέσα από τις τύχες, τις πληγές και τις χαρές αυτών των ανθρώπων. Δεν είναι κουραστικό, έτσι όπως είναι γραμμένο είναι σαν να φωτίζονται σκηνές και κομμάτια της Ιστορίας που δεν κρατάνε πάνω από 4-5 σελίδες, οπότε ο αναγνώστης δεν μπλέκεται και δεν κουράζεται. Δεν έχουμε ατέλειωτη και συνεχή ροή γεγονότων, ονομάτων, ιστορικών πράξεων αλλά σύντομες, βαθιές ανάσες πάνω στην αιματηρή πορεία της Μέσης Ανατολής στο χρόνο. Σχεδόν αποσπασματικά παρακολουθούμε και τις εξελίξεις στις ζωές των οικογενειών, με αποτέλεσμα να έχουμε ένα πολύχρωμο ψηφιδωτό που αντανακλά πραγματικές πτυχές και γεγονότα στο διάβα του χρόνου.
Εδώ δε θα αναλύσω τα γεγονότα του βιβλίου όπως έκανα στην παρουσίαση της Πνοής του γιασεμιού. Η κραυγή της πέτρας είναι η κραυγή για ελευθερία, η κραυγή εναντίον κάθε μορφής αδικίας, η κραυγή εναντίον των απίστων. Πλέον η κατάσταση έχει ξεφύγει από κάθε έλεγχο και ο θρησκευτικός πόλεμος συνεχίζεται αμείλικτος και ανελέητος. Τζιχάντ, Ιντιφάντα, Σαντάμ Χουσείν, Νάσερ, Σαντάτ, Ακίλε Λάουρο, Ηνωμένη Αραβική Δημοκρατία, Λωρίδα της Γάζας, αεροπειρατείες, Γιάσερ Αραφάτ, όλα παρουσιάζονται στις σελίδες αυτού του καταπληκτικού συγγραφέα. Έμαθα πώς ξεκίνησε ο θρησκευτικός φανατισμός, για τι αγωνίζονται (έστω και με άσχημο τρόπο) οι άνθρωποι-καμικάζι που δε διστάζουν να πάρουν μαζί τους αθώους ανθρώπους στον άλλο κόσμο, έμαθα πολλά και ντρέπομαι που είμαι άνθρωπος.
Μέσα σε όλα αυτά τα γεγονότα υπάρχουν άνθρωποι, άνθρωποι που πονάνε, άνθρωποι που ματώνουν, άνθρωποι που σχεδιάζουν χάρτες χωρίς να τους νοιάζει το κόστος και το μέλλον. Ο συγγραφέας έχει διαλέξει με πολύ μεγάλη προσοχή τι χαρακτήρες θα φέρει στο φως, τι καταστάσεις θα ζήσουν, σε τι συνθήκες θα αλλάξουν τη νοοτοροπία και το χαρακτήρα τους. Τα ιστορικά πρόσωπα επηρεάζουν τις πράξεις τους, τις σκέψεις τους, το μέλλον τους. Και ιδού ανάγλυφη η τοιχογραφία της Μέσης Ανατολής στα μάτια του αναγνώστη. Ο αναγνώστης έχει ευκαιρίες να ξεκουραστεί, να σκεφτεί, να διαβάσει κάτι άλλο, το κείμενο ποτέ δεν καταντά κουραστικό ή ένα άψυχο μάθημα ιστορίας. Αυτό είναι πραγματικά τέχνη!
Στο τέλος του βιβλίου, όπως και στο προηγούμενο, υπάρχει συμπληρωματική βιβλιογραφία για όσους θέλουν να εντρυφήσουν περισσότερο.
Χαρακτηριστικά αποσπάσματα:
"-Ο όχλος είναι μια μάζα ανθρώπων που συγκεντρώνονται ανάλογα με τις περιστάσεις. Ο λαός είναι μια συνεχή οντότητα που διαμορφώνεται από την Ιστορία. Αντίθετα από τον όχλο, ο λαός ξέρει τι θέλει. Μόνο που δεν ξέρει πώς να το καταφέρει. Γι' αυτό χρειάζεται τους αρχηγούς. Αφοσιώνεται τυφλά σ' αυτούς, εφόσον κι αυτοί αφοσιώνονται σ' εκείνον. Αλλά όταν αυτοί, αντί για οδηγοί, συμπεριφέρονται σαν αφέντες, όταν προδίδουν τις προσδοκίες του εξαιτίας της πλεονεξίας τους ή από προσωπική φιλοδοξία, τότε τους ανατρέπει. Καίει αυτούς που έκανε το λάθος να λατρέψει. Ένας λαός δεν αφοσιώνεται σε αρχηγούς για ν' αποκτήσουν αυτοί πολούτη ή για να δοξαστούν -πόσο μάλλον για να τον οδηγήσουν στην καταστροφή. Αφοσιώνεται σε αυτούς για να τους υποχρεώσει να πετύχουν καλύτερες συνθήκες ζωής. Τέτοιυς αρχηγούς, πιστέψτε με, δε θα τους εγκαταλείψει ποτέ" (σελ. 144-145).

