I have always loved McCaffrey's books. There is depth and emotion to all her characters. None of them are perfect as some writers sometimes tends to portray their characters. Either perfectly good or perfectly bad. They are simply human.

In this book the other focus was more on the main character, Lessa, and her growth as a person and how she learns to use her abilities for the better of others and not simply for herself.

I also loved the 2nd character of F'Lar, his confidence and power in his own ability and the ability of Lessa as well as how he simply accepts her for what and who she is. Understanding that her faults are also her greatest assets. His love for her, this is an exampled of an open eyed love.

I read this book in 1980 after someone told me about the series. I love every single dragon rider book written by Anne McCaffrey and/or her son, Todd. The series is intriguing and kept my interest. I recommend reading these books in order the author(s) published them. The story unfolds from past to present to future in a way that will give you chills.

The entire series is about the survival of a world that has a natural, yet very frightening enemy that falls from the sky and destroys everything organic in its path. It comes at intervals that are sometimes so long that it becomes a myth to their society.

McCaffrey's PERN society is fascinating.

As with the first graphic novel, if you aren't already familiar with the Dragonrider series, you may have some trouble keeping up. The coloring was brighter and the art a bit edgier than the previous graphic novel, but there was no transition from one scene to the next to indicate time passing or any other marker that would make the story flow smoother. It's a nice homage to the series, but something that fans would probably be more interested in than just a person who had picked it up for the first time.

I loved this story. I was hooked by the adventure in the remote landscape and found the characters entertaining and strong. I loved that the characters bond with their dragons on such a primal level. Its interesting to think that some people's minds work that way. I don't know if mine would but then I'm not a Pern resident. In all likelihood, I'd wind up a scullery maid! Anyway, the book is well written and a nice read. Even if you're not into science fiction, I highly recommend.

excellent book, so much so that I went out of my way to find copies, just so I can own it and read it whenever I wish.

My review of the first book speaks to my feelings on the series and its authenticity as one of the first and best dragon-centric fantasy series out there.

I thoroughly enjoyed the adventure, characters and scenery in this book. Anne brings the story of the Dragonriders of Pern to life and makes you want to keep turning those pages to find out what happens.

This was the first fantasy book I read. It’s hard to discern from what I felt the first time I read it to what I feel now

A re-read of this classic. First read this series in the 1980's and still as good.

I didn't enjoy it as much as when I was a teenager - but such is the price of old age, I guess.
