Lorelei Cecelia Franklin broke a twenty-year streak of bad luck when she won the L. Cameron Faulkner fiction contest. Apprenticed to the reclusive and famous author, Lorei will spend three weeks with the master of horror himself in the secluded mountains of Virginia. On her way to Faulkner's mansion, Lorei meets a leathery man who snares souls that desire too much, and everything in the mansion screams warnings against him. But with her lust for Faulkner, her appetite for fame, and her wish to protect her ailing mother, Lorei's chances for escape are slim.

What would you be willing to do in order to achieve your dreams? How far would you go to protect someone you love? These questions are at the core of this wonderfully creepy story. We have a house that might or might not be haunted; Faulkner, a reclusive writer whose inspiration comes from dark places; and Lorelei, a young woman who desperately wants to explore that darkness. Their meeting is orchestrated by a mysterious man in a fedora, whose influence goes deeper than Lorelei could ever imagine.

I thought Faulkner and the man in the fedora were well developed and intriguing characters. Lorelei sometimes felt a little shallow to me, and her behavior was inconsistent. She accepted some extreme oddities in the house without much curiosity or exploration, and other times she reacted strongly to something that should have already been obvious to her. Despite this, the story definitely held my interest and kept me hooked until the end.

I always thought that you can tell if a book it’s great from the first pages. It just makes you connect with the characters and story flows easily. This book was outstanding for me and it took me into an amazing world, different from the rest of the book I've read.
Lorelei Cecelia Franklin is a young women who likes the darkness world and will do anything to explore it and she get’s her wish. She is going to spend three weeks in a possibly haunted house, with the writer Faulkner. The two are alike, they like to be surrounded by dark, especially Faulkner who gets his inspiration from dark places. In her way to Faulkner’s house, Lorelei meets a strange leathery man, a man who basically orchestrated their meeting.
If you like this type of books, I highly recommend it!

This is a chilling book which will keep you on the edge of your seat. It really depicts what a person is willing to do, to achieve their goals or save the ones they love. Although there was some parts which seemed to have dragged on a little too long, the story flowed well overall.
