Finding Flight by Heather M. Sharpe is a fascinating read! I couldn't put this book down.
The story is masterfully written to include romance, adventure, shape shifting, paranormal and the twists and turns that have endeared this book to me.
Just as I thought that I might have this book figured out, another twist or turn would keep me turning the pages or mulling over what I have already read to figure it all out. The romance is alive and well in this novel. :)
The main characters (Ledger and Corrine) are a delight... the banter and conversations between them are captivating and engaging. Corrine's "talent" of finding things that are lost is a novel paranormal twist to this story as well.
Ledger's home is so well depicted that I could almost see the scenery changing around me as I read. Sharpe's ability to describe, but not too much, kept me wanting more. And I certainly hope there is more on the way from this author!

Let me be clear right off the bat: I did not read this entire book. I think I stopped just before or just after the third chapter.

I think my rating is just because this book isn't my cup of tea. Don't get me wrong, it has a very interesting premise, but that's probably part of the reason that I gave it such a low rating: an interesting premise didn't live up to my expectations.

First of all, the book literally jumped right in. I'm not sure how to articulate this properly, but the beginning was really rushed... I'm not sure how else to put it. The main characters meet right away, but I feel like their meeting was told to us, versus shown to us. It just felt like I was dropped right in the middle of an already established story with the way the author writes. And, I should add, I HATE that. You need to develop your world in the first book.

Something else that irked me was Corinne's "talent". I don't quite understand (no, I shouldn't say that... from an intellectual point of view I understand) it... actually, I thought it was stupid. Sorry. She just needs a mental image of sorts and she can "find" the object/person? No. No. I don't think that works. Personally, I just feel like some sort of "vision" or something would be more believable. That's it - her finding skills just aren't "believable". Then again, I can understand wanting to try something new, but in this case I don't think it would've been a bad thing to stick to the original.

And I also didn't like how they were with each other from the moment they met. And to me, Corinne comes across as one of the people that's going to be snivelling and whining and in constant need of rescuing. No thank you.

Basically, I feel like the beginning of this book (the only part I read) was a half-hearted attempt at writing - like someone was eager to get something out rather than focusing on actually fleshing out the story.

I didn't connect with this book on any level, which is why I stopped reading. Perhaps it was premature; we'll never know. I made the mistake of going by the rating here on Goodreads, but once I actually looked, one of the 5-star ratings was the author, and other than that, there isn't a whole lot of activity on this book. Plus, there was only one review. I should know better by now not to go on the gushing of one review, because that's only one opinion.

Lastly, I cannot stress enough, that I do feel bad at how negative this review sounds, especially since I didn't even have the decency to read the whole book. But I couldn't help it; this is what I feel after I finished reading the amount I did.

EDIT:

No, no, wait. I lied. I seriously don't understand Corinne's talent. Personally, I wouldn't classify her as a psychic. Like, do these objects give off some sort of energy that she picks up on? But then again, if they did, how would she know what energy the object gives off if she's never seen the actual object? I would firmly believe that pictures of objects can't give off energies - only the object itself.

In the book it said something about a silver thread of sorts. I don't understand. How does this "thread" develop? What is this thread? I just don't understand.

This is a must read! This book had me hooked from the first page! It is one of the best books I have read in a while. It has a little bit of everything. It has romance, suspence, some steaminess, and yes a sexy shape shifter. Ledger goes looking for his brother Lynn and is told to go see Corinne who is psychic and can find things that are missing. A romances buds between Ledger and Corinne, and when he leaves to take his brother back to the council and doesn't return. She goes looking for them. But there is a surprise waiting for her that she was not expecting.

I could not put this book down! Spent two days reading it during every spare moment I had. Every time I thought the problem was solved, the author threw in a twist that made me think, "Oooooh! What's gonna happen next?!"

Colorful and vivid scenes blend with intense emotions to keep the reader riveted; unable to let go. Even when not actively reading, the characters prey upon the mind until the reader returns to the world the author has created. I can't wait till the next book in the series!
