A thin strand of ivy stretched on its own and reached down for his hand, entwining itself around his finger. Nathaniel twisted it in his fingers thoughtfully. “What am I going to do?” he whispered at the moon. He looked at Lucy’s sleeping face again and then at the moon. “Save her,” he almost begged, “let it kill me but save her, if you can.” He gazed back at her, a pained smile twisted on his mouth. He leaned his head back against the pillow and let go of the ivy, watching it wind its way back up to the rafters. He didn’t sleep. This was not going to end well.
In the second book of The Feather Trilogy, Lucy and Nathaniel have started their sophomore year at Mulbridge University. Everything seems perfect but a series of strange accidents leave them both wondering if something sinister is lurking. Is it just fate or is something evil after Lucy’s soul? Does Roman, recently returned from the depths of Hell, have anything to do with it? Nathaniel and Lucy struggle to find answers until all is terrifyingly revealed on the Winter Solstice in an ending that will leave you breathless.
Gates is an exhilarating, exciting read that will keep you guessing until the very last page.

I didn't think it was possible for Feather to be topped, but this one is better! I read this book in one day because I couldn't put it down. Gates introduced a new problem for Lucy and Nathaniel, yet it provided a huge twist at the very end of the book. The twist literally made me scream when I read "the end" because I have GOT to know what happens next! I'm absolutely hooked on this series and cannot wait for book three so that I can know what happens next after the ending of Gates.
Laurie Lyons has out done herself with this second installment of the Feather series. I read Feather In January of this year & could not wait for the second book, Gates.
The book picks up where the last one ended, with Lucy & Nathaniel very much happy & in love & thankful that there together, but with that nagging feeling that everything is too good to be true.
This book is even better than the first (something I never though I would say, as the first was amazing too). But it kept me gripped from the word go, Laurie has brought the Characters even more to life & loveable. The bonds between Lucy, Nathaniel, Anastasia & believe or not Roman are beautifully written and I have to say I now love Roman as a character even more than before & for totally unexpected reasons.
You get taken through good times, bad times, horror & beauty. There is love & friendship, magic, faith, heroics & danger & moments where I was laughing out loud to myself. The twists & turns in this book are draw dropping to the point where when I reached the end of the book I shouted out loud & made my partner jump, as I am distraught that I now have to wait to read the 3rd book!
This is an easy review to write as the book is an absolute MUST READ! But very hard as there is very little I can put without giving anything away. If you loved the first book then you wont be disappointed with second.
Thank you Laurie for your amazing writing skills & for the chance to review your book.
I received this book in exchange for an honest review from the Author and the “Lovers of Paranormal” Group on Goodreads.com
Gates is an excellent sequal to Feather. Laurie Lyons descriptions of everything are amazing. There is so much going on in this story that it is hard to say what I like the most. I couldn't put the book down once I started reading it. Now that Nathaniel is mortal Lucy thinks that everything will be wonderful for them. However, there is still darkness following her. My feelings for Roman really changed with this book. His attitude and actions made me realize that he really was only doing his job as a demon and that demons always aren't what we think they are. The story takes a twist at the end that I wasn't expecting. This is a great book!
I'll just come right out and say it... BEST OUT OF THE SERIES (so far). I mean, from the first chapter I was already gushing and happy to be back in this world and back with my favorite characters. Nathaniel continued to amaze me with his kindness and wonderful soul. Gavin (new addition) is so amazing right from the start! His uncanny wit and charm swept me off my feet! He is also great comic relief! Roman grew on me tremendously! He is so much more than just a Demon but he is conflicted and feeling emotions he had long ago left behind. It is refreshing to see him grow and change. His love for Stasia is so empowering for him that I found myself rooting for them even when Lucy had mixed feelings about the whole thing. I was not as put off by all the fluff in this book mainly because there was such a great balance of romance and action that by the time the romance scenes rolled around, I was craving them (demanding, more like)! I won't go into too much detail regarding plot and spoilers, but it should be noted that by the last couple of pages, I was gripping my computer screen fiercely because of that plot twist!!! And Roman's reaction to the whole ordeal ... my god, my heart just burst! So beautifully written and explained - hats off to Laurie! Like Feather, the ending left me wanting MORE. I was left on the precipice of tears and anger over what happened. My heart is demanding to know what happens next! Laurie, please release me of the pain! (A hug or pat on the back usually helps me..just fyi) Overall, this book is a MUST READ. Action, lure, romance, friendships (which was my favorite part of this entire book), and hot Angels & Demons - what's not to like?! Highly recommended!