Σχεδόν αποσπασματικά παρακολουθούμε και τις εξελίξεις στις ζωές των οικογενειών, με αποτέλεσμα να έχουμε ένα πολύχρωμο ψηφιδωτό που αντανακλά πραγματικές πτυχές και γεγονότα στο διάβα του χρόνου.
Εδώ δε θα αναλύσω τα γεγονότα του βιβλίου όπως έκανα στην παρουσίαση της Πνοής του γιασεμιού. Η κραυγή της πέτρας είναι η κραυγή για ελευθερία, η κραυγή εναντίον κάθε μορφής αδικίας, η κραυγή εναντίον των απίστων. Πλέον η κατάσταση έχει ξεφύγει από κάθε έλεγχο και ο θρησκευτικός πόλεμος συνεχίζεται αμείλικτος και ανελέητος. Τζιχάντ, Ιντιφάντα, Σαντάμ Χουσείν, Νάσερ, Σαντάτ, Ακίλε Λάουρο, Ηνωμένη Αραβική Δημοκρατία, Λωρίδα της Γάζας, αεροπειρατείες, Γιάσερ Αραφάτ, όλα παρουσιάζονται στις σελίδες αυτού του καταπληκτικού συγγραφέα. Έμαθα πώς ξεκίνησε ο θρησκευτικός φανατισμός, για τι αγωνίζονται (έστω και με άσχημο τρόπο) οι άνθρωποι-καμικάζι που δε διστάζουν να πάρουν μαζί τους αθώους ανθρώπους στον άλλο κόσμο, έμαθα πολλά και ντρέπομαι που είμαι άνθρωπος.
Μέσα σε όλα αυτά τα γεγονότα υπάρχουν άνθρωποι, άνθρωποι που πονάνε, άνθρωποι που ματώνουν, άνθρωποι που σχεδιάζουν χάρτες χωρίς να τους νοιάζει το κόστος και το μέλλον. Ο συγγραφέας έχει διαλέξει με πολύ μεγάλη προσοχή τι χαρακτήρες θα φέρει στο φως, τι καταστάσεις θα ζήσουν, σε τι συνθήκες θα αλλάξουν τη νοοτοροπία και το χαρακτήρα τους. Τα ιστορικά πρόσωπα επηρεάζουν τις πράξεις τους, τις σκέψεις τους, το μέλλον τους. Και ιδού ανάγλυφη η τοιχογραφία της Μέσης Ανατολής στα μάτια του αναγνώστη. Ο αναγνώστης έχει ευκαιρίες να ξεκουραστεί, να σκεφτεί, να διαβάσει κάτι άλλο, το κείμενο ποτέ δεν καταντά κουραστικό ή ένα άψυχο μάθημα ιστορίας. Αυτό είναι πραγματικά τέχνη!
Στο τέλος του βιβλίου, όπως και στο προηγούμενο, υπάρχει συμπληρωματική βιβλιογραφία για όσους θέλουν να εντρυφήσουν περισσότερο.
Χαρακτηριστικά αποσπάσματα:
"-Ο όχλος είναι μια μάζα ανθρώπων που συγκεντρώνονται ανάλογα με τις περιστάσεις. Ο λαός είναι μια συνεχή οντότητα που διαμορφώνεται από την Ιστορία. Αντίθετα από τον όχλο, ο λαός ξέρει τι θέλει. Μόνο που δεν ξέρει πώς να το καταφέρει. Γι' αυτό χρειάζεται τους αρχηγούς. Αφοσιώνεται τυφλά σ' αυτούς, εφόσον κι αυτοί αφοσιώνονται σ' εκείνον. Αλλά όταν αυτοί, αντί για οδηγοί, συμπεριφέρονται σαν αφέντες, όταν προδίδουν τις προσδοκίες του εξαιτίας της πλεονεξίας τους ή από προσωπική φιλοδοξία, τότε τους ανατρέπει. Καίει αυτούς που έκανε το λάθος να λατρέψει. Ένας λαός δεν αφοσιώνεται σε αρχηγούς για ν' αποκτήσουν αυτοί πολούτη ή για να δοξαστούν -πόσο μάλλον για να τον οδηγήσουν στην καταστροφή. Αφοσιώνεται σε αυτούς για να τους υποχρεώσει να πετύχουν καλύτερες συνθήκες ζωής. Τέτοιυς αρχηγούς, πιστέψτε με, δε θα τους εγκαταλείψει ποτέ" (σελ. 144-145).

Suite du « Souffle du Jasmin », « Le Cri des pierres » débute en 1956, période d'embrasement dans tout le Moyen Orient. La vie des 4 familles, égyptienne, palestinienne, irakienne et juive, se poursuit au rythme des combats. Ce deuxième volume est cependant moins approfondi que le premier, et, « petit » bémol : tandis que sur la totalité des 2 ouvrages, la période allant de 1916 à 1975 est décrite sur environ 800 pages, les années 1975 à 2001 sont survolées en à peine 75 pages.

Bel romanzo che si interseca con la complicata realtà politica e sociale del Medioriente, di cui ne racconta le vicissitudini degli ultimi 60 anni.
Comunque, malgrado la difficoltà del periodo storico e politico di questa area, la lettura scorre piacevolmente.
Unico consiglio: prima di leggere questo romanzo, leggere "La terra dei Gelsomini" che rappresenta gli antefatti di Grida di Pietra

Superbe livre décrivant les faits politiques arabes. C'est triste, émouvant. Finalement le monde ne change jamais.
Les faits sont relatés de façon romancée mais aussi rigoureuse. C'est un précieux travail de recherche que l'auteur fournit. C'est mieux écrit. Une merveille! Nécessaire à nous occidentaux qui ne sont pas enseignés à l'histoire en Orient.
