Sorry's Not Enough

Rate this book
Charlotte learned at a young an age that even family can hurt you so bad "sorry" will never be enough to heal the wounds. She’s gotten damn good at pushing people away to keep her heart safe. Romance is nowhere on her radar, so she’s caught off guard when a summer writing workshop offers more than just critique.

Recent college grad Steven is pretty sure he’s got life—and love—all figured out. Until he meets Charlotte. She isn't impressed with his charm and good looks, and makes him work hard for every smile, every laugh. There’s something under the surface of her stay-the-hell-away-from-me attitude that only makes him want to get closer, and little by little, she lets him.

Just as Charlotte's about to fall into a love she never knew she wanted, Steven's new job turns their budding romance into a liability, threatening to ruin his career and break her heart in the process.

I'm that friend you have who's usually pretty quiet, but who likes to chime in occasionally with some horribly inappropriate sexual innuendo or humor. Also, I hate writing bios.

Great Scott @ Platypires Reviews

Though this is López's first story, this isn't my first taste of her. She did not disappoint. Charlotte was frustrating and heartbreaking and human, and I can't be mad at her for that. Everything ended exactly the way it should have. While dealing with tough subjects, López was real and raw. Growing up and falling in love is really hard, especially through Charlotte's eyes. I definitely recommend this story to anyone who is a sucker for first time love.

Yet another step in my ongoing experience in the romance genre...

I'm giving this one 3.5 stars

Ok, first off, there is a major curveball tossed at you about 20% into the story. No, I'm not going to squeal.

This is a four year romantic chronicle of a woman with some MAJOR issues and a man that is masochistic enough to endure them. There were times where I wanted to take the guy aside, buy him enough beers to make his eyes cross and ask him 'Are you REALLY sure this is what you want, Dude?'

But I digress.

Charlotte is complicated, fiery, complicated, independant, complicated, needy, complicated, sarcastic and complicated. Surprisingly enough, I never dated her. Had I, I'd probably be writing this review with a crayon between my toes.

But I digress again.

Steven is smart, confident in his looks and wears weird ties. He has no room to be complicated because Charlotte has used up the entire states quota for that description.

What unfolds is a study of give and take, both romantic and sexual. It is anything but paint-by-numbers, with both characters enduring the unstable reaction they draw from one another.

Characterwise, it is well written with cunning insights, beleivable dialog and the steam in places that readers of J. Lea Lopez will recall from her collection of short stories, CONSENTING ADULTS.

The leap from short story to full length novel is not wihout some issues, including some repetition, but overall this was an enjoyable read. I look forward to Ms. Lopez's next book, expecting progress from the promise shown here.

Sorry. I'm so so sorry.
I'm sorry that I ever started this annoying book.
Charlotte is too f**ked up that it's so annoying and if I were Steven I would've given up long ago.
I mean, the characters were so superficial that the author tried compensating for this and for her lack of writing ability by making Charlotte's background so absurd! yup, absurd!
Come on lady!!! Her estranged father running over her mother and then comes after her? and she's living alone? and how can anyone believe her to be a 20-something year old? coz even though she's been through so much in her life, she's so childish!!!
And what's with the jealousy fit that the chemistry teacher has? God woman, accept that you've been rejected!
This book was too unrealistic for me.
I read the first part (actually skipped all the boring stuff and only read the dialogues) but I just couldn't bring myself to finish it.
So I basically gave up after 64% of the book.
Don't know how it ended and don't even care.
I like the student/teacher theme a lot! but this was just..... pointless and boring.
Did I mention boring?
yeah.

SORRY'S NOT ENOUGH - INDEED!

I had to push myself to finish this book. I dislike giving bad reviews but is better giving a honest review to help the author on her future work.
The beginning was all over the place. I was very confused who all this characters were and what they meant to her. I even went back to see if I skipped chapters. If it has started with a little more info about each character it would of been a bit better. Give to much at the beginning of the story is a No but also not giving enough where the readers are confused is also a No. So it’s about finding the balance.
Don’t get me started on the female lead! I couldn’t like her even if the author tried to make her likeable. Readers like reading about female leads that are role models, strong independent woman with side of dorky. We don’t like when guys step all over the lead girl but we don’t like lead girls who step all over the Mc either. Again is about balance.

This story will have you laughing, crying, and wanting to throw your kindle or book across the room. At first I was a little disturbed about the whole student/teacher thing but I quickly got over it. This is an extremely emotional story.
Charlotte is a young woman who's mother was killed by a drunk driver, her father. Steven meets her over the summer at a writing workshop. He is hopelessly infatuated with her but she keeps pushing him away. When she goes away to college in Arizona they try to keep a long distance relationship but they break it off. Several years later she comes back for her grandmother's funeral and best friends wedding, where Steven still wants her but she is still not emotionally stable and keeps pushing him away with one hand and pulling him closer with the other.
I myself thought he should have just got on with his life and be happy. I believe you will be pleasantly surprised by this story.

I downloaded this after reading Consenting Adults by the same author, it started off really well but then I felt it dragged on a bit. Still a good read and the characters were actually well developed.