When I mentioned that it is highly likely Roman would be involved that is understatement.
There are a lot of secrets that have been revealed in "Gates" but that wouldn't be the last of it. In this second installment of the Feather Trilogy, Roman becomes an ally in order to save Lucy from the Fates that wants her dead. But is it really her they want dead?
Roman has been redeemed in my eyes especially when he saved Lucy for Anastasia. But the accidents Lucy has been experiencing lately seemed not to stop especially when a "Wrath" which is supposedly a myth comes after (since a Wrath is usually sent by the Fates). In their travel to hell, Roman's secret has finally been revealed as to what crime he did which made him a demon. At the same time visiting Roman's friend Random who apparently knows things reveal the answers they are looking for. But in order for them to achieve what they need to do, a price must be paid but at what cost.
Lucy and Nathaniel's relationship is stronger than ever. The new character Gavin, well, I'm not much a fan of him. I have feeling about him which is not so good.
I was surprised about what crimes Roman did but when I learned about it, it was something I did not expect. I won't spoil what it is but like I said something I did not expect.
The ending was a major cliffhanger and one I did not see coming.

I REALLY enjoyed this book! We pick up very close to where Feather left off. Nathaniel and Lucy are together and both are studying at University. But, guess who else is back? ROMAN! Back from his 'sojourn' in hell, Roman is still dating Lucy's best friend. Can Lucy learn to work with the demon? Can she afford not to?
Without giving too much away, during the book, we get a trip down to hell that is particularly creepy and intriguing. While there, the trio [Nathaniel, Lucy and Roman] meet up with another demon, Random. Everything about their meeting is fantastically creepy and bizarre. The entire trip to hell is really well done - the descriptions and the feelings, the why/how people were there, how hell 'worked' and how there's just had no connection to anyone or anything while down there.
And! we end on a cliffhanger! I'm looking forward to the next book!
This is the second book in the Feather trilogy and it does not disappoint! The characters are getting more complex and the story is only getting better. Nathaniel and Lucy are together and happy. Both are in college and dealing with all that that comes with. Throughout the story they stick together and handle everything that is thrown at them (with the help of friends new and old.) And there is a lot! Everything from family drama to evil that threatens to overwhelm them. But be careful... I found myself praying for the third book to be out as soon as possible when I got to the unexpected twist at the end.
Again I want to thank the author for gifting this book for an honest review... I hope I did it justice!
This was a good read even though I did't read Feathers which is the first book. With that being said I was able to understand the characters and I liked them very much. We have a story of a human Lucy who has found her soulmate in Nathaniel who is an Angel or was. I liked Nathaniel I think he keeps Lucy on the right track when she doesn't see the good in people.Lucy has a friend named Anastasia who dates a Demon named Roman. I liked the story alot , I loved Roman even with him being a Demon I would think he was a angel. I can't wait for Book 3 and I will go back and read book 1 to see how Lucy and Nanthaniel came to be.

Wow this book was good. I enjoyed every page of it. Talk about a story full of action, humor, suspense and romance, this one sure delivers. I love how this book was non stop with the suspense. It left off from the first book, Feathers, but could be read as a stand alone. Other than the ending, which is a cliffhanger, this book is a great read. The characters are great. I liked how the romance between Roman and Anastasia grew. I can't wait to read Book 3. A must add to your tbr list. Definitely a recommended book.
I feel like so much has happened in one book, it's a little overwhelming. It's as if i have been reading a whole series literally. So much happens from the beginning of the book to the end, and when i finally got to the ending... At first i was like how could you do this to us, how?! I have never read a book with such a huge cliffhanger in my life, it's crazy.
My reaction, after a minute or so to process the ending; [image error]
And then...
Then finally...
THINGS I LIKED ABOUT THE BOOK
I like the different sides of each of the character that we saw in the book, especially Roman. How the characters in the book develop, why they act the way they did/do, basically giving more incite to the characters. I really hope we see more of that in the next book/books to come because it was one of the best parts of the book.
I thought it was cool that Laurie added a scene in the book where Nate, Stasia and Lucy cleaned her fathers den. I felt a sense of connection with Lucy and could relate with her even though I have not gone through a similar experience.
I really liked how Laurie managed to convey the emotions in the character. It felt very real and had good description of what someone in a similar situation would do or how they react.
I loved Nate. He was beyond sweat and kind and knew the right things to say to make Lucy feel better. But I also found it kind of annoying. There relationship didn't feel real. To me, for a real relationship to work, people have to fight someone times, otherwise it gets a little boring. And I don't mean those kind of fights that they had where minutes later they want to apologize to each other. In real life, this relationship wouldn't last longer than a couple of months. It's something that kept bothering me throughout the book.
One thing I can't complain about is Stasia and Lucy's relationship. Laurie portrays their relationship so life like. Stasia is the person that keeps Lucy grounded, insulting and yelling at her when she needs it.
I also really like Roman. I have a whole new appreciation for him. <["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>
In my review of Feather I advised that I’m not a huge fan of spoilers and I stay true to my word with my review of Gates. HOWEVER, I will be divulging what Nathaniel and Roman are so if you haven’t read Feather, and don’t want to be spoiled, I suggest you turn back….NOW. Ye be warned…..
Again, Laurie hit it out of the ball park with Gates. I loved it and wasn’t at all disappointed with the second installment of The Feather Trilogy.
Gates flows easily from where Feather left off and the re-cap of the first installments events were well done and lead you right into the action of the second. All the elements that I enjoyed so much from Feather are there:
I could relate to the characters feelings and emotions. There was elements of suspense and mystery, and a plot twist at the end that I in NO WAY saw coming. The same gang is there, with the same hilarious and witty banter that was in the first book. I have to say that I believe this book make me laugh out loud even more, which was part of why I enjoyed it so.
We have the introduction of a new character Gavin and we are brought into Anastasia’s and Roman’s worlds more deeply. We find out more about Stasia’s and Roman’s relationship and how Roman came to be a Demon.
There is great development in the relationship between the Angel (Nathaniel) and the Demon (Roman), which I thought was great. How often do Angels and Demons really begin to relate to and maybe even trust one another? ……Or do they? You will have to read it, to find that out.
Now, to the good stuff……
I love Nathaniel. Like, LOVE HIM, but Roman? Oh My Gaaaaawd. (Out of respect to Nathaniel, I used Gaaaawd instead of Gooood)
Roman, Roman, Roman….I want to have Roman’s babies. I don’t caaaaare that the man is a Demon, he’s HOTT, with two T’s. He, hands down, had some of my favorite lines in the book. I badly want to share one with you but it is kind of a spoiler so I wont. But lets say the visual in my head left me in hysterics for about 10 minutes and his actions for the next couple pages didn’t aid my giggling issue. (Demons can be such babies!) I will however share my second favorite line:
“I have a halo too Lucy,” Roman said grinning, “It’s just held up with a pitchfork.”
Adorbs, right? #RAWR
I really hope that Laurie does a character interview with Lucy, Nathaniel, Anastasia and Roman. I would love to hear their thoughts on the events so far and what is in store for them in the third installment. (If you are reading this Ms. Lyons, HINT HINT)
If you haven’t guessed by now, I highly recommend Gates and if you haven’t read Feather, get off your butt and go read that too.
So happy to continue on with this series with the journey this author is taking me on with Nathaniel and Lucy. To find your soul mate is one thing but to have that one give up heaven for you oh my and such is the love they have. But not everything is peaches and cream for these two. Both in school also with their friends also still joining them. Also Roman returns that demon you love to hate but in this one she shows you a side of this demon that well quite frankly you find yourself not so much hating anymore. A new friend is introduced in this one Gavin who though he would like more must remain friends only. Anastasia is still herself quirky that she is but still carries that torch for Roman. Strange events start happening that seem to happen around Lucy and Anastasia that concern Nathaniel and also Roman. Investigating also seems to be the mode that will take place. Oh by the way the places that they have to go to seek those answers is quite the journey also. This author does so will with descriptions that you can actually almost be right there. So the answers they seek get sometimes more clues than they can keep up with since events escalate. It really does not help with a myth coming after you also. But low and behold surprise surprise the answers they finally realize will have some running to save a life before it is too late. Received a arc for a honest review. LOP(Lovers of Paranormal)
Lucy's life is going great and things couldn't get better. She has a life to live with a now visible Nathaniel. Heaven and Hell can't possibly take him away from her now.
Roman is pretty much the only thorn on her side. Lucy, with her amazing memory, remembers every encounter they've ever had... Most of them not being very pleasant. Alas, Lucy's best friend is dating him and falling for him. Can they let bygones be bygones and at least act civil towards one another? Probably not.
Nathaniel's already met Lucy's friends when he was invisible in Feather and he quickly charms his way into her group of friends. They don't suspect a thing.. Except for Anastasia, Lucy's best friend. She's worried that Lucy is getting in over her head and falling for a guy that she thinks she's just met.
One after another, accidents are appearing near Lucy... Deadly accidents. Nothing like this has ever happened to Lucy and Nathaniel is getting extremely worried. Nathaniel proves, once again, that he'll do anything to save her life. But what if she's not the one in danger this time?
The Winter Solstice is coming up and no one is safe. Can Nathaniel and Roman, an Angel and a Demon, mortal enemies, save everyone before it's too late?
The ending of Gates will leave you breathless for more because Laurie Lyons just loves giving her readers a cliffhanger...
This is one of the most intriguing, suspenseful, heartbreaking, joyous, keep me on the edge of my seat books I have read in a long time! I absolutely LOVE this series and I cannot wait for the third book to come out! I really need to know how this all ends!!! :) I have recently found myself having a very difficult time reading books that center around Angels & Demons, mainly because so many of them follow so closely along the same plot lines .... However, the Feather trilogy is a series that is so much different from many I've read! I am absolutely loving it!!! Nathaniel, Lucy, Anastasia & Roman are all characters that I can relate to! I cannot wait for the third book in this series!!!!!
There are a few spelling/grammatical errors throughout the book, but they are so few and far between it does not make too much of a difference - they were very easy to read through.
DISCLAIMER: This book was gifted to me by the author (through the Goodreads) website in exchange for an honest review. The opinions expressed here are my own, and no money or other compensation was provided for this review.
I received this book in exchange for an honest review from LoP. To be honest the book kind of disappointed by this book. Don't get me wrong I love the plotline but the way it is presented doesn't make me happy. First and foremost, I hate the random change in point of view. I've read many books where the story is told from several points of view but its usually made clear. There were sometimes where the story was told from an outsider's point of view. It was just too confusing. I also hated the knight in shining armor shtick that Nathaniel has. It might just be me but I feel like she built up Lucy as this strong independent woman only to have her be this helpless girl whenever Nathaniel is around. I hope the third book is better.
I was given this ebook in exchange for an honest review from Lovers of Paranormal and the Author Laurie Lyons.
This book follows along with book one almost to a T. There are twists and turns and just enough good stuff to keep you good and interested. The story of this book is very touching, there's soul mates, angels and demons, heaven and hell and all of that fantastic stuff... you'll even find yourself liking the demon too. The only thing that I wasn't to fond of was the full out religion content of this novel, but that's only because I'm not personally religious myself. It doesn't take away from the story at all, I just felt it was a bit much.
Thank you very much for allowing me to read this!!
